It is advised to get the Quest items prior to looking for Hasten in Rathe as he will despawn after a certain amount of time and getting him to spawn in the first place can take hours with bad luck.`

The Shadowed Rapier is a TEMPORARY item that drops from "a shadowed man," found in several zones. Since it's TEMPORARY, it's best to get this last.

The Ring of the Ancients drops from "an ancient cyclops," found in Ocean of Tears and Southern Desert of Ro. In the Ocean of Tears, the AC spawns on the seafury cyclops island and can spawn in place of any of the seafuries. The Southern Desert of Ro AC has a much more intriciate spawn mechanic that can be found on his bestiary page.

You will also need the equivalent of 3250 Gold for the turnin. (325 Platinum works).

Hasten Bootstrutter is a semi-rare spawn in Rathe Mountains. He, or any of the mobs on his spawn cycle will spawn in the Northeast section of the map in the area where Hill Giants are found approximately every 6 minutes(provided they are kept down). Once any of these NPCs or Hasten spawns they will begin roaming throughout the zone where after running their route they will despawn and a new mob will spawn. If you set up camp at the little valley leading into the Hill Giant area every placeholder or Hasten will roam right past you provided they aren't killed by another player.

NPCs that are PHs for Hasten listed in order of how often they pop: Spawns are at exactly 4m 45sec cycles.
a drake
a grizzly bear
Brother Zephyl
Maldyn the Unkempt

You say, 'Hail, Hasten Bootstrutter'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Stopped, I have. Greet you, I do. What business do we have? Hmm? Speak up!!'

You say, 'Journeyman's boots.'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Journeyman's boots are what you seek? Ha!! Those I have upon my feet and disintegrate will they if my life is taken. Extra pair have I, and, possibly, [rare trade] can we make.'

You say, 'What rare trade?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Three things I call for and journeyman boots are yours. A [shadowed rapier], [ring of the ancients] and gold... 3250 gold coins I call for !! This trade I call.'

You say, 'What shadowed rapier?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Shadowed men, foes to all, have appeared. Many lands do they walk. Invisible are they, but for the items they wield. Seek them out and return to me a shadowed rapier. Return it with haste before 'poof' goes the rapier!! No time to camp have you.'

You say, 'What ring of the ancients?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Ancient cyclopes [sic] do march the land. Long have they lived and crafted the rings of the ancients. I must have one and you shall go and fetch one for me. Seek the lands of the oldest cyclops clans. Seek the plains, seek the island in tears and search the dunes for there is one who is last. His clan was blown from the sands.'

Give Hasten the Shadowed Rapier, the Ring of the Ancients, and 3250 gold (or 325 platinum)

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'The time to trade has come!! I am now rich and you are now fast. Take the journeyman boots and run like the wind.'

AC Trigger in SRO
# Jul 28 2001 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
This is my guess on how to pop the AC in SRO, it worked twice in a 3 hour period. There is an undead mob that will spawn in the buried tower near the southeast corner of the sand. Kill him, then quickly kill all undead mobs in the zone. MOST of the time this will trigger an AC or a SG. I was able to track the undead with "Sense Undead" while my mage friend followed and let his pet do all the dirty work. Its the method that made the most sense, and we got 2 rings in 3 hours. It may have been luck, but like I said, we got the rings.

Of all the ways I've read on getting this guy to spawn, I agree with this one the most. Here's my story -- take it for what it's worth:

Figgured I'd help a guildmate out with this quest (I'm a 59 Druid, so don't really need this item), and after doin some reading, pretty much picked a method and stuck with it.
Zoned into SRo and started tracking and killing every Drybone on the map. Easy with a druid this high -- agro them all on you then cast Upheaval. Bam, 8 skellies dead with one spell. Did this like 3 times.
Finally saw that little loner pop in the Ruins. Killed him and then sat down to med a bit, checkin track every now and then.
5 minutes after the one in the Ruins died, AC spawned. Killed him and guildmate looted. Nobody else was in the zone.
Total time spent on this: 1/2 hour, TOPS. Dunno, mebbe it was dumb luck, or mebbe there's something to the Drybone/AC cycle theory. If I had to do it again tho (and I'm going to this weekend), I'd stick with this method. If it works out like this again, (anything under an hour and I'd feel confident saying that this was THE way), then I'll post it and let ya'll know.

This is definitly the way to do this...killing the undead in Sro. Maybe killing spiders and other stuff in the zone helps..maybe it doesnt. I know one thing for sure, I have got this guy to spawn quite a few times by killing undead. Helps being a paladin with sense undead :)
I just run around killing undead and in time he spawns.
Only problem is I have been KS'd plenty of times because sense undead doesn't pick up the AC and I cant track to see if it is up.
So get a paladin friend and go kill undead...guranteed you will get your ring after a while....someone who can track would be helpful too :)

let me tell you my story about ac camping.
when I was on Lanys, I just got level 34 in oot with my high elf mage and my high level friends (49 paladin, 47 enchanter, 53 necro) were camping the AC over on the other island. I wanted to visit them and say hello. as soon as I got there and said hello to everyone, the ac popped and everyone told me I was the cause. :P well I didnt think so. on the same day I got frustrated with my mage because I couldnt solo things because of that damn faction, so I started another mage - this time a dark elf. when I turned 15 or 16 my enchanter friend said he would powerlevel me in sro. we were camping at the derv camp and he PLed me very well... I was 17 in only a few mins. when I stood up from medding, just because I was curious what was going on around me... when I was turning around I saw the AC standing right beside us just a few feet out of aggro range. I was like WTF and screamed "AC" to my friend. my friend killed it, looted it and told me that I really am a ******* lucky guy and he would multiquest them for me. so we left to get that rapier.... after 30 mins of camp we got it and we headed to rathe mountains. till now you could really think Im really lucky, but when we came to RM hasten was not up... anyway we thought it would be just a matter of a few mins maybe 1 hour. it was not. we waited there for 5 hours and that sucker didnt spawn. instead that monk and the dragon were spawning like crazy (the monk wouldnt despawn tho) after 6 or 7 hours we gave up and went to sleep. next day I got on and waited again about 4 hours without my friend. then that hasten spawned AT LAST and I called my friend to come online. of course we had to get the rapier again but that was just a matter of 10 mins. got my jboots at 17.... man I was so proud :)
few months later I started a necro on another server and camped the ac in oot at 44. had to camp for about 20 hours total to get that ring... the ac popped only a few mins before I would have given up.

# Jul 13 2001 at 12:31 PM Rating: Default

The AC in oot is lvl 44 plus. Ported then to WC dropped few Shadowmen rapior Dropped on second kill ported to feerott ran to rath mountains hasten was on track right away when entered mountains slapped the loot on him and 3250p. Boom Jboots. No set pattern Random spawn in Oot just matter of killing PH's. oh Yes the camp all night also popped me from 46 to 47 exp is also very nice and gained whole lvl there.
WAHAHAHAHAHA

This is one of the Quicky stories for the Jboots that everyone who camped the AC for 35+ hours hates to hear. I zoned into Sro with 2 guildies, saw and killed the cyclops the moment we zoned from Oasis. No waiting. Zoned, killed, looted and soon there after i got by Jboots.

Kindaaf
34 (hopefully higher now) Warrior
The Rathe

Ps. i just wrote this to brag that i got the AC ring in 1 min, no other reason really.
Does Anyone Know?

Ok, do you need to kill the AC in oot, and oasis?
do they drop 2 rings, or just kill 1? to the shadowman schimtats drop often?

Placeholders
# Jun 29 2001 at 5:52 PM Rating: Default
The monk is NOT, I repeat NOT NIX NADA NJET, a placeholder.

Got that?

Cause I have seen him up at the same time as Hasten; they were actually even at the same place running past each other.

Minimum Lvl Requirements
# Jun 20 2001 at 1:16 AM Rating: Default
Can someone please tell me what the recommended minimum level requirement would be to solo the AC in SRo or in OOT? I am of the Necromancer class and am anxious to hunt the AC but dont want to camp for hours only to get killed and be dissapointed. Also, can you still multi-quest?is someone able to give scythe and ring to Bootstrutter, click trade then you give gold and he gives you boots instead?Any info would be appreciated
RE: Minimum Lvl Requirements
# Jul 01 2001 at 8:41 PM Rating: Default
I'm a lvl 44 gnome necromancer. I held the OOT camp down alone without too hard of a time. There were a few times when I got resist with a cyclops and it became difficult. I don't think I'd recommend holding off on trying to hold it down alone until lvl 44. Not saying you couldn't pull it off at lvl 39, but you'd definetely have a rough time and run a fairly high risk of dying.
RE: Minimum Lvl Requirements
# Jul 04 2001 at 5:10 AM Rating: Default
I (a lvl 40 chanter) smacked up the AC in SRo starting with 50% health and 20m by fear kiting with a pet Tash, fear, dot, med, nuke, refear, med, nuke.

I do think I got lucky with the fears landing and holding tho (or he has a really low MR). Lucky that I wasn't KS'd and that his pathing started getting a bit screwy as I had neither Sow or Snare available (was really worried when he tore off at high speed with my pet lagging hopelessly behind him).
Resume
# Jun 18 2001 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I sort resume now :
After you get all the itens and the coins ( that are heavy as hell... if youre evil get your coins at ogres town ) you go to Rath montains... There are two placeholders for Hasten... the 1st is A drake... with a tracker u can take this one down to keep the spawn going... the second one is a lvl 60 monk ( prob for epic quest ) this one u will need to wait or log out on a shadowed mans camp to do the quest later... I waited to nearly 3 hours with only drake spawn every 25 min or so... after a lot of drake killing Hasten poped ( BTW GET a tracker to find this guy...) his fast like hell ... Hail him to stop and turn ALL itens at once... I dont know how to multiquet this but I am sure its possible...
RE: Resume
# Jul 25 2001 at 2:30 PM Rating: Default
Brother Qwuinn is NOT a PH for the AC! And I have seen them both together at same time. If he were, the quest would be to tough, because I watched him wipe out 35 or so Lvl 55+ chars in about 5 minutes. Use your heads people!
RE: Resume
# Jul 28 2001 at 12:15 PM Rating: Decent
Brother Qwuinn in not the PH, Brother Zephyl is however. So is "A Drake", and there is also a human druid ph, who conned btm at 44th, and was an easy kill. Rumor has it that Brother Zephyl will despawn in 2 hours (real time).
Getting AC to Spawn in SRO
# Jun 17 2001 at 1:37 PM Rating: Default
Ok- here's what you do. There's a Tower with open top and sides near the Wizzy Spires. This is the center of your attack. You want to watch this fairly often as you run around killing Tarantulas and Sand Giants. In this little building common mobs spawn- Dry Bones, zombies, madman, and mummies. However, they're stationary- they don't wander out. This SEEMS to be the trigger for the AC. On 3 occasions I have killed a Crypt Mummy in there and within five minutes, the AC has spawned. I don't know if getting 3 AC's to spawn in the space of 3 hours is the sure fire way to get the bum, but it worked for my group.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 16 2001 at 8:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Can someone just post how to get the AC to spawn in Sro instead of going through long boaring story about how you killed it but you lost it in a role then it poped again and you got KS and bla bla bla....JUST POST HOW TO MAKE IT SPAWN !!!
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 14 2001 at 8:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) all you people are farking retards. you guys have way to much time on your hands. and dont take up all the space on the page with this bullsh*t

If anyone knows how to multi-quest this, could you please post some info on it. I myself already have jboots, but I have another ring and want to get the jboots for one of my guild members. I dont want to go to Rathe Mountains and turn the items in in the wrong sequence or something. I dont want the items to poof by making a mistake.
So if anyone has the correct info on how to multi-quest this, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

the other day, i (who just restarted playing the game after several months) was being powerleveled in south ro at the derv camp by two of my friends (on Fennin). they had already killed several SGs, etc (in their spare time) when, while i was medding, the stupid cyclops appears. this is usually the place where i would hope my friends would have said "alright, we'll take it, sit back and don't say anything" or at least "bugger, run for it!" instead, my monk friend casually suntered up to the damn thing and started atttacking it. i (who was sitting probably 100 ft away) say the cyclops hit hard several times, and he fell to the ground. he then went after my druid friend, who already had low health (he was already casting on it, as it turns out). out of habit, i shouted "cyclops at derv 1" casually. of course, i had never heard about the thing or read thes page. and then, my friends proceeded not to say anything, like "you farking idiot, tell them it's camped", so i just sat back and waited for the other people to arrive who i thought were going to be helping. at the last second, i shouted "NM, it's camped" but that was too late. it turned out (of course) that my monk friend had feigned death, and they were just about to take it out when about 8 other people showed up and basically KSed. unfortunately, i really had no grounds because, well, i %^*&ing invited them. now they won't even speak to me, much less powerlevel me. i'm such a &^*%ing idiot.
RE: i am a farking idiot.
# Jun 12 2001 at 4:42 PM Rating: Default
I'd say your friends are the farking idiots. You didn't know, and they 1, didn't explain their characters to you (especially your monk friend's FD ability), and 2, they didn't tell you they could handle the mob. Also 3, neither of the dingalings choose to shout out that they already had the mob camped... so a big DUHHH to them too!

That your "friends" won't even talk to you over this incident just reflects on the bad side of EQ. I think playing this game can bring out the best and the worst in people... too bad it's too often the bad.
