This is a mini-raid task (6-24 players) begins with Gordish Frozenheart (click for map image) in the Norrath's Keepers camp of the Lavastorm Mountains.

Pre-requisites for requesting:
- Minimum Level 65
- Minimum amiable faction with Norrath's Keepers
- Three players must be present in the zone before the event will start

When you hail him, you get a quest selection window pop-up, but these are only for his eight group missions. To request either of his two mini-raids, say "see those".

Gordish Frozenheart says 'I have some more jobs available if you have seventeen friends or so, would you like to [see those] instead?'

You have been assigned the task 'Circle of Drakes'.

It seems that some drake magi are working their foul magic inside the Nest. You must stop them from forming a circle and completing their spell. From what we can tell, it will take five drakes to complete the circle. They must be killed before they can form their circle. It's possible that the survival of Norrath hangs in the balance.

Task Steps

Touch the portal to the Nest 0/1 (The Broodlands)

Eliminate the drake magi 0/1 (The Accursed Nest)

Eliminate the second wave of drake magi 0/1 (The Accursed Nest)

Eliminate the third wave of drake magi 0/1 (The Accursed Nest)

Eliminate the fourth wave of drake magi 0/1 (The Accursed Nest)

Eliminate the fifth wave of drake magi 0/1 (The Accursed Nest)

The Event

The entrance is the dragon portal in the far northeastern part of the Broodlands.

Here, you'll need to kill five waves of Magus Drakes. The number of mobs in each wave increases as you progress through the event. The drakes will attempt to set up a circle in the center. Once a drake makes it to the center, it cannot be attacked. If five drakes make it to the center, the task fails.

The emote you'll see upon a wave spawn:

The flapping in the distance builds as the wind picks up.

The 'circle' is a nondescript area of land in the middle of the zone-in area. Mobs are called "drake magus" and can come from either the east (from across the bridge) or the west (from the tunnels leading to the rest of the zone).

For the first wave, you have to kill one mob. For the second wave, three mobs. For the third wave, three mobs. For the fourth wave, five mobs. And for the final wave, six mobs.

Each mob hits for a max ~1,100 and has ~60,000 hitpoints; "Lightning Cyclone":

Lightning Cyclone: Single Target, Magic (-17)
1: Cancel Magic (9)
2: Stun (3.00 sec)

Failure & Reset

The event fails if you let a fifth drake get to the center:

The first drake takes its place in the circle.

The second drake takes its place in the circle.

The third drake takes its place in the circle, you can feel the magic increasing around you.

The fourth drake takes its place in the circle, you can feel their spell is nearing its end.

As the final drake takes its place in the circle the ground trembles beneath your feet and energy shoots into the sky.

The task ends, and you are kicked out of the zone.

Completion & Loot

Upon completion, you see:

As the magic of the drakes fails you see an object appear at the center of their circle.

That was closer than we like to admit. We will analyze the focus, hopefully we will learn the intent of their magic. Thank you again.

A chest spawns in the central area, containing one item from this loot table:

Cape of Dragon Scales
Disc of the Dragon Kind
Necklace of Grimspirit Beads
Ore of the Nest

Rewards:
7 Radiant Crystals (number varies according to group's level)
1x "Norrath's Keepers Token" (faction turn-in item)

I'm on the combine server and in a gimp guild. We are low in numbers and can't do much else. I'm wondering if this is something we can pull off to keep us from dying of bordom. We might not be able to break in to PoTime but we do have a whole lot of mage dps. With a couple 12.5k buffed tanks is this doable?

It should be doable with a 12k tank, the mobs dont hit hard... its all about DPS... Kill the drakes before they enter the circle...

The timer for the drakes starts when u aggro em

Wait for em to gear near the circle, aggro em, kill em before they run towards the circle.... All there is to it

Did this with 12 beginning of May. We have a little anguish gear but we're mostly TSS-TBS geared. Fun stuff.

Of course with many ppl at lvl 75 this event becomes more trivial every day, but for those raids where its hard to scrape together a lot of ppl or who have several ppl under 70, here is what works:

1. Set up buff up outside of the instance. Nobody zones in early or it will start the timer prematurely.
2. Divide your raid force in half with the beefy'ier half west and the other half east.
3. Have a designated puller, preferably tank class SK, for each side to tag incoming Magus's so they dont add to your nukers/healers.
4. West team all casts invis and then everyone steps on the yellow teleporter disk to zone in.
5. West team ignores all normal zone mobs and races deep into the tunnel to the first T intersection and immediatly engages the one normal zone drake at that spot. They do this while Invis so that they can avoid the three or four normal zone mobs that would aggro and delay ppl trying to get into the tunnel to get ready for the Magus's. West team clears the last drake mob so that it will not add to the healers/nukers when they are engaging Magus's at that T location. They are there because if their DPS is not high enuf, the magus's will roam again to the circle. By having your DPS posistioned this far forward you have the 10 seconds before those magus's reaggro a target and you can bring them back to the T intersection before they get to a circle.
If you keep your raid force AT the circle, If at any time any Magus gets past you, then it immediately is counted as one of the five losses. You would have zero chance to recover and kill it.
6. East team immediatly races up the stone bridge up to the doors at the top and sets up camp there. This gives them room in case a drake flys past them, to reengage it and bring it back to the doors.
7. Both teams call out if they are overwhelmed with 3 or more drakes fighting at the same time. Then one to three ppl from the other team can run over to assist. Keep in mind that a mezzer may be needed for the zone drakes that were bypassed on the west side.
8. Once the magus's stop coming, if you havent won yet, just kill a zone drake and the chest will pop.

We have done this mission many times and have not seen the 165hp aug drop yet. Ore Nest seems to be the most common for us. Its quite a bit better aug for more classes with the shielding anyway.
Easy

Set up in the middle, just east of the cirlce, have a SK/Pal or any other puller bring the west drakes to you as they get close to the circle.

Have a MA set and make SURE all Dps is assisting that MA, if you have 2 in camp let 1 go by from west, remeber you CAN have 4 Drakes in the circle and still win so letting 1 go by to not overload your tanks will help =)

best to spilt raid in 2 groups
- east 2 tanks 1 clr 1 slower dps - total of 10
- west 2 tanks 1 clr 1 slower rest of raid
build dps groups around shm brd
postition east at bridge - name MA
position west inside tunnel at crossing - name MA
focus DPS on one mob ineach camp at a time
when waves are down - kill one trash to get mission updated

It would be a mistake to split your DPS this way. Stick a tank/healer on each side, and have the rest move as a unit and concentrate on one mob.

You're still making it MUCH harder than it needs to be. Not only by splitting the dps, but mostly by the way you position the tanks.

...actually I've been using this strategy too. We use less than two groups to do this mission now. We cycle in alts and stuff from time to time as part of the raid force. (can't add anyone after mission has started so do so beforehand) We use 8 people (mostly time/DoDh geared) with a few CoA geared folks. I take a force of 3 to the east over the bridge as you zone in from Broodlands. Paly (me, 17.5khps-3kac-1kAAs) my boxed shaman (12k/12k-500AAs) and a friend's Monk (gimp, heh) while the other 5 or 6 friends move to the West hall near the first "T" intersection. Their force includes a Warrior (18k-2.5kac-350AAs) and a cleric (15k mana/1.5kAAs) plus assorted alts and others for dps purposes. The east side is easy, you get 3 waves of single magus' and 2 waves of 2. You set up accross the bridge near the doorway that leads to Ju'rek. Can pull the drakes back up after they try to run once you have reaquired aggro to delay them from reaching the "Circle". It only gets difficult if you take too much time killing your waves of 2 as the next wave can spawn on you before you have finished the wave before. (fun fun) The other group that is set up in the west cave will sometimes have some difficulty on the last waves and have been overrun and wiped a few times... But we have never lost, as long as you keep 5 of the Magus drakes from reaching the circle you win. None of the drakes are very tough but if you get enough of them on anyone they can down you quickly. 1kish max hits, slowable, not stunable/not rootable/not snareable. First 3 waves are blue con to 75 and last 2 waves are even cons. I have'nt noticed any difference in their difficulty regardless of levels. I hope this helps, good luck. =)
Testing
# May 05 2006 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
Did this last night, tested a couple things:

Quote:
This event has been changed / nerfed as there are a total of 20 Drake Magus now.

Must prevent 16 from entering the circle.

If it was broken for a time, it is not now. 5 drakes in the circle and you are booted from instance.

Quote:
SK's can use thier heavy aggro spell on them to turn them back to raid. Warriors have an AA that stops mobs from Fleeing, this will work to pull one back to raid. Paladins can try some high aggro Stun spam to bring them back. Keep drawing them back to the raid til you finish them off.

Call of Challenge, stuns, terrors, etc. did NOT turn the mobs back to the raid while they were running. After roughly ten seconds or when they reached the circle area, if there were people still damaging them/trying to aggro them, the drakes would stop and reaggro on whoever was closest. Call of Challenge might have helped with this, but I wasn't able to test if they didn't reaggro without being hit with CoC. Any drake that ran, up to the last wave, behaved this way. On the last wave they ran to the circle, reaggro'd if you're on them, but depopped into the circle immediately after.

There are 20 magus in the event. Either you prevent (KILL) a minimum of 16 from entering circle (WIN) or you allowed at least 5 to enter (FAIL), same difference.

Gather outside of zone, buff and make sure 100% of your raid is awake and ready.

All zone in, Move to the east just before the bridge. Pull 1 of the Drakes that's basically in the way for pulling from the west, and kill it.

1st mob comes from other side of bridge on the east. Send a bard out to the West to pull from there. SK can pull mobs from the east. SK/Paladin's get initial aggro, and off tank if needed. ALWAYS pull the mobs to the point just before the bridge to the East. ALWAYS reset your raid to that position after finishing off drakes.

The MOST IMPORTANT aspect is all DPS must focus on one drake at a time, the Off tanks will keep the attention of the drakes while you polish them off 1 at a time.

Wave 4 and 5 you will most likely have some mobs trying to forget you and head to the Circle.

We beat this a few months ago, most were in Time gear with a few pieces from GoD up to Qvic. The healing requirements aren't intensive, unless you have a tank with too many mobs on them.

Good luck.

BUG NOTE: on a few occasions we have won this event with no text message saying we won, and no chest with loot.

You MUST kill any other drake in the zone, and presto mission complete, and chest pop.

You know you won, if you did not get booted from zone, and no more Magus Drakes are comming to rape you.

GL, the loot for this mission ROCKS, but is no easy task. All 24 peeps must work well together, focus on DPS, Off-tanking, and a good MA.

Gear wise, we’ve been farming Time a few months, still working on Ikki. Most everyone has their 1.5’s or comparable dps.

This trial starts almost immediately upon zoning in. Have the entire raid team form outside and have everyone zone in together.

Drake Magus will approach from various directions to form a circle, once the circle is complete with 5 Magi, you have failed.

The "Circle" is nothing more than a clearing, west of zone in.

The Magi seem to fly in from either the West or West and East.

Wave 1: Flies up path from West
Wave 2: One from West and East
Wave 3: One from West, two from East
Wave 4: 4, don't recall where
Wave 5: 5, same.

Magus "respawn" about 30 (?60?) seconds after you engage them. Essentially, agro is cleared and they start roaming towards the circle. Guessing this is the clue your raid failed the wave. You will see the following:

drake magus focuses its attention once again on reaching its spot in the circle.

When the 5th Drake Magus reaches the circle, you will see;

As the final drake takes its place in the circle the ground trembles beneath your feet and energy shoots into the sky.

drake magus focuses its attention once again on reaching its spot in the circle.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...

Lost for strat and positioning, guessing form up in the circle itself and pull to it? Fight at zone in? One thing is clear, relentless dps is needed, every wave seems to be on a timer.

Lockout on a win is 2 days, 20 hours. On a lose is no lockout.

We had a win tonight but it took about 5-10 minutes for it to decide it was a win. Just when we cast ae xloc, it finally ticked in. I guess it was just bugged and as soon as someone zoned it worked it out. So just a heads up, if that happens, have someone zone, or just wait.

If you successfully complete it a Chest spawns with the loot inj the center of the drakes circle, 7 crystals awarded for completion

Misson consists of 5 waves each wave has the respective number of drakes (so the 3rd wave has 3 and 5th has 5) Each wave has progressively more difficult/higher level mobs

You DO NOT speak to the leutennant for this mission... you speak to Gordish Forsenheart (p3623, p526. Gnome near fire at good camp) and say to him "see those"

This is a DoN trial that is very easy for the loot it gives. Basically 24 Qvic geared people can tackle it easily enough. The basis is you need to kill 5 waves of drake magus's. First wave is 1 Magus and so on up to 5. There is a time limit, and you have to do all 5 waves within that limit.
