Alexsa Whyte may be found at -125, -40, 145.

You say, 'Hail, Alexsa Whyte.'

Alexsa Whyte says 'Greetings traveler, my name is Alexsa and I am currently looking in to collecting samples from the strange beings that make up the Legion of Mata Muram ranks. Our initial encounters with them revealed that each one is innately resistant to certain types of weapons and weak against others. So, by order of Morden, we must gather skin samples from each race and examine it. Thanks to our tinkering sister, Vaifan, I now have a device which can readily examine samples. However, with news of our scouts missing and our resources being spread so thin, retrieving these samples are impossible for us. Since you have taken the time to listen, I am wondering if you would be willing to help?'

You say, 'Yes.'

Alexsa Whyte says 'Oh wonderful! You don't know how helpful this will be. Take this device. It is what we use to examine samples. When you defeat the Muramite, remove his tongue, place it inside of here and combine it with some distilling salts. Distilling slats can be found along the shores of Natimbi. Once you have combined the ingredients, it will give you a final sample which I will need you to return to me when you get the chance. Each time you hand a sample, I will be able to reveal to you the innate strengths and weeknesses for that race. If you are successful at recovering a sample from every different race that has come through the portal, then I will talk to Morden about giving you a reward.'

You receive Vaifan's Pocket Sampling Device. At this point, anything else said is replied to with:

Alexsa Whyte says 'There is nothing more I can tell you, please take the item you received and get some samples for me.'

The item you're looking for is actually called Distilled Salts, and is a ground spawn on the beaches of Natimbi. Some known locations are:
-660, -545
+1300, -625
+1475, -900
+957, +918 (Northern shore)
-1017, -1519 (Western shore)
+625, -1305 (Eastern Shore)
-909, -1474 (Northern shore)
+533, +665 (Eastern shore)

Map File locations:
P -662.0898, -544.1769, 215.0457, 0, 0, 240, 1, GS:_Salt
P 1298.1725, -627.1100, 208.9470, 0, 0, 240, 1, GS:_Salt

P -1399.7537, -281.1713, 307.6973, 0, 0, 240, 2, GS_Salt

You have to gather tongues from several different types of monsters from the Gates of Discord and combine them in the device with the salts to craft "A XXXX Sample," where "XXXX" is replaced by the type of creature the tongue came from. Handing these samples in to Alexsa gives you information about the strengths and weaknesses of that type of creature.

A Kyv Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'Ah yes, the kyv. These stealthy beings are quite elusive. The fact that you were able to recover a sample from one of them is quite an accomplishment. Now, let's see . . . it appears that the kyv have no noticeable weapon weaknesses or resistances, but we do know they have the ability to deflect incoming arrows and thrown objects. It would seem that they are also resistant to poison based incantations, and quite weak to magic based spells. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

A Mastruq Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'Great sample! It looks like this was taken from a being with a thickened hide. This particular being is called a mastruq and seems to be quite resistant to blunt objects, but an arrow or slashing weapon would get through that hide quite easily. Because of their thick hides cold based elemental magic would be quite ineffective while the opposite would hold true for fire magic. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

A Noc Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'Looks like this came from the body of the race of beings called the noc. While their bony frames make them quite weak against crushing damage, their plated chests protect any major organs, reducing the effectiveness of arrows or slashing weapons. It would appear that their flesh is diseased which makes them resistant to disease based spells but their thin skin means that cold might be quite affective against them. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

A Ratuk Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'This looks like a sample from the brutish ra'tuk. These large beasts wield their axes adeptly and seem to have no major weaknesses save magical based spells. Because of their strange body makeup magic tends to affect them more then other spell types. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

An Aneuk Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'These odd-looking floating beings interest me the most. They seem to be quite adept with magic making them strong against magical incantations. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

An Ikaav Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'These snakelike beings are very deadly. The scales on their lower body are all but impervious to slashing weapons, but a well-placed arrow could do some serious damage. They are masters of magical energy making their defenses against such spells very good. However they do seem to be weak against elemental magic like cold. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

An Ixt Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'These centaur-like beings are quite bloodthirsty. They appear to be bred for fighting. Their fur covered lower half makes them very resistant to the element of cold but while that fur can protect them from one element it also makes them very vulnerable to fire. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

An Ukun Sample

Alexsa Whyte says 'An excellent find here! It appears that this was retrieved from one of the beings called an ukun. They have frail bodies but their blood is a deadly poison. This would imply that they are probably very resistant to poison. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

Once you've collected the eight samples:

Alexsa Whyte says 'Now that I have all of the basic samples I can add all of my research into this tome and give it to you.'

Alexsa Whyte says 'While we still need samples from both the force commander and his lieutenant, what you have given me so far warrants a reward of some kind. When you have recovered samples from both of the additional races I mentioned I will be able to reward you with something much better.'

At this point you receive Alexsa's Research Notes, a book containing the information given to you thus far.

Zun'muram Sample

Alexsa asks for the Tongue of the Zun'muram, which drops off various Zun`Murams in Ferubi, Txevu, and Tacvi.

Alexsa Whyte says 'A two-headed beast built for destruction. This creature is quite powerful, as I am sure you found out when you met it. While it does not appear to have any resistances or weaknesses, this sample should reveal some more information about its particular race. You're doing great, but there are more samples left to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

Tunat'Muram Sample

You also need a Tongue of the Tunat'muram, which drops off the boss of Tacvi and all of Discord: Tunat`Muram Cuu Vauax.

Alexsa White says 'This is unbelievable, you retrieved a sample from the army's leader and you still live? You are truly a great adventurer. I must get this sample to our mages quickly. We must do some extended testing as we have not had any information on him till now. You're doing great, but there are more samples to be found. Please get them to me as soon as you can.'

After you have handed in all the samples:

Alexsa Whyte says 'This is unbelievable, you retrieved a sample from the army's leader and you still live? You are truly a great adventurer. I must get this sample to our mages quickly. We must do some extended testing as we have not had any information on him till now. You have collected all the samples we need and I thank you for the assistance. I am indebted to you and with approval given by Morden himself I want you to take this, hopefully it will help you in your future adventures. Good day and good luck.'

You receive an Assistant Researcher's Symbol.

If you're looking for distilled salts for the Bic steps..look at these locations :
+957, +918 northern shore
-1017, -1519 Western shore
+625, -1305 Eastern Shore

There are probably more .. as you circle around the shoreline. Just pretend its low tide and look at where high tide line might be.

The best places to farm tongues (speaking from experience):

Kyv (Kod'Taz) - there are several static kyv spawns on the big north temple (Ikkinz 4 temple) in KT, and they're easily single-pullable.

Mastruq (Qimini) - the temple where the druid 2.0 mob is located is infested with mastruq, plus two static kyvs.

Noc (Natimbi) - these things are found in abundant numbers throughout GOD. Natimbi is the easiest place to farm their tongues.

Ratuk (Riwwi) - the three buildings in the middle of the zone is infested with ratuk. They've got very short aggro radii, so they're single-pullable.

Anuek (Riwwi) - the bleachers/stands in the arena spawn anuek mobs. Clear the other trash mobs on the bleachers to spawn them.

Ukun (Qimini) - there's a pen with several cages holding ukun near the Natimbi zone-in.

Ixt (Kod'Taz) - three ixt always spawn and circle the Summoner's Ring in KT.

Ikaav (Kod'Taz) - this is undoubtedly the hardest tongue to get. The best two places in KT to farm their tongues are the north temple and the Ikkinz 3 temple.

These drops are so nerfed, i'd seriously try to find another drop that might be short a few hp from this, but much easier, or faster, to obtain.

ikaav tongue
# Feb 14 2007 at 10:33 AM Rating: Decent
I read that ikaav tongue is really tough to get. I got mine in about 2 hours in the back room of ikkinz group trial 3 temple in KT. There are 4 ikaav in the room, 2 roamers in the center hall, 2 or 3 more in the western room. I used the tunnel the the instance as my camp and splitting area. This is the highest concentration of ikaav that i have found.
Salts in Natimbi
# Jan 28 2007 at 10:26 PM Rating: Decent
To clear up some confusion on the LOC's to the 3 Salts in Natimbi, the exact locations are:

Salt #1 is -896 -1471
Salt #2 is +624 -1298
Salt #3 is +537 +662

These Salts are on a 1 hour timer of respawn. Your best bet is to do the salts early while you are collecting the tongues, or you'll be stuck like me waiting aimlessly in Natimbi for 4 hours collecting the 10 salts.

when u zone in, run out onto the dock looking thing, then stop, turn around (180 degrees)and look on the right side of the dock, down the beach alittle ways u should see the bag on the ground.....

the next 2 bags r on the center island not the outside land.....from the zone in go to the northeast part of the island (more or less straight north from zone in)...

the next bag is just south of the bridge on the west side of the island....

all the bags r only a few feet from the edge of the water, and the spawn time is long...not really sure like 45min to an hour...

i hope this helps and i hope i got my north and south straight i dont have my map up right now so trying to remember... if i have them wrong just use this from the zone in there on the 2 farthest points on the island..

For those of you working hard on this I thought I would give you a heads up on a place to get the hard ones. A couple of us went to Ikki 1 & 2 to see if tongues dropped there and in those instances we got an Anuek, Ikaav, Ixt, & Kyv. We got a Noc one in Natimbi since gimp Nocs are plentiful there. Finally, we got all the rest in Ferubi. Hope this helps!

I had a couple Noc tongues drop a few days ago so I looted one with a level 52 alt to see if the quest giver would respond. She handed sampling device and accepted the sample back.

I guess the fact that you can not even enter KT or Qvic+ without being 65 was considered enough of a restiction.

This quest is not nearly as so many of you say. I spent a 6 hours or so in Ferubi on the stage in front of the Zun and got 5 tonuges. Kyv, Noc, Mastruq, Anuek, and Unkun all came from this camp. I then went to KT and ran in to the first temple to the left, with the female human NPC. Within 4 hours Ikkav, Ixt, and Ra tuk all dropped.

Respawn time on the distilled salts as of 10-24-2005 seems to be approximately 1 hour and there are 3 up in zone in static spots, so it would be wise to collect these as you pass thru the zone rather than waiting until the end to collect them.

Add this to your natimbi map to make finding the salts easier.

I hate Aneuks

The first temple in KodTaz, near Kevren Nalavat, has 6 Aneuks that spawn right at the top or along the outside. Ideal place to camp the Aneuk tongue one might think.

But after roughly 40-50 clearings and no tongue, I'm starting to wonder Lol. Have gotten multiple ukun, kyv, mastruq and ra'tuk tongues (all of the other mobs that spawn along the outside there), but not a single Aneuk tongue.

Could someone confirm whether they've seen one drop from that area? I'm curious to think if, because there are so many easily accessed Aneuk mobs there, it was taken off their loot table.

However, loot tables are consistent zonewide, so I guess that theory doesn't hold up. Can anyone verify that they'd gotten an aneuk tongue from KodTaz zone?

Thanks

All tongues drop from the model they correspond to anywhere in GoD. However, ive never seen a tongue drop from Qvic+ excluding the zun and tunat tongue. Also the drop rate for the tongue appears to be the same in every zone where they can drop. It took me 12 days at 8-15 hours a day to collect all of them from Kod'Taz. Just never give up and you can eventually get all the tongues. The aneuk tongue took 25% of my total time to get.

Your first statement is correct. My 8 regular tongues came from the following zones:
riiwi: kyv
natimbi: ukun, ra'tuk, mastruq, noc
kod'taz: ixt
txevu: ikaav, aneuk

Seen plenty drop in Qvic and Ferubi as well. Any GoD zone with the appropriate mob models can drop the tongues, including the Qvic+ zones.

two of the locations are (as given by /loc)

Cannot Find Ikaav Tongue
# Jul 22 2005 at 6:03 AM Rating: Decent
I've been working on this for months. I have all but 2 tongues, Tunat and Ikaav.

I've been soloing in KT for the Ikaav Tongue since May - the roamer that goes round and round, but no luck.

Could some of you PLEASE tell me where you found your Ikaav tongue along with where in the zone the MOB was. I am starting to think that even though I've been killing Captors Detainers, etc, that you need to kill them in a certain place, as well.
RE: Cannot Find Ikaav Tongue
# Jul 25 2005 at 6:38 AM Rating: Decent
The Ikaav tongue has got to be the worst tongue to get. Took me 3-4 hours a day, for week and a half, maybe two weeks, to get it. I did a 4 mob pattern where Ikaav always spawn every round.

Go to temple for the tri-fates, when you go to the quest lady, that small outside left temple there is a Ikaav guarding the front, that's number one.

Invise up and head west to next temples, think it's for trial 1. Front mini temple has a Ixt and Ikaav that always spawn out front, that's the second Ikaav.

Invise and head south again to the elbow and east to last set of temples. Set up behind the quest cat in the rocks. Look between the outside mini temple and the main temple. There are two Ikaav's here, and they are always Ikaav's. These are the last two that I killed in my rotation.

I did these with a cleric box, and my paladin main. Placate all mobs in area, then pull the one you want.

I happened to get the Ikaav tongue at this last temple. All told, I'd guess around 300 Ikaavs were slaughtored to finish this quest.

Simply put, this quest needs to be fixed. Its too much work and to many rare drops to complete. I have unfortunately taken on the task of doing this quest and have found 1 tongue after 2 days and hundreds of mobs.

What aggravates me is that in ideal circumstances a person would pick up the tongues as they go thru GoD progression. But it doesnt make sense to do that because you wont be assured of a Tunat drop. It only makes sense to get the drop from Tunat first before you start anything. But once at this stage its a long term frustrating experience of getting a tongue drop when there are so many other neck/waist pieces.

This is a terrible quest at this stage. If you like the item, slap yourself and snap out of it. dont waste your time. This Tunat and zun muram tongue is going to spend a long time in my bank. I'm sure i will eventually destroy it long before im ever close to completing this quest.

Like all quests, it's up to you to evaluate whether you fell the dificulty is worth the reward. If you feel it's too much work then for you it is. If you feel it is worth the effort then it probably is (unless you get something better first).

My guild is only as far as Qvic, but I have managed to get all 8 trash tongues for 2 of my charactors already. Most of them came while going about my business or on raids since most people didn't care about them. I did spend some of my time camping tongues, but most dropped when I wasn't trying. (last one came in Qvic from an Ikaav while clearing for M'sha's)

Since they can be handed in as you get them (after combining with salt), they take don't take up bank space either so that's 1 less concern. IMO if you are already in Tacvi and start with the Tunat one then you are creating a lot of work down the line for yourself. However, if you start handing in what drops along the way then by teh time you reach Tacvi you will have most of them done.

I think this quest is just fine, I just finished it and it made me feel awsome to know i was able to finish something like this almost all on my own. If you dont want to put the time and effort into finding the tongues then you shouldnt be trying this quest. Items like this shouldnt just be handed to you, you need to earn them.

They did make this quest easier by far a while ago, now you don't have to go to ferubi to get the zun tongue, they drop from the zun's in tacvi but are rare, usualy get 1 every instanced or so.

I don't know about you but it is quests like this and BiC that keep me interested in the game, it gives me more of a challange and it makes you feel great when you finish.

I got the Tunat and Zun tongue and it took me just about 3 weeks of soloing in Natimbi, Qinimi and Kod'Taz in my spare time to get all the other pieces. OK, not every class can solo these zones, but it *is* doable to finish this quest, especially when you and your helpers are at a stage where you can finish GoD as a whole, just needs a bit of patience and determination...

well, I still have to say, 3 weeks is absurd. I still note that you dont have neck on magelo. so im assuming its taking you a while too finish.

Our guild is done with GoD cept tacvi so its a rare instance we hunt there. But even still its a long process when u do have help. 3 weeks is still unreasonable.

It's a belt too, Kandi and i'm using it in that slot. And I wouldn't consider 3 weeks of hunting unreasonable for an item with every known modifier in the game...

oops, forgot to check, heh waist item. The reason i say this task is not reasonable is because tunat is prolly going to drop it each kill. Its more than likely that everyone in your guild that is working on this quest will get the item first.

When it filters down to those who aren't working on this item, then accomplishing this quest is hard. 3weeks (your mileage may vary) is unreasonable because there is a rare instance that you will be in GoD zone. There are many other quests, progression, assists to guildies, epics, trials, and so on that can be accomplished in 3 weeks. The rarity of such a drop will make your opportunities to get this unlikely. Its not often you can get a group in KT nowadays.

That being said. It doesnt make sense during progression to do the quest because you cannot be assured of a tunat drop or even a kill. If youre guild is in tacvi nowadays, it is very unlikely theyre doing anything else in GoD.

I've done tradeskill earring, epics, shard hunting, old vp keys and so on. This quest for an item that is not considerably better than other upgrades and the amount of time it takes to accomplish isnt reasonable. your better off grabbing the first waist/neck upgrade in tacvi and ignore the time youre going to spend on this quest. these modifiers arent very much benefit even if u add them all together.

Why not do the quest now and get part of it over with while your guild is killing ikkinz trials or whatever? It isn't like you have to hold onto all of the tongues, just get some salt which is ground spawned in natimbi, go to abysmal sea and get a container and combine them together then turn it in, nothing at all and takes 5 minuits tops.

If anything you will be done up to the part when your guild kills tunat instead of rushing arround looking for all of the tongues.

I totally agree, with you Saraban, well worth the trouble, and 3 weeks? So? that's what questing is like. This item is better than virtually any 1.5, mine for sure. 3 weeks, hell, 3 months, just go quest in your off time, and you'll get the pieces, or better yet, have all the peices before you loot the tongue off of Tunat, or let someone that does have them loot, kinda lame to loot this item then whine about the quest, and let it rot even, I am sure there was someone in that raid would have loved to have this.

Sorry, but I do not understand the point of this quest. You can kill a majority of the mobs with a group of 60's for this quest and then the last mob is a lvl 85 mob? Once, you get to the point of raiding an 85 mob why would you want this piece.

Well.. I personally couldn't resist a 285 HP/Mana-Belt with 23% MP and every known modifier in the game. People in the high end may be spoiled, but not *that* spoiled :p
But one point of you said is definitely true - if you do this quest in the order it is revealed by Alexsa there's a giant gap in difficulty between the basic tongues (soloable for some) and the Zun'Muram and Tunat'Muram tongues (raid drops from Txevu/Tacvi). And while it *is* nice and useful to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of your opponents, a little token of appreciation would have been nice as intermediate reward with the book...
