This flags you to start the quest for the epic 1.5 if you don't have the Nature Walkers Scimitar (epic 1.0).
Find Derick Goodroot in in the merchant area of the Jaggedpine Forest, at +1325, +1945. You say, 'Hail, Derick Goodroot' Derick Goodroot says 'No I don't have anything for sale and no I don't want any of your filthy 'money', can't you see I have important [work] to do? Why don't you go talk to that banker and give it to him. There has been nothing but trouble since you all arrived. I'm sick and tired of you people traipsing through here like you own the place. Before you know it, this place will be a smelly den of inequity like Qeynos. I'd like to take that Banker Mardalson and all the rest and feed them to the [river]!' You say, 'Work?' Derick Goodroot says 'I prepare seeds for planting to replace the ruin that those accursed Wayfarers have made of the forest. What would you know about it? I don't suppose you have any viable seeds in your pocket? I didn't think so. Just once I'd like to find some new seeds.' Derick looks lost in thought for a moment before barking, 'Go off to your adventures and leave me be. If you have to speak to me again then bring me a good seed or I'll not tolerate you in my home.' You say, 'What about the river?' Derick Goodroot says 'Yeah, go have yourself a nice walk and visit the river. Say hello to the [Potameids] while you're there. They'll be as happy as I am to see you.' You say, 'What about the Potameids?' Derick Goodroot says 'Yes, Potameids. Water Nymphs. They guard the river. Legend has it that long ago the Unkempt asked their queen to prevent intruders from crossing the river and entering the Unkempt Woods. The Queen agreed and now to this day everyone that gets close to the river is seldom heard from again. Why don't you go take a look already and leave me alone!' Forage a Redwood Seed (identifies as "A redwood seed") in the Plane of Growth. Give the seed to Derick. Derick Goodroot says 'This is a wonderful specimen, unblemished and healthy. You know, if I had a seed like this I might just try one of those Unkempt [seed rituals], that is if they hadn't been lost along with the Unkempt so many years ago. It's unlikely that any record of them exists these days. Why, there was one ritual that they say could evolve a redwood seed into something new and powerful.' You say, 'Seed rituals?' Derick Goodroot says 'If you can find the text for the ritual, I'll help you with it. Bring it to me and I think we can make it work. It's unlikely that any such text exists, though, so don't get your hopes up.' Kill "a Chetari Hoarder" and "a Chetari Packrat" in Dragon Necropolis until: You have slain a Chetari Hoarder! --You have looted a Unkempt Seed Rituals.-- It identifies as "New cover on old and ureadable pages made of leather." Bring it back to Derick. Derick Goodroot says 'Well you actually found it. It has a new cover, but most of the original pages seem to be here. I can't read all of this very well. Nobody reads this language anymore, but I think I understand the basics. You will need some high quality loam and some magic earth. Marshes are a good place to find loam. Magical soil might be a problem, but certainly you can find some that will work. These two items are used to create the cleansing loam. It's the third item that I don't like. I know the Unkempt were different than we are, but I find this hard to believe. The ritual seems to say that you must take the seed and insert it into the heart of a noble creature to give it strength, then rest that in the loam and earth. I don't like the idea of killing anything noble for such a ritual. I'm not sure what I think of this whole thing now. I'll leave that up to you. Here is a pot that you can use for the ritual. If you still want to do this and you find a heart that might work, bring it to me and I'll see if I can help.' You receive an Aerated Pot (identifies as "A thin pot made from a porous clay"), a 4-slot container. Forage Earthy Loam (identifies as "Rich with nutrients") in Innothule Swamp. Kill a controlled earth churner in Barindu (/loc? fight info?) and loot Empowered Earth (identifies as "Lump of moist, rich soil"). (How do you know to do this?) Speak with Bittrik the Unkempt in the Plane of Storms, found at -1065, -2470, in the last cavern in the tunnel. You say, 'Hail, Bittrik the Unkempt' Bittrik the Unkempt says 'Oh me oh my! A visitor! Pardon me for not cleaning up, but I wasn't expecting company so early! Bittrik's the name, stories are my game. Looking to unmask the secret of the Kingdom of Lok? I might indeed have that story tucked away somewhere. Perhaps you'd fancy a smaller story, one revolving around an ill-tempered giant? That one happens to be one of my favorites! Of course, there are the stories of raging Storms to be found throughout this land, which I know plenty about as well. So, what it'll be, friend?' You say, 'Ill-tempered giant.' Bittrik the Unkempt says 'Ah, you're interested in one of the most peculiar stories I know, eh? Most would say that the story is a fluke, derived from a crazed mind. We'll see what you think. Of course I'm sure your'e aware of the fact that this place has been in existence long before any of our time. But, in the beginning, there were only a small population of beasties and creatures that lived in the plains, desert and forest. One day though, after a particularly nasty storm, a large mountain giant washed ashore. He was battered and beaten, weathered by the storm, and nearly dead.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'I'm sure you can believe that this massive creature felt slightly out of place, being so far from his mountainous homelands, however he took it upon himself to find suitable living areas in the region he was now in. His journey started in the Plains of Lost Souls, Srerendi; the mild trees and vegetation, while appealing, weren't enough to satiate his hunger for a land close to that of his home. The trees were sparsely packed, the wildlife was mundane, and he felt that the rivers that flowed through the plains were far too gloomy. Not only that, but he couldn't stand to be so close to the shipwreck that landed him here in the first place.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'Dissatisfied with the look and feel of the plains, the giant looked westward for greener pastures. As he walked through the hills making his way west, he thought back to days gone past, of his comrades in arms and his cohorts in exploration. He was known to be a strong and proud warrior, but he was not known to be the most friendly of giants, certainly not to outsiders and certainly not when he was outnumbered. The younger giants in the tribe thought of him as very ornery and somewhat short-tempered, yet very noble and well versed in the ways of the world. These things harked back to more pleasant times long before he arrived in this wretched place of vast storms.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'As he reminisced about days of yore, the ground under his feet changed from a pale green to that of blistering white sands. Rocks encased this deserted area, long forgotten except for the sparse collection of desert-going creatures. He was amazed at the sudden climate change he found; that rolling plains could twist and contort so quickly into a desert region puzzled him. One thing he was sure of, he wasn't going to live in a dry, overheated place like this. He decided he would go north to see if there was another climate change nearby, perhaps one that was more closely linked to his home climate in the mountains.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'He saw the scorched, burning sand below his feet and pondered what could do such a thing to his land. Had there been such severe storms that it caused all the vegetation and trees in this area to be swept away into nothing? Or was this a foreshadowing of events that would eventually engulf him and these lands in a shroud of death and demise? He shuddered at the questions rolling around in his mind; why was he so afraid of these questions anyway? He was a mighty warrior with decades of training and experience. He figured he was just being paranoid from being so far away from home and shrugged it off as just that -- paranoia.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'The longer he walked, the more he thought that this may be it,; he thought that there was endless desert from here on out. After some time, he came upon a small oasis, filled with glistening water. He gulped down the water as though he had not had any for years. When he was thoroughly quenched, he stopped to think about the logic of such cool, clear water in the middle of a desert before finally realizing that there must be cooler lands nearby. He moved on through the heat, hoping that his next step would bring him to the edge of the next climate.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'He ran a few more steps when out of nowhere, he found himself in the middle of a densely packed, lush and fertile forest. He could hardly believe his eyes as he looked around at the tall trees and their very green leaves. He strolled through the forest glowing at the thought of having found a new home for himself, even though he was so far from the reaches of civilization. It was high time he started to build a place to live.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'He spent many weeks laboring away, cutting down nearby trees and turning them into lumber for a cabin. The end result was a modest cabin that he could live in without disturbing the peace and tranquility of the surrounding forest area. He was to live there for a long time, living among the forest and in peace... alone. That is until the Storms came, but that is another story altogether.' [continue] Bittrik the Unkempt says 'That's all there is to the story of the ornery giant who lived in the forest. I happen to think that it's a wonderful story, but to each their own I guess. I have other stories, if you're interested though! Perhaps you'd like to hear about the Kingdom of Lok and the tribulations of a once proud land? Or maybe you'd like to be dragged in to the stories of how the Storms came to be in these lands? Of course if you like, I can tell you the story of the ornery giant again. So what'll it be, friend?' Kill Corrupted Volaas in Plane of Storms (/loc? fight info?) and loot Corrupted Storm Giant Heart. (How do you know to do this?) Forage Pure Rain Water in the Plane of Storms. Hand the Corrupted Storm Giant Heart to Derick Goodroot in Jaggedpine Forest. Derick Goodroot sighs. 'I suppose you had no option if he was corrupt. I might even be able to help you purify it for use. I'm not sure how well it will work with the seed ritual. I'm certain that the original intent was to rip the heart from an honorable foe. Here, take this bowl. You'll need to go back to the Plane of Storms and find some pure rain water to cleanse the hart. Pouring the water over the heart while in the bowl, should purify it, though it might also destroy the bowl. Never mind that, though. If it works you should be able to use the heart for the ritual. Please bring me the seed when you are done. I'd like to see it.' You receive the heart back along with a Cleansing Bowl (identifies as "Made of good clay with simple runes pressed into the sides"), a 2-slot container. Combine the Corrupted Storm Giant Heart and Pure Rain Water in the Cleansing Bowl to craft a Storm Giant Heart. Combine the Earthy Loam, Empowered Earth, Storm Giant Heart and Redwood Seed (when do you get this back?) in the Aerated Pot to craft a Seed of Wrath (identifies as "A redwood seed that pulses like a beating heart"). Hand this to Derick. Derick Goodroot says, 'Wonderful! This is an amazing seed. It has a resonance of the power of life that seems familiar. It reminds me very much of the feeling I get when one of the Storm Wardens come through here with their Nature Walkers Scimitars. It's a thrill to be able to examine it, thank you.' | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
