This is a description of the Chessboard ring event. The chessboard in the Plane of Mischief is now surrounded by jester-looking mobs. One side has all white pieces (this includes the outer hallway: white pawns, white bishops, white knights, white castles, and white queens). The other half is the black pieces. Killing a white piece will always respawn another white piece, although it is random which piece will spawn; kill a pawn and a queen can spawn.
Each piece can drop an idol corresponding to its name, i.e., a white queen will drop a white queen piece. I never saw a white pawn drop anything, but the others did. Drops are uncommon/rare. There are two quest mobs, one on each throne. Ronald Brumplefoot plays for white. The event is timed, you have about 15 minutes? before it ends and the normal mobs respawn. You say, 'Hail, Ronald Brumplefoot' Ronald Brumplefoot says 'What does one have to do to win at this game? Each move I make they counter a better move. I sure could use some help.' You say, 'I will help.' Ronald Brumplefoot says 'Oh you are willing to help me? Very well I really need to end this game and put my opponent in check mate. You can either gather up four white pawns to bring me closer to what I need. Or if your willing to risk it all and go for check mate bring me one each of a white bishop, white knight, white castle, and a white queen. If you do so I'll have checkmate for sure. However the pieces can get a little lively in the defense of their king so be warned if you do so.' If you hand in the bishop, knight, castle and queen, all the mobs in the chessboard area will despawn, and 8 "a white pawn" will spawn around the board. The king has been defeated and the checkmate earned after a hard fought victory. The White King drops two items from his loot table. I've been farming pieces for a LONG time, had gotten every piece exept the White Queen. Thought it had been taken out of the game as I've easily spent over 500 hours here killing this stuff for fun. Just got one to drop, Jan 24th, 2012~

I can confirm that this can still be done for Black as of October 2008. The event is exactly as described here, although the queen in wave 3 is actually the_Black_Queen not the random spawn a_black_queen, though similar in level and power. (I presume the white version is likewise, and just mis-listed here.) Turn-in NPC for Black is Leea Brumplefoot, on the opposite side of the board from Ronald.

This can be done for either side. I've farmed the black side for pieces and managed to get up to the king with one grp. Its doable with 1 grp, but you need good dps and a good cleric, possibly a druid too. The event is timed, attempted 2 times and the 2nd time some ppl went LD so we didnt event get the king to spawn. For the black side the king flurries and the queen rampages, they enrage along with the castles. King hits for about 1.5k max, thats on a chanter, summons and got a good amount of hps. hope this helps GL

Immortal Forces of FV server has completed this event with 15 people. Since the final mob isnt even listed as existing gonna post some info. When you have the four pieces white Bishop, white Knight, white Castle and white Queen hail Ronald Brumblefoot. Say i will help, handing him those four pieces will start the event.
All mobs in chessboard area will despawn and 8 pawns will spawn around the board. Upon the death of the last Pawn 2 knights and 2 bishops will spawn on each side of the board. Upon those 4 mobs death the queen and two castles will spawn. When those three are dead The White King will spawn.
The White King is a level 70 raid mob hits for 1387max and quads, avg hit was 582 slowed, and he flurries a TON.
Dropped two items not sure if its his commons or not.
Comfortable Sandals of Serenity-nec,wiz,mag,enc
Manic Breastplate of Carousing-rang,rog,shm,brz
Sent in pics of mob and items hope it makes it to site.
This is a fun event, if you can get the pieces and the force to kill the king;)

The item descriptions for the quest don't say that they are no-drop. Could someone buy the items and then do the turn in or must you do the event first?

Did this event now up to 10 times.
But never menaged to kill the king himdself.
We where there with 1 party all the time.
The Exp is GODLY!!!
with a full party you get 3% aaexp form the first mobs. up to 8% aaexp from the last ones. The queen gives you 10% aaexp and hits for 900ish.
There is no loot in the whole event exept from the king.
King hits for 1500 quad and rampages like mad

I managed to grab one of each black pieces. Turned in and all mobs on the inside of the wall were replaced with pawns and those outside all despawned.
The ones that poped with the turn in were all see invis and I manged to MOSTLY slow one.
Seeing as it was only me and a druid friend we both died because we were very unprepared for what happened.
Brought two groups with me to help CR/finish the event. They split up and invis dropped and they all died. By the time we got back to the chessboard the event despawned.
( hour and a half I think )
The pawns that we had agroed stayed were we left them after agro. Which was right on top of the corpses >.<

Turning in 4 pawns gets your group experience. If you're in a raid the rest of the raid will not receive xp.

Anyone able to say which item you get for the 4 pawns, and which one you get for the bishop, knight, castle and queen? Thanks.
