Notice: Cultural tradeskills were recently given a major overhaul. Much of this information may be outdated.

We would like to have this guide on the wiki. The wiki article about Dragons of Norrath Cultural Armor can be found here. If you have any information to contribute, you can do so directly if you desire.

This is an overview of how Cultural Armor quests in Dragons of Norrath work. For more detailed information related to individual races, use the quest links on the lefthand side of this writeup.

This cultural armor works in tiers (note the indicated levels are requirements for getting the tasks from quest NPCs; you can make the low-stat armor at earlier levels, but not the augmentations):

First Tier: Simple
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 30th level.

Second Tier: Ornate
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 40th level.

Third Tier: Intricate
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 60th level.

Fourth Tier: Elaborate
-Tradeskill components obtainable earlier than 70th level, but you won't be able to get the task for the required book until then.

There are plate, chain, leather, and silk armor combines. Plate and chain is done through smithing in cultural forges. Leather and silk is done through tailoring in cultural sewing kits.

Note that mold and pattern combines produce an eight-slot backpack full with the following items:
20x Chest Slot
20x Legs Slot
20x Arms Slot
20x Head Slot
20x Hands Slot
20x Feet Slot
40x Wrist Slot

Obtain Armor Books

See the "Tradeskill Quests" NPC in your home city. Perform tasks to obtain an Ancestral Armor Book, Simple Book, Ornate Book, Intricate Book, and Elaborate Book.

..........................................................................................................................

Smithing Recipes:

MOLDS = Ancestral Armor Book + High Quality Firing Sheet + Huge Block of Clay + Compacted Backpack + Sculpting Tools

SHEETS = Cultural Hammer + Water Flask + (Tier's) Bar (made in the above combine)

ARMOR PRODUCTION = Armor Mold + # (Tier's) Sheet(s)/Bar(s) + Large Brick of Cultural Metal + Cultural Hammer
**NOTE: # is 3 for Chest and Legs; 2 for Feet and Head; 1 for Arms, Hands, and Wrists
**NOTE: Chain combines use BARS; Plate combines use SHEETS

This produces armor with minor stats and augmentation slots 7, 11, 12.

Tailoring Recipes:

NEEDLE = Embroidering Needle + Cultural Brewing Essence

PATTERNS = Ancestral Armor Book + Roll of Plain Parchment + Large Bottle of Ink + Compacted Backpack + A Quill

SWATCHES = Cultural Spool of Thread + Cultural Needle + Culture-Specific Silk Swatch or Dropped Hide/Pelt

ARMOR PRODUCTION = Armor Pattern + # (Tier's) Swatch(es) (produced in the above combine) + Large Spool of Cultural Thread + Cultural Needle
** NOTE: # is 3 for Chest and Legs; 2 for Feet and Head; 1 for Arms, Hands, and Wrists

This produces armor with minor stats and augmentation slots 7, 11, 12.

I wonder if this was changed with the patch? I made my armor patterns before the patch, and had no problems. Last night, I was trying to make the symbol patterns, and it wouldn't work. I was using the same quill that I'd used before (the non-stackable "quill"), and it didn't work. I triple checked, using the book, this site and eqtraders. Everything seemed right. In frustration, I checked my hometown merchant and saw that she now sold stackable "a quill" instead, so I bought one, tried it, and it worked.

So, to sum it up: Before patch I used "quill" and it worked. After patch "quill" didn't work and "a quill" did. Does anyone else think this may be one of the "tradeskill changes" mentioned? Maybe they decided to change it because of all the confusion with the two quills?

Edit: Now that I think about, I bought "quill" from the same merchant that I bought "a quill" from. When I was there last night, she didn't sell "quill" at all. Now I'm quite sure that this was a patch change.

for the symbol quest the "quill" worked fine for me, but for the armor patterns "a quill", now i think that the symbol combine may have been done before the patch, haven't tried to make the other symbol patterns as of yet, later on I will provide further information along with the pictures and info of the resulting combines that I have done so far

I've made journeyman's symbols for my friend and master's symbols for myself (both plate classes). For the journeyman's I had to use "a quill" for the master's I had to use "quill". Not sure which experts or gm uses.
Vale Sewing Kit
# Mar 04 2005 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
I am trying to make the Vale (Halfling) Sewing Kit. I have tried to combine - Water Flask + Needle Mold + Thimble Mold + Small Brick of Mercurium. (in the Vale forge) DID NOT COMBINE.

I then tried - Water Flask + Needle Mold + Thimble Mold + High Quality Metal Bits. (in the Vale Forge) IT MADE A VALE SEWING KIT. But that would not work for DON combines.

Will it say Vale Sewing Kit or Vale Sewing Kit (DoN.

Any help will be appreciated.
Is it worth it?
# Mar 01 2005 at 12:47 PM Rating: Decent
Just starting the quest really, however trying to figure out if it is worth the time and troubles? I am already GM in 2 tradeskills and all others are over 180. Tailoring and smithing is so tedious with farming and what not to get the skillups. There are some nice quests out there that require high tradeskills...So if this is the way to boost over 200+ than i am all for it. If not I will just keep doing it the old fashion way.

Granted the tasks for the pattern books take countless hours. The reward however, I personally like. It's nice to be able to raise your tradeskills up with the less expensive, more common items. It takes more time to start, yes but, you're not looking at 1-5k combines at the 200-250 level. And as a halfling, I hated killing all the brutes in DL and Warsilk Woods to maybe get 1 HQ brute hide.

So is it worth your time and troubles? Financially yes, time wise, yes if you farm your own pieces. If you're sitting on millions of plat and spend most of your time with tradeskills or buying/selling in the bazaar.. probably not unless you want a piece of this market too.

It's really an individual choice if it is worthwhile or not. I for one am looking forward to finishing off the Master's book and raising my skills to the new cap without putting a huge dent in my bank account. Grandmasters I wouldn't rush into unless you're bent on getting the newest stuff out on the market first while inflation is high. I'm taking the Grandmaster's book whenever it finishes itself off. My suggestion though, if you want this book, is to get the task now while the zones are still littered with people. A couple of kills here and there add up and you won't have to push to work on it as a direct task.

I haven't done a stillmoon DoN for awhile but, I'm finishing off the mission for the 2nd AA tomorrow and will check if the instanced zones count aswell as the normal.

GL in your questing,
Wyre

Wood Elf cultural sewing kit
# Mar 01 2005 at 1:57 AM Rating: Decent
The combine listed above for the WE sowing kit is incorrect, as someone on eqtraders pointed out. Combine 2 pieces of mithril with 1 Morning Dew to get 1 Mithril bit. Combine 1 mithril bit, 1 needle mold, 1 thimble mold and 1 water flask in forge to get new Fier'Dal Sewing Kit
Halfling Question
# Mar 01 2005 at 12:15 AM Rating: Decent
Shouldn't Halfling rangers use the water of storms? They follow Karana, they aren't agnostic or follow brell, or bristlebane or rallos. The symbol pattern book says storms, is that correct or not? Karana water is not for sale in Rivervale that I have seen.

I have a quick question, do you HAVE to be level 40 to do the second book? I have a majorly twinked necro, I can easily solo mobs in Sol A, so I wanted to know if I could do the second at 31, without wating till 40.
RE: Question!
# Mar 03 2005 at 2:33 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, you have to be 40. The tradeskill NPC won't give you the task to get the 40 book until you're 40, so the kills and collects you do won't count towards the task. You don't get the reward (book) until you complete the task.

The symbols themselves are made with Smithing/Tailoring and yes anyone can do the water combines even if they are not of the correct deity as far as i can tell. I've already handed out a few pieces of smithed armor since i can't use it :)

Hmm, just troubleshooting here: Are you using "Quill" or "A Quill" -- the quill you need is just "Quill." The other one is for research purposes. I'll add this note to the text above to make that clear.

Maybe also double check which type of Vellum you are using for your combine.

Is the Grand Master book the same as the Master book - for augments or do you need it for armor patterns?

Yar Shiverbrow is in South Kaladim not North.

Also,it's kind of dumb that the symbol quests can't be done at the level each Tier piece is Required. Example: My lvl 16 Pally can't do the Journeyman quest until level 20 even though the armor has a Req of 15....this should be changed. My level 39 Pally should be able to make Expert symbols and my lvl 16 should do JM symbols.....SOE has strange logic.
I realize they expect players to craft pieces for other players, but it would still make more sense if the crafters could do the quests at the Req levels.

BTW,I love the Reward listed at the bottom LOL :-)

I just thought of something else...the GM chest armor/symbols have a trivial of 386....but aren't some races limited to 250 or 300 in smithing or tailoring? Have the race restrictions been eliminated now?

The skill cap on tradeskills has never kept combines from having a higher than 250 trivial. Most velium and platinum jewelry have trivials well over 250, the old cultural armors all have trivials over 250, baking and brewing have long had many trivials well over 250. All a 350+ trivial does is ensure that the resulting item is suitably difficult to achieve and in theory won't flood the market too quickly.

In short, there have always been "impossibly difficult" combines, we just didn't know how difficult they really were until the new tradeskill interface was released.

The Human quest npc is Tar Cordell, and he can be found near the monk guild pool/Crow's Bar, no /loc in my notes at the moment.

I think that is supposed to be Blue Flame, not Blind Fish. At least that is where I found the guy. ;-)

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 25 2005 at 9:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well alrighty then. Not sure what this has to do with Cultural Quests. Perhaps your post has been misplaced within the WACKY world of Allakhazam:)
