This solo task begins with Private Nylaen Kel`Ther (click for map image) in the Norrath's Keepers camp in the caves of Lavastorm Mountains (/loc 3750, 470).

Pre-requisites for requesting this task:
- Level 67+
- Minimum "amiable" faction with Norrath's Keepers
- Completion of all Tier 1 tasks and flags

You say, 'Hail, Private Nylaen Kel`Ther'

Private Nylaen Kel`Ther says 'We all have the opportunity to rise to greatness with Norrath's Keepers and our honorable allies across the lands.'

You have been assigned the task 'Defend the Kirin Contact'.

We'd thought we made headway against the Dark Reign, but it would appear that the source that helped us stay a step ahead is endangered. One of our scouts was able to find a sympathetic ear with a kirin in the mountain pass known as The Ascent. The agreement was that this kirin would warn us of any of the Dark Reign's advances and plans. We were told that some kirin students learned of the arrangement and have been attempting to kill our ally. As beautiful as the creatures are, some are dark and deadly in their intentions. We believe if we protect our source, the other kirin may decide to abandon their anger for our ally.

Kill 9 kirins 0/9 (The Ascent)

Any kirin in the zone counts towards this step. There may be a few spawns in the bottom half of the zone, but they are primarily found in the top half, meaning you need to invis or fight past everything else on the way up.

Upon killing the last kirin, you see:

You have completed the task for Norrath's Keepers!

Your faction standing with Norrath's Keepers got better. (+10)
Your faction standing with Firiona Vie got better. (+10)
Your faction standing with Lanys T`Vyl got worse. (-10)
Your faction standing with Dark Reign got worse. (-10)

I'm attempting to solo this with a healer merc. It can be done but is time consuming. Problem is you cant get all the way up the mountain unseen. There are see invis mobs scattered along the way so just make sure to con things as you go if soloing and avoid fights when you can or you'll be there for hours.

If theres nobody near the teleport gate at the bottom (there shouldn't be) then just run straight for it. Stay invis for as long as you can to avoid a huge train though. When you click it and you are ported up to the top just wait a little bit and you will lose the agro from the bottom and be out of combat. Once you're on the top half dodging the agro from the see invisers is pretty simple as long as one isn't hiding under a rock when you run past.

Ever since the release of TBS, undead have been wandering around. The Ascent is no different, making it a sight more perilous than it used to be.

I zoned into The (non-instanced) Ascent with my Lvl 75 toon/bots, trying to finish up my Tier 2 missions with them, and found it easy going...until I was halfway to the door that zones you into the second half of The Ascent. Here, I found 2 of the new undead (a dusty mummy & a vampire skirmisher) wandering around.

Skirmisher went down without any trouble, but that Mummy gave me a run for my money. It wasn't necessarily difficult to kill, in and of itself; the problem was that the damned thing respawned instantly, right on top of me, the second I killed it. I moved locations several times, each time killing it in a different spot; each time, it respawned right where the previous one fell. The levels varied a bit in between spawns (LB to DB), but it was always the same named/type mob (a dusty mummy). After 30 minutes, I eventually gave up and mezzed it; slowed/crippled it; rooted it; and ran my 2 bots up toward the second half of The Ascent (invised) while my 'chanter mem-blurred the mummy, before invising himself and joining them. I managed to get far enough out of its path (it did wander a tad) so I could resume my journey toward the summit without worrying about it jumping me from the rear.

Out of idle curiousity, has anyone ever encountered one of the new undead that acted in this manner? I found it very disturbing, to say the least. Had it not been for my Enchanter, I doubt I'd have been able to get past it, considering the mix of live/undead in the area.

There is a kirin that spawns at the Y on top half.Spawn time is 20 minutes. If you go any farther than that invis wont work.Right by where there are 3 drakes 1 of the kirin's see's will need a good puller for sure to take this on.

It has to be a kirin in The Ascent.
So no, killing kirins in a Creator mission don't count seeing as they're in Thundercrest.

Task description says any kirin in any zone qualifies. Does this include the kirin in the creator mission, which do not have the word Kirin in thier name?
