Vrynn can be found in the Barbarian Fishing Village.

Hail Vrynn

Vrynn says, 'Greetings, spiritwalker. I am called Vrynn. My wife Kyralynn and I form shamanic armor from banded armor. I make armor from banded [boots], [gauntlets], [sleeves], and [leggings].'

You say, 'sleeves'

Vrynn says, 'The sleeves require banded sleeves, 1 ground dufrenite, ghoul carrion from Estate of Unrest, and charger hoof chips.'

  1. Banded Sleeves
  2. Ground Dufrenite
  3. Ghoul Carrion (from Unrest) and
  4. Charger Hoof Chips (from centaur charger in SK - very rare drop)

Dufrenite is occasionally, although rarely, dropped by carrion ghouls in Unrest and Clockworks in Solusek's eye and also can be purchased in the magic shops in various cities including Halas, W Karanas, Rivervale, Grobb and Ogguk for 150 to 200 pp each depending upon your faction and charisma. The ogre shaman Punga in the camp on the other side of the lake will crush/grind/powder it for you. Banded armor is made with the blacksmithing skill.

I got all the parts and the drufenite and then went and had it crushed by the ogres. Went to do turn in and am handed back the crushed dufrenite. I needed ground dufrenite. I have researched the forums and it doesn't even come up as an item when researched. Where do you get the ground Dufrenite and btw, he did not give me any of the other components back that I have spent many hours collecting. Only the dufrenite and asked if I had the other item instead

Good answers all around. Hopefully Waleldar didn't wait around for a response (original post was from 2006).
Multiquestable?

I was helping my shaman friend kill aqua goblin tidal lords in Dagnor's Cauldron, and popped over to Unrest for a couple of hours when he wasn't online. I believe he has the hoof chip, and I was lucky enough to loot a ghoul carrion, so here's my question: Can the vambraces be multiquested? I'd love to make him happy, but if he needs to have the carrion himself, it would be nice to know before we leave the area.

Medium?
# Mar 15 2002 at 3:05 AM Rating: Default
What does a master smith gotta do? Anyhow, this quest calls for a medium banded sleeve. This item does not exist so please don't give any smiths a hard time when they tell you so. The item is called, simply, "Banded Sleeves." By medium all is meant is what races can equip it; the medium races. This has nothing to do with the SIZE: attribute either. Some of the banded pieces you will use in totemic armor are SIZE: SMALL. It doesn't matter. As long as the item is called only "Banded Sleeves," you are fine. A shaman took a big risk to prove this and it turns out I am right. So, if you can, when a smith tells you he can make medium banded sleeves and they don't say that, don't give him a hard time. Thank you.

TIP: Bring a higher-lvl melee friend with you, and this goes alot faster.

I camped the centaur village with my 53 warrior and just slaughtered cents for 2 hours. The spawn rate on the cents was VERY fast, and it was virtually non-stop killing. LOL had to be at least 100 cents. Was actually quite a sight to see the bodies strewn about. None of them aggro at lv 53.

During those 2 hours, about 8 chargers spawned. Last one dropped the chips. I can't IMAGINE trying to do this at lv 30. Too many cents to kill, unless you get lucky. On the bright side, I pulled in around 250pp in gems/ringmail/cash.

Please DON'T kill the named cents. As a warrior, I could imagine how pissed I'd be if I strolled into SK to hand in my crafted armor quests only to find the guys dead.

There are also wandering Centaurs, all of which are PHs for Chargers, these are lower level than the Chargers themselves and should be easy for a level 30 shammy to solo.

Here's a tip from a shammy that has most of the totemic quest parts at level 30:
The totemic quest seems to be designed to groom 23-25 shamans up to 35 shamans. YOu will hate doing this qwest if you start at 30 and decide it is time to start. When your level 7 hunting cats in everfrost plains, give a shout out to see if anyone is hunting mamoths. If so, ask them to give yo ua tell if they find a rib bone. ALternatively you can come back at around 26 and find a group to kill these beast. At 22 go to unrest for some mean leveling, gaurentte you will kill a carion ghoul and he will have the corpse. At 23, hunt birds in sk and occasionaly ask a ranger if there is a bull around. Etc.. Etc.. The moral of this story is hunt the things for the experience and you will get the quest peace. Of course, spending the money on dufrunite when you have to put up for a bunch of spells is a whole different story.

The best way I found to spawn Chargers was to kill the centaurs at the stables in the northeast area of the zone. Be careful, though: the named centaurs there are high-level and tough.
Most Quests Suck
# Jun 23 2001 at 2:43 AM Rating: Default

I have notice a trend in EQ quests.
All the trouble and time needed to get these
vambraces really does not seem worth it, especially if they are only worth 300pp on average. Easier just to buy it. Easier just
to buy most quest items in EQ. Unless the end
result item is NO DROP, questing sucks and is
not worth it!!! Also, some quests have items
that are pretty worthless for the effort needed
to obtain (quest for) them. Finally, the levels
are usually outragous too!! This centaur is like
lvl 25... most people can spare 300pp just to buy
the damn vambraces by level 25. Questing sucks!!

# Feb 08 2005 at 1:13 PM Rating: Decent
If no one quested for these items, how on earth would you be buying them in the bazaar for "300pp"... is that enough said?
RE: Most Quests Suck
# Sep 16 2001 at 7:18 AM Rating: Good
I have to agree that it is easier to purchase non-no drop items, generally. I do not agree that questing sucks.

I enjoy questing. It makes me feel like part of the game. If you don't enjoy it you are defintely wasting your time and are better off doing something else. Ummmmmm...I guess with your attitude you should focus on farming for loot to sell so you can purchase all the quest items from the quests you are skipping.

Enjoy your farming! I'll save some quest items to sell to you.

I dont think you understand the part of this game! This is to the first poster by the way! Ever QUEST!!! that means that you are forever on quests. Which means that you are always busy. It would be boring if u could get the hardest quest done in 5 minutes because the spawns always drop what you need. Stop whining please and just have fun!

I too have killed nearly a dozen Centraur Chargers without acquiring the vaunted Chip. I was very sure of myself after getting the Feather off the first Griffene I killed, which ws actually a Rabid Griffene. Guess I'll just have to keep at it. Some day my friends, some day.

Carrion is NO RENT
# Jan 29 2001 at 5:10 PM Rating: Default
I was in Unrest the other night and finally looted the ghoul carrion. Needless to say I was all excited. However I was exhausted from the camp so I logged. When I logged in the next day the carrion was no where to be found in my inventory. I /petitioned a GM and he said he was almost positive that the item was no rent (meaning they disappear after logging or going LD). I was shocked to here Mob drops were no rent but he said that it is possible. So a suggestion if u get the ghould carrion and need to keep it u have to die and log out which keeps the item on your corpse. That is the only way i know how to keep the item if you have not completed the rest of the quest.

it was changed so now it is NOT NO RENT so there is nothing to worry about.

Yea anyone may do these quests, i don't know why. I believe that since its a shaman ony armor then shamans should be the only one to do it.
To sell to Shamans of course

This is NOT a very rare drop. It is more common that either type of Griffenne drop. Hunting Chargers powerleveling a friend we got three in two nights, and shouted the /loc because we each already had one. My estimate is about 15% of Chargers drop these. Maybe they used to be rare, but no more.

# Jun 03 2001 at 11:03 AM Rating: Default
this is one of those drops that is all luck-when doing this quest i got my hoof off of the second charger i saw.
now the ghoul carrion is another story-i spent 3 hrs on the second floor of unrest and still havent seen this crap drop-nor any of the dufrenite.........good luck to all who seek it,for luck has not found me.

# Jan 30 2001 at 2:36 AM Rating: Default
I have killed about 30 of those horses thus far and not a one hoof chip. I spent my time camping the Cent city, Am I running a string of bad luck...Hmm in my humble opinion they have been proven to be quite rare.

I also had to kill about to dozen before getting one, and a friend tells me the same. It is more likely the other guy had a string of good luck.
