Phase One [brewing of the war (10-12 days)]
Phase Two [Firiona Vie outpost overtaken (4.5 hours)]
Phase Three [yet to be played out?]

****************************
PHASE ONE
****************************

A war is brewing in the Dreadlands between so-called "good" and "evil."

There are two sides to the war:
Lanys T`Vyl and Al`Kabor

Lanys T`Vyl

Lanys T`Vyl and army can be found near the tunnel leading to the portal valley. She and her cohorts are on Venril Sathir faction.

There are a number of quests and turn-ins you can do to gather various items.

Faction hits for these quests are what?

This is the starting text for the Exquisite Defiler's Ring. You need amiable faction standing or better.

You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'I sense hate welling up within you. Harness it and use it to fuel the strength you need to destroy our [enemies].'

You say, 'What enemies?'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'In the valley before us, the pawns of Firiona wait to be slaughtered. Bring me a pair of their severed heads and you will be rewarded for your loyalty.'

More information, dialogues needed.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Al`Kabor

Amiable faction with Firiona Vie is required to do these turn-ins.

Firiona Vie, having escaped from the Tower of Frozen Shadow, is now in her self-titled city outpost.

You say, 'Hail, Firiona Vie'

Firiona Vie says 'Hail and well met, friend. It appears that you have arrived during dire times. Lanys T`Vyl, daughter of Innoruuk himself, has gotten wind of my escape from the Tower of Frozen Shadow and has come looking for a fight. My wounds have kept me from answering her call, but fortunately, Al`Kabor has assumed command of the armies of Firiona Vie to ensure the safety of the city. I encourage you to seek him out for he has need of every able bodied soldier he can find. May Tunare's blessing be upon you.'

Al`Kabor and company can be found outside the tunnel leading to Firiona Vie. He and his army are on Firiona Vie faction.

Upon talking to Al`Kabor in the Dreadlands:

You say, 'Hail, Al`Kabor'

Al`Kabor glares at you for a moment before speaking. 'I'm hoping those dents in your helm haven't dulled your wit too much. Well, at least you've seen battle. This lot's fought nothing but Drolvarg for years and I'm afraid they're not up for the kind of fight [Lanys] has in mind.'

You say, 'Who is Lanys?'

Al`Kabor says 'That witch caught the scent of Firiona, I'm sure of it, and means to finish what she started in Kithicor. Firiona is recovering in the city and is safe for the moment, but Lanys has arraigned the armies of Overthere against us and her [patrols] are canvassing the Dreadlands as we speak.'

You say, 'What patrols?'

Al`Kabor says 'That's where you come in. Put that brawn to use and bring me any scouting reports you find. I need to know how much they know about our defenses.'

Give Al'Kabor both halfs of a report:

Al`Kabor says 'I need the other half of this report for it to be useful.'
Al`Kabor says 'These accuracy of these reports is disturbing. Take these trinkets and leave me. I must study them.'
Your faction standing with Firiona Vie got better.
Your faction standing with Emerald Warriors got better.
Your faction standing with Storm Guard got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got worse.
Your faction standing with Pirates of Gunthak got worse.

Handing in the top and bottom halves of the Sebilisian Scout's Reports rewards you with the Simple Guardian's Earrng. Handing in the top and bottom halves of the Sebilisian Patrol's Report rewards you with the Ornate Guardian's Earring. Handing in the top and bottom halves of the Sebilisian Commander's Report rewards you with the Exquisite Guardian's Earring.

There are a number of other quests and turn-ins you can do to gather various items.

List of items which resulted from Phase One:

Dark Plated Scout's Armguards
Exquisite Defiler's Ring
Great Helm of Cunning
Mask of Defiant Rage
Necklace of Purest Vision
Ornate Guardian's Earring
Pauldrons of the Defiler
Simple Guardian's Earring

More information, dialogues needed.

PHASE TWO
****************************

On 02 February 2005, war broke out. Fighting went on for about four and a half hours (real time):

00:00 Lanys T'Vyl shouts, 'Dark Riders, step out from the nightmares of the world and show these pathetic worms true pain!'

00:00 The sky darkens as a pall falls over the land. Something evil has entered the world.

00:00 Al'Kabor shouts, 'Stalt, Aphasia, you have a task at hand. Lanys calls upon her darker minions and our armies cannot stand against their might alone. Get out there and put those beasts to rest before they tear our troops apart!'

The war is on..

00:44 Lanys T'Vyl shouts, 'My pet, you have waited in the wings long enough. The time has come for you to feast upon the fear of mortals once more. Step into this world and rend it apart!'

00:44 An unnatural roar echoes through the valley as the air around you grows thick with the scent of decay.

Several named mobs appear in the Dreadlands.. sides are chosen.. Some significant items are among the drops..

01:45 Al`Kabor shouts, 'Enough with your games, Lanys! It is time to finish this charade!'

01:45 Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Hasten to your death, fool. Your magic won't protect you any longer.'

01:52 Al`Kabor shouts, 'This day is not yet done, Lanys! You have grown strong in your exile, but even your might is not enough to breach the gates of Firiona Vie!'

01:52 Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Commanders, the time is upon us. That meddling fool has fled like the coward he is. Rally your forces and take the city!'

The Firiona Vie outpost is overtaken by evil forces.

04:38 Firiona Vie shouts, 'Fair citizens of Firiona Vie, be strong in this dire time. The city may be lost but we must preserve what we have left. We will regroup, gather our strength, and one day we will reclaim our fair city!'

04:38 Al`Kabor shouts, 'Fool! The only thing you are going to accomplish is getting your own skull split! Your duty is to Firiona. Don't let your pride get in the way of that. We've done what we can for these people, but now we must depart this doomed city before we are doomed ourselves.'

04:38 Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Don't think you can escape my wrath so easily, Firiona. You can not hide from me. No matter where you go, I am not far behind and on the day you fall, it will be me looking down upon you as you take your final breath! Soldiers, tear the city apart. I want nothing left alive.'

05:08 Sebilisian Commander says 'Come and feel the blade of the Dark Bargainers.'

The Firiona Vie outpost is no longer a safe haven for good-aligned forces. It has been overtaken by Lanys T`Vyl and her dark elven army of golems and evil forces.

Rumour has it that Firiona Vie and company are planning an attempt to regain control of their outpost..

god damn it, i always miss the good stuff....all i want is to get 1 artifact, and then i will never delete that character, is that so much to ask for, god i wish i knew when these events happen so that i can at least have a chance at 1...after all, whats better then having an item that only you will posess on that server, without anyone else ever having a chance, unless someone transfers with it or something.
I got the Ironwood Battlestaff

Here is a list of the relevent grumblings from the guards and such about the next war:

You say, 'Hail, Guard Lithomin'
Guard Lithomin says 'This outpost plays host to the survivors of Lanys' attack on Firiona Vie. Here we gather our strength, waiting for the day when we retake our fair city.'

You say, 'Hail, Guard Meyana'
Guard Meyana says 'I long to drive my sword deep into the heart of the Dragoon occupying Firiona Vie!'

You say, 'Hail, Guard Legolin'
Guard Legolin says 'Beware of venturing too close to the city. Since the fall, the place is crawling with Dragoon and cliff golems.'

I hailed all the NPC's currently at the outpost and the only one that was not listed in the bestiary was:
You say, 'Hail, Vorla Diensk'
Voria Diensk doesn't appear to want to speak with you.
She conned indifferent and is lvl 55. Location is -442, -3312
Great event + poor judgement = ok event
# Feb 03 2005 at 4:16 PM Rating: Decent
Sadly this occurred when most guilds on Sol Ro server were raiding. I have been working on this all week and was in Uqua when it began grrrr kinda screwy timing considering some of the mobs levels. After Uqua we hauled butt to DL and killed a couple horsemen but someone trained us on one and we had to zone to KC. We zoned back just in time to catch some stupid Bard looting the chain bracer and tunic (both nodrop and non bard useable) so we lost them. Also the dracholich was pathing underground so we were unable to aggro him for pull thereby keeping him from being killed :{.There has also been a lot of people sneaking around ninja looting everything attuneable they can. SoE really dropped the ball on not making it all nodrop they created a ninjafest for plat farmers! All in all A GREAT event too bad the lack of foresight caused a lot of ill will and petitions :\

I so agree .. super bad timing on SoE on this. It could have been a super event with guilds joining one side or the other but they kicked it off when most guilds where on raids. Major Ball drop on their part.

This, of course, is of the assumption that guilds should be the target audience of this. My characters aren't guilded and the overall lack of high-end chars demolishing everything made it a lot better for those who did show up. A lot of cooperation made it a good event, especially the sheer multitude of rezzes the clerics were performing. It was a good time and my shammy got some nice drops.

P.S. On Lanys.

So you're saying a level 75 Dracholiche was not targeted at raiding guilds? HaHaHaHaHaHa The high level mobs were most definately targeted for them there was something for everyone so it indeed was bad timing period. The fact that it was pathing underground really sucked too considering noone had a chance to get the artifact items on our server. I do like the suggestion above that guilds could have joined the armies and made it a major war that would have been killer. I might also add that guilded people are by far the majority it is part of the makeup of eq. I am sorry you are not guilded I did 60 to 65 unguilded and got myself ep flagged through pickup raids I know how hard it can be but please don't insinuate that this event was targeted for a very small minority of the players that is to suggest everyone st SoE is a complete idiot with no sense of business.

I didn't mean to insinuate that guilded people shouldn't have been able to join in the fun, but to go as far as scheduling it ahead of time and making sure all the uber guilds had ample warning so they could dominate the event is just plain stupid. Like someone else said, if the guilds that were raiding became interested in the event after they already began, why not just shift the raid away from the regularly scheduled program and head to DL? Hell, you would already have the raid setup, which would've put you several steps ahead of the chaotic masses, myself included. :) Obviously, the dragon and the horsemen were targeted towards high levels, but people were doing pickup raids on Lanys, and had a good time of killing the horses. Not sure if they got the dragon or not.

Yeah, while I think the chaotic masses on Tunare could have used a bit more organization especially after the horsemen showed up, it was still a blast. Truthfully though, considering the horses and increased charges of the evils were supposed to, and did, mark the beginning of the evil routing the goods out of DL, it was fun and made sense considering most armies are a jumbled mess when they are being routed. Though after being dead when the fall back to FV order came made getting my 3 corpes on one character and 2 on another that were in DL kind of interesting. A group from one of the top end guilds happened to be doing a CR for a friend of theirs and I got all my rezes barely hehe. Then stayed to take out one of the horsemen. We tried the dracoliche but even as uber as they were he was too much for just our one group. 2 of us were dead before the slower even had a chance to think of casting the spell. It was fun, after that I hooked up with the remaining good's guarding FV, hoping for one of the items to drop that I'd missed earlier but alas 90% of the drops were the int caster 1hb.

As for the timing and the whiney raiders complaining about it. I think it's just stupid for them to use that they were raiding when it happened as an excuse. There were multiple broadcasts by Brenlo stating that something was going to happen in DL HOURS (read 4-5 hours before it started) ahead of the priliminary start of the event. If they and their guild could have went to the event and raided stuff later or the next day, but they CHOSE to raid their previously planned and static raid targets instead of participating. And like others have said just because their was a few mobs that were targeted more towards the higher end game guilds than the general populace doesn't make the whole event just targeted at the high end guilds. I know the high end group I took down that dark horseman with was kind of disappointed in the drops.

Currently, evil forces hold Firiona Vie (the outpost).

A large number of named Dragoons (blue to 53) and I think 5 'a cliff golem' (red to 53) have taken over... the merchants seemed to have either evacuated, or been killed. The countryside is the same as it was, only the outpost is affected. I did see one guard fighting a cliff golem... it may be that they reappear and are immediately set upon.

I have not found the missing merchants... they are not in the Lake of Ill Omen, nor the Dreadlands.

Ok well Feb 2nd "The War" started for those who missed it you missed a crazy war. Now I loged before the end of it but it started off with a server wide message saying that things were stirring in DL and war has started. Thus me and my friends headed over there to see what was up. Losts more warriors were on both the evil and good side of the stage. After about 2 hours of the same text being said over and over again Lanys summoned a huge dragon called Hatesfury Dracolich (spelling?) who was red to lvl 70 and also some Death Riders or Death Nights somthing along those lines, as well as alot more for her army. Then all of that evil side started marching forward. Did not take long after that for the good side and Al'Kabor and his men to fall. After that Lanys and Hatesfury as well as Lanys's army ZONED!! yes they zoned into FV then wave by wave they rushed at the city of FV where Lanys went to kill FV herself (pretty sure on that) Massive armys from the good side were perma rooted at the bridge of FV and from what I saw the waves never got through. Lanys stood on a hill north of FV just waiting and Hatesfury roamed around the DL zoneline in the caves for a bit. Well being a troll whos agonostic and KOS on both sides there was not much I could do so after that I left. If somone wants to pick up from there that would be great.

The range item, Bright Orb of Authority, drops off random trash army mobs (evil). Magic/Lore/no drop STA +14 CHA +11 WIS/INT +12 AGI +13 120hp/mana/endurance 10svF 12svD 15svP Req lvl 60
Regeneration:+4 Damage Shield: +4 wt 1.0 MEDIUM
All/All Very common had 5 drop in 5 hours this morning.

Named evil mob dropped this: Cape of the Commander
Back slot Magic/Lore/nodrop AC +12 STR +11 STA +14 WIS/INT +13 AGI +12 120hp/mana/end 15svD 12svC
10svM Req lvl 60 Attack +20 Mana regen +2 wt 1.3
SMALL All/All Dropped off eveil named mob, had 3 although we dropped that mob 7-8 times and other times nothing dropped.

Wand of Turmoil: Primary 1hb Macig/lore/attuneable
15/20 dmg/delay AC +5 STA +9 CHA +10 WIS/INT +11 AGI +8 75hp 80mana 10svF/D/M Req lvl 55
CLE/DRU/SHM/NEC/WIZ/MAG/ENC /All Procs Rend (combat, 404-784!) Forgot the wt and size sorry. This is rare and dropped once off a named dorf, although I saw one in PoK before I started typing this.

Raw Gem of Health: augmentation type 7,8 works on all slots +45hp Req lvl 60 all/all very common, had 4 drop. Magic/lore/nodrop (not equippable in charm slot)

Diamond Shard of Unity: not an augment atm!!! Magic/lore/nodrop Equippable in all slots minus charm +45mana/endurance. Also common army trash. ATM this is not an augment. I tried to augment it hoping there was a typo but to no avail. It can be equipped, however. Hopefully that changes 'cos a 45mana/endurance item is worthless at lvl 60 to solely occupy any slot. Perhaps it will be an augment or maybe a quest item.
There were many more drops but I've not the time to list all of them, only what my necro looted. These items were looted BEFORE the war commenced this evening. AS I type, Lanys and her minions ALREADY have penetrated Al 'kabor's defense and were marching in FV, yes FV! Lotta deaths but this has been one heckuva fun event. Gotta get back to the battle, good luck and happy hunting!

Oh, the Lanys group are on VS faction. My 61 Necro is KOS to both FV and VS, and was KOS to both parties. Ended up logging onto a 49 berserker.

Interesting notes here. You can run from one to another, pulling a bunch to the other side. As long as you get a hit in, you will get the exp for the pull(one fella was getting about 4 pct per pull, took some work), but the other army does the work for you.

Also, if you kill the scouts and turn in pieces(a similar quest for each side), you will get a decent item, similar to the dropped stuff. Talk to the named at each Army camp.

That won't last for long once someone from SOE trolls this thread. By their definitions, it's an exploit, and they'll find some way to get rid of it unless they end the event and remove the NPC's first. The same sort of thing used to be possible in the original Plane of Mischief, in the theater where the play happens- there was an NPC you could "set up" in a position so that it would hammer everything in the room and you wound up getting the XP. But, with the release of DoN so close, they may very well terminate the special NPC's in Dreadlands shortly anyway rather than coding a fix.
