This is the second task in a series of five (the end result being your 68th level spell/tome). It begins with Kelliad in the Stoneroot Falls at location +705, -1830 (northeastern part of the zone).

At the end of the previous task:

Kelliad says 'You have delivered the hearts of the drachnids to me _____. My trust for you grows but you still have much to [prove] to me.'

You say, 'What do I have to prove?'

Kelliad says 'You will need to prove that I can trust you of course. Are you [willing to show me] that I can trust you _____?'

You say, 'I am willing to show you'

Kelliad says 'If you want to help me, I need you to enter the city and do some [reconnaissance] for me.'

You say, 'What reconnaissance?'

Kelliad says 'Yes, it's been awhile since I was behind the city gates myself. If there are any survivors I need to know how many so I can make plans on getting them out. Are you [ready] to move forward with this ______?'

You say, 'I am ready'

You have been assigned the task 'Scouting the City'.

You have earned the trust of Kelliad and he wants you to do reconnaissance into the City of Xill. Your first objective is to sneak into the city and look for any clues of Shiliskin survivors. While you are there you should observe how many drachnids there are in the city. Meet up with Meldrek and he will get you deeper into the city.

Seek out Meldrek and speak to him about an alternate entrance to Xill 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Head south along the shoreline where you'll find Meldrek (+210, -1845).

Meldrek says 'I have been keeping an eye on the movements of the drachnids since you left the city. If we cause much more alert we will need to find another entrance into the city. For now this way is still safe. When [you are ready] I'll get you back into the area.'

Your task 'Scouting the City' has been updated.

You say, 'I am ready.'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT ...
You have entered Stoneroot Falls: The City of Xill.

Fight through the gates and explore the courtyard of the city 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Destroy any drachnids that you encounter 0/25 (Stoneroot Falls)

Search for any information on Shiliskin survivors 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

The item you're looking for is "Tome of the Deep Waters" which drops from Warlord Drellak.

After you've killed a number of drachnids, Warlord Drellak spawns on the top level of the tall building. If you have a map, it's the largest circular building in the southern part of the "City of Xill" area.

Drellak is level 73 drachnid, can quad for up to 2,300, flurries, and is partially slowable. At intervals throughout the fight, the room shakes as you see this:

Warlord Drellak loses strength as his health is depleted.

He hits just as hard after these messages, so it's unclear how he's weakened. In addition to the Tome, he also drops a loot reward.

Drellak's drop table includes:

Corroded Soldier's Armguards
Drachnid Champion's Chestplate
Loose Weave Gloves
Tattered Shiliskin Slippers
Xillian Mail Wristguard

Possible trash drops include:

Copper Glow-in-the-Dark Compass Ring

Return to Kelliad with the tome at once 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

You may exit the zone by returning to Meldrek.

You say, 'Hail, Meldrek'

Meldrek says 'This is as far as I go. When you complete your objective for Kelliad return to me and when you're [ready to go] I will make sure you have a safe return back to Kelliad.'

You say, 'I am ready to go.'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Stoneroot Falls.

Upon handing in the tome to Kelliad:

Your task 'Scouting the City' has been updated.

You have searched the city for survivors and have recovered information for Kelliad. Speak with Kelliad for further instructions.

Caster Reward:
Loose Weave Neckguard

Melee Reward:
Necklace of the Xillian Scout

Completion of this task leads into the next task in the series, "Building the Disguise".

Update Loc
# Jan 31 2009 at 10:13 AM Rating: Decent
The update location for "Fight through the gates and explore the courtyard of the city" is -850, -450, -38 or thereabouts. Its through the gates and forward until just about the point where a pair of drachs spawn over a shill body. There is also a piece of wooden junk right there you can see from the gates.

70 SK about 10k buffed, ~2100 AC.
70 BRD (me), 8.5k buffed.
70 SHM
70 MAG
69 CLR
69 PAL. all of us mostly bazaar/cultural/dodh/don geared.

i pulled the SI mobs from the Warden's tower to the little cubby spot, then we invised up to the top. first try, we wiped, as the shaman missed his slow and the mage and shaman Malo did not land. then we ran back and tried again:
SK opened with snare and then harm touch to establish aggro. the cleric and the pally opened with constant fast heals. i sang harmony of sound with my drum, while the mage and shammy maloed him. then i slowed, which miraculously landed, and then the shammy's slow landed. at that point the warden was at 95%. the mage, the pally and myself began DPSing the warden. at 75% the cleric says OOM, but the shaman picks up the heals. i burned my 3 DPS AA discs, the mage nuked, the pally whacked, the cleric frantically tried to regain mana and the fight got progressively easier as the warden fell by each 20%. took about 3 minutes.

so for those of you wondering how a non-uber group can pull this off, bring a solid tank, dps, a backup healer, and the malo-tash-harmony combination in order to land slow. once slow has landed you're on easy street.

tripple boxed this on one pc with 77 necro, 77 war pet as tank with some mage gear, 76 cleric, 76 shaman.

pet had approx 20k hp with all the buffs. heals went fine. patch healed till necro got it down to 90%. chained ch and promised renewal till 80%. slacked off after that. very easy fight, for me at least. fight lasted maybee 5 minutes. only minor problem was me forgeting to do tugurs after balance of discord. slow wore off about 75%, but dps off named was low enough that that was no issue. does have a chunk of hp, guessing more than 100k.

Info
# Oct 03 2006 at 5:42 AM Rating: Default
Ok, we put a guild group together and went and did this last night. 73 war, 69 cleric, 64 shaman, 64 ranger, 66 cleric (had two cause we heard he hit hard) and me a 69 sk. Ok so we inivis'ed and ran up to little valley on the far left outside the city gates. There we pulled and killed 25 spiders. Once the 25 spiders were dead the named spawned in, if you have a tracker and he isnt on track from jump then that is prolly why. Once we had done this we all invised up and ran into the city gates and made a hard left. Once we got back to corner we made camp again. Now there are only 2 mobs that matter at this point, 1) is in a building by himself and is very easy to pull, 2) The see invis mob in the room where the named is (where the Champion spawns in the non-instance zone version). So pull the spider in the room by its self 1st. Once you have killed him run up to the room where the named is and wait for him to path outside the room then pull him. Becareful tho not to get adds cause there are plenty of them around. If you pull the see invis mob down beside the room it spawns in you should have no problems. Now once you have killed the see invis mob invis up one last time and head into the room where the named is. At the top you will see the named and one other. You can kill the other where he stands and not agro the named as long as you watch push. Once you have killed the add up top rest up and get ready for the named. Tank ran up hit defensive and get 1st agro. Shaman said that his highest level slow landed after Malo, had lower level cleric fast heal while higher level cleric ch'ed and HoT'ed. I pulled up all my Dots and nukes for added DPS. Warrior said that he hit for 1k and sometimes quaded. Was about a 5 minute fight. Tank said that he did notice a BIG change in the named hits after the 2nd time the mob weakened. This mob DOES enrage at 10% so make sure you're tank knows that. Also I hade him snared with Festering darkness but he didnt try to run so I wouldn't worry if you cant get it to land. All in all not too tough of a fight onec we figured out a way to get to him. Hope this info helps. =)

Just finished one.. all the mobs were there.. in force.. and every last one of the, including the witherins, could see invis. Had to dance along the walls to get to the city, and pulls were touchy as could be. Roamers stayed tighter than before, too. Was lots of fun, good challenge.

Named losing power
# Aug 12 2006 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
Just did 68.2 on Stromm, acting as MH. I definitely noticed a BIG difference in the Warlord as he lost power. At almost exactly 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 10% health there was a noticeable drop in damage and speed. Warlord’s melees went from 600+ (flurry over 1500) down to about 150ish at 10%.

More telling to me as a healer was this: at 80-100% mob health, I was chain casting quick heals to keep my tank alive. By 20% health I had joined in the melee, virtually no heals needed.

Group was 69 cle, 70 bst, 70 pally, 70 nec, 68 SK, 70 ECH

Did this today
# Jun 03 2006 at 9:17 PM Rating: Decent
So, just got back to playing really and started doing these, did #1 in about 50minutes with 4 people, then went on to #2 today. With the way everyone talked, I thought I was gonna lose this one, but it turned out darn easy.

Group

15K+ Paladin 2600+ AC, Loads of Shielding etc
70 cleric Alt
70 lowbie ranger(crap gear)
66 alt warrior(who sat there and never did anything)
66 alt mage (ds and nuked a little)
69 Enchanter

Thank you for the write up above.

We knew the zone from doing #1, so

We zoned in, SOE/Invised.
Ran over the water to the town
Ran over the wall to the left
I pulled 2/3 at a time here and killed them easily, cleric(who is a bot) did nothing but ch's thats it.
I tanked them all, max hit was for like 900 ever.
Enchanter would slow if 2+ came, we did get 4 once that was FUN lol.
We still weren't 100% where the named was.
If you are in the dead corner right on your left is a building, if you face that building to your right is a little tower, with 2 spiders at the bottom and 1 at the top, if you stand between these two buildings and look straight you are looking at the building where the named is.

I cleared everything to the named, which is sitting on the second level of the building I spoke about, it has a HUGE open floor at the bottom and a spiral "flat" staircase up.

After everything was cleared, ran everyone up, to the platform where the named sits. There was one more mob there, stunned it, ran everyone up, it came to me killed it and then got ready.

Again, cleric is a bot, warrior is twiddling his tale, the enchanter was a bot to the ranger.

Since I was actually thinking this thing might kill me here is what we did.

1. Ranger has Syvan Light memmed lol, I had all buffs(minus shaman) 15k/2600ac/DI/DS etc.
2. I pulled but i told the ranger to tash the second i started to cast stun to pull. I then told him to immediately step inside the mob to try to slow, since its 73 and his bot was 69.
3. I pulled, mob came, I had a ch inc already, chanter tashed/ran up slowed(at this point ranger is doing nothing, warrior duh, mage nothing).
4. Slowed on first try(while standing inside him)
5. I tanked him, ranger TS'd, my bot cleric ch'd(and not even chain) 1 time I was typing and forgot to ch until I was at 9K.
6. He flurred bla bla, but our DPS with just me and the ranger and finally the mage was too much, he got weaker fast, the chanter/mage pet helping too. I got to 2500hp once since i started CH late.

Otherwise it was such an easy fight its not funny, we got the ranger... bracer, stinky rangers :-P

Anyway, it was easy at 15k+ with shielding/avoidance/mitigation extremely high and a good cleric bot and no other healers. Heck we even forgot to use our little Veteran AA pets..

Anyhoo, have fun, I cannot say how easy it would be or wouldn't be for someone in lower gear, but tbh I am shocked that a warrior with 12K and def would die.
