This task begins in the Plane of Knowledge with Castlen Drewe, who can be found across from the Soulbinder (/loc?). It is one of seven tasks introduced for players from level 10 to 20.

You say, 'Hail, Castlen Drewe'

Castlen Drewe says 'Greetings and welcome. I have been compiling reports from all over Norrath! There are many odd jobs to be done by someone like you. Would you be interested in such a [quest]?'

Qeynos Hills: Explore the entrance to Blackburrow
BlackBurrow: Kill 10 gnoll guardsmen

Scouts on patrol in the Qeynos Hills have been reporting an increase in aggressive gnoll activity. It seems that an unusual number of guardsmen have been seen roving through Blackburrow, as if they are gearing up for some sort of attack. Take the portal to Qeynos and venture to Blackburrow to investigate.

Find a way to thin the ranks of guardsmen. If they are planning something, we will need them to be as weakened as possible.

To complete the first stage, in Qeynos Hills, head to approximately +3400, -1040, near the entrance to BlackBurrow. Then journey into BlackBurrow itself and find and kill 10 x "a gnoll guardsman."

You have slain a gnoll guardsman!
Your faction standing with Sabertooths of Blackburrow got worse.
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos got better.
Your faction standing with Silent Fist Clan got better.
Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk got better.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Qeynos got better.
Your task 'Scouting Blackburrow' has been updated.

BlackBurrow: Explore the zone to Everfrost

Check passages leading out into Everfrost for any further clues to the objectives of the gnolls. If they are heading into Halas, we may have time to warn them.

To complete this stage, head to approximately +70, -265 in BlackBurrow.

Plane of Knowledge: Speak with Castlen Drewe

It seems that our scouts managed to alert us before the gnolls were fully prepared. Excellent work! Return to Castlen Drewe in the Plane of Knowledge.

Head back to Castlen Drewe:

You say, 'Hail, Castlen Drewe'

Your task 'Scouting Blackburrow' has been updated.

It's great to hear that you were so successful. Take this ring as a symbol of your courage.
You gain experience!!
You have been given: Gnollish Guardian Ring

Best spot to find Guardsmen

Blackburrow is hard to describe, but the best place to camp this is on the first subterranean level (Level 3 on EQAtlas.com). When you come down the long hall from the above ground level you make the first right turn (which will put you on the bridge over land, not the bridge over water), hop off the right side of the bridge and follow the right wall. You will pass a door on the right wall, with a bridge extending away from it to the left, but keep following the wall. The wall will open up to the right and there will be an upward ramp with bones printed in the floors and walls. At the base of the ramp are spawn points for three mobs (-150, 300 on EQAtlas.com). Gnoll Guardsmen can spawn in any of those three places. At the top of the ramp is a vacant room - the perfect place to pull your mobs for fighting (-400, 150 on EQAtlas.com). The mobs take roughly five minutes to respawn and while their spots are vacant there are plenty of other green mobs to kill for rusty weapons to sell. This quest is really easy.
Seems to be fixed.

Did this task on 17 July 2007. Walked through the zone to Everfrost, no jumping necessary, task updated normally. Received ring. Dwarf paladin.

The next to the last part of this quest, while within Black Burrow, is to explore the zone to Everfrost. As of about July 22, 2005 there is a bug at this spot. The task triggers complete when classes such as Wood Elves pass through the area, but should a Dwarf (and I assume Gnomes and Halflings) try the same thing, they come away frustrated. The resolution is to JUMP. Smiley: yippee Yes, go leaping through that final passage. After all, you have completed a difficult task, now leap for joy, and you will be blessed.

There is a thread on this at EQLive.
