This is the first task in a series of five (the end result being your 68th level spell/tome). It begins with Kelliad in the Stoneroot Falls at location +705, -1830 (northeastern part of the zone).

You say, 'Hail, Kelliad'

Kelliad looks around confused before saying, 'Ilsuras? Is that you?"

Kellaid looks closer at you and says, 'You're not Ilsuras. I thought you might have been him. He was one of our trusty scounts and he has been [gone] awhile now and the longer that he is missing the more worried I get.'

You say, 'Gone?'

Kelliad says, 'I'm not sure that I aan [trust you]. Perhaps in tiem I might be able to trust one such as yourself but you have done nothing to allow me to trust you.'

You say, 'You can trust me'

Kelliad says 'I want you to prove that you are what you appear to be. Outside the city of Xill you will find a great scout that goes by the name of Meldrek. Speak with him and he will show you a way into Xill. When you enter Xill, the wall will be protected by guards. Kill them and bring me back 4 of their hearts. Are you willing to [do this job] for me?'

You say, 'I am willing to do this job'

You have been assigned the task 'A Rogue's Trust'.

You have come across a strange being in Kelliad. He does not trust many of his own kind, let alone strangers. You must complete this task to gain his trust.

Seek out Meldrek and ask him about an alternate entrance into Xill 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Go south along the shore to +210, -1845.

You say, 'Hail, Meldrek'

Meldrek says 'Duck down _____, before you are seen. This area is crawling with drachnids. What can I help you with?'

You say, 'Where is the alternate entrance to Xill?'

Meldrek pauses for a second then turns and says, 'How can I put this, Kelliad has lost touch of reality. I will help you enter Xill but I can't be responsible for you after you enter. Do you [wish to continue] with this adventure?'

You say, 'We wish to continue.'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Stoneroot Falls: The City of Xill.

You enter an instanced version of Stoneroot Falls. You appear before Meldrek, who will send you out of the zone if you ask him.

Explore the front gates of Xill 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

If you have a map, it's pretty obvious where this is: To the south and west (as you would head to The Hive).

Lay waste to twenty-five drachnids 0/25 (Stoneroot Falls)

Simple enough: Kill any 25 drachnids in the zone. They come in several classes (including shaman) and are charmable. Some have an AE called Dark Venom Spray, can proc Puncture and Vile Web, and can hit for up to ~1,200 (average of 600). They are "mostly" slowable.

Tear out four drachnid hearts for proof of their deaths 0/4 (Stoneroot Falls)

You'll come across plenty of these. Keep four of them to update the last step in the task.

Return to Kelliad with the drachnid hearts 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

You say, 'Hail, Meldrek'

Meldrek says 'This is as far as I go. When you complete your objective for Kelliad return to me and when you're [ready to go] I will make sure you have a safe return back to Kelliad.'

You say, 'We are ready to go.'

Hand in the four hearts to Kalliad to finish the task. Priest and caster archetypes receive a Pain-Infused Mask. Melee and hybrid archetypes receive a Warped Mask.

You have completed the task for Kelliad. Speak with him to explore the city of Xill further.

Near the gates of Xill at -785, -700 is "a dark mystical chest". This can be opened after you've killed the 25 drachnids and contains one loot item.

Completion of this task leads into the next task in the series, "Scouting the City".

Some of the posters below seemed a little unclear so let me offer some insight after performing the mission for the first time with a pair of level 72 casters and their mercs.

The Drachs that are in the instanced zone DO respawn, about 20 minutes. They are slightly tougher than the normal drachs in the non-instanced version. Some see invis. They are in the usual places outside the city, but some of them are missing. I'd estimate about about 15 of them are in the zone altogether. I only peeked my head into the city though, and it appears empty, but there might be some deeper in inside the buildings... I doubt it though.

I was expecting something knew. i floated over the described wall looking for a different scene, not thinking that was the wall. The location is -840, -760, 30 for other challenged people like myself.g there were several see invis mobs around including at that very spot.

You have to give the 4 hearts to Kalliad the quest giver. NOT to Meldrek.

I have a 64 warrior. Got her grouped with a 74 and a 73 so that average is a bit over 70. I tried to get mission with the warrior but Kelliad did not give it.

Is there a minimum level to get the missions? Or is it faction (Kelliad was dub)? Or do I need a full group?

Any info is appretiated, thanks

no if you didn't do them in order. If you done them in order, you can talk to the NPC and he will only give you the tasks you done +1 aka if you done the 1st 2, you will see 3 in the list. If you done them all, you will get another text from the NPC

Done part of this quest 2 times, but today I am getting thsi message when talking to Meldrek "A strange magical presence prevents you from entering . Its too dangerous to enter at the moment". WTF is that supposed to mean? I had 5 hearts, but only killed 12 of them, thought maybe I could not have the hearts and destroyed them but still receive the message. Any Ideas.

Thanks

it may mean the instance is not yet created...I get that a lot when I try to enter an instanced zone too quickly or wait too long and the instance de-pops. Try waiting a minute or two then trying again so the instance can load again.
The mission can be confusing so this may help
# Jun 06 2006 at 2:44 PM Rating: Decent
1) Hail Kelliad in the real Stoneroot zone to get the mission "A Rogue's Trust".
2) Hail Meldrek in the real Stoneroot zone, to get transported to the Instanced Stoneroot zone
3) Explore the passage to Xill in the Instanced Stoneroot zone. It is at ground level near the Hive entrance, a long hillside-to-hillside wall that you can't miss. The passage is the one tunnel in that wall. The guards did not see invisible when I did this mission. Step inside this passage and the mission is updated
4) kill 25 drachnids and loot 4 hearts (stackable) in the Instanced Stoneroot zone
5) Hail Meldrek to get transported back to the real Stoneroot zone
6) Return to Kelliad in the real Stoneroot zone and give him the 4 hearts unstacked. You'll get the mission reward
*FINDING AND LOOTING THE CHEST*
7) Return to Meldrek in the real Stoneroot zone to get transported back to the Instanced Stoneroot zone. I think you say "I am ready"
8) The treasure chest is at the passage to Xill in the Instanced Stoneroot zone, that you explored back in step 3. The chest is not inside the tunnel, but rather on the right side of the entrance behind the spider guard. It is small and easy to miss. You don't have to kill the guard to /open or loot the chest. Just put as much distance between you and the guard as possible and there should be no problem.

I hope this helps clear some of the confusion about the mission.

The chest spawns prior to turning in the hearts, so you don't have to leave and return. I'm guessing it pops after you kill the 25 mobs.

The chest is spawn at the beining of the mission you just cant use /open to you explore the gates, kill 25 mobs, and loot 4 hearts.

HP: +150 Mana: +145 Endurance: +145

Found the melee do not want to give up their OoW boots because they loose AC and Attack if they went with these. Cleric looted instead.

With your first hand experience did Panther proc on the chest and damage the chest appropriately?

Why not just do /open ? You really don't need to beat on the chests to get inside.

/open tells you it is locked, if no lock picker in group I guess you need to melee. Will try the LDON chest spells next time I do that mission though to see if they work.

Spells of any type will not work on the chest. This includes Panther. Straight up melee damage.
kite camp for this
# Dec 20 2005 at 4:58 AM Rating: Decent
Myself, a lvl 70 necro, a lvl 70 ranger, and lvl 68 cleric (box) went ahead and did this. we found the best camp for us was near hive zone line. if you run to the hive zone tunnel, and then while standing on the ledge righ out side of it, look down and east you will see down on the floor, 2 camps of 2 spiders there, a little farther east is a little path between zone wall and large stone pinnacle. we harmony pulled, then root rotted them in this little defile.for us non plate wearers they were hitting for 800-1200, (average 950-1000) so try not to get to close. and like a previous post said, fast repops, like 10-15 mins. so we spent the whole time just clearing those 2 camps of 2. pathers wander by the outer camp but none into the defile. had no casters or named pop there.

Don't think you can. Tried tonight. Wanted to go in an kill a couple mobs to get to chest over and over to get the aug and my Shammy the chest item that drops. No luck. I tried to enter the phrases above, no luck. Kept getting presented with Part 2, which I have not done.

Will have to get a mule or someone that has not completed the mission to get the mission. Unfortunately, my Shammy and I have completed the mission. :(
RE: Redo the mission?

You can redo the missions but only if you've completed the entire 68th spell mission arc. If you hail the mission giver after you've gotten you're 68 spell/discipline he will present you with the entire list, 68.1 through 68.5, to choose from.

I redo the mission without having completed the arc yet... have to use the same text to initiate 68.1.. he just wont prompt for it
