Drill Master Vygan may be found at the top of Fortress Talishan at -456, 26.

You say, 'Hail, Drill Master Vygan'

Drill Master Vygan says 'I am a Drill Master of the Legion of Cabilis. I have no time for idle chitchat. Be off if you were not summoned to this fortress! Find that guild which was chosen for you as an egg.'

You say, 'I am a true warrior of the legion.'

Drill Master Vygan says 'If you are you will have proof; else you will have the wrath of the Legion upon you for such a claim.'

Give him your Legionnaire's Mancatcher.

Drill Master Vygan says 'Ah, I have heard much of your deeds as of late ______, but there is still much to be [done].'

You say, 'What is to be done?'

Drill Master Vygan says 'It seems as though there is an uprising starting to brew and the War Baron would like a [legionnaire] to handle the situation.'

You say, 'I am a legionnaire.'

Drill Master Vygan says 'Yes you are. I see you are willing to possibly sacrifice yourself for the cause. That is good. Take this container and hunt down their messengers. They are the ones that relay battle plans to the different tribes. Their combined messages will reveal the master plan. Go now and do not return until you have them all.'

He hands you a Book of Bindings, a 4-slot TINY container. You need to gather four different pieces called An Unfinished Note and combine them in the book.

The first may be found off A Goblin Messenger in Warsliks Woods, near the southern entrance to the goblin fort.

The second may be found off A Sarnak Messenger in The Overthere.

The third may be found off A Goblin Messenger in the Frontier Mountains near the entrance to the Mines of Nurga.

The fourth may be found off A Sarnak Messenger at the Lake of Ill Omens near the zoneline to the Frontier Mountains.

Combine the four pieces in the book to craft an Illegible Message and give this back to Vygan.

Drill Master Vygan says 'Hmm. . . even if the writing wasn't as smudged as it is, I still would not be able to decipher the hidden message. You must now take this and find someone with the ability to read it. I hear there is such a person on patrol but I cannot recall where.'

You receive the note back. The person you're looking for is Trooper Drix, on patrol at the small ruins north of the pit in the Field of Bone.

You say, 'Hail, Trooper Drix'

Trooper Drix says 'Can't you see I am busy on patrol!'

Give him the note.

Trooper Drix says 'Ah, I see you know my true [calling].'

You say, 'What calling?'

Trooper Drix says 'I am the leading authority on restoring and deciphering hidden messages. I can probably make out the message if you can bring me back some [items] I commonly use.'

You say, 'What items?'

Trooper Drix says 'I will need your message, a frost crystal, a sarnak war braid, and some silver oxide. Bring these items back to me and be quick about it.'

You receive a 4-slot container called Drix's Satchel.

Frost crystals are droppable and may be foraged in the Dreadlands.

Sarnak War Braids drop from a Sarnak berserker in The Overthere. If they have one, it will be equipped.

Silver Oxide drops off of a A Bloodgill Goblin Scavenger in the Lake of Ill Omen, found on one of the pillars underwater near the entrance to Veksar.

Combine the note and the three other items in the box to craft a different version of Drix's Satchel. Give this to Drix.

Trooper Drix says 'Let me see now.'

Trooper Drix uses the mixture you brought him and spreads it evenly across your document. It settles into all the wrinkles and with the speed of a Master, Trooper Drix uses the sarnak braid to seal the pieces as one.

You receive a sealed note (what are the exact name and item lore in-game?).

Trooper Drix says 'Take this sealed note back to whoever you need to. I dare not say what it reads out loud.'

Return to Vygan and give him the note.

Drill Master Vygan says 'I see you have returned in one piece. That is good. You have shown that you are a true warrior of the Legion indeed! Take this, and show that you are more than a legionnaire. I fear we may need just that [before this issue is over].'

You receive Champion Crown Plans.

You say, 'Before what issue is over?'

Drill Master Vygan says 'Do not concern yourself for now. Rejoice instead and seek out Weaponsmith Grugl to guide you in forging your new weapon. I must speak to War Baron Eator regarding the welfare of Cabilis now.'

To Weaponsmith Grugl (also in East Cabilis, just outside the fort):

You say, 'Hail, Weaponsmith Grugl'

Weaponsmith Grugl sets down a blood-spattered mace. 'Come to assist in the testing of the bashing equipment? Nah. Not you. You are too small. You must be here to practice your forging.'

You say, 'How do I forge a Champion's Mancatcher?'

Weaponsmith Grugl says 'To forge a Champion mancatcher a blacksmith of great skill would need a steel rod, a forge hammer, and a forged Champion mancatcher crown. That crown is forged with a geozite tool, crown plans, a raw crown, and an opal.'

Grugl sells the rod, hammer, and a mancatcher crown. Opals may also be purchased in East Cabilis from the jewelery merchant. Combine the plans, an opal, the geozite tool, and the mancatcher crown in a forge to craft a Champion's Mancatcher Crown (trivial?). Combine the Champion's Mancatcher Crown, a steel rod, and a forging hammer to craft the Champion's Mancatcher (trivial? no-fail?).

Completed today 5-28-07 on the Nameless server. im not sure why but after all was said and done, i have the champions and legionnaires mancatchers. oh maybe youre supposed to keep the legionnaires for your back, sucks you cant dual wield them.
Still bugged.

Confirmed: This quest is still bugged. Completed on The Sleeper server yesterday. The combine failed and lost the Geozite Tool and the Plans as well as the vendor parts.

Definitely don't try the combine with a low smithing skill.
Still bugged.
# Oct 12 2006 at 12:16 AM Rating: Decent
I should have read this post before attempting it myself. I just had the forge eat all 4 of my pieces as well on The Sleeper. I put in a petition, but I doubt it will receive the proper attention it's due. The will just respond with a comment saying "Use the /f (feedback) feature to report in-game bugs"...

Did you ever get your items back from this bug?

Anyone have a where abouts for the messenger in overthere. Spent some time looking for him and cant find him. All others were easy to find. Thought about clearing the Sarnak ruins near WS woods but havent tried it yet. I use a druid to help track while I kill Sarnaks.

any info on this one would be great

I've seen it at the Warslik's Woods zone. All 3 times it was "outside" of the zone and if you tried to run up to it and attack, you zoned into WW. You can target it and cast on it which will pull it back into the OT zone.

I've seen quite a bit of this in the last few months. At one point, every zone area in Innothule Swamp had massed mobs that seemed to path in then get stuck.

Just thought I'd post a bit of interesting info. You DO NOT need the legionnaire's mancatcher to do this quest. You just need to follow the proper text and the Drill Master will give you the container.

If the combine fails on the crown you loose your quested plans, AND your Geozite tool. I have a petition filed due to this, but (as you might expect from Sony) no results so far. FYI my smithing was low, 32, so I'm not so surprised the combine failed as I am that the items poofed. They never poofed on previous quest failures in this chain. The Geozite tool in particular is a pain to do again.

Um if you were paying attention (like I and many other people were), there's a little thing called Smithing you have to work on to get really good at, so says your Drill Masters. So it's no surprise you fail on it because you didn't delve into the storyline to notice this.

Smithing is the key to the whole series of the pike quests, forcing you to build your sklll. I mean heck the Pride of the Legion has a 235 Smithing Trivial, and if you knew that and neglected and claim ingorance, then you deserve any ill results you achieved.

Shame on the folks that have ask SoE to return their Items, if they had been paying attention and following the Drill Masters' suggestions, their might be less of a chance of your stuff poofing if you do so.

All prior pikes return both the Head Plans (the actual reward of the quest) AND the Geozite tool, even if you fail with a skill of 0. Thatis where the complaints stem from. Despite this being a progression of the same quests, it has a higher risk of being an utterly wasted effort. The Head Plans is the reward for the Quest itself. because a person lacks the tradeskil to complete the Pike, does not mean they should have that reward erased. Having 200 or 20 skill in smithing doesn't change how you earned the Head Plans and thus earned the Legion rank that comes with them.

Well, the final Iksar pike (unless they've hidden another one) has been found. It's called the Pride of the Legion.

Head to Temple of Droga and kill Stone Seer Kaigek (mob with PH, took around 2 hours to spawn him for me). You can find Kaigek at loc. neg. 885, neg. 514.

Kaigek drops a Broken Medal. When identified it reads: "Bring us great honor on your mission -Geot"

Head to Warlord Geot in Lake of Ill Omen and give him the Medal. He notices it's the medal he gave to his friend Xyzith when he departed on his great journey. He'll find a Black Stone in it and asks you to find someone who knows much about stones.

Head to Timorous Deep and approach the Chessboard where you will find a female Iksar shaman called Izatri (approx. loc. is neg. 6000, 3000). Give her the Black Stone, she'll tell you that it traps the soul of the one carrying it but also notices that there is already a soul trapped inside. She returns it to you and asks you to find Hierophant Liyx.

You can find him in Field of Bone due west of the Plane of Knowledge book, loc is approx. neg. 3000, 2700.

Bring him the Black Stone, 2 Celestial Essences and a Mirrored Gem, drops off "a reflective soul" in Emerald Jungle (light blue mob, can be found in one of the northern ruins).

Hierophant Liyx summons Warlord Xyzith (skelly version). Dark blue mob, pathetic hit rate and ATK, hit me for around 150 max. Kill him, loot his soul and bring it to War Baron Eator.

War Baron Eator rewards you with the Pride of Legion Plans.

Head to Weaponsmith Grugle to find out how to make the weapon, asking "How do I forge Pride of the Legion?"

Combine the Plans, Warlord Mancatcher, Geozite Tool and Blue Diamond to receive an Unfinished Mancatcher.

Combine the Unfinished Mancatcher with a Titanium Rod and Forging Hammer to receive the Pride of the Legion.

Combines were trivial at smithing 235.

PRIDE OF THE LEGION:
Slot: Primary
Size: Giant
ATK: 14
DEL: 24
AC: 15
HP: 75
Sta: 10
Str: 10
SvM: 10
Effect: Rage of Xyzith (100dd/0 sec. stun)

The comment i'm replying to was back in 2004..but still you say "The mob was light blue to me" and "the mob was blue to me" but what level were you at when you did this?
#ZELLGODDESS, Posted: Oct 14 2004 at 2:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There is another one after pride of the legion. ok you say how can that be so well 2 things its not usuable by all warriors like every single other item from the other class cabilis quests, secondly take a look carfully at pride of the legion. if you looked it over well enough you will spot what im talking about to give ya a better hint read the test under were it says Effect: Rage of Xyzith (100dd/0 sec. stun).

14/24 seems really nice for Kunark era. Still I don't see that is it better than the monk quest but that 100dd plus a stun could really help someone keep aggro better with only a 24 delay...

pride of the legion is primary/back now.

karlea pretty much laid it out point blank took me about 2 hours to get kaigek to spawn.

xyzith was laughable i spawned him with my 65 sk with 63 shammy there was pitiful even before slow... once slow landed i let pet take him while i camped sk and logged in warrior to loot him and pet killed him from 50% unhasted in time it took me to change toons.

Just comfirming that you still lose all components for failing the Champion's Crown combine. I had a skill of 52 and failed the combine, I expected the plans to atleast be returned to me since that Messenger in FM is so hard to find, he's always stuck under the mountain.

Just thought I'd add that I petitioned in the hopes of getting my plans back, but the GM would not return them. He said a failed combine results in nothing being returned. I fail to see how or why the plans and geozite tool are not returned on a failed combine.

I lost all my components as well and waited 4 days before I got help by a GM. Meanwhile I did the Champions quest again, so the GM reimbursed my geozite tool. I took steps in my petition to point out, that all other pike/mancatcher quests returned the geozite tool on a fail check, hench it was a bug.

Triv #'s for crown and pike
# Jun 03 2004 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Well after failing the first time with a skill of 32 in Blacksmithing, I skilled up to 124, requested the Geozite Tool and the freaking Champions Mancatcher components, and redid the combines. With a skill of 124 at Smithing both the crown, and the combine to make the Champions Mancatcher, were Trivial to me. Just an FYI.

Note that the goblin messenger in FM is usually stuck in the mountain. Sometimes you can find him inside the short tunnel to Nurga. If that fails, kill the goblins at the entrance, then bring a lvl 30's character to wander around the mountain above the entrance to Nurga. Sit down, etc. Eventually you should get agro from the goblin messenger which pulls him out from under the world/inside the mountain.

AM I missing something or do you not need to do any previous quests to do this one? All you need is a geozite tool and the quest parts it seems.

Actually if you know the phrases to start it you do not need the legionnaires mancatcher. Handing it to Vygan just gives you the text .. he hands it back .. so actually you can skip all the others before it.

To get the Legionnaire's Mancatcher (a required item for this quest), you must finish the eponymous quest.
Sorry but your wrong fleven

i know your an administrator but your wrong on this one fleven i did this quest before it was ever posted all you have to do is tell vygan "I AM A LEGIONnAIRE" and he will get you started. Never even occured to me to hand over my legionnaires mancatcher. The legionnaire's mancatcher is NOT a required item for this quest until the quest is changed if it ever is.

pfft i cant spell hence edit

It does appear that you do not need to do the previous quests to do this one. I still have my Legionnaires Mancatcher sitting in the bank and the drill master gave me the quest for the Champion's Mancatcher just by saying the keywords "I am a legionniare".

The mancatcher quest after this one is broken still as of 29 May 2004. The collection bag doesnt hold 2 of the items, they are too big to fit in container.

hummm not sure about that did mine day you posted they all fit just fine.

A note on the warlords is its very easy to mq as near the end you give xyzith's belongings to a necro with a traitors head and spawn xyzith in west cab. kill him to get xyzith's destroyed? belongings from him give those to the necro necro gives you note to give to eator. eator gives you warlord plans

i failed at making my champions crown and lost it all said ***** this and went and trived banded at 115 and at 115 champion and warlord combines where all triv. cost of triving banded from a skill of 26 400pp cost of not losing my geozite tool again priceless.

do you play on test or the live servers?

As of 5/31/04 the items still do not fit in the bag given to you by Geot on the live servers.
