This is the second task in a series of four (the end result being your 69th level spell/tome). It begins with Brovil Pallivineg in Corathus Creep (southeastern part of the zone: location -750, +375).

Hail him after completing the previous task in the series.

You say, 'Hail, Brovil Pallivineg'

Brovil Pallivineg says 'Greetings _____. Do you happen to have some time to help me out? I've been studying Cicero's notes you retrieved and have found quite a bit of information about the plants in the area. If possible, I would like to continue his work, though I don't wish to meet the same end he did. If you could [gather] some samples of these plants for me I would be very grateful for your assistance. If you'd like to [check] for Cicero's notebook again let me know.'

You say, 'I will gather some samples.'

Brovil Pallivineg says, 'I have written a short list of which ones and how many I would like. You should be able to acquire them from the Sporali, though I don't know how willing they will be to give them up.'

There are three versions of this task: Low level (for 67 and under), normal and hard. The only difference between them is the quality of loot and difficulty of mobs.

You have been assigned the task 'Cavern Botany'.

Head for the Sporali's holdings and see what you can find. They probably have loads of plants around there that would be interesting to examine.

Enter the Sporali's holdings 0/1 (Corathus Creep)

Follow your compass to the instanced entrance to the Sporali Caverns.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Sporali Caverns.

Task window says: Here is the list of plants that I was especially interested in from Cicero's notes. Hopefully you can find them all for me.

Loot 2 Sap Root Stems 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Mindspore Toadstools 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Manasheen Toadstools 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Retch Spores 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

Loot 2 Nimbus Mushroom Stalks 0/2 (Sporali Caverns)

These drop randomly from sporalis all over the zone. Upon looting the last one:

The collection is complete! Close up the bag and return it to Brovil before the samples can go bad.

Also, a wooden chest spawns at the zone-in with 1 item:

Level 65 possible chest loot
Drachnid Exoskeleton Linked Gloves
Drachnid Cocoon Skin

Level 68+ possible chest loot
Hive Walker Boots
Stone Web Gloves
Wall Climber Earring

Hard chest loot
Blood Fire Signet
Crystalline Webbing of Elements
Crystalline Webbing of Growth
Web Chain Vest
Web Sweeper

Automatic Level 65 Reward:
Melee/hybrid: Hive Sentinel Belt
Caster/priest: Drachnid Collective Cloak
Melee/Hybrid: Web Pathfinder Machete

Automatic Level 68+ Reward:
Melee/hybrid: Hivegrime Stone of Health
Caster/priest: Hivegrime Stone of Faith

Automatic Hard Reward:
Melee/hybrid: Drachnid Skin Girdle
Caster/priest: Hive Silk Cloak

Possible random zone-wide rare drops:
A Lost Walking Stick (68+)
Crimson Scarf (Hard)

(Optional) Seal the bag of samples 0/1 (ALL)

The combine produces a Full Zimminfezer Sample Pack.

(Optional) Deliver 1 Full Zimminfezer Sample Pack to Brovil Pallivineg 0/1 (Corathus Creep)

Upon handing it in:

Brovil Pallivineg says 'While you were out collecting these I've been reading further into Cicero's notes. I've begun to wonder if maybe Cicero would still be [alive].'

This leads into the third task in the series, "The Search for Clues".

Hard version
# Dec 17 2005 at 8:44 AM Rating: Good
- mobs hit for around 1500
- be prepared to spend over 3 hours doing the task. drops SEEM to be random.
- good puller and/or mezzer is a must.
- no repops
- some roamers are fast runners, long pulls are teh win.
- all mobs were yellow con at 70.
- I'd recommend a 13-14k+ tank with most def aa's done if you want to enjoy this task.

New item and a little more insight.

Did the normal version of this tonight. Casters received this:

Drachnid Collective Cloak
Magic Item Lore Item No Trade
Slot: Back
AC: 15
Str +9 Sta +8 Wis +11 Int +11 Agi +10
HP +115 Mana +115
Saves: Fire +10 Disease +15 Cold +10
Required lvl 58
Wt 1.1 Size: small
Class: CLR DRU SHM NEC WIZ MAG ENC
Race: All
Slot 1, Type 7

It wasn't too hard. We got a little careless a few times and a few times died. Beware of the Sporali Defenders that like to heal themselves. At times we had two mobs in the camp, and when one of them was the healing kind, it got tough.
One last thing, watch out for mobs trying to run away when they get to 15%-20% health; if you're close to the zone out, they will climb the rock and disappear and you won't be able to loot them.
This mission was the first for all of us (full group) and is a recommended way to start.

We already have a normal reward listed for casters. Can anyone clarify which item goes with which quest, and whether it's on normal or hard difficulty?

None of the (normal) loot we got last night matched the loot that is listed for this mission currently. I'm sorry, I tried to go back to see what it was, but by then, it was too late :/

I bet your average group level was below 68....we did a 69.1 mission like that and got different caster/melee awards and chest loot. Seems like there is an 'easy' level to this mission series anyways when your group average is 63+ but below 68.

Added a post under the 69.1 mission about this also.

Enjoy,

Completed this the other night as my Cleric. The Hard Reward is a Hive Silk Cloak, for Casters. Decent item, nice focus.

One other thing which is fairly important to your independantly thinking necro, about half of them summon, so you can pretty much forget about soloing this mission.

This is pretty straightforward, plain and simple.

You're to kill mobs, and loot them, and the items you need to complete the task drop off them. These drop at random, off no special mob in any special location that I know of. Maybe the mindspore toadstools drop nearer the pools in the back, but you'll be pulling from that general area soon enough what with running out of mobs in other parts.

The hard mission isn't particularly hard. A 2200ac/10khp (buffed) pally was holding it well enough that chain complete heals kept her up.

Splits are a royal pain at the start, with one shroom hiding around the right corner which adds to what looks like an easy single on the left when you come in. There's no room to FD split properly, and there could be a third wanderer add too. It's a good thing an overwhelmed group (we had no-one to mez) can run away quickly by zoning out.

It's a bit tight when you start out, but there's two large advantages on your side here. One, no repops, so you're pretty much free of hassle once you broke in and made some space, and two, nothing sees invis so you're free to look around and see what mobs are near your intended pull if you're unsure.

That said, clearing the hut and the top of the shroom isn't really worth the trouble, since it takes a bit to get it right, and they didn't drop anything special at all.

For the hard mission, casters were rewarded with a Hive Silk Cloak, and melees with a Drachnid Skin Girdle.

And yay me for winning the blood fire signet.

Task is called Cavern Botany. Some description posted under Brovil Pallivineg in Bestiary.

After completing The Lost Notebook, hail Brovil Pallivineg.
Brovil Pallivineg says 'Greetings ______. Do you happen to have some time to help me out? If possible, I would like to continue his work, though I don't wish to meet the same end he did. You say, 'Gather'

Brings up task window, can choose regular or hard.
