This quest begins with Brother Qwinn in South Karana.

You say, 'Hail, Brother Qwinn'

Brother Qwinn says 'In the name of the [Brotherhood of the Lost Circle], I greet you.'

You say, 'What about the Brotherhood of the Lost Circle?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The [monks of the Whistling Fist] are called the Lost Circle by others. We are an ancient league of monks, long forgotten and nearly extinct. Within this realm, there are only two. [Brother Zephyl] and myself. We seek the items stolen from us. I seek the [Code of Zan Fi].'

You say, 'What Monks of the Whistling Fist?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The monks of the Whistling fist were forged from the vision of the great master, Zan Fi. When the Combine Empire reigned supreme, a single bard grew to learn the ways of the monk. This bard was Zan Fi. The brotherhood was all but destroyed in the times that followed. Now only a few remain to carry on Zan Fi's legacy.'

You say, 'Who is Brother Zephyl?'

Brother Qwinn says 'Brother Zephyl is searching for one who can return the [idol of Zan Fi]. I believe he is somewhere in the vicinity of the Rathe Mountains.'

You say, 'What is the Code of Zan Fi?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The tome called the Code of the Whistling Fist has been stolen from me. It contains many secrets pertaining to our brotherhood. Thankfully, it is magically locked and only a Zan Fi master could unlock it. I require a monk to retrieve it. Would you be an [interested monk]?'

You say, 'I am an interested monk'

Brother Qwinn says 'Then venture into the depths beyond the great Solusek Mining Company. There, living among the kobolds, will be Targin the Rock. Get the book from him, then return here and wait for my reappearance. When we meet again, you shall hand me the book and a purple headband earned from the Silent Fist clan. Do so and you shall be closer to joining the brotherhood.'

You say, 'What about the idol of Zan Fi?'

Brother Qwinn says 'The idol of Zan Fi is a totem that is sacred to our brotherhood. I cannot share its secrets, but I can tell you that [Brother Zephyl] will offer to you a reward for its return..'

The code of Zan Fi is dropped by Targin the Rock, a rare spawn in the throne room of Nagafen's Lair (Solusek B). Bring him the Code and a Purple Silent Fist Headband.

Brother Qwinn says 'We had an agreement. The proof of a skilled monk, the purple headband, and the Code of the Whistling Fist.'

Brother Qwinn says 'We thank you for the return of the Code of the Whistling Fist. Take this sewing needle. You shall find it useful should you aid [Brother Zephyl] in his quest. His item, the needle, a swatch of shadow silk and a scroll containing Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. Into a sewing kit they will be going. And into the brotherhood will you. I hope you do not wish me to [return the headband]..'
You gain experience!!

You receive a special needle.

You say, 'Return the headband?'

Brother Qwinn says 'Then you will return that which was earned or the robe.'

Brother Zephyl is found in the Rathe Mountains...

You say, 'Hail, Brother Zephyl'

Brother Zephyl says 'Greetings. I am one with the [Lost Circle]. You have found me. What is it you desire?'

You say, 'What about the Lost Circle?'

Brother Zephyl says 'The [monks of the Whistling Fist] are called the Lost Circle by others. We are an ancient league of monks. Long forgotten and few yet remain. Within this realm there are only two. [Brother Qwinn] and I. We seek the items stolen from us. I seek the [idol of Zan Fi].'
[
You say, 'What is the Idol of Zan Fi?'

Brother Zephyl says 'The idol of Zan Fi is a totem that is sacred to our brotherhood. I cannot share its secrets, but I can offer to you a reward for its return. Are you an [interested monk]?'

You say, 'I am an interested monk'

Brother Zephyl says 'Then venture to the lands of evil. The swamps of the trolls and ogres. There, seek out a monk called Raster. He has the idol. You will return here and wait for my reappearance. When we meet again, you shall hand me the idol and a red sash earned from the Ashen Order. Do so and you shall be closer to joining the brotherhood.'

The Idol is in possession of Brother Raster, who spawns in the Mino Elders room in Lower Guk. Bring Zephyl the Idol along with a red sash.

Brother Zephyl says 'We had an agreement. The proof of a skilled monk, the red sash, and the idol of Zan Fi.'

Brother Zephyl says 'We thank you for the return of the idol of Zan Fi. Take this rare robe pattern. You shall find it useful should you aid [Brother Qwinn] in his quest. His item, the rare robe pattern, a swatch of shadow silk and a scroll containing Jonathan's Whistling Warsong. Into a sewing kit they will be going. And into the brotherhood will you. I hope you do not wish me to [return the sash].'

You gain experience!!

You receive a special tailoring pattern.

You say, 'Can you return the sash?'

Brother Zephyl says 'Very well. Give to me that which you have been rewarded or the robe, if you have a tailored one.'

Combine the pattern and needle in a sewing kit with a swatch of shadow silk (tailored) and a Scroll of Jonathans Whistling Warsong (bought from the Bard's Guild). This produces the Robe of the Lost Circle.

I heard that Jonathan's Whistling Warsong wasn't part of this quets, but a part of the Robe of the Whistling Fists quest. DO I need the scroll to complete it? Is the info about the quest correct?
RE: Song Scroll
# Nov 15 2000 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
The song was implemented into the quest because this robe is one of the 3 elements required to make the Robe of the Whistling Fists. THAT robe, has a right-clickable Haste effect of Jonathan's Whistling Warsong, which adds 40% haste I believe. The greatest looking monk robe in the game imo

Been trying for over a week now to catch brother qwinn in SK on E'Ci to turn in my code and headband for the needle. its the only damn item i need now to construct my robe and Qwinn is MIA all the damn time. Anyone know a 'sure-fire' way to get him to pop??? Ive killed Sentry Alechin countless times and Qwinn just never seems to show.

You might want to look around the KFC area. I notice that he walk there on occasion. Or get a ranger.
No drop
# Oct 08 2000 at 9:17 PM Rating: Default
Key question here. Are the idol and code of zan fi no drop? I've seen iksar monks as low as 25 walking around in this robe, and have never seen this question raised before.

Thanks
RE: No drop
# Oct 11 2000 at 9:28 AM Rating: Default
Yes the Idol and Code are no drop... if u see iksar monks as low as 25 running around with a robe: 1) The player either looted the robe from Zephyl who was killed by a mess of high level players 2) Or was aided by a highlevel player to camp Rastar of Guk and Targin the Rock

Since when can you loot the robe? i don't think Zephyl drops that..

Do you need a skill in tailoring to combine the needle, tailoring pattern, shadow silk, and the whistling warsong?

i wondered the same thing so i asked someone with the robe already he said you don't need any skill to cmbine the items for the robe

I hope you are absolutley sure because I am almost done with the quest and my tailoring skill is 0.....maybe ill put one point into it just to be safe.

I have read online that you have to have at least a skill of like 25, not su re though. If i were you I would at least work it up to 30 because this is a long quest and I would really pissed if I had to start it over... Wouldnt you?

Well, thankfully, now it's not an issue anymore thanks to Verant removing the tailoring skill check for the final combine, but if memory serves the check was upper 80's.
Iksar Monk?
# Oct 01 2000 at 1:54 AM Rating: Decent
Would this quest be doable by an iksar monk (lev 45 currently, but got friends)? If yes, how can I get the required factions to obtain the quest and headbands?
RE: Iksar Monk?
# Feb 06 2001 at 9:57 AM Rating: Default
I have seen the purple headband and red sash auctioned before, you could always just buy them.
RE: Iksar Monk?
# Oct 08 2000 at 6:43 PM Rating: Default
the monk faction ya need should be from killin gnolls in black burrow
RE: Iksar Monk?
# Nov 02 2000 at 3:41 PM Rating: Good
Don't bother with faction, it takes to much time.

Simply make a level 1 monk in Qyenos for headbands and one in Freeport for sashes
Then use your level 45 to gather the required items, pass them to you level 1s, hand in the stuff and recieve the headbands/sashs

Note, you'll need to start with the first quests and work your way up to the purple headband and red sash but that isn't to difficult.

Hmmmmm....am I missing something here? The drops from Targin and Raster are both no-drop, and I assume Iksar are KOS to both Bro. Quinn and Bro. Zehpyl. So how can an Iksar monk turn in the quest items even if he has the headband/sash???
RE: Iksar Monk?
# Jan 09 2001 at 2:28 PM Rating: Default
Feign Death and hand it over when they walk by, or sneak, all NPCs are indiff when this is done. If they do turn and kill you, you're just to low a level to do this quest, all are soloable by this level

I have a lvl 27 Iksar monk and even at low 20's I've hailed and asked Brother Quinn about this quest. He is indifferent to me without FD or sneak.

Illia's Beastary has a GREAT desciption relating to the spawns of the two monks, dropping the idols.

Where can i find Brother Zephyl.
I'm at at last bug stone ther ewaited he few days ago but still have not see it. Is it sapwn at other place now ?
RE: My Zephyl
# Aug 29 2000 at 11:38 AM Rating: Default
You may need to dispatch his placeholders. Get with a tracking class and drop any of these you see:

Hasten Bootstrutter
"a drake"
NPC ranger (forgot the name)

these are all ph's for Zephyl.

When doing it solo, there was a particular spot I camped them from. Coming in from the Innothule Swamp zone, take the first left. Move thru the narrow gap and move up the hill to the right a short way, just out of the path of the bears/skellies/fire beetles that wander through the gap. The Zephyl placeholder will come toward you to move through the gap about every 13 minutes. The advantage of this spot is that the pathing will make the mob run back and forth allowing you the chance to engage/hail it even without a sow. If Hasten or the ranger, please give a shout to see if anyone needs to speak with him...if not, clear the spawn >:) and settle in for 13 more minutes.

Good luck to you Brothers and Sisters!

talioring
# Aug 04 2000 at 3:04 AM Rating: Decent
so can the talioring of the robe fail? do you need to have a high talioring skill or will it automatically suceed?
RE: talioring
# Aug 19 2000 at 1:23 PM Rating: Default
It works automatically now all you have to do is combine in a large kit.
Got it...
# Jul 31 2000 at 4:17 PM Rating: Decent
Thanks for the notes and tips above, they helped me become the first Iksar on my server with this robe.

For other lizards doing it, you'll need to make a monk twink to get the headband and sash, but Zephyl and Qwinn had no faction issues to deal with.

Who, what and where...
# Jul 28 2000 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent

You need the highest headband ( purple ) and the highest sash ( red )
You need the Code of the whistling fist from Targin the Rock
You need the Idol of Zan Fi from Raster of Guk
You give the Code and your purple headband to Quinn in SK
He gives you the Needle of the Void
You give the Idol and you red sash to Zephyl in Rathe Mnts
He gives you "a special pattern"
You buy a scroll of Jonstan Whistling Warsong ( Bard guild )
You buy a swatch of shadow silk ( player made )
You put the Pattern, needle, scroll and swatch in a sewing kit
Hit combine... welcome to the Brotherhood!
Sash or Headband?
# Jul 21 2000 at 2:11 PM Rating: Decent
Clarification needed......Does one turn in SASHES or HEADBANDS in the various stages of this quest? If you read the description, you will see that it kind of conflicts with the list on the left. Since there are quests for both red and purple sashes AND red and purple headbands, it would be great to know which is needed for this quest. Thanks.
RE: Sash or Headband?
# Mar 20 2001 at 9:00 AM Rating: Decent
Both!

You turn in the Red Sash and the Idol to Brother Zephyl, and the purple headband and the Code of Zan Fi to Brother Quinn
Robe of the Lost Circle
# Jul 14 2000 at 6:30 AM Rating: Decent
Had a blast doing this quest. Had to redo all the headband quests, and get faction enough to do sash quest, camped Raster for about 4 days, and trust the 72 minute spawn on him, it is exact, got him after letting Mino PH despawn, 5:34 am Raster of Guk appeared, he's tough to, not something to solo unless you are in the high 40's or better. Even then bring a party, lots to do while camping Raster. Zephyl was the easy part, ran by me in zone about 5 minutes after I got there. Robe looks cool as hell too. Be patient, it's worth it.
Required Factions?
# Jul 13 2000 at 10:38 AM Rating: Decent
What is the required faction with Zephyl and Brother Quinn? The Headband and sash are not no-drop so an Iksar can aquire them, but what faction would one need? And what faction level
RE: Required Factions?
# Sep 21 2000 at 5:47 AM Rating: Default
Since these are guild masters in the towns of Freeport and Qeynos, you will need to hail a monk brother you trust to take your quest componets to them, or make a level 1 human monk, and get a buddy to transfer the items requred to your mule. I am crazy, but i find private areas to camp two chars, drop item for swap, and log on QUICKLY, with other char standing on top of item for recovery. Dont do this proceedue near npcs, since they frequently pick up trash on ground.

Time Needed...
# Jul 03 2000 at 12:31 AM Rating: Decent
Better adjust the completion time. I think you'll find most monks who have done this quest, barring the occasional lucky ******, will agree that it takes roughly 80+ hours minimum to complete.

I camped Raster in Lower Guk for 43 hours before getting him.
I camped Targin the Rock in Sol B for 30 hours before getting him.
I camped Zephyl for 18 hours before he spawned and I turned in the idol.
I am STILL camping Brother Qwinn in SK, and the count is at 55+ hours now.

I think my experience might be on the high end, but still it is representative of the tribulations of this quest. If you want to be in the Lost Circle, be darn ready to give up a bunch of time to do so.
RE: Time Needed...
# Sep 18 2000 at 11:52 PM Rating: Default
These times are obviously Luck applicable, I found Raster in 8 hours. This is approximately 16 spawns of him or his PH
RE: Time Needed...
# Nov 12 2000 at 10:14 PM Rating: Default
It took me a good month of consistant 4 hour of playing a day to complete this quest. pay someone to track the mobs you need, it goes by faster
