Cartographer Slipgear may be found at -285, +200.

You say, 'Hail, Cartographer Slipgear'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Bzzt! Well hello there! It's always nice to see a new face! I get so tired of all the same faces and places, don't you? Unfortunately my left leg is jammed and all I can do right now is walk in little circles! Bzzt! This has made it pretty hard for me to finish up the maps I have started of the surrounding areas. Would you like to [help]?'

You say, 'I would like to help.'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Great! What I need is really pretty simple. I've managed to overhear some of the new arrivals talking about some of the surrounding areas and they sure do sound really exciting! Bzzt! Since I can't go there myself right now I was hoping you could visit each one and then come back and describe them to me so I can add them to my maps. Do you [accept the mission]?'

You say, 'I accept the mission.'

You are presented with a task window with several options. Select "Beware the Hive."

You have been assigned the task 'Beware the Hive'.

Cartographer Slipgear has asked you to visit some of the locations he has been hearing so much about lately. Visit each location and return to him with notes on what you have found and he has promised to reward you for your efforts.

Recluse Canyon

An isolated canyon delves into the rock along the Hive. Drachnid warlocks gather there to hone their dark talents in seclusion.

The East Obelisk

Although drachnid are most at home in their naturally-grown chitin tunnels, they also erected two obelisks in an open canyon region within the Hive. These obelisks serve as audience chambers for non-drachnid guests, as well as the training grounds of the feared drachnid skinwalkers, spies who disguise themselves with magically enchanted skins of other races.

Warren of the Conscripts

As the Drachnids began their war against the shiliskin, Sendaii the Hive Queen soon learned that Deep Orc slaves made valuable allies once their shiliskin masters were out of the way. This chamber marks the home of the Deep Orcs that have chosen to join the drachnid ranks rather than die alongside their former shiliskin masters.

Queen Sendaii's Shrine

The drachnids erected this shrine of living chitin to pay homage to Sendaii, their leader and mistress.

The Reanimation Chamber

The shiliskin are known to reanimate the drained bodies of their victims for use as guards and servants. This chamber marks the area where the unspeakable reanimation rituals are performed.

The Living Bridges

Here, nutrient-rich fluid flows between the main drachnid colony and the dandling outer cocoons. Thick porous bridges of chitin span the cliffs, tunneling the rivers of fluid toward the Queen.

Reward(s):
100 platinum,
You gain experience!!

The locations are approximately as follows:

Recluse Canyon: -1260, +500.
The East Obelisk: -420, +480.
Warren of the Conscripts: -250, +1360.
Queen Sendaii's Shrine: -50, +1290.
The Reanimation Chamber: -670, +663, +28 its the upper left wall at the entrance to the chamber.
The Living Bridges: +175, +650.

When you have scouted them all:

Corathus Creep: Return to Cartographer Slipgear

You say, 'Hail, Cartographer Slipgear'

Your task 'Beware the Hive' has been updated.

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Wow this is fantastic! You captured a lot of details here! This will really help me flesh out my maps. Here is a little something for your troubles, friend, and I think you will find that the item I gave you before has grown slightly in power during your travels! A truly marvelous item! Bzzt!'

Your faction standing with Expedition 328 got better.
Your faction standing with Creep Reapers got worse.
You receive 100 platinum .
You gain experience!!

For any rogues who are looking at doing this quest, I noticed there's not really any posts below for if mobs see through SoS. I went through with my rogue and nothing saw through SoS. I did get the "Your Shroud of Stealth keeps you hidden from watchful eyes" message quite a bit.

However, this let me map out the area so that I could take a shadowknight and mage through while knowing where everthing was that could see invis. Most of the stuff that I found where something was blocking the way with see invis, there's another way to get there where it's not. However, that's probably just luck of the spawn.

Once you know your way around The Hive, getting the quest updates are actually pretty easy. I'd recommend not shrouding into a rogue (since you end up with very crappy hitpoints) and just having your escape plan ready. For most of the hive you can run out the door and Zone pretty easy.
see invis..

I'm not sure if this is just server-specific (Xegony) but there is now a non-roaming mystic right at the entrance to the east obelisk who can see through hide/sneak.

I can confirm these are the correct coordinates not the ones listed in the task write up. The ones in the write up are for the entrance to the chamber but not for the task update itself.

OK, found it. To get the Re-animation Chamber, you have to actually go down in the first tower into the big room with all the undead in it. Loc is -596, 679, -23. Had no probs down there. No see thru invis on this trip, but you know how it is. Con everything as you go!
Queen last

Just finished this one tonight. Through the entire thing I had one death, and it was in the Hive. I was very careful the entire time, and conned everything I saw. At the bottom of the West tower, however, there was a summoner at the bottom that saw invis. I was able to slide through the crack as the ramp went down, and since it was towards the bottom of the ramp I could get buy. I got the queen loc done, and then decided to try to get back to the outside so I could get the living bridges. I went back to the room with the summoner, and he conned indifferent! So I crept by. Nope. He saw me somehow and I was soon dead. So, I guess they only scowl if they see you head on thanks to sneak. Whatever the reason, I would do living bridges first (Qylu's method on this page worked like a charm, and I could get back to ZL afterwards), and save the Queen's place for last. Then Gate out, or whatever.

Just as a helpful hint, Dieing while in shroud form when doing this part of the 5 quests since this is the hardest part you will die a few times. DO not forget that just because you die in a shroud form you WILL lose xp from your main character. I wasnt informed of this when i kept killing myself tryin to get to the specific areas. I found out the hard way when i removed the shroud and deleveld instantly. Blew my mind as i have done it before and nothing has happened. I just want you all to know that suiciding wont help you at all unless you know exactly what you are doing.

I think out of 6th deaths i got 4 rezzes which replaced my lvl but still sucked as i ate a few of them. Hope this helps any of you that didnt know know that like myself.

If you shroud to the level 5 goblin you can die without losing experience from your real character. Level 5 is below the exp penalty level.

The tradeoff is that you can't swim very fast, and you won't get Run 5 from aa's, and if you get hit, or hell, if you sneeze too hard, you're dead.

The hive seems to have been nerfed. I did it a couple weeks ago on my 40 rogue and waltzed right through it. Went back 3 or 4 days later with my 70 Wiz in rogue form and have been unable to get to queen area. The way I went was through the first tower over the living bridge and into the next to get thete now there are several see invis in the way. I tried the westertn tower but it has see invis at the stairs. Even stranger went in on my ranger tonite there was a see invis in the field near warren of the conscripts spot and it also will not give credit for that one it appears you have to go inside the caves somewhere to get that now.
Finished

Did this one last night, and while it was challenging, it wasn't impossible. Shrouded as a 70 Goblin Rouge, I was able to sneak/hide everywere I went. Just make sure you take your time, con everything before your right in front of it. It seems to me that the traps are the webs across the tunnels. Make sure there are no mobs around before you get to the trap and you will be able to re-hide. Yes, I died a few times, but it was worth it.
See Invis Mob
# Oct 23 2005 at 11:24 PM Rating: Decent
Just a heads up. Did this task today and discovered somethin nasty. I always go into the westward tower, that proving to be the easiest because of how the single web trap is set and being able to see enough tunnel to tell when the roaming mob is far enough away to give you time to reinvis when the trap goes off. Well, at the entrance of that tunnel, a non-roaming guard that can see thru invis is camped right in the way. You can go in a back way thru the eastern tower but it's harder with 2 traps to negotiate and, from that way, you can't tell when the roamer has gone far enough down the tunnel to give you enough time to re-invis. Died the first time I tried the back way, but got lucky the second time and pulled it off. And did it with a level 25 rogue shroud no less. I gotta admit, I was grinnin like the village idiot after pulling it off.

One other thing of note. I've done this quest 4 time now, and see invis mobs have been in different places each time. Con everything before you get close. Dont rely on previous posts saying a certain area is clear. You could very easily run into a nasty surprise.

Easy way for the Queen Sendaii location

Queen Sendaii's Shrine: -50, +1290

Did this one easy peasey on Sunday, no shroud, no fancy turning my skirt wearing gnomish necro fanny into a rogue. Paired with a druid with her finger poised on the evac key, here is how we did it.

You run into the temple in the western end of the main part of the zone. No see invis in the way from the zone in to there.

Go down the ramps 2 or 3 levels, until you can go North West into a tunnel which takes you into a room full of orcs. As the tunnel opens out into a big room stop and con. There is a campfire on either side of the entrance, the orcs standing around these camp fires are not see invis. Further on into the room it's loaded with see invis.

If you look to your right, you will see an upper level, with a tunnel entrance going deeper northwest. This is what you want, but the ramp to this area is by the see invis mobs. Dont go to the other side of the room to get to the ramp.

By the righthand campfire, just below the doorway to the tunnel you want, is a very narrow, flying buttress looking sort of stalactite. You can use this as a ramp to the ledge, just steer carefully and run up it. Being a gnome, I had no trouble. THe half-elf druid I was with didnt either. If large races have trouble with small spaces, just shrink at the zone in before running.

Run up the winding tunnel, conning all along the way, and you should get this stage completed about halfway along it. We then evaced out no problem.

There are 3 spiders in front of the doorway in the west tower basement and above the campfire that leads to tunnels. One to the left of the tunnel door, one to the right of the tunnel door, and one a little further down the ramp that leads up to the door.

The one to the right of the door saw through lvl 70 rogue shroud today but I was able to creep up to the ramp and just high tail it right by hugging left as much as I could. Done with this step.

Did this part today, and the directions were great. I used a 60 goblin rogue and died once due to being seen. That was strange because I sat there for a while waiting for another spider to pass before the soldier decided to kill me. I did go down three levels to get to the big room, and in my lack of sleep, I did use the ramp that to the tunnel, instead of the way mentioned. The ramp worked fine for me. I have to say that it is a bad idea to depend on evac because in my experiences with death in this quest, death was instant. The mobs hit fast for between 400 and 1200. The second I was seen, my screen would go straight to zoning to my bind point. I had to scroll up to see what happened.

It looka like Sony educated the Orcs around the camp fires. One at each fire can now see invs, so you can't get past them anymore.

Not when I went just today about 5 mins ago on Dec. 30, 2005 heh.

I went thru them all with a breeze on a Gobby Rogue doin Hide/Sneak with no buffs.

Edit: I'm part wrong. I conned everything, everything is indiff at the Orc Camp. Then as I go up to the Drachnids on the cliff, all the sudden orcs see invis and I die. Have died there 3 times now... >.<

I just did the Queen with this method and had no see invisses as it was laid out. Then I went back up one level and into Reanimation Chamber and got that too with no traps and no see invisses, so my guess is that they are pathers.

Did this whole quest except final turn in in Level 70 Gobby Shroud and my only two deaths (other than one trying to gate in front of a mob LOL) were trying to get into basement of east temple at same spot on basement stairs to see invis summoner.

I decided to just not bother with this one. I did the other ones. I died twice in Stoneroot (once to a indifferent orc, not sure what happened, other time because I just had to open the coral :p) Anyways Its still a HUGE upgrade to my 4hp/mana/endurance adventure stone.

Also started this quest with my 30 necro. I finished the CC and undershore part. Looks like the Stone has the same stats at lvl 30 as higher levels if anybody was wondering.

Where is the bridge?
# Oct 11 2005 at 10:34 AM Rating: Decent
Zone in from Stoneroot and climb the wall to your left to the very top. It will be slow moving a couple of minutes but you'll get there. Once on top of the summit look directly west you will see the living bridge behind the structures. Use invis/lev/fast feetsie, pg up a tad, go for it. Takes less than 30 seconds to make the run.

Hpoe this helps

This worked for me without death. On one try I ended up getting stuck in the side of the tower when I tried to get the bridge. I had to exit out of the game because I could not stand, cast, or camp. On another try, I was afraid I would get see by a roamer so I backed up from where I was and ended up zoning out of the hive which was a pain because I ended up on the other end of stoneroot and had to run back, so watch out for that one.

Just tried this, you can get up the wall directly above the zone in from the right hand side. Made the "flight" easily, and nothing saw thru regular invis! Thanks for this Qylu, was about to give up on this one...

You can also climb up on top of the building (easier when shrunk) and lev across and around the cliff to the bridges.

Was looking for the living bridge n keep getting zoned back to Stoneroot when i get close to that location any help?
RE: where is the living bridge?
# Oct 09 2005 at 5:47 AM Rating: Decent
You have to enter one of the two structures you see in that huge open area when you zone in from SF. I always pick the westward one. Go in, and go down a couple of floors and make your way further into the tunnels. Getting to this place is where you come across the web trap that everyone talks about.
Damn hard
# Oct 04 2005 at 1:11 AM Rating: Decent
Well, this task cost me four deaths. By far the hardest of the entire quest. Used a level 50 goblin shroud on my 52 necro. You have to con everything to pick out the mobs that will see thru hide/sneak. Be very careful of the spider webs that are draped across the tunnels. They have a pretty good reach. I died from a web trap even though I was a good distance away from it. I was able to slip past one though without setting it off by walking up the side of the wall. One other thing of note. In Stoneroot Falls, there are 2 places that you can zone into the Hive from. Use the zone point that is furthest south in SF. You'll have to go up a ramp that's like a circling stairwell to get to it, but it's by far the easiest place to get to the majority of the task locations.

How do I get to these?
# Sep 29 2005 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
I have been able to find all other points but these. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Warren of the Conscripts: -250, +1360.
Queen Sendaii's Shrine: -50, +1290.
RE: How do I get to these?
# Sep 30 2005 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
Warren of the conscripts is behind the temple in the far NW of the zone at ground level. There is a dip in the landscape that opens into a small room.

Queen Sendaii's Shrine is in the tunnel that leads from the above temple and is accessed by a stairway in the temple then through a room with several red con Orc's. I used the 65 Rogue shroud with no deaths - you just need patience and a lot of luck!

Do the traps depop invis or just hide?
problem with this one
# Sep 27 2005 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
ok you shrowd as a rogue level 70 throw all your points into runspeed get some one to soe you hide then sneak and run around to the locations. sounds great but this one is the hardest of all the exploring ones because there is some type of traps in the zone inside that kills the hide, detect trap does not see them. i conned everything as indifferent move in and bang argo and dead. not sure if they are moving traps or what but this is the only one that is giving me problems finishing. prob just gonna run down with a group and kill my way through after 12 attemps at this as rogue hiding and sneaking. fd class might have more luck but the mobs hit mpg range and are stacked pretty close as in 5 to 10 in a room. good luck all.
RE: problem with this one
# Sep 27 2005 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
The traps are the webs you can see strung across some entrances. Just wait until no mobs are around before you go through one, and re-hide/sneak if it catches you.
About that Goblin rogue trick...

When you hear someone say "Just shroud up as a rogue and Sneak/Hide your way through. It's easy as pie, I did it in less than an hour," keep in mind that these people are talking about a lvl 60 Rogue, not the pitiful lvl 5 one you can get until you've killed a couple zillion mobs in shroud form.

Getting to the Hive as a lvl 5 Goblin is not only tedious and boring (Sneak is sloooooooooow), but also incredibly dangerous; Piranhas in Nektulos present a major challenge, and the... 'things'... in the water in the Undershore tend to aggro from across the zone, and climb up on dry land to hit you as you frantically try to get your Hide/Sneak (30) to work. They 'only' hit for about 250, btw, but you see, as a lvl 5 Goblin, that is easily enough to send you back to PoK. No frequent flyer miles bonus though, which is kind of a bummer.

The way to do this (part of the augment) quest is to get a group together comprising two porters, clerics, chanters and necromancers. Other classes need not apply. Invis and Invis to Undead are absolutely essential - go slow, and Pacify every single mob, mez and port out at the first sign of trouble and you'll get it eventually.

Good luck :-)

It defaults to a level 5 shroud but you can pick higher (up to your current level) without killing anything.

Well I am a Lvl 70 sk so I picked a lvl 70 goblin rouge. It didn't help much as sometime while sneaking around I get dectected and got killed and other time while I am invised some of the mobs can see invised and I get killed again.
