Ok,
There was i, 46 Dark Elf Necromancer, bored to death hunting spirocs at 2 am.
So i decide to go to OOT to try to camp the AC, i ran over a friend of mine (a 60 Phantasmist) and a Druid friend of mine, (56 Preserver) who buffed me, KEI, SOE, Skin like nature, spirit of the shissar etc (love you Muregano and Qzito :D), so i jump on the boat and head for OOT.
When i arrived, i did a /w to see who was one, and some Channeler level 30 was on, so i head over to the AC Isle and bind myself at the Magician Tower, and start camping it.
The ogre, the pirate, goblins, a lot of cyclops, its 4am, bored, thank god i have another computer and i can IRC while waiting or id be bored to death, so somehere around 6 am i kill this "a Cyclops" and 6 minutes later, *POOOF* Ancient Cyclops.
My heart started beating, and started killing him and taking screenshots.
At 6:10 i had my Ancient Ring and everyone in the zone was Gratzing me.
The trick is:
PATIENCE. He will pop eventually.

It is advised to get the Quest items prior to looking for Hasten in Rathe as he will despawn after a certain amount of time and getting him to spawn in the first place can take hours with bad luck.`
The Shadowed Rapier is a TEMPORARY item that drops from "a shadowed man," found in several zones. Since it's TEMPORARY, it's best to get this last. The Ring of the Ancients drops from "an ancient cyclops," found in Ocean of Tears and Southern Desert of Ro. In the Ocean of Tears, the AC spawns on the seafury cyclops island and can spawn in place of any of the seafuries. The Southern Desert of Ro AC has a much more intriciate spawn mechanic that can be found on his bestiary page. You will also need the equivalent of 3250 Gold for the turnin. (325 Platinum works). Hasten Bootstrutter is a semi-rare spawn in Rathe Mountains. He, or any of the mobs on his spawn cycle will spawn in the Northeast section of the map in the area where Hill Giants are found approximately every 6 minutes(provided they are kept down). Once any of these NPCs or Hasten spawns they will begin roaming throughout the zone where after running their route they will despawn and a new mob will spawn. If you set up camp at the little valley leading into the Hill Giant area every placeholder or Hasten will roam right past you provided they aren't killed by another player. NPCs that are PHs for Hasten listed in order of how often they pop: Spawns are at exactly 4m 45sec cycles. a drake a grizzly bear Brother Zephyl Maldyn the Unkempt You say, 'Hail, Hasten Bootstrutter' Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Stopped, I have. Greet you, I do. What business do we have? Hmm? Speak up!!' You say, 'Journeyman's boots.' Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Journeyman's boots are what you seek? Ha!! Those I have upon my feet and disintegrate will they if my life is taken. Extra pair have I, and, possibly, [rare trade] can we make.' You say, 'What rare trade?' Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Three things I call for and journeyman boots are yours. A [shadowed rapier], [ring of the ancients] and gold... 3250 gold coins I call for !! This trade I call.' You say, 'What shadowed rapier?' Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Shadowed men, foes to all, have appeared. Many lands do they walk. Invisible are they, but for the items they wield. Seek them out and return to me a shadowed rapier. Return it with haste before 'poof' goes the rapier!! No time to camp have you.' You say, 'What ring of the ancients?' Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Ancient cyclopes [sic] do march the land. Long have they lived and crafted the rings of the ancients. I must have one and you shall go and fetch one for me. Seek the lands of the oldest cyclops clans. Seek the plains, seek the island in tears and search the dunes for there is one who is last. His clan was blown from the sands.' Give Hasten the Shadowed Rapier, the Ring of the Ancients, and 3250 gold (or 325 platinum) Hasten Bootstrutter says 'The time to trade has come!! I am now rich and you are now fast. Hey! Whoever said that you can't just wander into a zone and kill the AC? My boyfriend and I wandered into OOT, going after Gornit, lo and behold the Oracle was up. So I held the Gornit spawn, and he started over toward the Oracle. I did a zone check and we were the only two there... so I said to him, hey! good time to camp the AC we are the only ones here. So on his way from Gornit to the Oracle he sees the AC standing on the hill all lonesome like, so we killed it. Wham just like that. PPPpppPPP

INDEED. I camped in SRo on Saturday on my way to hunt HG's in Rathe. I log on Sunday, 9PM game time, do a /w, see that I am the only one in the zone, all of a sudden I hear heavy footsteps and lo and behold there he was. WOOT!!!!! All alone with the AC. I killed him in short fashion, now its off to see Mr. Bootstrutter!!!!!

The ring dropped for me early this morning at about 2:30am PST in OOT. The AC was continuosly camped for over 17hrs without success before I camped him (~1.5 hrs). This is my second ring off the AC in OOT (never bothered in SRo since there is ALWAYS someone who KS's there), my first ring took 8 straight hours of camping before the AC showed up, this ring is for my friends SK. It's not a bad camp if you happen to find the camp free or lucky enough to still be around when the person camping it gets sick and tired of waiting :) Now hopefully I can find that little gnome for less than 2 hrs....

I recently did this quest by MQing it. the druid with the ring and i with the money went to south karana, got the rapier, then headed for rathe mtns. almost as soon as we enetered the HG area we found Hasten. i Handed in the rapier, but my partner could not for some reason open a trade windom with hasten. before we had time to do anything we were trained by a group of HG's and i was killed.
Shortly after i got a rez and we tried again. Luckly we found Hasten in the same area, and while my partner ran to SK for another rapier i stayed behind hailing Hasten to keep him still.
200 Hails later my partner returned and the quest finally worked!!
though i paid 5000platnium for this Journeymans Boots are totally worth it! acting like a lvl 14 druid sow, they are always a lifesaver. Right click "sow" even while running. If you feel discouraged because of what people may say about the AC spawn, or having to find Hasten, dont give up.

2 Hours: Go to Sro, camp the AC, kill the AC, go to Swamp, kill shadowed Man, go to Oggok bank, take 3250 GP, go to RM, found Hasten and get Jboots !! :)

Wow, he popped about 20min after I logged in Sro...got my ring at 11:05 P.M. EST time. YaHooo!!!!! I am one happy wizard> >:) The best advice I can give you: just persevere, dont give up. You never really know when he's gonna spawn. Good-luck!!!

I love to hear about all these posts on how quick I got it and how lucky I was, hahahah I laugh at all of you. Your all full of it. That never happens and if your reading this, it's because you know I'm tell the truth. The AC has to be the most boreing camps there is. The AC hardly EVER pops in So Ro, the only one that is on a time line is in OOT and you have to wait about 12 hours in between pops. I laugh at anyone who thinks they can just wander into a zone and suddenly see the AC and get the Ring. Whatever hahahaha

lol....ever hear of luck u moron? I was in sro waiting for a hate raid when I decided to stay in the desert and look for the AC (was like 2 hours early)...withing a half hour of doing nothing but turning around looking for him...he popped and I ran over and killed him before the others could. So quit whining "oh it never happens" and realize u are just a moron who will never get the ring.

Lvl 35 Monkey just soloed him last night only did about 300 points of damage to me one bubble.
will a lvl 31 troll warrior be able to do this quest with a group of other people (level 20-30s)?? asm my guild are after some jboots and i am the highest charecter.

Im wondering at what lvl could you solo this AC? I plan on doing it as soon as i get my ranger up more lvls.

I soloed him at 52 with no probs on sevenh hammer in OOT, hes about 45 but has a lot of HPs and hits in the 90's sometimes but bear in mind that I'm a druid and my AC is unlikely to be anywhere close to a ranger of similar level, I doubt my agi is as well. Took about 3 Breath of Ro's a coupla Drifting Deaths ad about 2 Engulfing Roots. Didn't resist too much, which was nice. Was gonna use my ES Vambs but I wanted him out of the way quickly as there was another cyclops roaming around, and I didn't wanna aggro him by pulling the AC to far due to root breaking. Broke root quite a bit actually may have rooted more than twice as I mentioned above.
If me sums are correct ( probably not) he has slightly less than 4500 hps. And he doesnt summon or any other silly things like that. Which is nice (unlike that bloody Corrupted Seafury Cyclops) im assured.

Well i got lucky and there was a group that just finished with him when i logged on and then i got even more lucky because after killing one pirate and one cyclopse the AC spawned. Now i just need to figure out how to do the rest of the quest :) Well good luck to everyone else
Got my AC ring last night in OOT. I would personally like to thank Luxxord, 51 Cleric for his (her) assistance. He was part of the group that had the spot before me, and stayed to help me. Anyway, after about 4 hours of camping the AC popped. We rolled for the ring (he has an alt warrior he wanted to get the boots for), and I won the roll. Thanks for your help Luxxord, and now it's off to find that pesky Hasten Bootstrutter, lol.

OK, I just saw how some of you think Druids are greedy for wanting these boots. "What do you need them for? More money?" Well here it is.
Pulling a mob with snare and its resisted, start to run away and have your SoW wear off. Now what do you do? With Jboots salvation is a click away :) Other wise, you die horribly.

I have also a question. Do Hasten despawn if he gave away his Jboots or is it possible that a friend of mine and me do the quest at the same time.
If i give Hasten the items and get my boots, can my friends right after that give his items also to him, or will he despawn ?

The items can indeed be MQ'd my drood friend Caven and I infact did it just a few hours ago about 15 seconds before the nights patch (got there just in time) He handed the ring while i turned in the rapier and gold! Thanks Cav :)

I've done this MQ 2 times now so I can verify that it works (unless verant does away with MQ'ing...) After you have all the quest components (Ring of Ancients, Shadow Rapier, 3250gp) go to Rathe Mtns and hail Hasten Bootstruter, have the person with the ring hand that in FIRST. Next have the character that you want to recieve the jboots hand in the rapier and gp, then hasten will say something about him being rich and you being fast (3250gp is rich? silly gnomes...) and the character that handed in the last items will get the boots. Hope this helps.

did this today... camped the AC for 7 RL hrs and no pop, then later that day i hung there for 30min and it popped... went down real quick with 40cleric and 41warrior... worst part of this quest is the waiting

I did this quest today all told i spent about 3 hours or so doing it. First went to s ro and started killin stuff about 15 minutes after i got there low and behold the AC spawns, I unload everything I've got on him and he dies, I get my ring next I went to WC to get my rapier that took about 20 minutes or so (shadowed men are green and my pet was able to take em out with minimal help) then went to the bank and got the money and proceeded to head to rathe mtns, had to wait like 2 hours for hasten to finally pop, gave him the stuff he gave me my boots :)

i have been camping in s.ro for 50hours killed everything i see and i get kc two times this quest really does brong ot the worst in people well i can say another thing to its alot easyer to bring somkind of skill to work on along when i was killing green i built up 2hs real nice lol well thats my info on the ac man people can be real rude on this quest so watch yor back

I had tried pulling spectres from oasis only to wind up having to run for my very life. I zoned into sro and I hear a loud thud that could only be made by a SG. Eager to gain back my confidence, I ran up the hill and it was not a SG, but a Cyclops! I did not even con him, I just jumped right in. I got the kill and the ring. I had to tell people of my fortune, but alas no one believed me in the zone. Well it was just one other guy hehe.

Just killed the AC in S ro about 10 minutes ago... didnt kill anything at all in the zone before he poped. Oh wait i did kill one mob. it was the Named orc.. cant think of his name though. then i looked over near the merchants and there was a Mob i had never seen before.. it was a Sand Mummy? as soon as i attacked it i saw outa the corner of of the screen the AC poped... so of course i forgot about the mummy and ran to the AC to find only a derv attacking it. so i killed it with 5 405 point nukes. verry easy.... but most of all verry lucky.

Oh yeah one more thing. The AC seems to be really resistant to Fire Based DD spells... Resisted Conflagration 2 times before i started using lightning based magic.
In my experence he wasnt resistant to Mage fire based nukes. Bolt of Lava and Char both landed nicely.

I read all the theories on how to get the AC to spawn. I got 2 AC's in 4 hours. KILL EVERYTHING in sight. I mean everything, snakes, spider, puma, if it moves kill it. The first night I did thing I started mid-day, on the second night the AC spawned near the Vendors. Well they got to him first so I missed my first AC. I was so pissed I camped for the night.
The next day I did the same thing. Started mid-day, and sure enough on the second night the AC spawned near the Vendors again. This time I was ready. Two nukes, 1 pet, and I had my ring!!
Now maybe I just got lucky. Maybe not. I saw a lot of strange spawnings but none I would say was a prelude to the AC.

In my experience, Hasten Bootstrutter is ALWAYS in the same place. He is right at the entrance to the Hill Giant area every single time I have seen him. He runs back and forth on one little stretch of land. Dunno the exact loc, but that should be easily enough information on where he is...
