This is the second task in a series of four (the end result being your 69th level spell/tome). It begins with Brovil Pallivineg in Corathus Creep (southeastern part of the zone: location -750, +375).

Hail him after completing the previous task in the series.

You say, 'Hail, Brovil Pallivineg'

Brovil Pallivineg says 'Greetings _____. Do you happen to have some time to help me out? I've been studying Cicero's notes you retrieved and have found quite a bit of information about the plants in the area. If possible, I would like to continue his work, though I don't wish to meet the same end he did. If you could [gather] some samples of these plants for me I would be very grateful for your assistance. If you'd like to [check] for Cicero's notebook again let me know.'

You say, 'I will gather some samples.'

Brovil Pallivineg says, 'I have written a short list of which ones and how many I would like. You should be able to acquire them from the Sporali, though I don't know how willing they will be to give them up.'

There are three versions of this task: Low level (for 67 and under), normal and hard. The only difference between them is the quality of loot and difficulty of mobs.

You have been assigned the task 'Cavern Botany'.

Head for the Sporali's holdings and see what you can find. They probably have loads of plants around there that would be interesting to examine.

Enter the Sporali's holdings 0/1 (Corathus Creep)

Follow your compass to the instanced entrance to the Sporali Caverns.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Sporali Caverns.

Task window says: Here is the list of plants that I was especially interested in from Cicero's notes. Hopefully you can find them all for me.

Loot 2 Sap Root Stems 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Mindspore Toadstools 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Manasheen Toadstools 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Retch Spores 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Nimbus Mushroom Stalks 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

These drop randomly from sporalis all over the zone. Upon looting the last one:

The collection is complete! Close up the bag and return it to Brovil before the samples can go bad.

Also, a wooden chest spawns at the zone-in with 1 item:

Level 65 possible chest loot
Drachnid Exoskeleton Linked Gloves
Drachnid Cocoon Skin

Level 68+ possible chest loot
Hive Walker Boots
Stone Web Gloves
Wall Climber Earring

Hard chest loot
Blood Fire Signet
Crystalline Webbing of Elements
Crystalline Webbing of Growth
Web Chain Vest
Web Sweeper

Automatic Level 65 Reward:
Melee/hybrid: Hive Sentinel Belt
Caster/priest: Drachnid Collective Cloak
Melee/Hybrid: Web Pathfinder Machete

Automatic Level 68+ Reward:
Melee/hybrid: Hivegrime Stone of Health
Caster/priest: Hivegrime Stone of Faith

Automatic Hard Reward:
Melee/hybrid: Drachnid Skin Girdle
Caster/priest: Hive Silk Cloak

Possible random zone-wide rare drops:
A Lost Walking Stick (68+)
Crimson Scarf (Hard)

(Optional) Seal the bag of samples 0/1 (ALL)

The combine produces a Full Zimminfezer Sample Pack.

(Optional) Deliver 1 Full Zimminfezer Sample Pack to Brovil Pallivineg 0/1 (Corathus Creep)

Upon handing it in:

Brovil Pallivineg says 'While you were out collecting these I've been reading further into Cicero's notes. I've begun to wonder if maybe Cicero would still be [alive].'

This leads into the third task in the series, "The Search for Clues".

The following quest items now cast an effect on the caster when they loot them. Retch spores casts an effect called "Retch Weed", Sap Root Stems casts a 50k hp heal, Manasheen Toadstool casts a 50k mana heal.

The only two mobs that summon in this mission are:

a sporali defender
a sporali shaman
Fun...

I'm not overly geared for a tank 12.4k/2.1k defensives through DODH. This guys hit hard and fast! Max hit for a Hard mission was 1320, Max DPS from the mob was 678, min DPS 269. All mobs were slowed asap with 70 shaman. He had only 2 resists the whole mission using Balance of Discord.

A puller is a must, our necro was unable to effectively pull due to the speed of the mobs and resists on snare. We had to resort to the Beserker for pulls. The Zerker would take a mob and wait till the mob was nearly at the zone in than snare him, than zone. Definately not the most effective way to pull, but was our only option. Good luck, chest loot was the +6 regen melee aug.
Man this one sucks

So dd 69.1 today and I am in the middle of 69.2. Break in wasnt too bad, although my first pull, didnt realize i was gonna get 2 with a mezzer, Having 2 i was fine, but that dam mezzer my shammy/ench died(66/68) and i zoned the rest, rezzed then bard/snare/fade pulled everything else from then on.

Only problem is even bard with Fade needs to stay back as far as possible cause the mez will hit you and usually the mobs stop and dont come since your mezzed. Then re-snare, and you wont get mezzed again, although I dont know the recast time on their spell...

It stinks, since I am boxing its hard for me to stop and pull it off my cleric/chanter/shaman with my bard.

DA for the win lol...

Anyway, its very slow though... i wont finish tonight since i have been AFK for like 2.5 hours of my mission, great exp though 5% aa with 5 people.
Man this one sucks

Man, actually did this one today again, since yesterday I was AFK so much, and today I was AFK too much again, great exp, but 6 hours later I still needed 3. Boxing this is tough, have to bard pull which isnt too bad, but the problem is so many of them dang mezzer/stunner "masters". They are just a serious pain since boxing this my dps isnt super super awesome and they always go right after shammy/enchanter first before my bard can get it when I am mezzed/stunned.

All in all Hard isn't really that hard if you have a good bard puller, or other FDer.

Mobs have very high DPS even slowed but a shaman/druid could heal if you have enough DPS in Hard.

Tomorrow I will do normal just to get this one done and work on getting the spell.

Cheers,

Do you think a 70 SK real good stats all around, 70 druid as healer full healing aa's 70 ranger and 70 chanter could do this mission?

Yes, should be easy. I was doing this when it first came out and my SK had somewhere around 1600AC at the time, maybe 10k HP buffed. The only tricky part was the pulls, the rest was easy. I was boxing the mission and had zero troubles with it, so your group should do fine.
Normal was easy

My wife and i boxed the 69.2 on normal last night. Me playing warrior, shaman and mage, her playing cleric, druid and enchanter. We have read on these boards to prepare for the mission.

What we did to do breakin, enchanter AA charmed the mushroom to the left, while warrior pulled the one to the right. No troubles. After that we basically followed whats been written on the boards here. Cleared the roamers around the first intersection, including the one coming down from the spiral. We did not touch the mobs to the east at all, nor the mobs straight ahead from the zi, just started clearing the west cavern, all the way up to the city area. We spent around 4 hours before we had all drops, but we did everything nice, safe and slow. All were pulled to zi, long pulls, but was safer. Druid pulled for the most part, when he got 2 or 3, he just zoned out, rest of the group were invis, then warrior would tag one, repeat.

Only challenge was the sporali sporemaster, that mezzed the tank every 30 seconds. Trick is to NOT dot this mob, mezz it fast soon as tank is mezzed. Then full dps soon as warrior can aggro again. Had a couple of deaths due to the mob resisting mez. We debuffed, slowed, tashed and crippled all the mobs, then full nukage, easy kills. Got the Stone Web Gloves, which the shaman got. Gonna do the hard one next weekend, see how that goes.

Did this mission tonight, took about 2 hours once we got over the initial deaths that come with getting used to a new zone and layout. Once we got into a groove it went nice and smooth. Paci is really a must I'd say; weird pathing and aggro issues made FD/pet pulling all but impossible. Normal difficulty, Our chest loot was Drachnid Exoskeleton Linked Gloves - magic item lore item attuneable, AC 22 STR 12 DEX 10 STA 8 WIS 10 hps 120 mana/end 130 Sv Fire/Cold/Magic 12, classes RNG ROG SHM BER. Grats to Panx, our happy rogue =)

A Few Nasty Mobs...
# Feb 19 2006 at 6:58 PM Rating: Decent
Did this one tonight on hard, me 3-boxing warrior, enchanter, wizard. wife 2-boxing cleric and druid. The first few mobs are definitely the hardest to split and pull. The mobs here are a bit harder that 69.1:Lost Notebook (Hard) both in their dps and in their spells or special abilities. The combination of some funky mobs and a much harder snare/evac pull path in this zone made it quite a bit more difficult for us.

Small mob in this mission called "a sporali sporemaster." Did not see it in the beastiary. Cons yellow to 70. Casts a mez every 30 secs or so, very fast casting, could not interrupt: "Sporali Cloud." Single target MR-80, but at 454 MR my level 70 warrior was resisting 1 out of every 4. Bad bad bad. Made a mess of things for us and we worked hard to avoid these when we could. Otherwise, it was kill fast, mez the mob fast if the tank was mezzed, and pray.

"a sporali shaman" can also be a bit nasty, but not too bad single. They like to heal themselves alot. They have a fast casting heal "Sporali's Growth" that they cast often once below about 30%.

The druid mobs (harvester) liked to root the puller.

Once the first front area was cleared out, it wasn't so bad, since we had room to pull, but before that there was a small stack of wizard corpses.

Have finished this twice now – normal group, non-uber 70 SK tanked hard and normal missions. Took me a while to figure this out.

Pet pulls worked 70% of the time. I SEEMS as though some of the mobs are tethered together and pet pulls would not work, but on only I would guess 30% of the pairs of mobs that we encountered. For those mobs I could not split with pet pulls, I just had my necro run up, snare one, and then run to ZO and zone (lots of casters, FD failed a LOT due to spells hitting her), then my SK would tag and bring it in. I had a mage friend come try doing some of the splits, as she an amazing pet-puller. She could not split the ones that I could not get to split, so she too felt as though they are perhaps tethered together in some way. JMHO but I thought I would add it here, as I wasted a LOT of time trying to do pet pulls the first few times I tried to box this.

CoTH does NOT always loose agro in this zone, even when pulled from the north west corner of map back to ZI and thinking all was clear -

After a few attempts (and failed missions) we simply pulled everything to zone in. The pathing / warping is not too bad in here, but after one wipe I said ***** it, and long pulls are indeed the win!

Use the root trick as listed by Necessity (thank you Necessity =) for break in, it works great. After that kill the two directly north of the intersection, then snag the blasted roamer that runs up and down the ramps. There are (I think) two more roamers that came to the first intersection (just outside where we set up camp) but they do not come in far enough to agro if you are camping the ZI.

On every pull the druid would invis the entire group. Not sure if it ever saved our skin or not, but it sure didn’t hurt any.

Once you clear the initial intersection, just work up the WEST wing. You will get all of your drops but two, Manasheen Toadstool. . Once you have cleared the west wing and you are up by “the city” (the figure eight looking part on the north west corner of the map) you will get your last two drops- Manasheen Toadstool I have read that link and some other people will also confirm that they seem to only drop around that area if you are clearing the west wing.

We did this last night. 4 hours total. Got the Wall Climber Earring. Had a pally, ranger, cleric, shammy, druid, and bard. It was VERY VERY slow.

Two thoughts:

- the break in is TERRIBLY difficult. We spent a full hour trying to kill the first 2 mobs. After that, it was mostly just straight forward slaughters.

- Mobs have amazing regen! You need some serious dps. Sometimes, we would watch the mobs do some sort of spurt regen. Made killing take 2 mins a mob; sometimes more. It's not a spell or a buff, so you can't stop it.

It was fun, but much longer than we expected.

5 Grouped Normal No tank
# Feb 05 2006 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
My group and I did this Task with the following classes. We would have liked a tank but not many around to help so we had to do it the Old Fashioned way Caster Power.

Granted it took a lot of time and in the end we had 45 minutes left on Task Timer. (Normal)

(All 70) 1 Mage 2 Shammies 1 Druid 1 Cleric

The mage Air pet 66 buffed with Shamie buffs and Cleric symbol of Balikor along with Steeloak Skin for More Hps. Air Pet also had max AA Hp Base increase and damage mitigation maxed.

The trick to break the entrance to this zone was have shammie use root AA on the mob to the right of entrance. Everyone is invised as shammie roots and aggors the mob to the left he runs to zone out to loose aggro. The mob that aggroed on shammie shoud be by itself and ready to be engaed with Air pet and other shammie slows mob and cast Spirtual serinity on Pet and Cleric Chain Cast CH on pet. Mage also had Heals going when needed. Mage Lay hands helps. Nuke and dot and Rinse and repeat thru out the zone using this tactic.
The group puts all pets on mob and the other shammie Zones back into help assit with Kill.

All pets had mage toys and Mage had Suspended minon as well if first pet went down.

In all I think we had 4 deaths and those were from being summoned when tryiing to get roots to stick.

This took a lot of time however if you enjoy grouping and a challenge to defeat the odds then you can try our group make up.

The Cleric was boxing one of the shammies :)

The reward was nice however we did this to complete the task and move on to the next stage.

Stone Web Gloves - treasure chest item on normal.

This was extremely random in the drops. Got all but the last 3 in a hour and a half, then none for over an hour.

I guess you may get lucky but i took us almost 3 hours of steady pulling to get it done. Be carful they will run in the ZO wall and die then you cannot click corpses for loot.

Didn't notice anything when looting a Nimbus Mushroom Stalk, or Mindspore Toadstool.

dropped in normal mission 69 / 2 from chest !

under 10k ftw
# Dec 22 2005 at 7:40 AM Rating: Decent
6 man grp, no one over 10k, we had a SK tank it for us, with only conviction as hp buff. bard and rogue were over 9k but barely, and wizard cleric druid were you avg run of the mill toons. did it on normal, was quite difficult no less, bard pulling, had to fade a lot, can pacify all the mobs in there, ahd to resort to HoS > snare > fade > bellow.

if youre pulling to zone line, as we did for the majority of the mission, dont let them run unsnared towards zone out, our stupid wizard didnt stop his nuke and killed 2 mobs outside of loot range, possibly making us miss out on a quicker run.

no less we were under 10khp and all of us between 300 and 600 aas made it through with 3 deaths in 2.5 hours, made off with the earring and the snazzy regen aug, cant complain.

# Dec 21 2005 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
Did this with a 70 pally all def AA's 12khp tanking he tanked it fine. Cleric and shaman for heals we had a necro pulling, chanter and mage. the only one of us who wasn't 70 was the cleric who was 69 and only one death for the puller. Drops are in deed randomized oh and watch out for the enchanter mobs they have nasty habit of mezing your tank. Our pally had a hard time resisting it even with a MR near 450.
