Vrynn can be found in the Barbarian Fishing Village.

Hail Vrynn

Vrynn says, ‘Greetings, spiritwalker. I am called Vrynn. My wife Kyralynn and I form shamanic armor from banded armor. I make armor from banded [boots], [gauntlets], [sleeves], and [leggings].’

You say, ‘gauntlets’

Vrynn says, ‘The gauntlets require banded gauntlets, 1 crushed dufrenite, a mammoth rib bone, and a griffenne downfeather.’

  1. Banded Gauntlets
  2. Crushed Dufrenite
  3. Mammoth Rib Bone (from Wooly Mammoths in Everfrost) and
  4. Griffene Downfeather (from griffenes N Karanas)

Dufrenite is occasionally, although rarely, dropped by carrion ghouls in Unrest and Clockworks in Solusek's eye and also can be purchased in the magic shops in various cities including Halas, W Karanas, Rivervale, Grobb and Ogguk for 150 to 200 pp each depending upon your faction and charisma. The ogre shamen in the camp on the other side of the lake will crush/grind/powder it for you. Banded armor is made with the blacksmithing skill.

OK, here's how it went for me (29 shammy)...

First went to EF and, since it was busy in there, it took me a while to get a couple of mammoths for myself. The rib dropped on the second one I think. Easy.

Next went to Yee Magic in Halas for the dufrenite. Also easy though expensive -- 154pp with Alluring Aura up.

Then off to NK. Hunted griffennes and had to kill about 5 before one dropped the downfeather. Again easy.

Went to FP to smith the gauntlets. My skill is about 70 and I got 'em on the third try.

Then off to Lake Rathe. "Crush crush crush" with the ogres and then some boat and swimming to the barb camp and -- voila -- new totemic gaunts. A sight better than my old gloves and a great quest considering the ease/time investment/return ratios.

Happy Trails!

Medium?
# Mar 15 2002 at 2:54 AM Rating: Default
What does a master smith gotta do? Anyhow, this quest calls for a medium banded gauntlets. This item does not exist so please don't give any smiths a hard time when they tell you so. The item is called, simply, "Banded Gauntlets." By medium all is meant is what races can equip it; the medium races. This has nothing to do with the SIZE: attribute either. Some of the banded pieces you will use in totemic armor are SIZE: SMALL. It doesn't matter. As long as the item is called only "Banded Gauntlets," you are fine. A shaman took a big risk to prove this and it turns out I am right. So, if you can, when a smith tells you he can make medium banded guantlets and they don't say that, don't give him a hard time. Thank you.

I hate to break it back to you bud but I have 175 smithing and I spend more time in Qeynos Hills than most people. Try checking what that mold is called one more time and maybe you'll be apologizing. Maybe not. Maybe for some wierd reason it shows up as a medium gorget mold on your comp whereas it shows up as a gorget mold on everyone elses. Check my similar posts under all the other totemic quests. Maybe you'll start to see the light when you read the replies. Infact, I issue a challenge. If you send me an email to JoshieC@aol.com with your acceptance, I will make a character on the Tribunal server and shadow you to Qeynos hills to see the medium mold and back to the forge in Qeynos and await this glorious medium gorget to show up in a trade window. If I'm proven wrong I assume the universe will explode.

i recently made a Shm (Vah Shir) and i so far got him Tot greaves and i'm doin the other quests along with geting other good items. But this is great AC and everyone needs AC, only sad thing is there is no wis or mana on Tot armor. But basicly once i get nother computer i plan to Group my Shm with my War or PL him, but till then i can tank at least to 20 if i want. and AC is king for EVERYONE it saves your *****

In short
Ok armor if u plan on taking hits(face it, your gunna get hit even if you don't wanna be)/PL'ing/or u are just bored and wanna quest

But if u wanna just complain about it you can save up a good bit and get better.

Gem Question.
# Nov 12 2001 at 5:44 PM Rating: Decent
You DO NOT need to give 2 gems to the Ogre to crush. Only one. This freaked me out forever because someone posted you need to give 2, and I did not want to waste any money because Dufrenite is so expensive. So you only need one gem crushed. Just did it today. If the guantlets cost 250pp to buy or so, why would you spend 300pp on the dufrenite to make them? You only need one Gem to be crushed. Just be sure to give all the ingrediants to the barb at the same time.

I see we need to harvest Mammoth Ribs for this quest. How many ribs do you have to give to do this quest?

Thx.

You can only get 1. They are lore.
size of banded armor?
# Jul 26 2001 at 7:15 AM Rating: Decent
Has anyone turned in any other sized armor besides medium?
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 10 2001 at 10:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You must now give two gems to get them crushed. I lost a gem when I only gave him one. Big money to lose. You then get two crushed gems back.
griffene feather
# May 12 2001 at 1:36 PM Rating: Default
I killed the griffene 7 times before getting the feather. Be carefull though if you solo. He hits for 30 dmg. Root, dot, med...worked well for the griffene.

This is a good quest, and the first that I did in the totemic series. All the items were easy to get, and I needed the int boost for alchemy. Although I think it needs to be noted that the size of the banded armor does not matter!
RE: gauntlets
# Jul 08 2002 at 12:53 AM Rating: Decent
You don't actually need the INT boost for Alchemy... your WIS is (should be) higher and it's the higher of the 2 that's used to check if your skill increases (neither has any bearing on a successful combine, that's purely skill)
Guants
# Feb 20 2001 at 11:09 AM Rating: Default
They are also dropped off of Oculys Ogrefiend in the Rather Mountains cons blue at 51 took me some time to kill him has alot more hp tehn the HGs there. He gave half a blue bub and some change and the Totemic Guants
For lowies:-)

If U have the $ to buy the dufrenite, its easy to get the guantlets at a very low level. I looted a mammoth rib bone at lvl 5. I spent 2hours trying to get a druid to kill a griffenne for me, but one finally allowed me to loot a feather:-). All and all I obtained the guantlets at lvl 9. I obtained a bracer at 17. If u plan on getting these by yourself U better be 24-25.

Kiting griffennes is easy for Druids in the mid 20s, snare, dot, careless repeatedly til dead. The downfeathers drop fairly regularly. Plus, the Wolly Mammoths in Everfrost (where you get the Rib) also drop tusks worth 10 p and are not too tough to find with track.
Its always best to buy dufrenite from players, who seem happy to get 100 p for it. For Wood elf druids you should buy the Dufrenite in WK as the kelethin merchant (near the bank) wants far more. Maybe it was the time I spent on bandits that got me good karanas resident faction. The merchant is at the barbarian camp directly south as you enter WK from QHills, she's off to the east a bit and looks like a paladin in all silver. With top faction and decent charisma (90s I get the full 9p5g for Concordances) its around 160 p.
The Gauntlets used to sell for 300+ but 250-275 seems about it now. As long as you're hunting experience giving mobs the profit of around 100 p each seems worth it.

Easiest to Complete
# Sep 04 2000 at 12:36 AM Rating: Default
This in my opinion is probably the easiest of all the Totemic quests to complete.

Mammoths are slaughtered by the dozen (Their tusks are worth a pretty penny and no one wants to carry 11.0 stones of ribs). Just keep your ears open when a level 1-whatever Shaman in Halas.

If you wait - then definitely get the Ribs when camping Redwind.

The Griffene is harder, but since she also drops a charm (Ranger?) you can team up.

The gauntlets themselves are nothing to write home about. (As is the case, sadly, with most of the Totemic Armor except the helm).

this quest was to easy, considering the item i guess its not, but if you play on pvp as I do its a bit tougher, sk lake rathe are DE zones, pain to get through without getting pk'ed hehe this quest can be done at level 19, its possible to kill griffennes and mammoths at 19 solo I just suggest you get a fellow shaman and do it, we kited about 5 mammoths untill we got rib bone for each of us, downfeather was a pain griffennes arnt common, I was able to take out 1 griffenne to 20% health at level 19, malise resisted, cold based and disease hit fairly well againest them, just dont go oom like me. Also on my way to lake rathe I picked up a bull elephant tooth and my partner got charger hoof, charger corpse was on the ground we shouted and no one said anything so we looted (sorry if someone wanted that) also ofr the bracers the cauldron shell is droped 3 out of 5 times for us, hope thi helps, good luck fellow shamans!

Aye, gettting quest item for totemic can be easy, I have spent several hours trying to find charger hoof chips. Nobody seems to want to kill the Horsemen. on the other hand I have looted several bull eletooths and shells from dagnors with little or no effort.
process Dufies
# Jul 13 2000 at 5:37 PM Rating: Decent
Enter SK and turn left along shore to the Ogre camp to get your dufrenite processed, meaning crushed, powdered, or ground. Hail each of the three ogres until it tells you what it likes to do to dufrenite. Then give the dufrenite to the right ogre for your quest and he will return it to you ready to take to the Barbs. They are off to the right of the SK zone entrance. Along the shore you'll see barbs and know that you must go up to their camp and find the two regal looking ones near the pillar.
Hail them to see who gives what item and give your components to that barb.
I gave Vrynn the crushed Dufrenite, the Mammoth Rib the Griffenne Downfeather and the old banded gauntlets and he gave me my totemic gauntlets.
Then celebrate with some kills in Aviak City!!
enjoy
so far so good
# Jul 12 2000 at 5:19 PM Rating: Decent
Got the ribs from a shout by a hunting party who didn't nned 'em in Everfrost. This si fairly common. The Downfeather from teh griffenne was hard. We had to kill many (gtm) Griffawns to get Griffennes to spawn.
Hint: Bring a Ranger to NK for this part.
The Dufrenite is expenzive, and I had a good friend give me this one.
It has to be crushed, apparently in Lake Rathe by an ogre who when hailed
will say he can "crush crush crush" it.
As for Vrynn, with any luck someone in Lake Rathe can tell me where to find this NPC and turn in the stuff, after I get the dufie crushed.
