You say, 'Hail, Furtog Ogrebane'

Furtog Ogrebane says 'Hail, mighty ______! Welcome to Stormguard Hall. I am Captain Furtog Ogrebane, only surviving descendant of the legendary Trondle Ogrebane, slayer of the [Mudtoes]. If you wish to serve the grand city of Kaladim, I urge you to speak with any of the trainers. Good day.'

You say, 'Who are the Mudtoes?'

Furtog Ogrebane says 'The Mudtoes were a small but mighty clan of ogres. My great father [Trondle] destroyed them. I have heard disturbing rumors of one Mudtoe surviving. Would you mind [searching for the Mudtoes] or have you other duties to perform?'

You say, 'Trondle?'

Furtog Ogrebane says 'Trondle was my great father and slayer of the Mudtoes. He was killed by those vile Crushbone orcs. If you truly wish to help Kaladim remain safe, speak with trainer Canloe Nusback. Say that you are ready to serve Kaladim.'

You say, 'I will go searching for the Mudtoes.'

Furtog Ogrebane says 'I have heard persistent rumors of two Mudtoe ogres who survived the slaughter. Go to the port of Butcherblock. Those dock hands must have heard of the name [Mudtoe]. Bring me the remaining heads of the Mudtoes!! I want all the Mudtoes dead!! Do not return until you have them both!!'

Find Glorin Binfurr at the end of the docks in Butcherblock.

Your Location is 1360.08, 3263.28, 11.22

Glorin Binfurr regards you indifferently -- You could probably win this fight.

You say, 'Hail, Glorin Binfurr'

Glorin Binfurr says 'Pleasure to meet you. Keep your eye out for the ship. You don't want to miss it.'

You say, 'What of the Mudtoes?'

Glorin Binfurr says 'Mudtoes!! I have heard tales of that foul clan of ogres. A few of the passengers aboard the ships have claimed to have seen one of them, off and on, amongst pirates in the Ocean of Tears!!'

The two remaining Mudtoes, Boog and Goob, are in the Ocean of Tears. You will find one named Boog Mudtoe on Seafury Island right across from Sister Isle.

Your Location is 1912.28, -3030.57, -178.88

This quest still works in 2018, but the Ogre War Maul is only really useful during the early stages of a progression server. It becomes obsolete quickly once expansions start opening up. The damage/delay ratio is better than Bloodforge Hammer, BUT Ogre War Maul does not have magic tag so you won't be able to hit magic only mobs with it. That's good to keep in mind if you're looking for something to let you kill wisps faster or the ghouls in Unrest. You'll have to look elsewhere if you need a magic weapon.

This quest still works as of 11/9/2007. I picked up the heads in the revamped OOT while picking up mage items and was bound in BB so I figured why not.

Both Mudtoes can be found on the cyclops island, one in a stone tower near the pirate captain and and the other on a ledge below the gnome pirate. they both dropped their heads and 'a tattered note' which read "HELLO <other brother's name>. COME VISIT YER BROTHER'S ISLAND. ME CLOSE BY YOU. LONG LIVE MUDTOES. <name> MUDTOE"- I assume this is a hold over from when they spawned on separate islands so people knew to look nearby.

I turned them in to get an ogre war maul, 12 gold and silver, positive faction with Storm Guard, Kazon Stormhammer, Miners Guild 249, and Merchants of Kaladim, and a negative hit to Craknek Warriors.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 28 2001 at 7:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is funny, Just got the AC camp in OOT when this little green bugger poped. After looking it up here I had a good laugh, this quest is so pointless. The cyclops spawns are 40ish with this punk mudtoe spawning every now and again. If you want the hammer Kill the ogre guard in Najena. (not that this weapon is any good... Verant made few worthwhile quests, this is not one of them.

It raises kaladim merchant faction ;)

This makes it a VERY worthwhile quest for some other quests, such as part of the druid epic.

In case you have not thought of it, a druid can bind nearby while someone is doing the ac. They can then pop in when the ogre dies (at which point his brother will always be up over by the stonehenge thing on pirate island), get both heads then port to butcher, egress to just in front of kaladim, run in and do the quest and gate back to near the AC spawn - repeat, while sowing' buffing the people there (who will be more than happy to help)

It was an even better quest BEFORE jboots were made a quest. Back then a druid could kill both mudtoes, port to butcher (no egress though, so had to hoof it from port) do the quest then gate back. The mudtoes were up about every 12 minutes and were the only things spawning at that spawn point then (well boog was, with his brother still over at the stonehenge thing) Besides the XP and faction, the maul sold to a merchant for I think 5 plat.

After doing the quest with my shaman on solusek, it was one of the reasons why I chose a druid on tribunal (figured that once level 19 I could do this quest like mad.) Before I ever had a chance to, they nerfed me by making jboots a quest which in turn changed that spot to having several possible spawns and always being camped. Before the change, no one ever killed those ogres or knew what their heads were for.

My 56 druid still does this quest some while raising other factions in OOT, such as elf ones by doing the bracer of erolsi and pirate earring quest. I've gone from threaten to kaladim merchants up to indiff now.

Some quests are not just about the loot.

If you want to raise Kaladim merchant faction, there's a far easier way to do it. Just hand in a bunch of crushbone belts and/or shoulderpads to Canloe Nusback (in Kaladim, in the warrior guild). Raises all of Kaladim except for the clerics and pallys. Sure, you'll never get an ogre war maul for it, but if faction's all you're after, CB belts and shoulderpads are the way to go, far simpler and more efficient than going all the way out to Ocean of Tears.

I'm in the process of doing this now myself, to get high enough merchant/rogue faction to shop and bank there, as well as pick the mushrooms in Greybloom Farms without needing a mule, so I can brew the great resist drink, Kaladim Constitutional. I am already maxed faction (kindly's the best an iksar monk can do) with the warriors, so I just dodge the bard to turn in as many belts as I can carry at a time. Nice side effect is I'm not KOS to the Kelethin guards anymore, from all the orcs I killed.

Mudtoe Quest

Earned most of level 22 thanks to these two Ogres, so I thought I'd share my experiences.

Boog spawns on the island where the Ancient Cyclops spawns. AC is almost always camped, and Boog is an annoyance so usually has a very short life expectancy. Ask politely and whoever is camping the AC will usually let you loot the head.

That leaves Goob, a Shaman who likes to cast Root a lot. With the Endures up, poison and disease rarely got through, but his cold-based damage spell got me every time.

Once you have both heads, give them to Furtog Ogrebane at the Warrior guild in Kaladim for XP and an Ogre War Maul if your faction is good enough. Faction with Clurg goes down, faction with Dwarves goes up as does faction with Troll Shadowknights. Last time I checked, the Ogre War Maul was worth about 20-30pp, however this quest is worth it for the XP alone - I was getting nearly half a bubble for each pair of heads at level 22.

Incidentally, Goob spawns on the same island as Dixl Drool and Captain Surestout who drops the Bracer of Erollisi. These two give reasonable XP, and the Bracer sells for between 30-40pp. Useful way to spend your time waiting for Goob to spawn. Faction with Pirates of Gunthak goes down and they sometimes drop an earring which can be handed to one of the Sisters of Erollisi on their island. Both earring and Bracer are Lore.

Happy hunting...

I recieved Ogre War Maul as a reward for completing Bounty Hunter quest in High Keep. I have done this quest 3 times. The other 2 items I recieved were a bronze weapon and a Dwarven Axe.
Not bad for XP

Just wanted to drop a note that this quest is a decent XP quest. If I remember correctly, I got a bit under half a bubble of XP at 29th (Or so?) doing it.
