It is advised to get the Quest items prior to looking for Hasten in Rathe as he will despawn after a certain amount of time and getting him to spawn in the first place can take hours with bad luck.`

The Shadowed Rapier is a TEMPORARY item that drops from "a shadowed man," found in several zones. Since it's TEMPORARY, it's best to get this last.

The Ring of the Ancients drops from "an ancient cyclops," found in Ocean of Tears and Southern Desert of Ro. In the Ocean of Tears, the AC spawns on the seafury cyclops island and can spawn in place of any of the seafuries. The Southern Desert of Ro AC has a much more intriciate spawn mechanic that can be found on his bestiary page.

You will also need the equivalent of 3250 Gold for the turnin. (325 Platinum works).

Hasten Bootstrutter is a semi-rare spawn in Rathe Mountains. He, or any of the mobs on his spawn cycle will spawn in the Northeast section of the map in the area where Hill Giants are found approximately every 6 minutes(provided they are kept down). Once any of these NPCs or Hasten spawns they will begin roaming throughout the zone where after running their route they will despawn and a new mob will spawn. If you set up camp at the little valley leading into the Hill Giant area every placeholder or Hasten will roam right past you provided they aren't killed by another player.

NPCs that are PHs for Hasten listed in order of how often they pop: Spawns are at exactly 4m 45sec cycles.
a drake
a grizzly bear
Brother Zephyl
Maldyn the Unkempt

You say, 'Hail, Hasten Bootstrutter'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Stopped, I have. Greet you, I do. What business do we have? Hmm? Speak up!!'

You say, 'Journeyman's boots.'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Journeyman's boots are what you seek? Ha!! Those I have upon my feet and disintegrate will they if my life is taken. Extra pair have I, and, possibly, [rare trade] can we make.'

You say, 'What rare trade?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Three things I call for and journeyman boots are yours. A [shadowed rapier], [ring of the ancients] and gold... 3250 gold coins I call for !! This trade I call.'

You say, 'What shadowed rapier?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Shadowed men, foes to all, have appeared. Many lands do they walk. Invisible are they, but for the items they wield. Seek them out and return to me a shadowed rapier. Return it with haste before 'poof' goes the rapier!! No time to camp have you.'

You say, 'What ring of the ancients?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Ancient cyclopes [sic] do march the land. Long have they lived and crafted the rings of the ancients. I must have one and you shall go and fetch one for me. Seek the lands of the oldest cyclops clans. Seek the plains, seek the island in tears and search the dunes for there is one who is last. His clan was blown from the sands.'

Give Hasten the Shadowed Rapier, the Ring of the Ancients, and 3250 gold (or 325 platinum)

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'The time to trade has come!! I am now rich and you are now fast. Take the journeyman boots and run like the wind.'

You receive: Journeyman's Boots

Anyone know what the head and note are for that drop off Boog in OOT?

THe head is for a quest in kaladim. You need both boog and goob mudtoe. one is an AC ph, the other is on seafury isle. the notes (there's one on each) tell you where the other one is. read it, then throw it away. The quest gives you an ogre war maul (junk), but I got 2 blues at lvl 35, and that was when there were still hell levels.

Where is the best place to hunt a Shadowed Man?

RE: Rapier
# Mar 03 2002 at 12:45 AM Rating: Decent
I hunted them in Lfay ... there is a Shadow camp there and it is fairly close to zone line if you get in trouble.

The MQ of the quest
# Feb 27 2002 at 12:01 AM Rating: Decent
Can someone tell me how to MQ this ring............ 1. What gets turned in first the gold and rapier or the ring.
2. How many seconds in between the turning in of the item do I have before the MQ becomes impossible
3. Do I need to have a specific level of faction with hasten to recieve the reward
4. Who gets the item the ring holder or the person turning in the gold and rapier or is the reward done by who turns in the last of the items? Thank you would be most appreciative if you helped with the info

MQ'ing jboots.

Well, the ring is nodrop so it is the reason MQ comes into play. Each part is handed to hastan one at a time in any order. Whoever hands the 3rd thing to Hastan gets the boots. As far as a time limit, the only things that would limit the time would be: A) Someone kills hasten; 2) Zone/server goes down; 3) Someone else may come along and give him the 3rd item before you can.

You can either MQ by taking 2 or more people to Hastan at the same physical time (safest way) or you can have one of your toons with 1 or 2 of the items camped close to where you expect Hastan to be (he follows a particular pattern) and wait with your other toon for Hastan to come along. Hail him and give whatever items on this toon (the toon that isn't going to get the boots) and then camp. Bring on 2nd toon, hunt Hastan down asap (he could easily start moving again in the time it takes you to camp out and come back in) and give the last of the 3 requirements to receive the boots.

The danger with this is someone else find Hastan to turn their stuff in and give him the last item and get your boots without losing their ring (good reason to choose ring to give him last yourself). The other danger is Hastan is a placeholder for a couple of named mobs, so sometimes people kill him to get the other mob to pop. I believe killing him wipes what you turned in before switching toons, thus making you go back out to re-obtain whatever you handed him off your first toon before you camped to come back in as toon who wants the boots.

As long as Hastan doen't despawn/get killed/zone comes down/server goes down, I think you could come back an hour later and finish the MQ.

We (30 Warrior/55 Druid)finally did it, took us 5 hours to complete the quest from start to finish. We had great timing in SRO. We spent 3 hours killing everything in sight. Finally the AC Popped and we were only 2 people in zone, it was great not to have any competition. Took an additional 2 hours to get rapier and find Hasten. It was well worth it. These boots are not as fast as sow, but the next best thing. Now I don't have to go around asking everybody for a sow all the time. I highly reccomend this quest.
Ring
# Feb 18 2002 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
I finally got my Ring of the Ancients today. I had previously tried killing everything in the zone, which did not seem to spawn the AC. (tried this for 7-10 hours) Today when I attempted, I killed the spawn in the tower first (something I was missing by clearing out the desert area earlier) AND killed all wierd named creatures I saw. The result was after about 1 hour- AC spawned.

# Feb 16 2002 at 3:30 PM Rating: Default
well i to wanted the ring not for the quest but becouse its cool. so there i was runing around and killing dervs for fun and some guy shouted "anyone camping the AC" well i sayd that i was and he said that i had to kill all mobs in sro to get him to spawn and thats kinda imposibel then i rememberd that i had read that there was some kinda tower in sro with a dry bone skellie and if i killed that the AC would spawn right at the tower. well then i think well i have to kill al the mobs in the zone why not start with that one. i find the drybone and play alittle with it and then kill it. then i sit down and wait. then just after waiting one min. the AC spawns like 100 meters away.

Littelblon 35 necro, povar server

p.s
the AC is realy easy it conned blue to me and my pet didnt eaven die. Good luck!!!!!

HOW TO SPAWN AC
# Feb 11 2002 at 3:21 AM Rating: Default
To sawn AC do this. Best to have a tracker. Wierd named mobs, SGs, and AC r all on a cycle. To spawn AC use track or find mobs with wierd names and kill, it will instantly spawn wierd named mob, SG, or AC. example:(N) for normal (W) for wierd.(N) A Desert Madman (W) A Madman, (N) An Orc Warrior (W) A Orc Warrior, (N) A Desert Tarantula (W) A Dune Tarantula, (N) A Shriveled Mummy (W) A Crypt Mummy, Also any zombies in zone will either spawn weird mob SG or AC if slain.

Was omw to Oasis from SRO to pass a guildmate a damage sheild to help with PLing. Heard those giant footsteps, targetted it. Lo and behold. The Ancient Cyclops.

I was so excited I had trouble remembering my combat spells. :)

Went down easy with root/dot/med method. Of course tried a couple of nukes to sped things up a little but each time my Starfires were resisted so I bode my time.

Estimated time of death was between 12am - 1am EST.

Just to through my 2cp in I camped the AC in OOT from 6am CST on 2/3/02 till 1:30am CST on 2/4/02 with no luck. This is the second attempt at camping the AC so I hope he will pop soon. He is truely a ramdom spawn.
Timing is everything

I finally decided to get a pair of JBoots for my 49 necro. So I jump off the boat and swim to the island. 2 others are there camping him, both mid 50's. They tell me they haven't been there long and would be leaving soon. We agreed that if the AC spawned while they were there that one of them would get the ring. I figured, sure, what are the odds... Well, 2 spawns later there he is, the Ancient cyclops. In easy kill for the 3 of us, he gets the ring, and I have been sitting here camping for the last 3 hours with no luck. Maybe I'll get lucky tomorrow....
No Faction Needed

Hasten is Beta Neutral, you dont need to raise faction with him.
Just hail him and ask him about the journeyman boots, then he will give you the requirements.
Got that AC... Finally
# Feb 01 2002 at 1:11 AM Rating: Decent
I finally got the AC tonight in SRo at level 40 with a 38 Pali friend helping me clear the spawns. I was concentrating on the northern end of the zone, being sure to clear out everything i could (not too hard with SoW potions, FBSS, and a healing partner for help with the SG's). After killing 3 "rare" mobs (giant rattlesnake, madman, and another madman), this guy finally spawned right next to the derv camp on the eastern edge of the zone. He actually wasn't too hard to take down, especially after my Runebladed Sword of Night proc'd 3 times in my first 15-20 attacks... I actually had him down past half health before my partner got there to assist. He went down fairly easy, and after months of the occasional camp, I'm finally ready to get those J-Boots. Now if I can stay awake long enough to find Hasten...

It's gonna be great to save money now that I don't have to buy those SoW potions anymore.
Nice people

All you people talking about KSing, i'm ashamed of you!! I was camping the ac againtoday, i usualy camp him for about 8hours a try, have tryed about 5 times, when all the sudden POP! he showed his ugly face. I ran up and to my dismay, there was an epic weilding druid and a 60 monk jsut finishing him off...i /sighed, and said that i ahd been hoping to kill the ac, and OMG the monk sent me tell saying that he was about to release loot, so i needed to click fast so somone else around didn't grab it!! i quickly grabed the loot, and then jumped for joy! the monk, lonefist, said he didn't even have jboots himself, but i think he had 2 acounts, because the druid was holding the loot when he said he was about to release, so i guess he realy doesn't need em.

People do ask from time to time about MQ, so I will share my recent experience.

Less than a week ago I MQd with two chars on one account and a friend holding Hasten. My first char gave Hasten the rapier then the ring, and my seconds char completed the quest by handing over 3250gp. Server: Terris Thule. 1st char: barb shaman. 2nd char: troll SK.

I camped OOT last week for 8 hours and the AC never appeared. I had people wait there for 30 hours. I gave up and continued to hunt. I was in Oasis with a guild member, hunting spectors and when he camped I decided to go to S Ro just to see what was going on. Well, Terrorantula jumped my **** and as I killed him and was about to loot him, the AC jumped me. Game time was 10pm. This is the third time in 3 days I have seen him and I killed him and got the ring! But right afterwards, a SG jumped me and I died. So, now I must go get the corpse and rest for the eve. I'd recommend hunting in S Ro, he spawns more ofter here between 8pm and 12pm game time. Also, the best way to get a randow spawn to spawn, is to clear the zone as much as possible. The more you kill mobs, the better the chance he has of spawning...

killing stuff like mummies and crap doesnt speed up the ac spawn, the time it takes to find other spawns to kill will spawn another ph/ac, yea some of those wierd named mummies r ph IF it spawned in the ac spawnspot, time goes by faster when you're looking for some stupid mummy or quading seafuries

I was out there in SRO this weekend with a Buddy of mine to get my Jboots and people do not care that you are fighting the AC they will jsut come and KS you any chance they get and then Say that they did not see you there and that it was not attacking anyone which is BS. You people out there that do this need to learn how to be nice and not LITTLE @#%$'S. Sorry I am just REALLY upset by this Oh well what can be done. Have fun trying to get your ring and if I KS you at some point killing the Ac welcome to the club and feel free to make your self speak like a Salior to me but after this weekend the camping the AC it is fair game now. That is so harsh, some people on EQ are real ******* =( I had one of there number the other day - came up and stole the loot from my party's HG kill in RM. I sent him a tell and he told me he didnt care that it was mine and basically gloated at having stole our loot. To make his crime worse he was a lvl 54 cleric so he obviously didnt need the money. I hope you have calmed down a little now and still regard the AC as being owned by the first person that pulls it. I pride myself on being a good player and always help if i can, i have saved countless lives and am nearly always the first to offer info to peeps when that /ooc call goes out. I believe that there are more nice people than nasty / selfish ones and i really hope you havent turned to the darkside that would truly be something to be upset about.

I know what you mean! Some guild members and I camped in SRO for over 9 hours to help one of our guildies get his jboots. After killing 4 SG and the named one the AC finally popped. While I was fighting it, someone came and KS'd me. We had camped him all night, and were the only ones there for a while. He was on for about 10 min, ks'd us and then immediatley camped. I know how frustrating it is to camp something like this, but there it NO reason to ks someone. Plz be considerate and think how it would feel to have that happen to you. We are playing EQ to have fun, there is no reason to be so mean and rude. Ok, I'm done venting. Everyone be safe and have fun =)
