If you are a good race the quest starts in West Freeport at the Paladin guild where you seek out Sir Artanis in the Halls of Truth at +820, -520, -125. If you are an evil race it starts in Neriak Third Gate cleric guild with Qrixat Du'voy in the cleric guild at +425, -810. The key trigger phrase for the quest-givers can be found within the EQ RPG GM Guide book.

Note that you must turn in the books in the proper order or you will get a message saying you should be careful with your valuable property.

Beginning of Quest (Good Version)

You say, 'I have received your summons.'

Sir Artanis says 'Yes ______, thank you for responding with such haste. The Knights of Marr recently captured a Teir'Dal wizard who under intense questioning revealed a variety of disturbing matters. First, he worships Solusek Ro, which is no crime, but considering the nearby temple's past associations with the Burning Dead, specifically Marnek about whom you recently delivered revelations, then his other information seems even more dire. Secondly, he has admitted that he was in Freeport attempting to contact the leaders of the Dismal Rage for he understood that they have nearly completed a phylactery, a device that holds the mortal soul of a lich. In light of this, we ask that you visit the Oracle of K'Arnon in the Ocean of Tears to learn whatever you can about the nature of these phylacteries, including the means to create one so that we better know how to destroy them. This letter will serve as proof that you come in the name of the Knights of Marr.'

Beginning of Quest (Evil Version)

You say, 'I have received your summons.'

Qrixat Du'voy says 'You have performed admirably in the past, so I shall overlook your tardiness responding to my call. One of our own has heeded the call of Solusek Ro over that of Innoruuk and is conspiring with that other traitorous cur, Opal Dark Briar. The wizard Salarz is a Teir'Dal now in the hands of the Knights of Marr in Freeport, but we have good information connecting him with the Dismal Rage and the Temple of Solusek Ro in a plot to create a phylactery. Somehow, this is connected to the news you brought from Befallen about the resurrection of Marnek. One who might know the answer is the oracle in the Ocean of Tears. Seek him out and learn what is required to create a phylactery so that we will remain one step ahead of any others. Go now and take this letter for the oracle with you!'

Meet the Oracle

At this point you receive a Letter for the Oracle. Take the letter to Oracle of K`Arnon at -20, -6730, -200 (updated revamp) in the Ocean of Tears. If you are KOS to the Oracle, you may charm him to turn in the letter. You may also raise your faction with him by completing the Book of Turmoil quest.

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'You walk a dangerous path if you seek to construct a phylactery. I can indeed assist you, but you must both pay my price of knowledge for knowledge and prove to me that you are capable of controlling the forces you might unleash. I seek six volumes of magical power and knowledge that are spread across the commonly known lands of Norrath and even beyond, in the planes. For each you bring me I shall instruct you on the next step in the process and provide you with one of the required pieces. Completing each step will require acquiring even more items. The process is time-consuming, but the power of a phylactery is such that it will benefit even a bearer who does not aspire to lichdom. When you are certain you are ready to begin, talk to my assistant, Jeyular and hand him. . . hmmm, where shall we start? I think it would be fitting to begin with a tome by the great lich himself, Miragul.'

You need to obtain a Tome of Miragul from An Ancient Construct in the Ruins of Old Paineel, a.k.a. The Hole. Give it to Assistant Jeyular, who stands next to the Oracle.

After the Tome of Miragul (Book 1)

Assistant Jeyular says 'An auspicious beginning. To reward your start, I will enlighten you with the secret of palatable mana, which is required to create a phylactery, but also has independent uses as well. Brew it like wine, but include a vial of mana as created by the ablest enchanters plus a pinch of this special sugar as well as grapes that can be grown only by the halflings of Rivervale. When you are ready to continue with the next step, return with the history of the Di'Zok and give it to me.'

You receive Sea-Foam Sugar. Now you need to obtain the History of the Di`zok from Loremaster Piza`tak in Chardok. Give the book to Jeyular.

After the History of the Di`zok (Book 2)

Assistant Jeyular says 'Excellent work. This book is not easily come by. This next step is the first of creating components for the phylactery itself, the silk insert. This is the base inside of the box and it must be made of durable stone silk to withstand the energies within a phylactery. When you are ready to continue with the next step, return the long-lost Journal of Aataltaal to me. His tomb is rumored to be in the Hills of Shade, and while I doubt this is true, rumor depends on some truths so somewhere nearby is where to discover this book.'

You receive an Insert Pattern. The Journal of Aataltaal is found in Kedge Keep off of Estrella of Gloomwater. Give the journal to Jeyular.

After the Journal of Aataltaal (Book 3)

Assistant Jeyular says 'Impressive, young one. I truly did not believe you would locate this volume. My instructions for constructing a phylactery shall continue. The third step requires the construction of the soul net -- the silken binding for inside the lid of the phylactery. This requires delicate and balanced threading that only the ablest fletchers can perform. To create this mystic mesh, you'll need the silk of a spider that itself deals with the immaterial as well as shadewood clips to attach the soul net to the lid of the phylactery. You must also use the glue I have given to you. When you are ready to continue, bring the book guarded by yet another spider, this one found in the Planes of Power.'

You receive Incorporeal Bond. The book is the Firebone Notebook off of Aramin the Spider Guardian. Give the book to Jeyular.

After the Firebone Notebook (Book 4)

Assistant Jeyular says 'My, my, you are serious about this effort, aren't you? This book is a excellent find from the Planes of Power and has earned you instructions for the fourth step in the process of creating a phylactery. A spellcaster may willingly give his soul to a phylactery to become a lich, but the process will not hold unless the phylactery can keep hold of the soul. The net snatches it, but a crucible of containment secures it. This sketch will help you get started, then you need merely follow similar, well-documented methods such as are used for a Crucible of Escape. The modifications should be obvious to one as talented as yourself. Also, the penultimate book I require is a bloody tome from Antonica.'

You receive a Crucible Sketch. The tome is the Sanguine Tome found in Cazic Thule. Give the tome to Jeyular.

After the Sanguine Tome (Book 5)

Assistant Jeyular says 'Thank you for this addition to my library. You're drawing close to the end of your quest. Only two more steps to complete and you will be glad to hear they are no more complicated than the first ones. The lids of the phylactery must be hinged and as no portion of the item can be of ordinary manufacture. You must fashion clasps of sealing. This mold will help you, but the Velium bits used must be enchanted and combined with a seemingly mundane object that yet holds great powers over the soul of an undead and weighs it down, anchoring it to this world. Undead elves especially are held here in this way. The results are then carefully filed smooth. Finally, the volume I require from you in exchange for the last information you require is the spellbook of the greatest living wizard on Velious.'

You receive a Clasp Mold. The final book is Velketor's Spellbook from Velketor himself in his eponymous Labyrinth. Give the book to Jeyular.

After Velketor's Spellbook (Book 6)

Assistant Jeyular says 'I am impressed by your efforts. The deeds are truly no less outstanding than my own when I stole into Miragul's Menagerie and stole a most unique tome and learned much of what I am passing along to you. The last step required of you will demand as much attention as all the prior travels and efforts to this point. Here is a decorated box I found in Miragul's laboratory that will form the substance of your phylactery. Once you have acquired and lacquered a precious garnet with the blood of a vampire, then apply the garnet and the five other pieces you've created to the decorated box and you'll have your prize. But remember, a precious garnet can be gained only from a god. As I find it unlikely you shall succeed in crafting a phylactery, and despite my payment in advice, allow me to thank you for your services in another [way].'

You receive a Decorated Box and a Token of Service. At this point you have all the recipes for the Phylactery which requires high tradeskills. If you don't have high tradeskills and are an int/wis caster you can continue on as follows to receive the robe or the tunic.

The Other Way

You say, 'What way?'

Assistant Jeyular says 'Look for Raotin Teawel, I believe he can be found on an island somewhere nearby where you would acquire a robe or tunic of Kael, Skyshrine or Thurgadin manufacture. Take one of those items and my token of service when you are ready and he shall share with you his newest creation, a robe or tunic of great power. If you are not satisfied with your robe or tunic, hand it to the Guardian of K'Arnon and he will exchange it for you.'

Raotin Teawel is on Aviak Island in Ocean of Tears at +1550, +4100 post-revamp. He didn't respond to hails or any sort of trigger phrase that I could think of, so I bit the bullet and handed him my Beguiler's Robe and the Token of Service from the assistant.

Raotin Teawel says 'Your promised reward.'

Int casters receive the Grand Robe of the Oracle and Wis casters receive the Grand Tunic of the Oracle. If you receive the incorrect reward (if someone has only partially completed the quest before you), you may hand in your reward for the alternate reward. The Plane of Growth Robe would not work for the quest.

Details on the tradeskills portion of the quest will be added as they become available. Assistant-given quest items appear to be returned if you fail the recipe.

Palatable Mana (Tradeskills Step 1: Brewing)

Quest item from assistant: Sea-Foam Sugar
Additional quest item: Moon-Harvested Grapes

The halfling mentioned by Assistant Jeyular after you hand in the Tome of Miragul is the "epicurean halfling," which may be found in Misty Thicket outside the wall at +885, +85. You must hail him during the daytime.

You say, 'Hail, epicurean halfling'

epicurean halfling says 'Hmmm. . . What? Oh sorry, I was snoozing. I was up throughout last night harvesting my [grapes] by the light of the moon.'

You say, 'What about your grapes?'

epicurean halfling says 'Why, my magic moon-harvested grapes, of course. I will give you some to sample if you would [help] me.'

You say, 'What help do you need?'

epicurean halfling says 'The specially-prepared soil that grows the vines for my grapes is becoming muddy again. I need more of the magical sand from the deserts of Ro to mix with my soil. Bring me that and I will give you some grapes.'

Give him Sand of Ro.

epicurean halfling says 'Thank you so much. Here are the grapes I promised you. They may not look like much, but master brewers tell me they are required for many magical wines, including some sought by the most powerful magic-workers.'

You receive Moon-Harvested Grapes. Note: you can still give him Sand of Ro at night to receive the grapes.

Experimentation has produced the following brewing recipes. Note that the sugar and grapes are NOT returned on combine.

You receive a Dark Phylactery.

If you give your Dark Phylactery to Assistant Jeyular:

Assistant Jeyular says 'Ah, you wish to perform your own alterations? Very well.'

You receive the original Phylactery back.

Melee BPs?

I haven't seen anything to indicate a Velious melee BP wouldn't work from the quest text. Has anyone tried it?

Some of the other posters hint that only caster chests work, but I'm looking for a definite.

I have a Druid and turned in the Cleric BP to get my Oracle Robe. I think you can use the Cleric or Druid BP for the Wis one and any of the Int caster robes for the Int one. Not sure but I used the Cleric BP to get the Druid Oracle Tunic

not positive on melee specific BP, but i used the melee / cleric BP quest drop to get the celric version BP for turn in as a druid, so any BP drop will work as long as its turned in for any priest / caster BP or robe. as stated before you can hand him the tunic back for the robe and vice versa depending on your needs
books or trade or both
# Aug 26 2004 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
Hi!

Question is , to get grand robe, do i have to make books quest , OR , tradeskills ?

Do i have to make book quest AND tradeskills ?

Why do you say to need robe from thurga ?
Thk , i do not understand all for my bad english
RE: books or trade or both
# Sep 02 2004 at 4:28 PM Rating: Good
After you finish turning in the books and get the Grand Robe/Grand Tunic, you do not have to continue.

If you choose to, you can continue to do the tradeskill part and get the phlactery. The turn-ins for the Grand Robe/Tunic part return the items required to start the tradeskill part.

For the final turn in for the Grand Robe/Tunic, you have to have a caster chest item from Thurgadin quests, Kael quests, or Skyshrine quests. When people say they "MQ-ed a robe/chest plate" they mean they MQ-ed the robe to do the chest caster quest in Thurg/Kael/Skyshrine, NOT MQ-ed the final turn-in to Raotin Teawell. MQ-ing the Raotin Teawell portion has been repeatedly reported as NOT working.

Hope that helps, Aasaa.

I am a cleric, I MQ'd a shaman breastplate from Kael. Turned that in, got my Grand Tunic of the Oracle.

Its leather look, which I personally preffer to plate but others may not.

You can get the link to work if you manually delete the "%3C/a%3E."-part at the end of the URL after clicking on it.

In other words, click the link, get the error message, click the address bar and delete the symbols mentioned above, and you should be golden. Hope that's helpful to someone.

MIGHT BE A STUPID QUESTION
# Jul 08 2004 at 12:30 AM Rating: Decent
Has anyone tried to just turn in the VELK's SPELLBOOK to trya nd get the last piece to get the advanced robe? or will he not accept it without the other 5 books being turned in before.. cause I don't see a way for him to know... just wondering as I am only interested in the FT robe.. and not the other thing...
RE: MIGHT BE A STUPID QUESTION
# Aug 09 2004 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
You need to turn in all six books since he tells you to turn them into him in a specific order. If you turn them into him in the wrong order he reprimands you and tells you to be careful. So he does keep track of which books have already been turned in.
RE: MIGHT BE A STUPID QUESTION
# Jul 21 2004 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
You have to turn in all 6 books to get the Token of Service...The token and a Velious Chest armor piece is what will get you the tunic/robe...the tradeskill items will get you the Phylactery...Fails on the tradeskill items will return the item provided by the quest but will eat the items you farm...

The worst item to farm by far was the spiritual anchor...I succeeded the smithing combine with a skill of 184...

Okay i need some help i cant find the torn enchanted silk robe i kael, i spent like 7 hours there in arena (was a grp with time/qvicgeared ppl) so we killed pritty fast but not a single drop of that robe (even vindi came down)

Ca anyone plz tell me where it drops

you dont need a robe pattern. you can turn in literally any priest or caster thurb bp. while farming faction in Tormax's room a plate BP dropped, which i turned in for a cleric thurg bp, and used that to get the robe. so get a chain bp and turn it into the shaman guy, a plate to the cleric, or a leather to the druid (can get them MQ'd to yourself too)
RE: Where does torn enchanted silk robe drop?
# Jul 05 2004 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
The robe definitely drops in the Arena area. I'm not sure where else in Kael it may drop, but the Arena is one of them.

That said, in all the time I've spent in Kael with 3 chars, I have seen the robe drop twice in the Arena. Once in what was probably late 2002 and again when I did this quest. We camped the arena for about 4-5 hours a session about 6 or 7 times before the robe dropped.
Graphic

faction?

Won't give me the note. I'm ogre shadowknight. Tried dark elf illusion potion to see if that helped faction. Still dubious. Any ideas? What faction is she on? Can I skip the note and still do the quest? How do I raise Qrixat faction?

[Sun Jun 27 21:32:19 2004] You say, 'I received your summons.'
[Sun Jun 27 21:32:20 2004] Qrixat Du`voy says 'Your particular 'talents' are not needed for this task. I am sure you can find something else to occupy your time. Now be gone.'
[Sun Jun 27 21:32:32 2004] Qrixat Du`voy glowers at you dubiously -- she appears to be quite formidable.

Confirmed, 5/25/2004, I did all the turn-ins for my mage (from the letter to the Oracle through the books) by taking the item, click on the assistant/oracle to open the trade window, then have grouped member invis. Click trade. You get the items/responses. Did the whole thing easy.

Raotin Teawel was amiable. The item ends up on your cursor when you do the Raotin turn-in. I almost had a heart attack because there's no message other than the "Your promised ..." in white text and no quest-noise.

GL all.

Is there a list anywhere that tells the trivial of each phylactery combine? How high is "high" exactly? 150-160? which is about what I have now or is it more like 200- 250?

All I could find is that the sugar recipie was failed twice with 175 skill in brewing.

Any info would be greatly appreciated... thanks

Trivials are around 220-230 but easy difficulty for sure. All but tailoring/smithing are not too hard to raise to 200 which will do EASILY using a skill mod.
On tailoring (the suck is strong with this one!) I used the 159 skill I had after Wu's. You must use a geerlok to let you even attempt the quest combines but I got 1 outta 2 attempts both times. And well... camping the quest bits 3x will take a tiny fraction of the time you would spend becoming a 200+ tailor.

6 stone silks took me 4 or 5 hours. The phase spider stuff not any longer.
So the tradeskill parts arent THAT bad really. Being a persistent camper will let you slack a lot on those. :)

Yes, you can use a cleric BP as a druid. It has been tested with pretty much any combination.

If you are a class that can wear the Grand Robe or Grand Tunic, you can turn in any breastplate (cleric, shaman, druid, magician, wizard, enchanter, or necromancer) from Thurgadin, Skyshrine, or Kael Drakkel. It doesn't have to be the same as your class. You will receive the Grand Robe or Grand Tunic based on your own class, not the class of the BP you turn in. If you do somehow get the wrong item (Robe or Tunic), you can turn it in to Assistant Jeyular and he will swap it for the other one.

I am threatingly with oracle and assistant. I did the Book of Turmoil quest and it only raised my faction with Dark bargainers and the dread guard. I turned in the book to the oracle and got exp but no faction hit. Any ideas on how to raise faction with the assistant? I assume he is on same faction as oracle and only quest I see that raises that faction is the book of scale.

thanks

Chanter charmed oracle so i could hand it note but could not charm the assistant. Handed Miragul tome to assistant who promptly ate it and said he not help folks like me.

You never get faction hits when doing a turn-in to a charmed mob; this is by design. What you need to do is pacify the Oracle (using a spell like Pacification or something), then trade with him from max range. He'll accept the book from you even if you're KoS like this, and you'll get the faction hits. You'll probably have to do this a couple of hundred times to get your faction to non-KOS. I'm not sure if Dubious is enough to do the turn-ins with the Assistant; if not, expect hundreds if not thousands of turn-ins to get to apprehensive or better.

Thanks. I tried that today and with 12 books became dubious. Either got big hits or I was just barely threatingly. Gave assistant the Journal since it about 2k in bazaar and he handed it back and said he did not ask for that so thinking I might be ok. Getting another Miragul tome and trying again since he ate my first one.

I confirm what has been said in the Grand Robe of the Oracle threads : the FT4 robe/tunic cannot be MQ'ed (multiquest 'ed)

I handed the 6 books to Assistant Jeyular, I ended up with the Token of Service.

I went to Raotin Teawel along with a level 55 mage friend who had the Arch Mage's Robe (thurgadin robe). He handed the robe first and I immediately handed the Token of Service after. No message, nothing happened, NPC ate both items.(Hailing him doesn't do anything either).

Actually like it is has been said aswell, by giving each book to the Assistant you get some text, but in yellow color, just like the flags. I suppose Raotin Teawel only accepts items from the persons who have the "final" flag.

So TECHNICALLY if someone has already the FT4 robe/tunic and gets a fresh Thurg/Kael/Skyshrine armor, MQ should work.

Otherwise it doesn't.

Now for the hardest part : find a Skyshrine/Thurg Robe (Kael not being an option for me).

Caster Only

Appropriate classes should NOT read ALL, it rewards casters only. Nuttin dere for a melee class that they CAN use.

The reward that benefits all classes is the Phylactery -- it's an instant-click item that can be clicked from inventory, and it provides a useful buff that stacks with almost every other buff out there, save for a very few high-end effects.

Remember that from a game-lore perspective, the actual reward for this quest is the Phylactery. The Grand Robe or Tunic is a side benefit; it's a "thank you gift" from the Oracle for providing him the books.

Tunic Reward
# Mar 16 2004 at 11:46 AM Rating: Default
Maybe I have not read this correctly, however, I am unsure as to whether or not the Tunic can be obtained from the quest without having a Thurg/Kael/SS tunic to begin with. Does anyone know if the Grand Tunic can be obtained by doing the tradeskill portions? Or do I have to already have a Thurg/Kael/SS type tunic to hand in? Any help is greatly appreciated...thanks.

No, you can not obtain the Grand Tunic of the Oracle without a velious robe/bp.

After you turn in the last book for the quest (and every book before it), you will receive a Token of Service along with the decorated box.

The token and the velious robe must both be handed to Raotin Teawel on Aviak Island in Ocean of Tears at loc +2190 +4240 in order to receive the final reward: Grand Tunic of the Oracle.

Regarding the velious robe/bp, you can use any of the quest patterns (chain, plate, silk, or leather) for the quest, as long as you turn the gems in to get the final quested robe for a class which can actually wear either the Grand Robe/Tunic of the Oracle.

do you have to be a master craftsmen
# Mar 13 2004 at 2:54 AM Rating: Decent
With the keal robe and the token of serves would that make it so you dont have to do all the steps in the taloring and brewing and so on or is that still a requrment of the quest?

You don't have to do the tradeskill portion of the quest if you only want the Robe/Tunic.

All that is required to get the Robe/Tunic is to turn in the 6 books.

You cannot receive the token of service needed to acquire the robe unless you turn in each and every book.

After you have completed that part of the quest, you can do the tradeskill portion as well to receive an additional item - either the Phylactery or the Dark Phylactery, both of which can be exchanged for the other at will.

Mana Crystals

Ok silly question I have Mana Crystals now. What do I use them for. I'm a druid and have my robe and Phylactery.

Has anyone tried MQ'ing the last part? If someone with high tradeskills got the token and turned in, then someone with the armor piece turned it in, would they get the improved robe?
Broken
# Jan 31 2004 at 2:25 PM Rating: Default
Quest is broken. If you complete Arrialla's Token quest in Felwithe and turn in the reward to the Oracle you get the Phylactery. Currently a huge line in Felwithe waiting to complete Arrialla's Token Quest.

This quest is hardly broken; it still works exactly as described.

If all you want is the Phylactery or Dark Phylactery (note the Robe/Tunic and the mana crystals), there is a much faster and easier way to get it. You can do the Sincerest Form of Phylactery quest and get just that.

The Guardian of K'arnon is for a separate quest, an alternate way to get the Phylactery. Alla's lists it as The Sincerest Form of Phylactery. All the NPC's required for the Grand Robe/Tunic quest and the tradeskilled version of the Phylactery are still in the game and working normally, as far as I know.

It remains to be seen whether the Guardian will still hand out Phylacteries when he returns.

They fixed it as of 6:30pm pst on jan 31st. tried handing to everyone, I guess it was worth a shot for a insta clickie. Dont waist your time, getting the spawns was a bear and now it is for nothing :(
RE: Broken
# Jan 31 2004 at 8:10 PM Rating: Default
Either been fixed or there's a second Oracle, and I'm posting this only a few hours later. Gave Arrialla's Token to the Oracle of K'Arnon and everyone around him and they just handed it back.
RE: Broken

Update: I successfully got the Phylactery by handing Arrialla's token to the Guardian of K'Arnon. Not the Oracle, but the Guardian standing next to Assistant Jeyular.

Now what I'm wondering is how this shortcut was discovered in the first place. :P
