Barrenzin may be found in the evil section of the Plane of Knowledge (/loc?).

Some of the quest text:

One of my chief competitors, a dark elf named Zanivar, edged me out on a deal with the Hill Giants in the Rathe Mountains. Rather than let him profit off the giant's supply of lambent stones, I decided to shut down the fool's caravan on their way back.

I had ogres set up an ambush at the bridge in the Feerrott and they trashed Zanivar's guards pretty good. Only trouble is they dumped the caravan's cargo into the river when they were 'cleaning up'. They likely washed downriver so I'd start at the bridge and work your way south. Be careful though, I'm sure Zanivar had those chests trapped with something.

You should know that Zanivar has likely sent a cadre of scouts down there to look for his missing caravan. You'll need to take care of them as well as I don't want him figuring out I'm behind the attack. They'll probably be prowling the water's edge, looking for goods that have washed ashore.

A word of caution; where the river forks is a small wedge of soil that leads to the Temple of Cazic-Thule, the Faceless. His worshipers, the Tae Ew are incredibly dangerous so I urge you to avoid those shores at all costs.

You say, 'Hail, Barrenzin'

Barrenzin says 'Greetings, ______,' Barrenzin smiles as he hands you a glass of wine. 'Thank you for coming on such short notice. Please make yourself comfortable and then we can discuss [business].'

You say, 'What business?'

Barrenzin says 'A Human that gets right to point,' Barrenzin smiles again. 'Such a refreshing change of pace from the pandering rabble I normally deal with. Allow me to be blunt then. I recently lost several, let's say, 'associates' of mine and I'm a little understaffed at the moment. I've been following your adventuring career since Gloomingdeep and I think you could go far in my [organization]. What say you? [Interested] in making a name for yourself? Or perhaps you have a [group] assembled that's looking for a little coin?'

You say, 'What organization?'

Barrenzin says 'I am the leader of the Black Hand. The details of our business can get rather messy so let me just put it this way. Goods from all over Norrath and beyond flow through the Plane of Knowledge. It is literally the hub of all reality. My organization moved here to deal in the subset of goods that are best traded. . .hmm. . .under the table. . .if you understand what I mean. Still [interested]?'

You say, 'I am interested.'

Barrenzin says 'Very well then. Here are the tasks I have for you right now. Be sure to report back to me as you gain field experience. As sure as the accursed sunrise, there's always more work to be done around here.'

You have been assigned the task 'Into the Muck'.

  • Loot 3 Lost Lambent Stone from Caravan Chest - 0/3 - The Feerrott

  • Silence 4 Scouts from Zanivar - 0/4 - The Feerrott

  • Deliver 3 Lost Lambent Stone to Barrenzin - 0/3 - The Plane of Knowledge

    >>Looting a chest (/open): "You pry open the chest mired in the river bed. A shrieking flash of light and a rush of bubbles rushes past you towards the surface.'

-- You have looted a Lost Lambent Stone

Your task "Into the Muck" has been updated.

A single cursed guardian spawns when you open the chest.

    >>Silencing (how politically correct) a scout from Zanivar:

Your task "Into the Muck" has been updated.

--You have slain a scout from Zanivar!

    >>The turn in:

Your task "Into the Muck" has been updated.
Your task "Into the Muck" has been updated.
Your task "Into the Muck" has been updated.

You have been assigned the task "Journey to Cabilis"

    (Text Yellow)
Well done, my most resourceful and highly-paid friend. Before you go to squander your loot, I suggest you find a bath and some new clothes for yourself. The reek of the Feerrott is thick about you. Be sure not to loose this note to your guildmaster though, as I will not easily replace it.

You have been given: Note About Your Third Trial

    >>The reward is the note, not the actual armor.

I can understand why most people would want to hit themselves in the balls with a rubber mallet when doing these quests. It seems EQ likes makeing these quest long and painful in finding what you need. The chests do spawn in the river south of the main bridge. They usually spawn 2 at a time and take up to 30 minutes for 2 more to spawn. I found the chests in the river bottom only where the river forks off into 2 ways. Others say they found them closer to the bridge they never spawned there for me. Make sure you have water breathing. I used my friends mage stones from his water stone spell. A easy to kill (well at least for me over level 20) beholder spawns when you type /open on the chest. Make sure you are a decent level or the piranhas will attack you and also will drowned caravan guards. The elf scouts are in the triangle between the fork of the river and hang around with conned red and yellow lizard men near the temples. The elfs are simple to kill and I didn't have much trouble singleing them out. they seem to spawn 2 or 3 at a time every 15 minutes. As a Iskar Necromancer I got some terror scale boots. Hitting my balls witha rubber mallet would of been less boring and time consuming though.

Vah Shir Rogue - Taruun Boots

The chests were found in the river, south of the big bridge. Upon entering them you get attacked by giant eye creatures (and sometimes pirahanas and guards). Gotta kill them and loot the chests. Found it easier to lure them ashore and kill since I couldn't swim fast enough to catch the runners underwater.

The scouts were then found like others previously mentioned on the triangle island near the lizard people. Took my chances and kept my fingers crossed I didn't aggro them and got lucky. The scouts do roam very close to the lizards you were warned to stay away from.
    Where are the scouts?
    # Jul 12 2006 at 12:42 PM Rating: Decent
I've been doing this quest for a little over and hour now and cannot find the scouts. The chests took about 15 minutes to find, but I haven't seen a single scout in the zone. I've roamed up and down the river 20 times and have ran around the rest of the zone just for good measure.
Do I need to do anything to get them to spawn or are they just really rare?
    Where are the scouts?
    # Aug 07 2006 at 2:43 AM Rating: Decent
The scouts are on the little piece of land between the two rivers south of the river fork. This is a fairly irritating fact, since the task specifically warns you to stay away from this area due to the presence of high level lizards. Unfortunately, this is exactly where you have to go.

I figured this out not by randomly searching but by using the Find button. Sure enough, there were five Zanivars Scouts listed. So you can actually follow the trail to them! Just be careful not to follow it blindly. It will probably lead you across the bridge to the Tae Ew area and to your death (since the bridge is guarded). Just swim across the river south of the bridge and you sould be alright.

did all the tasks in a day. It was slow at points finding the mobs with the goofy drops. But not really difficult at level 24.. probably much later than intended to be done.

Anyway, as an Iksar beast I turned my letters in to my gm and got: Clawscale wrist, clawscale circlet, clawscale leggings, clawscale sleeves, clawscale gloves and clawscale boots. All of which I equipped as a basically untwinked character. I may have recieved a clawscale face item of some sort but think I destroyed it if i did. The stats are the typical newb armor mishmash. A fair bit of charisma... some strength and stamina here and there.

ran into a bouncer last night... thankfully he conned indiferent to me. so I should not have to worry about them. I just started this quest and have only killed 2 of the scouts and had to log for the night. I will complete it tomorrow.

I found the chests pretty quickly. Get an Enduring Breath buff or a stone from a mage before you go.

Locs of the three chests I found:
    54, 713
    214, 838
    369, 953
    All are under water (-100)

The only thing that made this quest better was when I took a rubber mallet and started pounding myself in the ********* repeatedly. All of the quests from Barrenzin are so gut-wrenchingly horrible that only the dull, continuous, horrific pain of my ********* made me forget--and then, only for a few hours. It's too late for me, my friends, but perhaps you all can learn from my mistake. Don't do this quest. It's a waste of time.

I hear ya!!! These tasks replace the very well designed and implemented Newbie quests of old. The old quests took place in the newbie zone of the various races and each class had a different quest. SOE in their infinite retardedness, replaced those quests with these IDIOTIC tasks where EVERY race/class must repeat the exact same task over and over to complete their newbie armor. The odds of doing these dumb tasks on more than one char are zero. Typical of SOE. They took something that was very well designed and totally ruined them. All the work done creating the original quests has been tossed out the window for this "new" content. Waste of time and effort that could have gone into fixing outstanding bugs and/or broken quests. New content my A**! Recycled old content in a new generic cloak......
    RE: Kill me--Please.

They didn't replace the old quests. The old quests are still in place. The difference is that these missions send newbies (if there really are any more) all over Norrath. They get the items and decent exp without the old school mob camping.

    Just finished this.

Much more PITA than the Second Trial, (Harvest of Venom).

    All takes place in Feerrott.

Gather 3 Lost Lambent Stones from Caravan Chests in the river.

Silence, (heh), 4 of Zanivar's, (don't remember his name), scouts.

In the river, south of the bridge. There are some 'a caravan chest'. Use /open to, well, open them. A trap with a creature, (looks like the beholder with tentacle mouths, same look as in Guk LDoN), spawns as you open it. Conned even and yellow at level 12.

You cannot loot until the mob is dead.

Inside the chest is a Lost Lambent Stone.

The Scouts are Dark Elves roaming the shore of the river. Seems to spawn fairly quick, so no problem getting the 4.

The PITA wiht this task was finding the chests. I found 4 spawnpoints for them. All chests spawn south of the bridge, (this is also mentioned in the task text. Aswell the story of why Barrenzin needs this.)

1 spawn just a couple of feet south of the bridge.
1 about halfway down from the bridge and the fork to the Tae Ew peninsula.
And one chest on each side after the river splits.

Deliver the 3 Lost Lambent Stones to Barrenzin. Receive note for third rank. Give to Guildmaster to receive class-specific boots and xp.

Some other mobs are found in the river which relates to the task, but are not needed for the task. 'a drowned caravan guard' comes to mind.

    Also worth mentioning..

The trap creatures and scouts are on BetaKOS faction! Heh.

And I gotta start having /log on ...

    -Yc

A note on fighting the trap creatures and scouts.
Pull them well away from the river bank. There are wandering bouncers that like nothing more than to bounce your head off of their fists. They tend to walk the rivers edge on both sides. If you have and enduring breath item you could easily pull/stay in the water to make the kills, but I had a bouncer agro me while I was in the water and too close to the bank.

Yes, the bouncer that got me was swimming up the river when I encountered him.
