I started EQ back in the early noughties and by the time I reached level 50s, Planes of Power was all the craze and guilds were not interested in raiding the original Planes, especially Sky. So the prospect of the Epic 1 was daunting enough but all forums and websites generally quoted the Air Staff as "unknown", since all Crowns were grabbed for the Epic.
Eventually, after shifting guilds a few times and waiting months, I got to raid Sky once at level 63. A two-night affair till daybreak each time (I was a European with an American Guild). I got my Crown and shortly after, the Epic.
Now, years later, I've dusted off my robe and am now a capped Silver at level 100. Sky Plane is now trivial to solo (you need 60k+ HP to withstand the deathtouches), so I thought I'd collect the Staff I never got back in the day.
Wow, it must have taken a lot of dedication to get the Sky gear and this staff is no exception. The Crown is the easy part, you'll normally get at least one every time you clear the sphinxes and drakes, but I had to kill the Sister and the Eye over 20 times each, probably a lot more.
So now I have the Air Staff. Just need to hope in a time capsules and visit my old self and say "No Sweat"!

The large opal was kind of ellusive. Took several trips to that island..... The djinn stave was also kind of annoying, it took killing Sister of the spire about 40x. Granted, if you do it right, you can get 20 or 30 per sirran spawn. Crowns are kind of variable. One set of drakes / sphinx / undines, I got 2. Another set of just drakes, I got 5. Yes another set of just drakes, I got 6. Another set of all of them, I got 4? /shrug. Getting rid of all those pesky flyin critters n stray extra DT critters was important prior to spawning the sister of the spire. Clear the deck, rummage their corpses, go back to bees, kill the bees, loot the bees, have one toon stay w/ sirran, n hotkey the trigger for sister, n kill the sister, heal the 65K, rinse repeat ad nausiam. If you're toally lucky, you'll get the nectar, the stave, a crown or 4, AND the large opal in one run. Good luck!

This item goes for 100k on Rodcet. This is the only item I do not have for my epic... I hear that drops VERY rarely, but I can't even gather enough people (My guild being so small) to raid PoA... If getting a group is the easy part, I'm in for hell.

probably used before epic quests were around, i just camped on island 4 tonight and hope to get one tomorrow. oh and btw the PoA quest items for mages are total junk. Test of shielding = 5 int 50 mana neck slot item? i can get better jewelcraft items.
Dont do this quest. get youre epic , the pet is 2 times better than any other you can get and if you have an extra crown after you done with the epic, ill buy it for the going price of 50k

imo just skip this dumb quest and save the crown for your mage epic . why would you need a staff of air when u have your epic , unless your guild raids air that often or crowns are dropping like candy its worth a try :)
