This group task is the first in a series of four (plus a raid) and begins with Widdlethorpe Gemfinder in the Stoneroot Falls at approximate location -65, -1200.

You say, 'Hail, Widdlethorpe Gemfinder'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'It's about time someone came looking for me! Were you sent here by the crew of expedition 328? I have been out here a long time now. Look _____, even my Gnomish time teller doesn't want to tell time anymore. I have found some [important information] and I can't wait any longer for the 328 crew to get in place here to research further.'

You say, 'What important information?'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'We dug into something deep when we landed here. Once we landed, a few of us set out to explore the lands. I've come to believe that there is [something bigger] out there that hasn't hit this place yet.'

You say, 'Something bigger?'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'Yes something evil as well. I have learned that there have been wars going on for the past many years in these lands. I get the feeling that one side is only playing with the other. They are torturing them as they die off slowly while this force grows stronger to do much more damage elsewhere. We can't wait for the rest of the expedition crew to get here. We need to [find more evidence] to back my theory up.'

You say, 'Find more evidence?'

Widdlethorpe Gemfinder says 'Yes _____. I don't have direct evidence of anything other that what I have learned. The evidence we seek will help prevent what I think is going to happen in the future. Do you [wish to help] me uncover what has happened? It could save Norrath.'

You say, 'I wish to help.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Search for Coral'.

Many years ago, Shiliskin Deathshed Priests discovered local coral that fueled their incantations and augmented their rituals. It is said that they went into the lair of the giant Korlach and lulled him under their power and used him as the defender of Illsalin. Collect some samples of the coral that the priests used to fuel their incantations so we can study it.

Find an entrance to Korlach's lair 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

The zone-in is underwater in the north part of Stoneroot Falls. The instance "Lair of the Korlach" consists primarily of underwater tunnels. There are AE-spell traps and random see-invis mobs throughout the zone.

Search for the priests that hold the power of control 0/1 (Lair of the Korlach)

The priests are located in a dry cavern. Travel north until you get to a water cavern with two exits to the north. Take the left path. This is updated when you enter the tunnel to the room containing the chest and High Priest Trelikin (approximate location 1230, 200, 64).

Weaken the priests by removing their guards 0/6 (Lair of the Korlach)

Guards called "a drained deathshed _____" and hit for 800 with full defensive AAs. They also have a proc for 1500 damage.

Once you have killed the six guards, High Priest Trelikin and the two a shiliskin deathshed priest standing with him become active. Killing the High Priest completes this stage.

High Priest Trelikin spawns 4 additional mobs for every 25% health lost. When this happens the room shakes and there is an emote:

The Dark Mystical Chest glows as High Priest Trelikin draws power from it to resurrect the fallen.

Overcome the power of the priests by ending their ceremony 0/1 (Lair of the Korlach)

High Priest Trelikin spawns 4 additional mobs for every 25% health lost. The adds are mezzable. High Priest Trelikin will heal himself but won't spawn anything extra if he heals past (say) 50% and is then damaged back to 50%. When the boss dies, all of the spawned NPCs remain and go back to the room with the dark mystical chest.

You have slain High Priest Trelikin!
High Priest Trelikin's corpse shrieks out before collapsing to the ground.

Gather the samples of the coral from the chest 0/1 (Lair of the Korlach)

This updates when you loot Enchanted Corathus Coral from the dark mystical chest.

Return to Widdlethorpe with the sample at once 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Upon handing in the coral:

Widdlethorpe looks over the enchanted coral and commends you on a job well done.

You receive a Magical Corathus Coral, required for the next task "Learning the Power".

Soloed this as an 86/1350 Wizard, with a J5 tank merc to help keep some mobs busy.

I cleared the entire zone, mostly single or double pulls. There's no respawn. (This was on normal FWIW.)

The priests likewise came either one or two at a time. When it came to the guards, I was able to prox aggro them without getting the High Priest at the same time, letting me handle the High Priest one on one. With 2nd spire and twincast, I got lucky for some big crits and killed him with two nukes. He only spawned one set of adds, so if you can DPS him fast enough you shouldn't have to deal with too many mobs.

I've been soloing a lot of the DoD quests to finish the Werewolf mask I started in 2006 before retiring; this one worried me going in to it, but wasn't any harder than most of the others.

Soloable as a necro, 80, 1200aa

Undead mez and undead slow (mitigated), which works on all of these mobs, even the High Priest, although he was a bit resistant.

I cleared till only the High Priest was left.

Sent pet on Priest, slowed Priest, and let pet tank down to 75%, generating plenty of agro to keep the priest interested in your pet the entire time. I just set back and healed pet from time to time. When Priest is near 75%, make sure pet is healed to 100% or close because you're going to be busy for a moment.

At 75%, 4 mobs spawns. Mez them one by one while your pet keeps the High Priest busy. These mobs don't have many hps, as three dots killed them pretty quickly.

Once these mobs are dead, check mana situation. You can always mez High priest to give time to med if you need. Once ready, reslow, and wait till mez breaks, attack with pet down to 50%. Same as before with the 4 adds.

Another round of 4 adds at 25%.

The Priest will heal himself, but won't trigger any more than 12 mobs. For instance, if he's already triggered his first set of 4, even if he heals back to 100%, he won't re-trigger that set.

This is a fun mission to do solo, imo.
Completed task tonight, its not bugged
# Sep 02 2006 at 3:09 AM Rating: Decent
In response to the previous post, this event isnt bugged. I successfully completed it tonight 9/1/06. FYI the trash mobs hit approx 850 tops, then tend to cast a lot and are a pita. There are some undead in teh mission, all the shilikins are undead, but the orcs and witherans are all alive. For the final mob the guards and priests around him hit for about 1066 max, on me as a necro. The Final Named is himself undead and the mobs he spawns are all undead as well. We found the best way to beat the final named was to mez the adds, mez the named, and then pick off the adds one at a time. They do tend to swarm right after summoning so it does get pretty rough most of the time when they spawn. A chanter with AE mez would be idea, but with 2 necros for the adds and a bard to lock down the named it went pretty well. I strongly discourage anyone from trying to kite the adds as they spawn, we were overrun with mobs when we thought we could just burn the named down and deal with the adds as they came.

i tried this one twice (normal) and each time we got the emote to kill the guards (i forget exactly waht the text was) NOTHING new spawns! we cleared the zone and there was just NOTHING there to kill/progress the task on.

anyone else having problems? or can anyone else shed light on what i might be doing wrong?

We have had the same issue on the Rathe. This mission is bugged and Bellfast 3 is bugged so we are stalled on our quests to get the clicky masks until these two missions are fixed.
Guards

Ton of info on this one already here, so I'll just post my experience with it.

First tried the mission after PoR was just out, the bugged traps that kept going of 2 or 3 times in a row, made it totally unplayable.

Went back after the trap fix, and now the mission is very doable.

Group make up is 70 Pal,Cle,Sha,Nec,Dru and Ran. I (Ran) did most of the pulling, Druid evac'd if it was to nasty.

We cleared the whole way, because it was just easier that way to negate traps. (traps going off and bringing 10 mobs ain't fun).

I was kinda scared of the final boss, but he was actually very fun to do. All the pops are snarable. So we snared and necro mezzed them. On 75 and 50% we mezzed the named as well, on 25% we just mezzed the adds and finished of the named.
The adds didn't hit to hard (sorry, no real nrs), and in their snared form they were easilly outrun by the group members, untill mezzed/rooted.

Enjoy the mission (it felt like a group raid :)

Traps are here, incase you want to invis by everything you can NOT always do this. Respawns are horrible in this mission. You WILL need crowd control. The effect that hit us (Just as I told everyone there were no see invis mobs at the first two way, was this:

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=7309

Was just a horrible wipe. About 10 mobs jumped us and we all started off with -3k hp. Be warned this mission is no push over.

We waited for a couple hours for a guild chanter to become available due to the info here and other ppl saying we needed to have one.

Group was War Clr Rng Nec Nec Enc and this encounter was as trivial as can be. We had 3 people in group who were capable of mezzing, because these mobs are UNDEAD. A good necro is just as handy as a chanter for this.

Mission Info

Talk to Widdlethorpe Gemfinder in Stoneroot Falls to get the mission.

Step 1: Find an Enterance to the Korlach's lair

enterance to the underwater tunnel is +921, -1047
this will lead you to your zone

Step 2: Search for the priests that hold the power of control

This task stage completed itself as we moved along

Step 3: Weaken the priests by removing thier guards

In the top left corner of the second big room full of Witherans, there is a gap with 2 Witherans in it. You want to pull them and go through the gap. You will be in a spot that leads to a dry hallway, pull the roamer in the hallway and move up onto blessedly dry land. Pull the guards (a shiliskin deathshed guardian) out and kill as best you can. Once 6 are dead, this stage is complete

Step 4: Overcome the power of the priests by ending thier ceremony

Pull the priests and kill them. The High Priest didnt agro until after the regular priest was dead.

Kill High Priest Trelikin. He spawns 4 adds at EACH 75%, 50%, 25%. [Text: The Dark Mystical Chest glows as High Priest Trelikin draws power from it to resurrect the fallen] There are 2 ways to do this here, you can mez the High Priest and kill off the adds, or you can mez the adds and kill off the priest. Either way gets pretty out of control quickly. Good Luck.

Note: Due to the text I believe the chest is unopenable until after you kill the High Priest, though I cannot confirm this.

Step 5: Gather the samples of the coral from the chest

Loot the chest where the High Priest was standing.
This will have the coral sample and your loot for the mission.

Step 6: Return to Widdlethorpe with the sample at once

Give Widdlethorpe the coral you looted from the chest.

DONE!!!

Some advice...

Move quickly, respawns happen fast.
Bring crowd control and/or FD puller
The mobs in the first room are Pacifiable, but still require an FD puller to get singles. They are jammed together.
The first pull most likely will be 3, prepare for it.
The caster type witherans will cast on you forever, just nuke em where they stopped, or you will spend so much time waiting for them to come in that you will get repops behind you before the room infront of you is clear.

Thats all I can offer.

Just wanted to add two things that our group noticed.

1) The first room is tough, but we were able to get the wanderer singly by simply standing near the front of the entry pool. He aggro'd naturally by himself and we got no adds. After that, we used Placate and were able to get all singles. The respawns is fairly fast though, so you need to hop to it.

2) On the final fight, we also were getting 4 adds at a time. The first set of adds, we tried to mezz the name and then kill the adds. Our enchanter was getting a ton of resists mezzing the named, and he felt more comfortable using AE mezz on the next 3 set of adds and for us to kill the named ASAP. He went through 2 pools of mana to do this, so I would not bring just any ole chanter on this mission (used gather mana), just to give you an idea on how tough this method of CC was.

3) The mobs only hit like...in the 800s, so getting 2 in camp isn't a total nightmare like it is in some of the hard missions. There didn't appear to be a "hard" option for the Korlach arc, so placate and tanking 2 at a time is an option.

The adds
# Nov 11 2005 at 6:47 AM Rating: Decent
Dear god, the adds... how do you deal with them?

I took a group through here, was easy, albeit crap exp, until the final fight. Killed the six guards, killed the two priests, pulled high priest, and then BAM, the adds came. We had 2 tanks, plus an enchanter, but we just couldn't deal with the 8 adds we suddenly had. How do you account for these? How are they dealt with? Do you just eat the high priest down a little ways, then kill the wave of adds, eat him down a little more, eat the next wave of adds, until he's dead? Or does he spawn a wave every x seconds or whatnot?
RE: The adds
# Nov 11 2005 at 1:38 PM Rating: Good
Adds spawn at 75-50-25 health. We had enchanter and bard mezzing and AE mezzing and a mage pet off-tanking. If you have an off tank, it would probably be a good idea to kill off each wave of adds, then switch back to named. The adds don't hit hard, just so many of them.
buggy?
# Nov 09 2005 at 12:02 AM Rating: Decent
Killed the 6 guards, the two priests, the high priest. Looted teh coral, and got no task updates. Tried various ways, and never got a task update, just kept saying seek out the priests. any ideas? I looted coral after all adds were dead, and high priest was dead. even got emote about the power of the chest being silenced, and still no update.
info
# Nov 08 2005 at 7:02 PM Rating: Decent
You need to find The High Priest, who is in the west tunnel branch. He and his two priests are not attackable until you kill his six guards. The two priests activate when the guards are dead. The High Priest when the two priests are dead.

As his health goes down, The High Priest summons adds. When they are dead you can loot the coral from a chest, which is what you give back to Widdlethorpe to complete the task.

Found in stoneroot, you /open the coral growths to find them. However, you'll get little withereans popping out at random, who see invis.
RE: Coral
# Nov 02 2005 at 1:44 PM Rating: Good
The coral spawns in Stoneroot have nothing to do with this shared task. You're thinking of the solo task "The Coral Bogs" given out by Slavetrader Arag in Undershore.

This task given out by Widdlethorpe is the first in a story arc. It sends you to "Lair of the Korlach" (westkorlachc) which is an instanced zone in the northern area of Stoneroot.

Bring a couple of tanks, or CC. You'll know why when it hits you ;)
