Find Vivian Selgan in East Freeport (location -1015, -865).

You say, 'Hail, Vivian Selgan'

Vivian Selgan says 'Hello ______. What brings you back 'ere? Wanted to be round yer own [kind] again?'

You say, 'Kind?'

Vivian Selgan says 'Aye. A lot of us have returned home these past few months. Seems distrust is brewing among them other races. Now, I don't want to be accused of bigotry, some of those other races are okay--dwarves and elves are pretty reliable in a fight--but the rest: you can't trust 'em. Like them blasted dark elves: always plotting something. And those lizard things. . . don't even get me started with those. Folks don't feel safe out there anymore so they come back here for protection. Why do you think I came back to the city! To be 'round more humans, folks I can [trust]!'

You say, 'Trust?'

Vivian Selgan says 'Aye, you know what I mean. We need to stick together, form a unified front and let our enemies know we mean business. In fact, right now I'm making armor for the city militia. Hmm, you look like you'd be good in a fight. Perhaps you'd be [interested] in these armor designs. Or maybe you want to know more about the military and scholarly [symbols] we humans have used over the ages? I can share my patterns for either the symbols or the armor with you provided you don't go blabbing my trade secrets to no dark elves. Can't trust those kind!'

You say, 'I am interested.'

Vivian Selgan says 'Excellent, I can make you a pattern book, but first I'm gonna need some materials. Bring me a raw-hide belt for the cover, a low quality cat pelt for the pages, a snake venom sac for the ink, and a cutthroat insignia ring for the binding. I have heard most of these items can be found in the Oasis of Marr, South Ro and the Commonlands. Bring them to me and the pattern book shall be yours.'

On handing in the items:

Artisan Vivian Selgan says 'Aye, well done, my friend! As promised, 'ere is the pattern book. It may take some practice to get a hang of those designs, but they should serve you well. Don't forget about us if a war breaks out. I want you up on those city walls with me, aye!'

You receive your book of Ancestral Human Armor.

You say, 'What symbols?'

Vivian Selgan says 'Once ye've got yer armor, ye might want ta reinforce it with these symbols. Fetch me a few things so I can make the symbol patterns. There's reagents I need in [Befallen], [The Hole], [The Dragon Necropolis], and the [valley] beyond the Lavastorm Mountains.'

2) Loot 2 Old Dragon Horns

Tar Cordell says 'Hello ______. What brings you back 'ere? Wanted to be 'round yer own [kind] again?'

You say, 'My kind?'

Tar Cordell says 'Aye. A lot of us 'ave returned 'ome these past few months. Seems distrust is brewing among them other races. Bring me a fire beetle carapace for the cover, a patch of zombie skin for the pages, a golden bandit tooth for the clasp, and a lion tail to grind down and make a salve which will protect and preserve the finished product. You say, 'What patterns?'

Tar Cordell says 'Aye, I can give you these patterns provided you can help me with some missions for Qeynos. What do ya say? Can you help ol' Tar out? I need someone to spearhead expeditions to [Erud's Crossing], [Kedge Keep], the [Dragon Necropolis] or, if you've got the metal for it, the [valley] on the other side of the lavastorm mountains. Journeyman's Book of Human Culture

That should clear the way a bit for our sailors! Bring me three lake pebbles from their stomachs as proof of your kills. Not that I don't trust ya, I just need something to show the boys when I let 'em know the way is clear.'

Vivian doesn't like rogues and won't respond to hails with the proper dialogue. However, if you say the key words, she will still give you the tasks, as well as accept turn in items for ancestral and culture books.

If you need clarification; target Vivian and /say Befallen, the Hole, the Dragon Necropolis, or Valley (Just like the quest says to do above) and your task assignment window will pop up and you can accept tasks.

I have looked but cannot find any ways to increase faction with Vivian, nor can I find what faction list she is on.
problem with hand ins
# Nov 01 2005 at 8:09 AM Rating: Decent
I am having problems doing my turn ins to Vivian Selgan in W. Freeport. She just hands me the marrow for the journeyman's and the drops of mercury for the expert's books back saying that she has no need for them, even though that is the next stage in my task window. I have done a bug report and petitioned it, GM response is that it not bugged and I should contact other adventures for assisantance. I do believe that this is a bug, posts on other sites have people having the same problem with their quest giver. I can not get them to assist me, so following their advice...Any ideas on how to bypass this or get the GM to actually look into the problem. THANKS

There is indeed a reported bug with the hand-in for multiple DoN cultural armor quests. I'd imagine it'll be fixed in the near future.

Did the quest for Human Grandmaster change? Getting 80 Rough Goblin skins seems to be taking forever. The only place I have found them is the Don Mission Animated Statue Plans. Anyone found a better way to get them?
RE: Human Grandmaster
# Jul 21 2005 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
ive completed the quest for gm ...though it took a long time to complete it....here is what i found to be true

1 tracking the kyrinn mission...best drop rate for the rough patches of goblin skin

2 animated statue plans mission second best drop rate

3 sickness of the spirit mission 3rd best drop rate

others arent worth time or effort to do for drop rate. also i must say for best result you have to do them in 1 sitting so grab some good friends that are willing to do mission after mission after mission & good luck to all who do this quest.

They drop during the "Sickness of the Spirit" mission as well, and probably during any other mission in an instanced version of Stillmoon Temple.

i am reading about this pile of gravel and someone said its for master stuff.. but when I look at the master trivial >260(263-290)..i dont see this as a requirement..

This looks like a pretty decent way to get to 300.. Can anyone help this tired person understand whats so difficult about it? It appears aside from doing the quest to get the book.. all the stuff is purchased.... Maybe you have to do the quest alot.. but at least its.. at least 20 combines right? or is it 20 + 40(for wrists)??

Human Cultural Armor
# Jun 27 2005 at 11:11 PM Rating: Decent
OK, I got my Ancestral Armor Book, High Quality Firing Sheet, Huge Block of Clay, Compacted Backpack and Sculpting Tools (for making armor forms). I tried combining them in every forge in North and South Qeynos, and tried to combine them in the only pottery wheel that I found in Qeynos, which happened to be in South Qeynos. Did I miss something somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

So far it is kill 80 Chetari, and collect 2 old dragon horns. I am a 3boxer with a 67 cleric, 65 druid, and 63 monk. I have been able to handle with these three on the far east side of the dragon necropolis zone. I pull to east corner approx -100, -2400 after clearing that corner. No matter what you will get add's from phase spiders. They con dk blue to my 63 monk. You need to go inside the courtyard adjacent to that pull area where all the chetari hang out and pull 1-2 out at a time. If you can get enough cleared you can go inside, snuggle in a corner and single pull to your hearts content.

I am getting the human armor for my 63 monk. I will post what comes next when i complete the remainder of the 80 chetari. I have 12 left to kill.

1)kill 80 chetari or chelaki

2) loot 2 old dragon horn

3) devliver 2 old dragon horn to tar cordell

4) kill 5 phase spiders

5) loot 1 phase spider silk

6) deliver 1 phase spider silk to tar cordell

My camp spot was just off the main level, thru the building and to the rat tunnel off to the right. I always just invised my way there until I was ready to fight. You can identify the rat tunnel because there are always one or two rat guards on the side of the opening. We camped in the rat tunnel on the stairs going down just in a little ways at a flat spot so that no roaming spider would add from up top. Two spawns there to clear and ez to pull from below and also the two-three from up top. running up and down the stairs was not a problem, just keep levitate off and you only need to jump a little on the lowest last step. The rest of the steps you can run up at the different angles or with the little strategically placed rocks as steps. The problem with this spot is that there are the darned swarming beetle traps in the lower tunnels and on the stairs. We didnt want to set our camp up top because of all the roaming spider adds.
Tried soloing with 70 bard.. Nope, 2 kills and beetle trap ended the trip
Tried two boxing with wifes 66 cleric.. Nope swarming beetles sent us to guild lobby
Tried two boxing with wifes cleric and a 63 necro friend.. Beetles got us again
Brought entire group of 70 bard, 70 necro, (wife playing)66 cleric, 62 mage, 53 mage, 59 Beast.. We owned all spawns of swarming beetles, 1 person got killd once when cleric lagged out. Cleric accidentally looted one horn so we had to kill like 85-90 rats to get 3rd drop.
The 2nd half of the quest is much easier. Just sit at zone in and two-box the spiders again. I did this easy. Silk drops often. Got like 3 silks in 5 spider kills

I finally finished the 120 kills & loot 80 rough patches of goblin skins. By far the skins were the worst part averaged 3 to 5 skins per mission of tracking the krynin. When i turned in the 4 skins of the 80 looted she gave me the next 2 tasks to do #4 kill 10 mobs in stillmoon temple (any 10 mobs) #5 loot 1 stone necklace....im assuming the stone necklace will be the last turn in for the gm book...either way i will post last task if its not been posted by the time im done

I've already sent this in, but I don't know how long it will take them to change or update it. But the Journeymen's quest is Kill 15 Sharks and Loot 3 Lake pebbles and turn in the pebbles those are the first three tasks of that quest. The others for that quest are correct.

Now on the Expert's Quest it's kill 40 mermaids and look 15 Ocean Inks and turn those in. I am not sure about the last part I have not gotten that far yet.

I did this quest yesterday so my information is extremely new and I am on the Stromm server. Also this is from the quest giver in Qeynos

If you are KOS in freeport for any reason, just go to South Ro and do the great caiman issue quest over and over. After about fifteen twenty times, you should become glowers at least... Then you can do the Freeport armor quests without having to run and hide like a scared little baby.

Not to mention you would have to remain invis'd the entire time you were trying to smith your items. Oh yeah, the cultural forge is in the middle of all those guys who want to kill you at the warrior guild hall. I would have to slay every guard and get the job done before repops. Easier just to work out of Qeynos. End result is the same, there is not substantial difference in the armor made in either city, except perhaps name.

Try petitioning to change your home town from Freeport to Qeynos. The GMs should have no problem with this, just say you chose the wrong one by accident when the message first came up and only realized it now.

Q Are they any other potential ramifications to changing your hometown as a human pally besides the obvious chooisng Go Home makes you go to other city?
RE: Can Paladins do this?

Once again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing Freeport if you have been born there and are kos.

I am KOS to militia yet no less than indifferent to the lady. I think I am amiable or better.
Check your merchant faction, both good and black market. Check all Freeport factions and compare.

Make sure you are not talking to the half elf by the Priest of Discord in Qeynos if a human. The human is by the monk guild at the pool.

I am able to get quests from both of them.

There is NO ONE at the warrior guild hall that will kill you if you killed Lucan. I skilled up on old imbued cultural a long time ago there.

what hes talking about is his faction with vivian, or merchants has been ruined, like mine (paladin). regardless, you can skip the chat and just do the tasks. ie "befallen", "the hole", etc, and handing in items doesnt require faction.

my question is, are there faction adjustments for doing these quests...

I am a KOS paladin also.
Invis works fine.
The quest giver is not on same faction
as the guards.
my kingdom for a belt

I cannot for the life of me find a rawhide belt. And Vivian won't accept a large or small raw hide belt, which I did find. Killed every orc, cutthroat, zombie, skeleton, ghoul and mummy I could find in Oasis, South and north ro, east and west commonlands, for over FOUR HOURS! Wtf is up with that? Saw dozens of every other type of rawhide there is but no damn belts. Any suggestions? I also checked out every merchant I could find. Nada.

Is there faction related to this? I am a 66 warrior of Rallos Zek from freeport. I tried to talk to Vivian and she was apprehensive to me. Gave me the line about how much she could get for the tongue of a blithering fool. Not sure what I did to her. She makes me mad though. =P Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

<<<Edit>>>

Ok, Fixed my faction problem in freeport with two simple quest that can be done at the same time.

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=612

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=613

Was very easy. Just got both notes from NPCs who are in the secret caves under the dock and ran them over to some npc's that are by Vivian. Then went back under the docks for turn ins and picked up more notes. I gave up on being able to do cultural in freeport until I found these. Good Luck all.

If you mean the lava that is in the last room in the far east side of the top of DN, then good luck getting past all the 70 mobs for the bard epic if they are up.

Currently all of them plus the level 75 shade is up.
Not in north qeynos
