Snokin Breaksteel is located on the ship at +95, +275.

You say, 'Hail, Snokin Breaksteel'

Snokin Breaksteel says 'Hello, Snokin can help you with da smith stuff. Can you [help] Snokin? Snokin too busy, need more time at forge with new ore, less time doing silly work for Wayfarers.'

You say, 'I can help.'

Snokin Breaksteel smiles broadly. 'You is nice person! Da Wayfarers wants Snokin to make lots of silly things for dem, but Snokin want to make stuff with [new ore], not old steel. Can you do some [silly work] for Snokin?'

You say, 'What new ore?'

Snokin Breaksteel says 'It is strange ore, Snokin never see anything like it. It very easy to work with, if you knows the way. It also make very strong steel. Dey say dat it get dat way when something big, like explosion or something magic, make all da metal line up. So dey call it aligned ore,' Snokin says the words, clearly unsure of what they mean. 'It make great steel! Very strong and make good, sharp edges if you hammer on it right way. Snokin know how to make steel from new ore. If you find any ore, bring to Snokin and Snokin give you new steel.'

You say, 'I can do some silly work.'

Snokin Breaksteel says 'Tank you! If you make stuff for Snokin, Snokin can work more on new ore. You work as hard as Snokin, den Snokin give you good reward. Snokin knows people work good for good reward. Take dis stuff and make studs so Snokin no have to. Just go to forge and put stuff in. One of each is good. When you have da studs, bring to Snokin. When you do enough work, Snokin will show you da secret for makin da new ore into da new steel.'

You receive 20 x Vial of Abysmal Sea Water, 20 x Metal Scraps, 20 x Simple Iron File. Combine 1 of each in the nearby forge. You also receive the book Makin Nice Stuff.

You have learned the recipe Simple Stud!

Simple Stud trivials at 31. After making them all, hand them to him unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What silly work?" and he will give you more until he is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100).

Snokin Breaksteel smiles at you, showing very crooked teeth. 'Good! Snokin needs some rings for da Wayfarers. If you could make dem. Snokin be happy. Take dis stuff and go over to da forge and make rings. Bring da rings to Snokin.'

This time he hands you 20 x Simple Iron File, 20 x Simple Ring Mold, and 20 x Metal Scraps. As before, combine 1 of each in a forge.

You have learned the recipe Simple Ring!

Simple Ring trivials at 38. After making them hand them to him unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What silly work?" and he will give you more until he is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100).

Snokin Breaksteel says 'Snokin not tink you as bad as dey say. Snokin need chisels and you can make dem. Take dis stuff to da forge, put one of each of dem in and make da chisel. Bring da chisel to Snokin fast, da Wayfarers needs dem.'

This time he hands you 20 x Simple Chisel Mold and 20 x Metal Scraps. Again, combine 1 of each in a forge.

You have learned the recipe Simple Chisel!

Simple Chisel trivials at 46. After making them hand them to him unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What silly work?" and he will give you more until he is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100).

Snokin Breaksteel says 'Good! More stuff for you to do for Snokin. Snokin like you. Make files and bring Snokin soon. Take dis stuff and put into forge to make files. Go now, work hard for reward, not stand and look at Snokin.'

This time he hands you 20 x Flask of Abysmal Sea Water, 20 x Simple File Mold, and 20 x Metal Scraps. Again, combine 1 of each in a forge.

You have learned the recipe Simple File!

Simple File trivials at 54. After making them hand them to him unstacked, up to four at a time. Keep going back and saying "What silly work?" and he will give you more until he is satisfied (need to hand in approximately 100).

Snokin Breaksteel says 'No more work now. Snokin happy wit what you do already. Snokin show you secret now. You not tell anyone!' Snokin looks around furtively, as if everyone on the ship doesn't hear everything he says. He hands you a piece of paper with some very precise writing on it. You can only guess that he did not write it. You look it over and you understand the methods for smelting the aligned ore and the shimmering aligned ore. It's not a complicated process, but you would have needed information that only that Wayfarers have to uncover it. Now all you need to do is place the ore into a forge and you will be able to make the steel. However, you are certain that you can improve the process if you work with the ore long enough. Snokin takes the paper back and pulls out a ledger. You see him carefully note your name on the ledger with clear and concise penmanship that matches that on the paper you just read.

You can now make (and learn) the Bar of Aligned Steel and Bar of Shimmering Steel recipes.

You can turn these in stacked just fine. Just confirmed by turning in the entire stack ~10-15 each set until I reached ~100 total turned in and it works. Don't waste your time separating them out into singles.
If you mess up a combine

During the making the simple stud portion I did 100 turn-ins then was given supplies to make 20 more, somehow I failed 1 of them and ended up with 19 simple studs and 1 metal bits and no simple file or abysmal water to complete the combine. so I turned in the 19 I had done and tried to say "silly work" to get more supplies or go on. NO text trigger will allow you to continue at this point UNTIL you delete the remaining materials yuo have in your inventory for the task ie any left over metal bits, simple iles, vials of abysmal sea water, and the note the ogre gave you. then you can say "silly work" and continue. Doing this then gave me teh simple ring portion. Hope this helps anyone else that got stuck on this part for this reason.

I have done all the freebie trade skill task's in the Abysmal Sea. They take a long time yes GRRRRR. But it is well worth it in the end. You can only do the GOD trade skills if you do the freebie skills in the Abysmal Sea. So its worth the time and Effort in the end.
Broken?
# Jan 29 2006 at 8:09 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is stupid, been handing in the studs till I'm half asleep and he still wants more. Plus, I'm failing anywhere from 40 to 50 per cent of the time even though the combine is trivial.

Don't waste your time, as soon as you hit 31 in blacksmithing, move on.
Skill Ups

Most recent patch messed up lower level tradeskill and other skill ups. They are working on fixing it.
Broken or Nurfed??
# Apr 13 2005 at 7:37 PM Rating: Decent
Bah! This just has to be broken 14th April and i have been doing the combines/handins for 2 hours solid!! Just got my 94th message in a row...either made the simple ring or failed the combine. But either way 94 attempts without a single skillup? Come on!! Sony.
I'm a level 18 Paladin and stuck on 17 smithing. Did they put the TS spike in the wrong place??

Just wanted to warn you ... It was my intention to complete the Abysmal Sea newbie tradeskill quests one a nite before going to bed. Looks like I'll be here ALL nite.

I'll let you know when its fixed.

Good till 31

These quests are decent to get the free 31 points out of them. After 31 it is tedious and a waste of time to sit there and turn in 400 unstacked finished combines for the extra 23 skill ups after that. If maybe I could turn in the item stacked .. maybe I would have spent the time for the extra 23 free points but really, for about 400 plat loss I went to 115 doing banded armor right after this. From there I made Steel Guardian Arrows since im Karana. In the end after 2 1/2 hours I was down 4kish, up to 188 smithing and had about 600 Steel Guardian Arrows to use for fletching.
Count
# Jul 01 2004 at 3:06 AM Rating: Decent
This is based on a single count of 400 turn-ins. Not 4 separate counts of 100. So, If you turn in 115 items for the first set, you do not start over at 0 for the next set. You then only need 85 more to reach the next set. So, don't destroy some just because you only needed 1 or 2 more for the next one. This is true with all of the trade skill freebie quests.

When GoD was first released, the tuna and crab you caught from fishing sold to vendors for a little over 4gp per pound. The fish varied in weight from 1 - 15lbs. Plus, in the Abysmal Sea, there was a chance to fish "Kutin's key" (not lore) which you would turn in to Kutin. He would give you essence of troll in return, a 54pp item.

BUT that was all taken away at about the 3rd GoD patch. The fish seem to sell for 4cp regardless of the weight and you no longer get essence of troll for the key.

You still get an essence of troll for the key but it is a Lore-No Drop version.

You've probably figured this out by now, but if you did get your 10 lvl gnome here, quest would be worthless. You can't skill up tinkering until level 16, and as a gnome you're given tinkering of 50 anyway.

There is a way without the need of anyone porting you. You go thru Jaggedpine Forrest and there is a zone from there to nedarias crossing. Invis will get you far!!!!(buy potions if you cant cast)I was curious about the same thing and did it with my level 6 druid (forraging mule)to see if it could be done and i was definitely the lowest level character in the gates zone. It was quite fun adventuring into new grounds and using this path that had not been written about anywhere at the time. (did it right after gates came out and fish was still selling at a premium)

There is always a way... Have your friendly level 54 Druid invis (for safety) and teleport you to Natimbi - The Broken Shores then get on the boat on the return trip to Narendria's Landing. The boat stops in Abysmal Sea on both trips.

Make certain that the items you are handing in are unstacked in the trade window. Otherwise you've done the equivalent of 75 turn-ins, assuming you were handing in four stacked at a time... Smiley: oyvey

I did the brewing "quest" as well as the baking and found them totally useless since I am at master level in all tradeskills excpet jewelry and tailoring. I can make 1-3 flour\tea\steel from the raw product OR I can guarantee 2 from doing the turn in. MOst often, I get only 1 from refining the item myself.

Also, I have absolutely no problem using the taelosian stones to make serrated arrowheads, which I use to make serrated tip arrows. Again I did NOT do the fletching "quest". It seems to me that the only purpose of these quests is to get a free skill up to 51. They don't unlock a single thing.
RE: You know
# Mar 12 2004 at 2:43 PM Rating: Decent
I disagree with you here. Before doing the quest I couldnt use the aligned Ore or the raw Nihilite. But after doing the quest i can.

I personally think that they are good because after getting the raw material you dont have to go back to abysmal to "refine" them You can go back to PoK and do it there. So you actually do unlock something. You unlock the ability to use the materials.

I decided today to experiment today since I've been using the GoD tradeskill items for all skills but done these worthless quests for baking and brewing. I am unable to refine any GoD tradeskill item except the tea leaves and the wheat. BUT, I have absolutley no problems working with the refined item from doing a turn in. I've made sheets of metal from the ore, serrated tip arrows from the stones, pale nihilite weapons with the ore and nihilte.

Now, unless I can guarntee a return of more than 2 when I refine an item, I will always do a turn in to get my guarnteed 2 refined items back. So far, It's random, 1-3, when I refine the wheat. Since there is no use for wheat, I refine it myself. Who cares if I lose any?!

So, again, I have to say these quest are useless outside of free skill ups.

Hit Find or ctrl-f and the list of vendors pops up. There are only 2, most often, vendors listed for each tradeskill. 1 of those 2 will give you the skill up quest. They'll also do the raw material refinement\turn in for you. The hardest one to find is alchemy because they are so far inside the ship.

It costs under 500pp to get smithing past this point the old way... that's farming 50 silks and selling em in the bazaar. Trivial...

Sorry for someone that spent $$$ this is a crock.. I think the reason they did it is noone would do trades because of the associated costs to skill up.
Brewing Freebie
# Mar 10 2004 at 1:33 PM Rating: Decent
Yitimis Groglenog has the Brewing freebie.
Ordin Wheasly has the baking one.
Imildu Woodstreak has the Fletching.
Glirina Morningbloom has Jewelry.
Tonlyei Lyhin has Tailoring.

Was searching them on my ogre ber so I didn't look for research, alchemy, poison or tinkering.

Every Tradeskill has one
# Mar 09 2004 at 7:55 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, every trade skill has one. Alchemy, Tinkering, Tailoring, Pottery, Fletching, Baking, Brewing, JC and Smithing. They all will take you to about 56 for free.

As a person who spent the time... This urks me.
--Rant on-- So in the next expansion everyone who buys it can get a personal trainer and practice hand to hand all day long to get their skills up without any risk? Oh and it should work for every combat skill. Oh and you can get all you spell skills up too, and the room has a mana/stam regen effect so you can just chain cast, and punch up to max skill. Oh and it should have a special bonus to the random skillup mod so it only takes half an hour to max a skill. Oh and you can pay 1k plat for every level you want to skip, the trainer will just take your money and level you up. 1k per level... got a spare 65k? hmm I wonder how much they'd sell me an AA for? --rant off--
Ok, sorry folks, just OMG I can't wait till next expansion in 2 months to see if I'm right. Heck we got buff vendors, free tradeskills, 700p and hour fishing holes, and casinos in this last one. ~sigh~
RE: ~sigh~
# Aug 09 2004 at 11:00 PM Rating: Decent
A person who spent the *time*? Seriously, it takes longer to skill up with these quests due to the length of time you spend making trivial pieces and doing turn ins. But it's FREE, and you don't have to make the subcombines which are long since trivial.

Why can't people just be happy with change, even if it doesn't directly benefit them? If the world was run by people like you, we'd still be in the stone age, or definitely at least not driving cars, after all, some people were only able to walk to get around, they must be so upset because of the convenience of modern transportation!
RE: ~sigh~

Okay, I read this but sit here boggled.

I will get to this quest ASAP because IF I read this right, then it is possible to raise my Smithing skill up to about Trivial 54 for FREE???

I am also going to look around for other similar quests for the other tradeskills. This sounds tedious but heck - Free skill ups, no plat involved?

I'll take that anyday.
