You must have 3 or more people in your group and say "I have a group" to V`Lynn. After you accept the task, each member needs to say "teleported in" and you will be teleported into an instance of Befallen (no special name). The mobs in the zone are the same as in the regular Befallen.

Befallen: Speak with Frilbik Stemweather

Need task stage description.

Frilbik is located behind the second door on the right, at -365, 66, 10.

You say, 'Hail, Frilbik Stemweather'

Frilbik Stemweather says 'Please, I am in dire need of your aid. My loving daughter Jessra disappeared and I have been unable to locate her. I fear that she may have fallen into this eerie old well. I tried to will my body down into the treacherous looking pit, but my mind forbids it. I began to hear voices, whispers, chanting to me over and over. They spoke of a brave group of travelers -- one such group that doesn't know entirely why they are here. The voice cried out to me to seek the aid of a brave traveler by the name of ______. Tell me, would you happen to go by ______?'

Your task 'Plight of the Undead' has been updated.

Befallen: Search for Jessra

Need task stage description.

Your whole party will need to jump down the well, at which point you'll be aggroed by about three mobs, so have the tank jump first. As soon as you land, Rethkan spawns in front of you and...

Frilbik Stemweather says 'Foolish mortals, your feeble minds are easily fooled. You need only know me as Rethkan, Lord of Befallen. I have been capturing souls like that of yours and your weakling comrades over the ages, each one replenishing my once diminished strength and power. As soon as I suspend the souls of you, frail mortals, I will be able to reign once again over the land of Norrath.'

He then despawns and leaves you to deal with the mobs you're fighting.

Your task 'Plight of the Undead' has been updated.

Befallen: Face Hrek the Defiler

Need task stage description.

Hrek the Defiler is found through a locked door at the bottom of the well that leads back to the top (/loc?). You need to find the key. It drops from "a shadowknight" (which model? which key? /loc?), found in the far southeast corner of the basement you're in. The door is near the hidden wall you have to walk through to get there. Once you get through the locked door, there will be a flight of stairs with Hrek the Defiler at the top.

Hrek the Defiler says 'Foolish mortals, I will lay you to rest.'

When you engage, four more mobs (lesser mummies, a bat, and a mummified defiler) will come through the door and charge you. Hrek has about 3k hps, hits for around 30, and is around level 23. Once he's dead:

Hrek the Defiler's corpse says 'Rethkan, I have failed you.'

Your task 'Plight of the Undead' has been updated.

Befallen: Defeat Ghil the Warlord

Need task stage description.

You don't have to go far here, just through the door behind Hrek into another hallway, around one quick corner, then you can see 2 x "Defender of Ghil." They will aggro almost as soon as you are in sight, at which point you'll see a zonewide emote:

Ghil the Warlord says 'Infidels! I will tear you apart limb from limb and feed your flesh to my army of undead.'

Ghil the Warlord charges you as well, possibly bringing adds. He's level 24, has about 3k hps, and hits for up to 33. Once he's dead:

Ghil the Warlord's corpse says 'Rethkan, I have failed you.'

Befallen: Destroy Rethkan, Lord of Morality [sic]

Need task stage description.

Really, you're supposed to destroy Rethkan, Lord of Mortality. Keep heading up towards the entrance to Befallen and in the next room atop the stony staircase you will find him at -299.55, -222.95, -9.62. He conned red to everyone in the group (so at least level 25), but the bard (level 22) could mez him. When pulled, he may bring adds.

Rethkan, Lord of Mortality says 'We meet at last, foolish peasants. How does it feel to contribute to Norrath's final breath of existence?'

Rethkan has a few more hps than the previous two named, possibly 3.5k hps, and hits for up to 52. Once he's dead:

Rethkan, Lord of Mortality's corpse says 'This.. This can't be happening. You haven't seen the last of me, mortals. I will have my revenge.'

A mummified defender spawns in the room where Rethkan was.

a mummified defender says 'I salute you, ______, slayer of the powerful Lord Rethkan. If you are [ready to exit], passage back into your existance [sic] may be granted.'

At this point a "Note About Your Ninth Trial" appears in your inventory and you are immediately assigned a "Journey to XXXX" task, where "XXXX" is your home city. Note that this turn-in is currently bugged for at least some class/race combinations, giving you a cloth cap in return for your troubles, plus about 17% experience at level 21.

He's at neg 299.55, neg 222.95, neg 9.62, in the farthest room to the southeast on the top floor of befallen, where the ramp / stairs go down to the next level. Fight consisted of 2 mummified defenders, and the previously mentioned lurid bat. Did him today with a lvl 28 Vah Shir 'zerker and merc healer ( blue con ). Piece o' cake. Smiley: wink

( One note: after killing Rethkan, the mummy that spawned did * not * give me any dialogue, respond to hails, or speak to me at all, however when I entered /say ready to exit I was ported back to PoK as the walkthrough states. )

Just did this quest today...found a shadowknight (dark elf/female model) in SE part of basement; needed to clear skeleton placeholder before it popped. SK dropped three different keys (splintered wooden, charred bone, and smoked glass). Hrek the Defiler (darkbone skelly model, -531, -164) popped at the top of stairwell as described above, conned dark blue to my 23 necro; used distillate of skinspikes/steady lifetap procs to take him out while his adds killed themselves on my damage shield.

The Reward listed here is wrong. Though you DO get the "Note About Your Ninth Trial" Ultimately you get A piece of Newbie Armor. Unfortunately, as of this writing, I don't know what you would get.

I've yet to find anyone willing to do this quest with me to verify the Reward.

A few notes from my own experience, as the write-up I submitted a few months ago never made it in for some reason.

- You do not need 3 people to do the instance. Just take the task when it becomes available and say "teleported in" (same goes with all "group" newbie tasks). I have done this task twice, the first time was a Warrior / Cleric duo and the second time was as a solo Rogue (the Rogue was level 31, so don't let it fool you as to difficulty of this task. The task is fairly tough).

- For clarification, Frilbik is at the top of the well on the first floor.

- The key to open the door to Hrek the Defiler(point C on eqatlas map) can drop off either of the third floor shadowknights (points 3 and 6). It's the smoked glass key, which is the only TEMPORARY (NO RENT) key for Befallen. I have not confirmed that the shadowknights actually spawn in the instance, my roommate and I spent over 2 hours killing both placeholders with no luck, so your best bet is to bring a Rogue or Bard to pick the locks, or hunt the keys in the normal Befallen before going into the instance (which we ended up doing).

- Ghil the Warlord has a max hit of 50.

- Rethkan appeared to have a lurid bat tied to him, so expect at least that to add when you fight him.
A few notes.

Learned a new way to open the door without the key. If you have eye of zomm the spell or an item that casts it, it can open the door and all you need to do is cancel the eye and then run through, no need to look for the key.

None of the task stages had descriptions, whether it was a bug or just the way the quest is. Nobody in my group had task stage descriptions.
