This is a 54-person raid task with a six hour time limit.

Of the original thirteen scrykin, only six are still alive. They have decayed to the state of true monstrosity and insanity. They must be brought down before they endanger the Plane of Magic itself.

Daosheen the Firstborn has not left the tower in over one hundred years. Be cautious when entering his chamber, as no one knows what he may have created there. Rumors abound that he has assembled several tons of magical crystal mined from the quarries of Arcstone.

  • 1. Enter Skylance Tower - Arcstone

    You say, 'Hail, Arkahn'

Arkahn says 'Greetings, ______. I am Arkahn the Gatekeeper of Skylance. Ao has instructed me to wait here for your arrival. I cannot help you overtly, but I will serve as your guide while you remain in this tower. Tell me, where are you headed? The [oubliette]? The [library]? The [laboratory]? Or perhaps [Daosheen's study]? I can direct you to all these chambers.'

    You say, 'Daosheen's study.'

Arkahn says 'Daosheen has just unlocked his study for the first time in many years. He must be expecting you. Follow my familiar to the top of the ramp. Beyond the portal, you will meet Daosheen the Firstborn of all scrykin.'

Arkahn's Familiar is Firefeather, and he moves up to the very top of the ramp and stays there.

  • 2. Engage Daosheen the Firstborn - Skylance

  • 3. Kill Daosheen the Firstborn - Skylance

For this raid, it is recommended four people (preferably with feign death) get designated as 'crystal clickers' (more on this in a moment).

Daosheen hits for ~5000; AE rampages (mitigated to ~2200).

He is slightly slowable; average resists; sees invisibility; does not see Shroud of Stealth.

He may look it, but is not permanently rooted. He has no tether and will even follow you through the portal to the lobby of Skylance.

Spawns adds called "a crystal spirit" (mezzable): Four adds at 90% (one at each crystal); eight adds at 80, 70, 60, and 50% (two at each crystal); and 12 adds at 40, 30, 20, and 10% (three at each crystal).

He casts four spells on random people throughout the encounter. They are cured by clicking on a crystal: Plague of Mana (green); Presence of the Firstborn (red); Curse of the Firstborn (yellow) ; Smothering Dismay (blue).

Beginning at 75%, he begins AEing Runes of Alliance and Aura of Stone. These spells land on about 25 people at a time. This is where the 'crystal clickers' come in. A two-click combination cures these spells: yellow-green cures Runes of Alliance, while red-blue cures Aura of Stone.

At about 10% and again at about 5%, he AEs the spell Doom of the Firstborn. The 'crystal clickers' need to do a four-click combination to cure this: red, yellow, blue, green. You have approximately 12 seconds to do this.

Note that if Daosheen is killed before the final wave of adds despawn, the adds will remain up and need to be killed. Note also that if a charmed player gets the killshot on Daosheen with a DoT, the task will not update and the corpse will disappear.

Upon his death, Daosheen drops loot, and all task members are rewarded with a Black Orb of Daosheen the First.

Those crystals will need to be studied further. Perhaps there is a greater use for them. However there is a more important issue at hand. With your defeat of Daosheen, Druzzil has agreed to speak with you. Seek her out and see what may come of the meeting.

Ranger lvl 110 soloed. I just burned him down, dotted at 12%, then cast DA (Feral Guardian Channeler). That wore off at 6% annoyingly though, so I got the death touch dot. I burned the final 6% and quickly looted everything expecting to die..... but didn't. The death touch just did 100k damage. Now a super easy fight. For those that take damage from all the adds, I used a Wurmslayer.

Did this recently with 3 toons boxing.

    2x ranger lvl 110
    1x wizard lvl 110

After trying several times with strategies mentioned here and failing due to the combination of being charmed and silenced I tried something different.
Pulled Daosheen to the red crystal to constantly remove the silence. It was messy but managed to DPS him down.
Seemed my toons died due to the DT after Daosheen died.

    3 boxed - strat

I recently did this event with 3 characters.
Merc's couldn't be present in mission or count to request it ... I had a guildie let me invite his bots. 6 to request is accurate.

    my group
105 enc (TBM raid some EoK raid gear 180khp)
105 ranger (old seb gear 135khp)
105 cleric (old seb gear 130khp)

Based on what I had read here it seemed I just needed to pet tank outside the room to avoid the ae's so I parked animation at bottom of zone in room, in such a place that the cleric could hit it with heals. I pulled named out of the room and put all 3 toons into the room named pops with the crystals. I was still affected on all 3 characters with ae ... I started randomly clicking crystals I hadn't looked up or noted down which order I needed to click ... I cured some ae's the most annoying was the silence.
Sadly the animation wasn't doing enough dps so I popped ranger out of room to hit with bow. mob got to 60 pretty quickly. but adds in room were quite a few ... I was stupid and gated the cleric to plan a reset, I think should have just zoned her out.

Then on last char's I was getting charmed ... Enchanter couldn't cast I ran back to room because was silenced named at this time was 30 % ish. ... but summoned back ranger was charmed animation had died. so I just hit it with my staff ... once ranger's charm dropped I hit as many burns on ranger ... sadly enchanter died about 15% maybe to a DT ... the ranger was charmed again I thought it was all over, but named dragged ranger back to her original room. once charm dropped ranger killed the remaining 11% very quickly. I think ranger missed being DT'ed because she was charmed.

Maybe I was lucky, I remember raiding this along time ago and thought would be more difficult.

    Strat

The strat mentionned below works great. I did this with 3 toons, 105 rogue, 105 bst and 105 sham. I only needed this for the hero's journey.

I went in with the rogue and pulled him out thru the portal, it takes a bit for Daosheen to find his way out and kinda warps on you. Once he was out, i sent the bst's pet in then parked the bst and the rog by the red and blue crystal to just click on those whenever it is necessary and used the sham to heal the pet and dps a bit to make this faster.
At 75% i sent the rog thru the portal and just burned him to death before he could charm/mez again, everyone died to the DT shortly after his death but the orb is added automatically to your inventory so this doesn't really matter.

The charm/mez portion is still bugged, it seems. I can confirm that these two spells do not seem to hit you if you aren't in the same room as Daosheen.

Aura of Stone never hit me once (it just dropped itself immediately after appearing in the buff window, no clicking crystals was necessary).

Runes of Alliance was not being dropped properly when clicking the crystals. It worked a few times as long as I still had someone agroing Daosheen, but if I was charmed when he reset, I couldn't get out of it after the debuff gem wore off. I even did /taskq while charmed and Daosheen still was kind enough to let me hang around his house until I died, never kicking me from the instance.

I finally died due to the DoTs on me, but that caused me to get kicked to the character select screen.

    Strat for boxing/using min people

So I've seen a few people ask about how to do this raid at later levels with minimal forces due to the mass AE charm/mez... well, here is a relatively simple strat to do so. I'll preface this by saying it's an extremely cheap method but at this point in the game the only reason people would likely do this raid is to get fetters for DK or for the Hero's Journey.

I boxed this with 4 (Dru, Mag, Ench, Shm) but you could do it with 3, perhaps 2 if you really wanted.

If you go by this strat you'll need a pet class (Mage/Necro), someone who can take hits or CC (I used an Enchanter), and a healer. The first task is to engage Daosheen and pull him out of his room through the portal (as mentioned previously, he's not tethered). Once he is out of the room, send the pet to tank Daosheen. Until 75% you can DPS him normally if you want. Once he hit's 75% though you're going to want to be in the room the majority of the time. He will start AEing his Charm and Mez at 75% - however, if he is out of the room those two AEs will not hit anyone inside the room. Daosheen will AE either Mez or Charm every 75 seconds so you can time it easily since it's not that often. In this window is when you send your healer through the portal to heal the pet. For me, I also used this opportunity to cast large DSs (mage and druid were nice for this) to drop Daosheen's HP more quickly. I suppose you could actually DPS him in this window but since I was boxing alone I didn't wanna chance anything. Just repeat this process over and over. Now, even if Daosheen is out of the room you'll still get hit by the other debuffs (Silence, DOT, Snare, or Stat reduction); just click the appropriate crystal to cure these. Snare (blue crystal) and Silence (red crystal) are the only two you really have to worry about. Don't forget you also have the adds every 10% as well. These are easy to deal with now given how much HP people have. The adds don't have to be killed- they despawn after a minute or two so you just need someone to take the hits or mez them.

This obviously isn't an extremely fast method but (at least for me) it's the only way to do this due to the mass Charm/Mez.

Here are the messages for the AEs:

"Allegiances shift as Daosheen speaks a cryptic phrase." - Charm
"Daosheen calls upon the elemental forces to contain his enemies." - Mez/Stun

ps. Another post mentioned about how the raid is bugged- I can kindof vouch for this. I found that if someone is mezzed (inside or outside the room) they can be cured by clicking red/blue. However, one time I had a character be completely frozen even after the debuff icon dropped. I just manually crashed that instance of EQ and rebooted during the event and kept going but it's just one more reason why you need to avoid that AE. For the charm, I couldn't drop it at all even when clicking the correct crystals (in/out of the room didn't make a difference- it never worked).

Raid is bugged at this posting. ""Runes of Alliance and Aura of Stone"" do not show icons,
and cannot be removed by the crystals. Once Mezzed or Charmed you are stuck for the
duration of the invisible timer on the invisible Dot icon.

Tried the raid twice with two full groups, first was (100) Raid group along with a PUgroup.
It was a wipe several times because charm and mez didn't remove at all.

    I will update when fixed.

Those are reversed. Smothering Dismay is cured by Blue, Curse of the Firstborn is cured by yellow.

The "AEs" start at 75%. The mez (Aura of Stone) is cured by clicking Red then Blue. The charm (Runes of the Alliance) is cured by clicking yellow and green. These must be clicked back to back, if, for instance, red is clicked, then someone clicks green to cure their 3k/tick dot, clicking blue will NOT finish the sequence and it must be started over.

At about 10% and again at about 5%, he AEs the spell Doom of the Firstborn. The 'crystal clickers' need to do a four-click combination to cure this (information needed about what cures what).

The sequence to cure Doom of the Firstborn is red - yellow - blue - green. You have about 12 seconds to do this.

NOTE: If a charmed player gets the killshot on Daosheen with a DOT spell, then the task will not update and the corpse will poof.

NOTE: If Daosheen dies before the last wave of adds depops, the wave will not depop.

Looking at the loot I am thinking this raid must be no pushover, where would you rate this in the scale of say anguish? Pre or post? How hard does Daosheen hit, and how about the adds?

I would say its tougher than Anguish, even OMM, who is now quite easy although they are 2 different encounters. The thing about Daosheen is its a long fight, and you have to have solid clickers. The adds despawn which is nice and battle rezzing is easy which makes this a somewhat forgiving encounter. Except for the DT at 10% which could wipe you.
    How tough?
    # Jun 26 2007 at 7:33 AM Rating: Decent
What, you don't need solid clickers for OMM? i would say you do since he powers up if you miss one...
    How tough?
    # Aug 10 2006 at 2:26 AM Rating: Decent
It's a Vishimtar kind of a raid, only a bit more complicated, and therefore I would say way harder than COA bosses (perhaps excepting OMM). It is also immensely fun :)
