This is the final task in a series of five (the end result being your 70th level spell/tome) and begins with Jarzarrad the Prophet who can be found in Undershore at -960, +650.

You say, 'Hail, Jarzarrad the Prophet'

Jarzarrad the Prophet says 'I know why you are here, _____.' He nods as you approach. 'I have known why you'd be here since before you were born. You are the _____ who will learn the secrets of [Shadowspine].''

You say, 'Shadowspine?'

Jarzarrad the Prophet says 'Yessss, Shadowspine. . . The drachnid book of the dead. . . The tome stolen by the Shiliskin Empire during the War of Four Crests. Shadowspine corrupted Emperor Draygun and drove him mad with the promise of power. Ultimately, Draygun's study of the tome led him to unleash terrible magic in Illsalin which turned him into a lich and bound the fallen warriors of two armies, both drachnid and shiliskin, to his will. You may not even know of Shadowspine yet. . . But you will. . . Let me know when you are [ready] to trace your fate.'

You say, 'I am ready'

Jarzarrad the Prophet says 'So be it. Here is what you must do. '

There are two versions of this task: Normal and hard. The only difference between them is the quality of loot and difficulty of mobs.

You have been assigned the task 'Into the Shadows'.

Jarzarrad speaks gravely, 'You don't look well, my friends. In fact you wear the same haunted expression that many shiliskin guards wore shortly before they were devoured by Draygun's accursed spellbook. The look of a creature displaced from its grave.'

'Although you defeated the Seeker, it still served Draygun's purpose. It has marked you with the dark magic of Shadowspine. You will now slowly fade away. Not even I can predict what will happen, for the only ones to return from where you're going... are the living dead.'



Speak with Brother Stillpool 0/1 (Undershore)

Stillpool is located just outside Jarzarrad's tent.

You say, 'Hail, Brother Stillpool'

I can try my best to stave off the effects of Shadowspine, but you are all ready slipping away. What you must face, you will face alone. . .

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Shadow Spine.

Your surroundings are unfamiliar. Although the tower's architecture appears to be of obvious shiliskin make, the sphere floating in the center of the room suggests far more sinister craftsmanship. A strange cold radiates from its surface and you hear the susurrations of a thousand overlapping whispers emanating from within.

'Shadowspine draws its power from all it touches. Your death will only deepen its dark ink.'

'You are a fly in a spider's web, trapped in something you do not understand. So too is Draygun though he realizes it not. . .'

'For though Draygun wields Shadowspine, I, the true author, hold sway over the demi-plane within. . .'

'You are a fly in my web, but I release you. . .'

'For now. . .'

You zone into a room with two locked doors and a spinning orb in the center. When you click the orb, three lingering shadows spawn and attack. Kill them to unlock the doors.



Drain 3 Soul Cages to unlock the final tower 0/3 (Shadow Spine)

You must kill the Vampiric Blades (west tower), the Harvester of Souls (east tower), Fragment of Vishimtar (bottom floor of central tower), and Emperor Draygun`s Shadow (top floor of central tower) (NOTE: he is called "Fragment of Draygun" in the task's hard version).

Vampiric Blades is spawned by clicking on the orb in the west tower. Nevermind the skeletal librarians as they are not aggro. It hits for a max ~1,300 (normal); flurries (does NOT rampage) and casts these spells:

Shadowed Curse of Mori: Single Target, Magic (-30)
1: Increase Curse Counter by 30
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 639 per tick

Shadowed Dark Hold: Single Target, Magic (-10)
1: Mesmerize(2/70)

Shadowed Word of Chaos: Single Target, Magic (0)
1: Charm up to level 65

You have slain Vampiric Blades!

The Harvester of Souls is spawned by clicking on the orb in the east tower. Again, the skeletons are not aggro. It hits for a max ~1,300 (normal); single-target rampages (does NOT flurry) and casts these spells:

Shadowed Corona Flare: Single Target, Fire (-10)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 3770

Shadowed Meteor Storm: Targeted AE 25', Fire (-300)

After killing the above two mobs, you see:

'But first, let's see how you fare against what remains of Shadowspine's two more powerful victims.'

'They're waiting for you in the final chamber.'

Fragment of Vishimtar hits for a max ~1,700 (normal); single-target rampages; and enrages. It has no AEs, but casts standard Shadow Knight spells.

You have survived Shadowspine and are now ready to face Draygun and his council head on. Gather a strike force and find Jarzarrad's disciple, Brother Dark Water. He was a General under Emperor Draygun before he found his way to Jarzarrad's temple. Speak with him and he will help coordinate your assault.

(This is the lead-in to the Council of Nine Blood Raid.)

yes once again SK's get bupkis.
Both aura's = nothing. 68 mission, we get a undead DD thats 75 points higher dmg than our 68 undead DD = so rather pointless upgrade. 69 mission we get a lifetap , a whole 10 points higher than the one we have = bleh. 70 mission = nothing !! anyone else feels overlooked ?

Fickle shadows is rather nice. If you are fighting undead. Not only is it a dd, but your next lifetap cast after it has a chance to do more.

Touch of Draygun isn't a tap.
It is a dd, and the recourse gives you 500 more hp to your total (wish it was ac).
It also has an agro mod while it is on you.

Aura's, no biggie. I only like the warrior one.

Level 70, ya, I feel overlooked. Especially since people keep asking me to do them. Done hard and normal on all of the 70's multiple times.
But the spells we did get, almost made it worth it.

The PoR ones, even more so. Everyone can get all they want, I'm very happy with the 2 we got.

70 Monk Tanked w/ 13.5k hp, 700aa's, 70 Beast in Anguish gear, 64 druid and Cleric / Sham bot w/ about 8k hp 7k mana on both did this mission easily. Just make sure to set ramp on all 4 nameds and get the Tank healed.

Confirm the mobs repoppin on top of group after wipes-seems to be some magic number of deaths triggers respawns and then you get a "repop" for every death after a certain point.

I have done this mission over 10 times now on hard. Have won the majority of them. But..I have noticed if you wipe out on this mission do not go back. You need to just start over. If not mobs respawn, but they do it weirdly. They start warping to whatever room you are in at mass loads. Everytime I have had a wipe and came back to try to finish this we have died to adds warping thru the walls to get to us. Last night wiped in Vampiric Blades room from adds that warped from East bridge over to West room. Watch out....

As far as repops, we experienced similar event upon wipe. Some of the repops were spawning and warping thru the zone to us. They saw invis, and were unmezzable (but were rootable). They dont summon if you dont damage them.

The only repops that spawned this way were the ones that originally spawn in and populate the Vish/Draygun tower. All the other zone roamers/path mobs we kilt did not repop in crazy warp/agro mode. I assume this is scripted.

They WILL repop on a timer (didnt time it; estimated ~20min), in the order you originally kilt them. We took way longer on killing the last room add originally, and sure enough the final crazy repop was way after all the others.

Frag of Draygun does NOT see invis btw, and theres plenty of room to med at top of ramp in his room once adds cleared and/or re-cleared if wiped.

From what im gathering you cant summon your corpses if you whipe and have re pops. I have attempted this mission several times and twice we wiped on the last part of mission. Summoned corpses and rebuffed for the big fights and entered zone and the mission Reset with only two hours to complete. Has this happened to anyone else?

we were trying to rez in the mission and had strange mobs popping on us. suspecting they pop when you rez several people? then rezzed all in GL and headed back, used IVU get past repops and tried again. mission didnt reset (at least not after 3 hours)

from my experience, some of the (repopped) mobs where not mezzable. the 3 that spawn in the beginning could all be mezzed with the level 70 bard song.

Strategy

First room you will fight 3 Shadow type mobs. They hit for 1100ish and are not mezzable. They move very slow though, so you can kite them with any class that can get aggro without doing damage.

2nd room you will encounter Vampiric Blades, probably the toughest encounter of the mission. Hits for 1500 and flurries, and we could not get it slowed, although I wouldn't say unslowable.

Next is the harvester of souls, not sure what it hits for, but it caught us by surprise and it killed our cleric. We were able to beat it though with just a druid healing.

After that, you have to fight the Fragment of Vishimtar, he is in a room with 4 other mobs. Pull the 4 mobs out of the room one at a time (aggro range is low and the mobs warp), and you can pull them single into the room with the Harvester. Once all the 4 mobs are dead, go in and kill the Fragment of Vishimtar. Fragment of Vishimtar will try to gate on you, so fight him where he spawns.

Lastly is Emperor Draygun's shadow. He is a caster and is quite easy. Highly Magic Resistant though. You fight him at the top of the spire after killing Fragment of Vishimtar.

The shadow mobs are mezzable. With some spell or other. Don't ask me, I'm a tank.

Harvester of Souls has single target rampage and hits for about 1500. High MR. Not seen it slowed yet. Maybe with HoS and Tash and Malos it's possible??

Vampiric Blades, as you say, flurries for 1400. Hurts a lot and am yet to see it tanked without defensive (at Qvic gear level).

Mini Vishi hits for about 2.2k as does the Emperor but the latter casts a lot so is much easier. Usually I go defensive on Vishi and it's still up when we engage Emp.
