This quest begins with Brother Qwinn in South Karana.

You say, 'Hail, Brother Qwinn'

Brother Qwinn says 'In the name of the [Brotherhood of the Lost Circle], I greet you.'

You say, 'What about the Brotherhood of the Lost Circle?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The [monks of the Whistling Fist] are called the Lost Circle by others. We are an ancient league of monks, long forgotten and nearly extinct. Within this realm, there are only two. [Brother Zephyl] and myself. We seek the items stolen from us. I seek the [Code of Zan Fi].'

You say, 'What Monks of the Whistling Fist?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The monks of the Whistling fist were forged from the vision of the great master, Zan Fi. When the Combine Empire reigned supreme, a single bard grew to learn the ways of the monk. This bard was Zan Fi. The brotherhood was all but destroyed in the times that followed. Now only a few remain to carry on Zan Fi's legacy.'

You say, 'Who is Brother Zephyl?'

Brother Qwinn says 'Brother Zephyl is searching for one who can return the [idol of Zan Fi]. I believe he is somewhere in the vicinity of the Rathe Mountains.'

You say, 'What is the Code of Zan Fi?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The tome called the Code of the Whistling Fist has been stolen from me. It contains many secrets pertaining to our brotherhood. Thankfully, it is magically locked and only a Zan Fi master could unlock it. I require a monk to retrieve it. Would you be an [interested monk]?'

You say, 'I am an interested monk'

Brother Qwinn says 'Then venture into the depths beyond the great Solusek Mining Company. There, living among the kobolds, will be Targin the Rock. Get the book from him, then return here and wait for my reappearance. When we meet again, you shall hand me the book and a purple headband earned from the Silent Fist clan. Do so and you shall be closer to joining the brotherhood.'

You say, 'What about the idol of Zan Fi?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The idol of Zan Fi is a totem that is sacred to our brotherhood. I cannot share its secrets, but I can tell you that [Brother Zephyl] will offer to you a reward for its return..'

The code of Zan Fi is dropped by Targin the Rock, a rare spawn in the throne room of Nagafen's Lair (Solusek B). Bring him the Code and a Purple Silent Fist Headband.

Brother Qwinn says 'We had an agreement. The proof of a skilled monk, the purple headband, and the Code of the Whistling Fist.'

Brother Qwinn says 'We thank you for the return of the Code of the Whistling Fist. Take this sewing needle. You shall find it useful should you aid [Brother Zephyl] in his quest. His item, the needle, a swatch of shadow silk and a scroll containing Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. Into a sewing kit they will be going. And into the brotherhood will you. I hope you do not wish me to [return the headband]..'
You gain experience!!

You receive a special needle.

You say, 'Return the headband?'

Brother Qwinn says 'Then you will return that which was earned or the robe.'

Brother Zephyl is found in the Rathe Mountains...

You say, 'Hail, Brother Zephyl'

Brother Zephyl says 'Greetings. I am one with the [Lost Circle]. You have found me. What is it you desire?'

You say, 'What about the Lost Circle?'

Brother Zephyl says 'The [monks of the Whistling Fist] are called the Lost Circle by others. We are an ancient league of monks. Long forgotten and few yet remain. Within this realm there are only two. [Brother Qwinn] and I. We seek the items stolen from us. I seek the [idol of Zan Fi].'
[
You say, 'What is the Idol of Zan Fi?'

Brother Zephyl says 'The idol of Zan Fi is a totem that is sacred to our brotherhood. I cannot share its secrets, but I can offer to you a reward for its return. Are you an [interested monk]?'

You say, 'I am an interested monk'

Brother Zephyl says 'Then venture to the lands of evil. The swamps of the trolls and ogres. There, seek out a monk called Raster. He has the idol. You will return here and wait for my reappearance. When we meet again, you shall hand me the idol and a red sash earned from the Ashen Order. Do so and you shall be closer to joining the brotherhood.'

The Idol is in possession of Brother Raster, who spawns in the Mino Elders room in Lower Guk. Bring Zephyl the Idol along with a red sash.

Brother Zephyl says 'We had an agreement. The proof of a skilled monk, the red sash, and the idol of Zan Fi.'

Brother Zephyl says 'We thank you for the return of the idol of Zan Fi. Take this rare robe pattern. You shall find it useful should you aid [Brother Qwinn] in his quest. His item, the rare robe pattern, a swatch of shadow silk and a scroll containing Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. Into a sewing kit they will be going. And into the brotherhood will you. I hope you do not wish me to [return the sash].'

You gain experience!!

You receive a special tailoring pattern.

You say, 'Can you return the sash?'

Brother Zephyl says 'Very well. Give to me that which you have been rewarded or the robe, if you have a tailored one.'

Combine the pattern and needle in a sewing kit with a swatch of shadow silk (tailored) and a Scroll of Jonathans Whistling Warsong (bought from the Bard's Guild). This produces the Robe of the Lost Circle.

As of June 2022 everything for this can be MQ'd with the brothers at level 1. My monk on Yelinak (in classic right now) just made the robe at level 1.

Had the idol and book on my druid. Collected (or bought) all the headband and sash quest pieces with my mage. Made newb monks in freeport and qeynos and parcelled everything to them for the turn ins.

Gave the purple headband and red sash to my level 1 monk. Took him and the druid to SK, Qwinn was up, went through quest text, turned in idol with the druid and then headband with the monk, got the needle. Went to rathe and had to kill PHs for about an hour before Bro Z spawned. Went through quest text with him, handed in book with the druid, then sash with the monk, got the robe pattern. Bought 400 mandrake root from an alchemy supplier and got monk tailoring up to like 50 and made the shadow silk. Combined all the pieces and bam, RotLC on a level 1 monk. Stylin.

edit- forgot to ungroup the druid and monk to see how much exp it would give at level 1 :(

Timer info on camps (TLP)

Raster - ~25:13
Targin - ~19:27
The standard 7am despawn, 8am respawn (game time) applies to these.

Pawbuster - ~21:40
Betrayer - varies? ~13:50-15:11
Chardok Bridge Keeper - ~24:00
No idea why, but the Betrayer timer seemed to increase in small increments. Started off at 13:50ish, ended up closer to 15:10 after 4 hours of killing PHs; had to update my spreadsheet a few times for this one.

Brother Qwinn drops the Robe of the Lost Circle as well, not every time, but I got mine from him while trying to get Ghanex Drah. Made it nice, since now I don't have to finish the Red or Purple Headband quest. I already had the Red Sash. Don't need it now either. lol

Camped Raster for about 16 hours yesterday with my mage camping brother z at the same time. Got about 6 unkempt, 8 boot dudes and 2 brother z's no robe on either one. Raster never showed either. At 3 am i went to bed. Logged back in this morning to camp raster and he never spawned. After another hour in rathe i got a boot dude and a brother z with a visable robe. Killed him and there it was. So if anyone is doubting the brothers ability to drop still just keep at it, dropped on Tunare this morning at 10:30 am eastern off Brother Z.

P.S i camped brother z standing on the small hill just after the big rock north of feerott zone in, just before that small cubby with those 2 Sphinx. His PH seemed to be mainly "a drake" but i did see a few Orc priests and skeletons that followed the same path that the drake PH.

Killed Qwinn my first try with a 65 monk and healer merc and he had the robe. Hardest part was tracking him down without a tracker. Took about a half hour total. From reading other people's posts I guess I am pretty lucky.

Doesn't this quest begin with Bro Balatin?

Quote:
You say, 'I follow the brotherhood of the Lost Circle.'

Brother Balatin says 'Then we are one. The rebirth of our Circle shall start with you. I have waited decades for your arrival. Seek the living brothers within Tunaria. When you have earned your garb, you will be [ready for the true drape].'

Seek the living brothers within Tunaria is the clue to them to get the "Lost Circle garb"

Not really.

This quest existed in original EQ. The Robe of the Lost Circle was just a nice item that monks could earn.

The robe quest from Brother Balatin and the subsequent epic quest were not added until the first expansion, Kunark. They made Balatin give a hint to the Robe of the Lost Circle so people could figure out what it was that he wanted.

The needle referred to in..."and you will get a special needle", after doing the headbands, is called "Needle of the Void", and has a graphic like a Chipped Bone Rod.

Was kinda surprised it doesn't appear in the database here, but here's a link to it on EQTrader - http://www.eqtraders.com/search/reverse_recipe_search.php?item=13123&menustr=035000000000

I killed Brother Zephyl the other day. He dropped the Robe for me first time around. Got my monks epic in a day. Went back to kill Brother Zephyl in Rathe Mountains, just to get the robe again. This time i have killed him a total of (5 times), and Brother Quinn(2 times) in Southern Karana... both of them are dropping Cloth Tunic and headband only. Both of them max hit for 356points.

New info:Killed Brother Zephyl again this morning. He dropped the Robe of Lost Circles again. This time i noticed that the First Brother Zephyl that i killed that morning before at around 2:30Am, dropped the robe also. So both times i killed him at around 2:30Am he dropped robe....but all the other times that i killed him, he dropped headband, torn cloth tunic, and sometimes human blood.

Oh btw....was kinda strange, while tanking him with my Ranger i saw Brother Zephyl wearing a red robe.....but on my Cleric, he wasnt. That happened both times i killed him, when he dropped the ROLC.

Chars Used: 70 Ranger max tracking and logged my 70 Cleric when Brother Zephyl respawned.

Location of camp: -548.17, 746.66, 16.30(Brother Zephyl, Rathe Mountains) and Brother Qwinn was wondering around South Karana.

Mobs killed: A drake (lvl 25ish), Hasten Bootstrutter (lvl 40), Maldyn the Unkempt (lvl 35ish), Brother Zephyl (lvl 61)

Personal Opinion: Kill Brothers until you get Robe of Lost Circles. Really no points in doing Sub quest for it. Seems some people have put some serious hours into that quest.

As far as the pipes. I camped Karnors for 30mins and got pipe..camped Chardok with my girlfriend and killed a Iksar Betrayer on second spawn..

I went back to get pipes again right after i got Celestial Fist. Same exact thing happen to me ..this time i waited a little longer for Karnors (Pawduster) to spawn, both times i seen him spawn in Warlords room, he spawned 3rd mob from the door.

Well i hope this information will help the next guy that kills either brother.

As for your whole time you killed him thing, that's just pure coincidence.

As for being able to see him in the Robe. Here's how that works. If you are in the zone when one of the Brother's spawn with the Robe on and they don't have the tunic (not completely sure if them having the tunic changes it or not), then you will see them wearing the RotLC. However if you are not in the zone when they spawn, the will look like your average monk GM whether they have the Robe to drop or not.

There are also people who have put just as many hours on average trying to camp the brother's to get them to drop the Robe, it is a very rare drop, so I would consider yourself very lucky getting it as many times as you have.

Not a camper
# Feb 26 2005 at 1:31 PM Rating: Decent
I've always found it easier and faster to just kill one of the brothers who drop this. The one in Mnt Rathe near Lake Rathe drops it for me everytime... U can usually find someone who will help. A monk with a healer can often win but two 65's (especially if ones a healer) will own him easily. If ya ever need on Thox Pal look up gosok and i'll help ya.

((Sure you can camp the boys the old fashion way, but as someone who's done 3 monks between 2 servers, this way leaves you much saner))

Just a normal sewing kit. Also if your tailoring isn't high, just ask someone else to do it. There is usually always someone in PoK willing. It will save you some headaches.
Spawn Cycles

This has been posted in other threads, but seems to be accurate for these spawns...

...all listed in Game Time...

This is the spawn cycle I used for Raster:
4AM - Spawn...let this PH de-spawn
7AM - De-spawn
8AM - Spawn...Kill the PH
6PM - Spawn...Kill the PH
-repeat

This is the spawn cycle I used for Targin:
4AM - Spawn...let this PH de-spawn
7AM - De-spawn
8AM - Spawn...Kill the PH
1PM - Spawn...Kill the PH
6PM - Spawn...Kill the PH
11PM - Spawn...Kill the PH
-repeat

I got Targin after the second game day of this pattern! It allows the most re-spawns of the 'a greater kobold' per game day.
But...the last 4AM spawn did not pop before Targin popped at 8AM.
I'm not sure if this was a glitch or if I made a mistake - can someone try this and verify?
Raster of Guk
# Aug 03 2004 at 12:45 PM Rating: Default
hey all! Well i just stopped camping raster of guk. I was at his camp for 72 straight hours or so, and just as i was about to leave to go to work he poped. I didnt see any rhyme or reason to his camp. After 72 hours i was trying to look for anything that might give me a clue as to when he would pop. Alas there was none. The only word of advise i can give to you .. is have something other than EQ to do while you camp this guy. Do some laundry, read a book, watch a movie, clean the house... play a game on your PS2 or something. Do NOT camp this guy straight.. you will go insane.

Thank you for all the people in Lguk that kept me sane.

Oh one more peice of advise.. doing this camp when all the monsters are green is even more insane than just camping it. If you can, do this camp when you get exp. If you are already past the point of getting exp... see if you have a toon that could get exp there. After the second day of camping him with my 55th level monk, i brough my 48th level SK down there and Owned the camp. In the process i made a bit of coin and was able to level to 49 =)

Ok well that is my experience and some words of advise. Good luck to all those that try this camp.

Ps if you are there for long try sending in a /feedback or /bug , Personally i think he is way to rare of a spawn, i can understand a challenge, but mindless camping of a particiular PH for hours, weeks, months, years.. just isnt fun nor challenging. It is a huge waste of time. They need to make Raster a Triggered spawn, or even a static spawn, but you need to do a subquest to target him or something. Kinda like the monk bracer quests.

Anyway long post ... sorry, if you are camping raster now, my thoughts are with you and i wish you the best of luck. Stick in there, he will spawn eventually. As of 12pm est on the BB server 8/3/04 he is not broken, even though you may think so after 72 hours =)

Spent 13 hours camping raster...5 1/2 one day, 7 1/2 the next, finally nailed that punk. He wasn't tough at 49, but after waiting so long, my senses were a little off, so he took me down 10% before having his squirmy little **** kicked.

He runs around Rathe Mountains near where the HGs are. He has a drake and Hasten as his PH. Make sure you're sowed if you are going after him...if you think Hasten is fast, you havent seen anything until you see Zephyl zip off into the horizon!

Anyone with PoP can get the spell scrolls in the Great Library on the Plane of Knowledge.

When you go into the library, go down to the first level. Buy "Song: Johnathan's Whistling Warsong" from Minstrel Silnon (the half-elf). Cost me just under 4p.

Go down to the basement and buy "Spell: Gather Shadows" from Heretic Edalith (the gnome.) Cost me under 5p. Be aware there are two basement staircases, one for necros and one for shadow knights. If you see armored ogres you're in the wrong basement.

Anyone have any idea if there's any level restrictions on this quest? Usually only the epic itself has the level requirement, but I'd hate to waste time and camping ;)
