It is advised to get the Quest items prior to looking for Hasten in Rathe as he will despawn after a certain amount of time and getting him to spawn in the first place can take hours with bad luck.`

The Shadowed Rapier is a TEMPORARY item that drops from "a shadowed man," found in several zones. Since it's TEMPORARY, it's best to get this last.

The Ring of the Ancients drops from "an ancient cyclops," found in Ocean of Tears and Southern Desert of Ro. In the Ocean of Tears, the AC spawns on the seafury cyclops island and can spawn in place of any of the seafuries. The Southern Desert of Ro AC has a much more intriciate spawn mechanic that can be found on his bestiary page.

You will also need the equivalent of 3250 Gold for the turnin. (325 Platinum works).

Hasten Bootstrutter is a semi-rare spawn in Rathe Mountains. He, or any of the mobs on his spawn cycle will spawn in the Northeast section of the map in the area where Hill Giants are found approximately every 6 minutes(provided they are kept down). Once any of these NPCs or Hasten spawns they will begin roaming throughout the zone where after running their route they will despawn and a new mob will spawn. If you set up camp at the little valley leading into the Hill Giant area every placeholder or Hasten will roam right past you provided they aren't killed by another player.

NPCs that are PHs for Hasten listed in order of how often they pop: Spawns are at exactly 4m 45sec cycles.
a drake
a grizzly bear
Brother Zephyl
Maldyn the Unkempt

You say, 'Hail, Hasten Bootstrutter'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Stopped, I have. Greet you, I do. What business do we have? Hmm? Speak up!!'

You say, 'Journeyman's boots.'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Journeyman's boots are what you seek? Ha!! Those I have upon my feet and disintegrate will they if my life is taken. Extra pair have I, and, possibly, [rare trade] can we make.'

You say, 'What rare trade?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Three things I call for and journeyman boots are yours. A [shadowed rapier], [ring of the ancients] and gold... 3250 gold coins I call for !! This trade I call.'

You say, 'What shadowed rapier?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Shadowed men, foes to all, have appeared. Many lands do they walk. Invisible are they, but for the items they wield. Seek them out and return to me a shadowed rapier. Return it with haste before 'poof' goes the rapier!! No time to camp have you.'

You say, 'What ring of the ancients?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Ancient cyclopes [sic] do march the land. Long have they lived and crafted the rings of the ancients. I must have one and you shall go and fetch one for me. Seek the lands of the oldest cyclops clans. Seek the plains, seek the island in tears and search the dunes for there is one who is last. His clan was blown from the sands.'

Give Hasten the Shadowed Rapier, the Ring of the Ancients, and 3250 gold (or 325 platinum)

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'The time to trade has come!! I am now rich and you are now fast. Take the journeyman boots and run like the wind.'

NO trick to it

OK everyone always has there ideas as to how to get the ac to spawn, I have heard em but I have camped him for 15 hours killing everyting at 1st then the sand mummy then just sat on the hill waiting with no one but me in the zone he popped. Then today powerlvling a low lvl killing dervs alone in the whole zone he popped again. I hadnt killed anything but dervs and no one else had either I honestly think he pops 2 times a day in either oot or sro thats it and its random just wait it out and have fun its swell!

What you're seeing is an AC spawning because the last Trash-PHer was killed by another MOB... usually this is a wandering Orc killed by a Mummy, or a Zombie killed by an Orc.

Orcs are well known for attacking Mummies and Zombies... that's WHY there's Orc on both the Regular table AND the AC table... to make sure they keep cycling, even if there's no Player in the zone to SEE it happening

Forcing the SRo/AC spawn for beginers
# Jan 06 2002 at 11:14 PM Rating: Excellent
There IS a trick to forcing the SRo-AC to spawn and some people (that link to S Ro Secrets is one) are ALMOST there... and I shall now fill in the blanks.

There's no timer, there's no cross-zone linkage to OOT... it's just a simple PH trigger... but with a subtle twist.

It's generally agreed that the AC is on a seperate spawn table... and that the 'Crypt Mummy' in the tower is one of the PHers... as is 'a Sand Mummy'

It's also been pointed out that killing EVERY mob in the zone, of certain types, can MAYBE speed up the process. (THIS is where people miss the twist)

People also agree that killing any SG that spawns helps (it doesn't... for the reasons below)

The 'regular' spawn table has at least 1(possibly 2) SG on it... so killing one might just be cycling the regular table. (I've personally seen an SG at the same time as AC). The 'AC spawn' table has 2 SGs on it as well as the AC... but what defeats people is the lawn trash that's ALSO on the AC table.

There's always lawn trash in S Ro... Shriveled mummies, 'a crypt mummy', Ghouls, Zombies, Drybones, Desert Madmen, Dune Terantulas and Orc Raiders all spawn off the regular table... but the AC table drops between 4 and 6 of these lawn trash AT THE SAME TIME... and ALL of these will act as PHers untill the WHOLE spawn is killed... and by the time a soloist or small group has killed 2 or 3 of those PH-trash, the rest are lost... mixed in with the rest of the clutter. That's why people think there's a random element to the spawn pattern... they just can't see how BIG the pattern can be.

The trick to beating this confusion is to have a tracker (pref a Druid or Ranger - Bard track is too short a range... Rangers must remember to filter their tracking in order of spawn, not distance... druid/bard track does this by default) who does NOTHING but keep his/her track window open ALL THE TIME... when a single PHer is killed, or a known group of trash is finally killed, the tracker refreshes his window to see what kind of spawn pops next. He can then announce it to the rest of the party who go do the actual KILLING. The tracker knows how many trash-PHers spawned, and if he can avoid refreshing the window, he knows how many are left before the next batch roll off the AC table.

My guess at why this hasn't been spotted before is that tracking classes don't NEED J-Boots (can already cast SoW/Selo's)

bravo bravo to be honest i thought i was the only person who noticed that as well lol ive never read the post on AC b4 since its obvious what hasten wants <proud killer and spawned of ac 9 times> no i didnt get the ring after the 1st with my necro gave away all others since all would like to have...

Bards have better tracking skills than Druids. Druids get max 50 track while Bards get max 100 track. Still this is only half as much as the ranger's 200. Druids do get better foraging skills if that is any consolation...

How we got the AC
# Jan 04 2002 at 2:34 PM Rating: Decent
Well me a guildmate a 49 Paladin went to SRo to hopefully find an AC and get the ring for him.

He told me that we had to kill all the undead after 8pm game time to get him to spawn and even then it might not work. Well Ill try and put together all the things we did in relation to what other people have posted on how to get him to spawn. Maybe someone can figure this thing out.

Alright we got to the zone about 7am Game time and just parked it at the DE gypsy camp. We waited there all day until 8pm. While we were waiting we got attacked many times by various mummies and such, killing them all off. One of thMoBs that attacked us was a Dry Bones Skeleton mentioned in a post as a placeholder for this guy. He attacked us at about 3pm which is also the time he was supposed to spawn. Now before we killed the skelly we killed a SG that spawned on a dune NW of the gypsy camp. This could also be a placeholder to the AC. Well 8pm came around and we split up to go kill undead. I killed about 4 mummies and not sure what he did. We were only doing this for about 1hr game time when he tells me hes here! Well I rush over and there he is by the Orc camp on the rock side. He went down pretty quickly and my friend got his ring!

Not sure if we were lucky or if we did something right? After going through these posts all I can suggest is to kill any Sand Giants or Dry Bones Skeleton that spawn. And we might have actually killed off all the undead but not sure if that is possible in the short period of time we went killing them.

Hope this helps and if someone else can piece this together please go right ahead!

hehe i just payed 6k for the ring on Firona Vie (its not No Drop), however on a normal server i would pay 10k for a multi..

my 2cp
No one should pay more than 6k...
# Jan 18 2002 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
There is no way anyone should pay more than 6k for the MQ of the AC ring or for the ring itself on FV and here is why... Traveler's Boots (T-Boots) can be purchased from a vendor in SolA for 5-7k depending on your faction/charisma. They are identical stats to the J-Boots. So if you include the 325pp (3250gp) That you have to give Hasten for the quest, 6k is MORE than enough to expect to pay for this item/MQ.
RE: No one should pay more than 6k...
# Jan 21 2002 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
T-boots are ALMOST identical....they are not insta-cast, and you must be stationary when casting. Not a huge difference....but it could make all the difference in the world if your bootsow runs out in a fight ;)

Before you warm up your (notably anonymous) flame thrower you might want to do your homework. Firiona Vie has different rules than most (all?) other servers and has much fewer no drop items. It is ENTIRELY possible, and even likely, that the ring is NOT no drop on the FV server.

Why are people so quick to open their mouths and start spewing vitriol?

Must have wasted at least 30 hours of my life camping the AC from time to time... finally tonight I just happened to be running through SRO on the way to Guk and he spawned right on top of my head! I quickly dragged him into a deep dune so noone without track would see him and finish him off before everyone piled in to try and KS him.

The LVL 51 warrior could solo the AC, if equipped decently. I have only killed AC in OOT, but his placeholders seem to be tougher than he is. The two warriors would probably have no problem with the AC, or the Cyclops PH's. Just watch out for camp stealers who train the seafuries and corrupted seafuries over to your camp. This doesn't happen often, but with no casters of any type, it could be deadly if you're fighting a cyclops, and you get a corrupted seafury as an add. They are tough enough when you expect them.

Normally, the mobs in OOT stay on their own islands, but will follow someone if they are already aggroed to them. A few jerks like to use this strategy to clear weaker groups off the AC camp, or even worse, to terrorize the people on the boat when it stops at sister island. I beleive they use memory blur, or atone, or some similar spell, to wipe themselves off the hate list, after they train the mob close enough that it will aggro on your group.

Got my ring last night. Here's my theory on getting him to pop. First, kill whatever mob is in the undead tower. Then, kill all the dune tarantulas to get crypt mummys to spawn. Kill crypt mummys to get another undead to pop in tower. It seems like every time the undead in the tower is killed, one of three things happens. Either an SG will pop (common), Sand Giant Hussam will pop (rare), or the AC will pop (very rare). Not positive in all of this except for the fact that every time I killed the undead tower mob, one of those three rare mobs popped. I got "A Ghoul" twice in a row to spawn at the tower at one point, killing the first spawned an SG, the second spawned the AC (he popped just southwest of the dark elf camp). Good luck!

Got mine on Christmas night too. Can't help but wonder if VI was giving all the AC campers a Christmas present. I went to Rathe Mountains to complete my quest the next afternoon and a few people in the zone said there had been an influx of people looking for Hasten all day, more than normal.
I logged into SRo where I had been camped off and on for a loooong time. I always camp facing the undead tower and, when I entered the zone, there was a high level wiz or mage sitting there. It was midnight and there was a drybone skellie corpse in the tower. I checked the zone population and there were 15 in the zone. I had a feeling that with the undead tower pop freshly killed and it being just after midnight there was a good chance for an AC pop. However, due to the fact that there were quite a few higher level players in the zone I was going to go ahead and camp about 10 minutes later and wait for a time when I would have less competition. Killed a few spiders for some silk at the dark elf outpost and sat down to camp. Suddenly, I heard the footsteps of a Sand Giant coming my way. Not wanting to be pummelled by the heavy fist of a giant while seated, I quickly stood up and turned around. Saw nothing, but could hear the footsteps getting closer. Turned around again and lo and behold... An Ancient Cyclops!!! Ran over and he attacked me, I was amazed that no one was on him yet. I looked around for KSers while I was pounding him and saw nothing, not even the high elf who was camped at the undead tower when I logged on... very strange. When the Cyclops was at about half life I checked the zone population again and lucky for me everyone was gone with the exception of one other player. I had no competition at all, I don't even think anyone else was ever aware of his presence! Well, I guess it seems lucky but after hanging out for over 12 really boring hours (off and on) in SRo I suppose I was bound to run into him someday.
Anyway, got my JBoots the very next day within 1 hour (Shadowed Men at WC camp had 2 Rapiers equipped immediately after clearing the first round). Never have to ask for SoW again... very cool :)

I camped the AC camp in oot for about 4 hours or so, and so many things spawned in his place. Then he popped, got the rapier, but hasten wasn't up in rathe, for about 8 hours i waited for him to spawn and no luck, all that was up was brother zephyl. does hasten have a spawn time?
Great luck

Got exceptionally lucky with the AC in S Ro. A buddy (40 Wizzy) and I zoned into S Ro, and before I could look through my track (31 Ranger), the Wizzy yelled that the AC was up. He was an easy kill for us, he conned white to me, and we soon were headed for Hasten. Lucky for us only one other person in the zone, and he wasn't nearby. Now there is a Wizzy with a nice shiny pair of sneakers, and he paid me off with the coin to get a wurmy (J boots of no use to a ranger). After all the long ugly camps for faction and other items, we can now say we're ahead of the game. Good luck to all you campers.
Hang in there

Go to SRo and hangout by the tents. There is no camp just whoever gets him first. Kill everything that comes along. I did this for a little over a hour and got the ring. With all the new patches it is hard to tell if anyone is fighting with the AC unless you are very close. Play stupid use it to your advantage and NUKE with everything you have. Because Johhnie Necro or Billy Blaster is gonna do the same.

I was fighting in Sro with my troll sk and saw the AC up..there were at least 6 or 7 people in the zone wanting to kill him. And I just happened to have my lvl 54 monk parked right where he was so I got on him and killed him. Some people saw him tho and started coming around and tried to KS him from but but I was just too damn good hehe. But I wanted to loot it with my sk but I couldn't with all the people so I had to get it with my monk. I don't play my monk much anymore so I was wondering how I could multiquest to give it to my sk. My gf plays with me so she'll help me out..what items do I need to give first to the little guy in rathe? and does the shadowed rapier disappear after 30mins when I camp or instantly?? Any info would be great..thanks in advance and good luck to everyone else doing the quest! Oh ya when I killed him that was the 3rd time I heard him up within an hour and a half in Sro..I didn't see the first 2 tho.

Multiquesting Jboots is fairly easy. It also appears to be very profitable. 3-5k per mq. Now, in your case, it will be challenging. First, you will need your shadowknight to be camped in Rathe mnts, near the area where hasten spawns. Make sure you have the gold already on the SK, and a fresh SOW on when you camp him, or a SOW potion. It helps if you have a druid, ranger or bard helping you to track hasten. Once you find hasten, hail him so he stops running. Make sure nobody else is around to steal your multiquest. Turn in the ring with your monk and camp. Do a /loc so you know where to go with your SK. You can turn the rapier in with the monk, or the SK. However, don't camp the SK with the rapier on him. If I recall correctly, the rapier is not no-drop, so have your girlfriend hold it, and give it to the SK when he gets there (since it's no-rent, and poofs shortly after you camp). If your girlfriend repeatedly hails hasten, she should be able to keep him from running. That way, he'll be in the same loc when you get on with the SK. Have the SK turn in the rapier and gold, and wham, jboots. If I am wrong about the rapier, and it is no-drop, just have the girlfriend turn it in, before you give the gold, or the monk, before u camp him.

Yes you can multiquest. I did it for my troll warrior on Tallon Zek with my shaman and they are both on the same account. Just hand stuff in...whoever hands in the last item gets the boots. The last item being whatever you choose of course, in my case I used the gold.

I started tryng to get my AC ring every few levels starting at 35. I used all the "facts" from online on how to spawn him and they never worked. i tried them all at least twice. then i decided that i should jsut be tough and sit there fro a while and wait, because i belive he is a randowm spawn. so i sat tehre for 12hrs on the weekend and still no pop. on monday i logged on in sro and it was 12am, ive heard he only spawns at night so i turn up the volume on my computer speakers to hear his steps and walked around. at around 4-6am when i was about to give up i saw him, killd him, and got my ring. totaly worth it and i hope this helps anyone who tries 30+ times with the so called "facts" and never got ti. jsut wiat around for a few days and ull see him.

I think its funny that people still think the AC is a random pop after all this time that EQ has been out. I have personally killed the AC 60 times, more so than any other player ive ever met. While there are random factors involved, At an average, I can get an Ac within 2 hours. The best guide for camping AC and most accurate is at http://mistakenid.org/SecretsofSRo.htm. on a side note, i'd like to say that those of you that have ksed the ac are representative of the worst elements of EQ. You are a bully, a coward, and a thief. All those 60 Ac's I've gotten have been 100% legit.

The AC in OOT
# Dec 07 2001 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
My group and I camped the AC in OOT from 9:00 AM until 9:40 PM PST. We killed every place holder that popped. The AC popped just as we where ready to call it a "day" and we got the ring. The next player who was waiting took on the prospect of a long camp. I received a tell for her in less than an hour saying that the AC had popped again and she got the ring as well.

I saw a similar thing happen last week. One group had camped the AC for over 10 hours and left in frustration. The AC popped shortly after they left and the next group got the ring. My group was third in line and the AC popped for us in about 2 hours.

It looks like there may be a pattern to the second AC popping after a long dry spell. Has anyone else seen this happen?

AC -> OOT / Sro Connection ??
# Dec 06 2001 at 6:32 AM Rating: Default
Well... after killing the AC in Sro today, something which was mentioned to me a while ago has sprung to mind. Is there a connection between the PH's in OOT and the AC spawning in Sro ?

I was lucky earlier when I decided to leave the AC camp in OOT out of boredom to help a fellow druid with the DE Corruptor in EK.. not a lot of people were on due to the Luclin upgrade and the time of day. After doing the Corruptor, I headed to Oasis to help out my GF's druid for a while before the patch. On my way through Sro, I bumped smack bang into the AC, which I proceeded to kill faster than any mob I've killed in my time playing EQ hehe.. noone else was in Sro at the time. The question I have is was it merely coincidence? or the fact that I'd been killing the PH's in OOT just a little while earlier.. hmmmm.. something to ponder over anyway =)

I've heard mention of a connection between Sro and OOT from a couple of people now.. but who knows, it could all be random ;)

Well im a 53 mag and logged on a week ago or something to kill some seafuries. I was camped at AC camp cuz thats where im bound to use the OT hammer when i get to many coppas on me. Well the camp wasnt taken so i decided to take it (lvl 52 at the time). I started killing the camp for xp mainly and the ring was an added bonus. Well i was bored and ended up camping for 10 hours. I was ready to quit but then he spawned. I was overjoyed and could finally replace my travlers boots with no cast time ones. well i killed it and looted the ring and gave a tell to a Druid who wanted camp after me, (druids always camping mag stuff IE quilmane in SK). Anyway i let my pet duel a monk there and while waiting i saw another PH after the ac. I was exited just waiting for the druid to come and 6 mins later BAM AC spawns AGAIN. Thats 2 times in 10 MINUTES. I nuked it hard and debated what to do since the ring is lore. SO happens the monk i dueled had a lvl 59 shaman who was broke heh. But he did have the components for thurg armor MQ. well i let him loot it and ran off with thurg boots and ac ring.

SO WHAT I LEARNER...HE IS THE MOST ANNOYING AND RANODOM SPAWN,,,good XP tho

Me and my guild set up camp. The object was to get the ring for the cleric. we were there for an hour and a half, then she logged off. The AC popped half an hour later and the people in the group were a ranger, 2 druids, and a necro who already had em. So by default I got the ring. Soon after the cleric logged back on...thats gotta sting.

After that I went to the shadowed men in WC and got the rapier in an hour. 2 rapier shadowed men spawned at once!

I only had 80pp but I managed to get the full amount real fast.

An hour later I had my jboots! No more asking for sow!
