This is a group monster mission that begins with Scout Bristlethorp in Undershore, at /loc 1170, 810, (northwest corner of the zone).

You say, 'Hail, Scout Bristlethorp'

Scout Bristlethorp says 'Tick tockles! Where did you come from? You scared the bolts right out of me. I about oiled my pants. I thought you were one of the [werewolves] out looking for food.'

You say, 'Werewolves?'

Scout Bristlethorp says 'Well, I been out here scouting the lands for awhile now. It wasn't too long after we crashed the Burrownizer that a few of us scouts set out to see what we could find. From what I have learned, there was a [huge war] fought in this area awhile ago. Not many creatures around here will talk about it, because it seems there was no victor, or they won't admit that. I pieced most of it together through the bits I discovered in writings and brief chats with the shiliskin traders.'

You say, 'What huge war?'

Scout Bristlethorp says 'They call it the War of the Four Crests. The shiliskins move in on the drachnids and skirmishes break out. The werewolf tribes then choose different sides and join the battle! The Shadowmanes join the side of the drachnids, and weren't happy about it for some reason. The Ragepaws choose to fight their brethren and join the shiliskin. Some of the artifacts that I discovered showed evidence of an [elite force] of Shadowmanes too, with fancy armor and weapons.'

You say, 'An elite force?'

Scout Bristlethorp says 'I'm not entirely sure what this so called elite force consisted of other than they floated in through the middle of this battle and crippled the Ragepaw forces. I have it here in one of my bags. Would you [like to see it]? I'll need it back, of course.'

You say, 'I'd like to see it'

Scout Bristlethorp digs in his bag and hands you a skull with some markings on it.

You receive "A Rune-Etched Werewolf Skull".

You have been assigned the task 'Shadowmane Invasion'.

Looking at the strange marks on the skull you start to imagine the battle between the four forces. The markings tell you that the Shadowmanes attacked first.

Find and destroy the foul Ragepaw Elders. Ensure that their last breath is a painful one.

You can choose to play either a rogue shadowmane or a monk shadowmane.

Enter the Snarlstone Dens 0/1 (Undershore)

The instance entrance is located nearby.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Snarlstone Dens.

Slay the three Ragepaw Elders 0/3 (Snarlstone Dens)

These can be found in separate dead-end rooms among the dens. A small grey crate should spawn upon the third Elder's death, in which you find an explosive, the task's loot, and experience shards.

? ? ?

? ? ?

Last two steps?

Use the explosive on the door that leads to "Ultrok, the Savage Lord", and then kill him.

A chest with loot will drop after killing all 4 mini-bosses.

The common drop is Phantasmal Clockwork-Crafted Pauldrons, while the rare is the Phantasmal Lichen-Covered Shortsword.

Phantasmal Clockwork-Crafted Pauldrons transmute to:
???? (level 1-10)
Slime-Covered Pauldrons (level 11-20)
Fungus-Encrusted Pauldrons (level 21-30)
Shiliskin Enchanted Shoulder Pads (level 31-40)
Tarnished Pauldrons of Control (level 41-50)
Polished Pauldrons of Control (level 51-60)
Malgrinnor Captain's Pauldrons (level 61-70)

Phantasmal Lichen-Covered Shortsword transmutes to:
???? (level 1-10)
Rusty Darkore Shortblade (level 11-20)
Dull Darkshore Shortblade (level 21-30)
Darkore Shortblade (level 31-40)
Malgrinnor Footman's Shortsword (level 41-50)
Shiliskin's Enchanted Shortsword (level 51-60)
Malgrinnor Captain's Shortsword (level 61-70)

Upon completing this monster mission you can request the second one from the Scout, "Defending the Caves".

Any luck getting to Ultrok?

After reading some of the strats I decided to give the mission a try for a baby SK on the FV server. Twice I've gotten all 3 elders killed, looted the sword, exp shard and explosives but haven't been able to trigger the door to blow up. I triesd putting the explosives in every main inventory slot, deleting every other item, anything.... The door remains inactive and shut.

Has anyone had any luck finishing this mission since 2006? Haha.
Still no luck...

In 2023 we're still having the issue that Jujigoo was having in 2018. The friggin door won't open now matter how we try to blow it up. I reported it to the daybreak forums just now. It had been reported in late 2022, so maybe they didn't know about the issue until recently. Or maybe they just don't care.
ALMOST Duo-able
# Jul 10 2009 at 11:33 PM Rating: Decent
Used a merc to get the task today. As soon as we zoned in, the merc was automatically suspended. We managed to get all the way to Ultrok, the final boss (both monks), but couldnt get to him fast enough between deaths to keep him from regen-ing. Plus the mobs respawned along the path to him, so we always got hammered shortly after we got to him. It took us about 45 minutes to take out the elders, but spend the last hour trying different ideas to kill Ultrok to no avail. He goes back to his initial location just before he reaches the big center room, so we couldn't pull him back to the respawn area either.

Wanna duo it? Go ahead, but make sure you have buddies (at least one) for the final kill, or I'm not sure it's even possible to do it with just two.

Best of luck and i hope this helps.

Also! Be prepared when looking for help for people to not wanna help you since MMs (monster missions) kinda killed the game at one point for a lot of people. Again, good luck!

Bugged?
# Jan 09 2009 at 12:05 AM Rating: Decent
My wife and I attempted this many times last night and the whole thing seemed bugged. Many times we would be unable to attack, or use abilities. Sometimes we would get that our abilities were already used and thus on cooldown, but the ability would still be clickable. Is anyone else having these problems? It made it impossible to complete and was extremely frustrating.
Easiest MM

This is by far the easiest monster mission to do. All you need is 2-3 Invis Potions to run across Undershore and past the ragepaw camp. Be careful with the islands in the middle because undead will see you. The minimum you need is 3 people to complete this fairly fast. Your teammates can die as many times as they want in this monster mission. There is no penalty what so ever.

Sarianth's post helps out to the fullest. Everyone must be Monks. All the AA selections are perfect. Do not burn Whirlwind, save that for the boss. As the Commander sends his units out, he will wait at the cave entrance. Few seconds later he will choose either right or left. If you stick with him the entire time, you should be all right. In every Elder cave, target the Elders then destroy the adds later. If you die, just run back.

At the third Elder cave, a small grey crate will spawn as soon as you kill the Elder. Make sure you loot everything (Shards, explosive and reward) in there before continuing. Blow up the door and youll be face to face with the boss. Have one person designated to tank, then a backup and possibly a third. The first tank will burn Whirlwind. The backup tank will burn War Bellow a few seconds before the main tank's Whirlwind ends and get aggro. Turn the boss, then burn Whirlwind. If you havnt killed him yet, the backup tank may die and the first tank can burn Pain Tolerance or Stonestance.

Simple? No? You get a phatty Paladin/SK sword, 4 yellows of AA exp at level 70 and 1-2 blues of regular experiance at 56. Play around with the mission monsters. Say make a pure tank Monk and a pure dps Monk. Happy Huntin'

Alright, I've noticed that all the info here is very vague, and anyone who's done this after reading these posts would probably agree.

First off, me and my best friend have done this quest over and over by boxing two chars each. So 2 people, 4 chars fo the mission. And we feel that we have found the best way to acomplish this MM.

Now to begin... This MM starts by saying "Shadowmane" to the Scout, not by following the scouts dialogue. Just go up to him without invis and say "Shadowmane" and you'll get the MM. And the entrance is the big doors to the scouts left, right next to him.

Choose your chars to be ALL monks, rogues are useless and die too fast all in all.

Know first that you will die ALL the time, your chars will always be the ones the Ragepaws will hit if you're close to them, which is fine, just run back constantly over and over. Sometimes the Shadowmane Vicar's will heal you, most of the time not so just be prepared to die all the time.

Know also that Commander Darktooth does NOT need to be kept alive, sometimes he runs off and does stupid things. He's the biggest DPS and tank compared to the shadowmane other then your characters. So it's helpful for him to be alive, but it's not a must.

The AA's to get to complete this mission are also key. We think we've found the best combo which is.

Attack speed 8
Combat Agility 4
Combat Fury 4
Double Riposte 4
Run speed 4
Innate stamina 7
Physical Enhancement 1
Flurry 6
Stalwart Endurance 3

This should use up all your AA's.

The other key is to use Ward of the Garou!! Always use it, it almost doubles your DPS ( have parsed it ).

And as someone said, make an assist key for Commander Darktooth, when or if he dies just use the normal way to target, pita but easiest.

After all your AA's are done and hotkeys assigned. Run up the tunnel to the Commander. Say to him, "Ready" And it will start the event. Just sit back for a bit at this point, as he runs forward a bit, a few shadowmane flunkies run down and around and get all funky, then he walks back to his first position, after a bit the ground will rumble and the baddest Ragepaw eldar will shout some mumbo jumbo, then shadowmanes come down from the tunnel you started at and eventualy the Commander will follow. Follow him, sometimes he goes left, sometimes he goes right. Just follow him either way and assist him in his kills, even if you die right away, which you most likely will, just run back to him and keep assisting and killing.

When Commander Goes Left Strategy:

Which way he goes is really a big thing, when he goes left, only a couple shadowmane flunkies will come with him and you, if any at all, so you usualy don't have any healers and not much dps other then your group and the commander. Doesn't matter though, Usualy 2, somtimes 3 Ragepaw will attack him and you at this point, kill them, ( keep running bakc if you die! And when you do die, use your Ward of the Garou right away when you zone back at the entrance, then run back ). After they all die the commander will run down the left side tunnel, now when YOU enter this tunnel eventualy it will trigger a type of trap that spawns a horde of bats that fly down the tunnel and hit you for big damage and then die, the MSG to let you know when they're about to come is "You hear a faint noise in the distance", you're group can wipe to these bats, so what you want to do is either run as fast as you can behind the commander and up to the first tunnel on the LEFT, which is where the nasty Eldar Ragepaw is, doing so you will usuably be able to avoid the bats. If you're unlikely and maybe get stuck in a rock run back out of the tunnel and turn left and get as far away from it as you can and the bats will fly down the tunnel and ramp harmlessly. After that, run back in and up the left tunnel and do not assist the commander just target the Eldar Ragepaw and Kill him ASAP, whoever get's aggro on him first, use your stonestance discipline, you're group needs to kill him as fast as possible and once the first of you die from him, he will attack another of you, same thing, use stonstance disp. Keep running back. This Ragepaw is the worst because after about 5 minutes he will spawn 5 more Ragepaw cronies. If you don't kill him fast enough and he summons at least 3 times, you're mission is toast and you need to remove from it and start over. So kill him fast and once he does die, if you're still alive when he does, keep helping to kill the left over Ragepaw till you die, once you die, run down the RIGHT side ramp and down into the tunnel, same trap is there as well and you want to use the same strategy to get away from them, run back out of the tunnel, or run as fast as you can down the tunnel and into the first right hand tunnel, where the next Eldar awaits defeat. This one is easy, just keep attacking him and tanking him, running back after you die and attacking again, and remember to buff. Once he dies the shadowmane will run out of the tunnel and turn right, and go down the main tunnel and start attacking in a four-way interesection room, where 3 ragepaw are waiting at. They will attack the first one they see. Target the one you see that most of the Shadowmane are attacking and when he dies, do the same till all 3 are dead. Then you and all the shadowmane will run straight up the RIGHT side tunnel towards the next Eldar, whom is the easiest of all. They go up a right hand tunnel and kill a lame ragepaw guard first, help them. Then run into the room and kill the Eldar in there, same strat as the second Eldar. Once this is done you've completed the first task and in that room is a little crate which you open by using the /open command then loot it, this is where your reward, explosives and XP shard are. The sword is the most common drop, VERY common in fact, while the shoulders are very rare. We've done this about 30 or 40 times and have only gotten it 7 times total =\. Anyways.....

When Commander Goes RIGHT strategy:

Run after him and right away some ragepaw will attack him and your group. When he goes this way, the ragepaw the spawn on the LEFT side, will come after you as well, so you usualy have to fight 5 mobs total, but luckily when you go this way, you get the aid of almost all the shadowmane flunkies, and a lot of times they will heal you as you fight. Once those five are dead he continues to run down the right side. Follow him into the tunnel and remember the bat trap! Once you've avoided the bats ( or if not ) Follow the captain and the flunkies in their attack on the 3 guards that guard the entrance to the first eldar. Kill them, go in the cave and kill the eldar and remember to use Stonestance when you get aggro on him. once he dies, if the commander is still alive they will run out of the tunnel and instead of going right, they go left and up along the ridge/ramp, the long way around, and then into the left tunnel, avoid the bat trap again. Then follow him into the nasty Eldar's room, now when this happens it's kind of luck as to what your success will be, if you run in and there's already 5 of the eldars flunkies spawned, that means some of the other stupid shadowmane did not follow the commander and lead their own attack on Eldar Renzai ( morons ) And got him to spawn his first set of adds, usualy when this happens it's best to quit the mission and start over ( yes BIG pita and waste of time ) But for the most part this doesn't happen and he's sitting in there with just his 2 flunkies. Use the same strategy I listed on him above and basically pray he dies. After that continue to help the shadowmane in the cave till they're all dead. then they and yourself will all run out of the tunnel and to the left and into that four-way intersection room, and start attacking the 3 mobs there, kill them. Then they run up to the last eldar, same start. Oh yes and I forgot to mention, there is antoher bat trap once you go up that tunnel, easy to avoid just run up to last Eldar's tunnel and they go by harmlessly and there isn't that many anyways. Kill the Eldar, loot your stuff. And now for the big fight.

Once those stages are complete, the Commander and/or His flunkies run off and despawn at the entrance, don't follow them, stay in the Eldar cave and get your lewt. Once you're ready, buff up with Garou and then head out of the cave and to your right. You will eventualy encounter a single Ragepaw, Have the group member with the lowest HP attack him first to get aggro, then everyone else attack, hopefully that member will die and respawn at entrance with 75% life and he/she can run back to aid your group, once that members dies, if the ragepaw is under 20% health he usualy starts to walk off, kill him of course. if not then he'll attack another member of your group. Now once your other member gets back and that ragepaw is dead, rebuff and go down the tunnel and at the end, to your right is another ragepaw , do NOT go left, just right. Again have the member with lowest HP attack him first, kill him. After that, anyone that is 65% health or lower..Run backwards into the two mobs that are down the tunnel and sacrefice yourselves so you spawn with 75% health. then run back to the group, where the door to the last Eldar is. Now sit and heal up using your healing will disciplines, sit and wait to 100% life on your first try. You can go right away after you've done this a few times and know the strat. Then the member who looted the explosives goes and clicks on the door, window pops up, click yes, and door explodes. Buff up again.

Last Eldar Strat:
This guy can be real tough and real easy at the same time. We tried the strats posted here about running around at low life while rest of group beats on him, but if he's off his platform for too long, he wil lose aggro and walk back to it and heal back to 100% life. So that strat imo is no good. What we do is...

Assign a first MT. Have him go up to the bottom of the left ramp that goes up to the Eldar. Have the rest of the group in the same position but on the right side. When you're all ready, have the first MT run up to the Eldar and start kicking and taunting, use the War Bellow disc RIGHT AWAY. And have the rest of the group run up and start attacking as well right after the MT runs up the ramp to engage. When the first MT gets to 70-80% life. Use Whirlwind Discipline. This will hit him constantly without you ever getting hit until it wears off. As SOON as you see msgs that you're getting hit. Use your Pain Tolerance Discipline and keep on taunting and hitting..Eventualy the MT will die and the Eldar will attack someone else in the group..That group member do the exact same thing as the first MT. And have everyone else behind the Eldar as well. After he goes past 20% life the mission will end randomly, it could be when he's at 19%, or as low as 4%. if you do it right you can complete this with the rest of the group standing, and if you do it with 6 people group, you might even be able to kill him with your entire group alive! Once this happens you are ported out to Undershore right away, at the front of the Snarlstone Den entrance doors.

This can be the funnest and easiest MM in the game. And also the most infuriating because the Commander and his flunkies sometimes do the stupidest things that end up ruining your mission and you have to start over. As long as you kill Eldar Renzai though you're pretty much golden and can complete the MM without difficulty.

Our current record time is 16 minutes to complete this, and we pushed our boxed chars to the limit to do so. But with 4 chars, boxed, I thought it was pretty good....Hope this helps, the sword is a very good weapon for almost any SK/PAL who isn't in a high-end raiding guild. And the shoulders are good for anyone who doesn't have better as they are all/all.

Not broken
# Mar 07 2006 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
Successfully got the sword tonight (not for me, unfortunately). In the third Elder's room after he was killed, there was a box on the floor and it had shards and the sword, and the explosives of course. We had some trouble using the explosives - I think you have to have them in a main inventory slot and left-click the door.
Broken
# Feb 02 2006 at 2:18 AM Rating: Decent
Well this mission, being my favorite, seems to be broken after Sony's ingenious creation of the Shard of Wisdom.

Unless my entire group and I are completely blind, then there was never an opportunity to loot the shards of wisdom NOR the sword/shoulderpads. I figured they would be in the box with the explosives (like the loot item usually is) but neither were there. So I figured a chest would pop after defeating Ultrok, but no. In fact, it said Mission Completed and booted us from the zone before he even had a chance to give his line about surrendering. No exp, no loot, 1 hour down the toilet.

So I'm pretty mad. Are others experiencing this on different servers? Or did we simply miss the loot somewhere?

The key to thois mission is Commander Darktooth.

When ya log in ALL make a special assist key :

/assist Commander Darktooth

When you are all set to go talk to the commander and follow him.. Whenever he attacks stop and assist him.. He will go from elder to elder and kill all 3.. After he kills the last of the elders he goes bye bye.. Loot the last elder for your loot and the box of explosives.. Use the explosives on the door to the last named.. To kill last named try kiting him around his room.

IF at any thime before the 3 elders are killed the Commander gets killed.. leave the mission and retry..

Hae I won this way ya ask?? Uh well no, BUT the 1st time we tried this we did get all the elders killed but could not get the last named killed..

We tried 2 other times, but both times the commander got killed.. Soooo Good Luck..
Tactic ?!?

Two things. One, you don't have to be 65-70 to do this. I jsut took my 56 SK alt through this mission. GOt him phat real exp and the sword. Unfortunately the sword is a lower versio than the lvl 70 one making it worse in overall stats than the Blade of Disruption he is currently wielding. Two, the best strat is to all choose monks and just follow the Commander and his Shadowmane guards around killing whatever they kill making sure you focus on each Elder that they stop at. If you die just run back and keep swinging. For the named at the end, have one of your group tank the named to 90% to get aggro. Then have the rest of the group assist till the mob gets to about 30%. Once that happens, have the MA kite the named around with everyone else swinging on its back. If you own health or the MA's health gets to 30% or lower blow the Whirlwind disc and then have someone else get aggro and continue fighting until the end. You don't want someone dying and then zoning back in while you finish the last mob because the task always ends before the named dies.

Ok, here goes. I failed this mission about a hundred times cause I misread the quest text the first time. I was killing Commander Darktooth as I for some reason thought he was one of the elders I was supposed to kill.. Anyway friends eventually suggested not killing him and we didn't and it worked wonders. The best strategy we've come up with is just to follow him and kill whatever he's killing. Runspeed is important in this mission for training and kiting, buy up quick. The room to the south is by far the worst, and any other room could be taken without darktooth, but if you let him go in there alone he'll get himself killed and you'll be hopeless. Once the three elders are down take the crate of explosives that you looted and run down to the door and blow it up. If you're lucky then your army cleared the way, but if not have one person take one for the team and train to the door and hang a left to drag all mobs away. By the way it tells you that you should move when you set it, but it doesn't hurt you if you don't (lame). Now, have one person pop a defensive disc and go solo the last named till they get low hit point agro, at this point run, everyone else chases and snares/whacks till he gets to under 20% and he will "surrender" and you win. Be careful because he will change direction if you get too far ahead of him, and if he keeps changing his attention to someone else then just have them melee him down to low hp agro and let them run him. Took us five people, but one was my boxed druid that I used just to train people back to his room if they died or whatever. I will also give a little insight into the mission this unlocks as it's not listed here as a quest yet. It's called Defending the lair, or something like it. It can be done with four people (one boxed.. I'll come back to what a pain this was) and you are now playing as the other side defending the same cave from Darktooth and his flunkies, only of course they got a bit tougher and smarter. Choices on this mission are tank and shammy (woot I can heal myself again!) Send one of each to the north and south room and assist your elder in wiping out the dirty shadowmanes(I was boxing a tank in north, and a shammy in south, I thought my head was going to explode from watching two rooms at once) once all their elites have came and you've kicked em in the teeth you must go after darktooth himself. All three of your elders and the final named will rush the cave entrance (the previous mission's entrance anyway since you spawned at the opposite end of the cave) and take out darktooth. most of the wolfs i didn't bother slowing in the north and south cause mana is so hard to keep and they died so quick, but slow and dot and the summon pet thing is a must here. anyway he dies pretty quick and you get your reward (we got nice chain something or another, no chain wearers in my inner circle really Smiley: frown)Anyway, I highly enjoy doing new and different monster missions, so if you'd like to participate, or maybe just need some advice send me a tell on bertoxx.

Just did this mission with 5 people in the group, 3 monks and 2 rogues. Our strategy was to slowly peel the guards out of the elder's room and allow our shadowmane buddies to gang up on just a few of the guards at a time maximizing dps. The real problem came when we got to the Elder in the South Section of the Cave. He seems to have the most guards initially, but like every other Elder he spawns a small few as his health gets to a certain percentage. But, whenever you kill the last elder the box spawns with the crate of explosives as well as whatever reward you are to receive, then you just rush down to the door with the explosives in your inventory and click on the door to activate them. After blowing open the door, our group cleared the path down to Ulthork and constantly rushed him one or two at a time allowing for others to respawn and get to him in order to join in the battle. The most we ever had beating on him at once was three. At 15% he essentially surrenders and you have succeeded. Unfortunately, we got the sword :(, we were after the shoulders :D.

The best way I know how to describe the Scout's location is to run to the most northern west corner where, if you have a map, will be a place called Zone to Instance. Its a big door behing the ragepaws, around the corner of that big door is a little cubby hole and that is his location. He is untrackable for those wishing to use a druid or ranger to find him easily. :)

I've seen people posting about the loot from this mission on another thread, with a date later than the huge nerf of this mission. I've wasted many of my friends time dragging them to this mission, only to not be able to defeat it in the given time.. Even if we were given 6 hours I still don't think we could beat it. Killing the 2
Elders to the north is easy enough, but the one on the south that has an entire army of guards on him we just can't seem to touch. We've tried to train all of his guards out of the room and run them around the entire zone many times only to die with only doing 10-20% to the elder which is immediately CH'ed when his clerics get back to him. Is this mission possible? I'd really like to complete it, not for the xp, but the knight sword before soe does their nerf all MMs even further patch.. Any help would be much appreciated.
