    Short version

Once you reach level 15, you will receive a "mysterious message:"

A mysterious voice whispers to you, 'If you can feel me in your thoughts, know this -- something is changing in the world and I reckon you should be a part of it. I do not know much, but I do know that in every home city and the wilds there are agents of an organization called the Wayfarers Brotherhood. They are looking for recruits . . . If you can hear this message, you are one of the chosen. Rush to your home city, or search the West Karanas and Rathe Mountains for a contact if you have been exiled from your home for your deeds, and find out more. Adventure awaits you, my friend.'

If you are not sure what town you started in, you can also go to the Rathe Mountains gypsy camp or the SE corner of Western Karana. Once you arrive there, you will receive another "mysterious message" telling you to find a specific NPC. You need to find the person mentioned and hail him. He will tell you about the wayfarer camps and mention 5 more NPC's - one per camp. Head to a camp and talk to the NPC there and he will ask you some questions. Answer them and you will get flagged to use the adventure system and the Magus teleports that take you from camp to camp.

    Detailed Version

This is the introduction you'll see in Greater Faydark. Others will be very similar.

A mysterious voice whispers to you, 'If you can feel me in your thoughts, know this -- something is changing in the world and I reckon you should be a part of it. I do not know much, but I do know that in every home city and the wilds there are agents of an organization called the Wayfarers Brotherhood. They are looking for recruits and . . . If you can hear this message, you are one of the chosen. Rush to your home city, or search the West Karanas and Rathe Mountains for a contact if you have been exiled from your home for your deeds, and find out more. Adventure awaits you, my friend.'

You have entered The Greater Faydark.

A mysterious voice whispers to you, 'Enyaanuia Windancer in the tavern by Trueshots Bows has just joined the Wayfarers Brotherhood and has some information about them, and how you can start doing odd jobs for them. You looked like the heroic sort, so I wanted to contact you . . . discreetly.'

    You say, 'Hail, Enyaanuia Windancer'

Enyaanuia Windancer says 'Come to find out about the Wayfarers Brotherhood, hm? I think I saw you around here long ago. Because you are familiar to me, I will trust you with some [information].'

You say, 'I want some information.'

Enyaanuia Windancer says 'The Wayfarers Brotherhood is pretty particular about who they do business with. You will need to prove yourself to them. You can start gaining their gratitude by helping them. The Wayfarers Brotherhood will ask you to answer some questions when you first meet with them. They tend to call all of their assignments 'adventures.' You'd do well to keep that in mind as they'll be more likely to give you some tasks. There is other information that makes them easier to [deal with] too.'

    You say, 'Deal with?'

Enyaanuia Windancer says 'There are several camps of Wayfarers Brotherhood explorers around the world. In each camp you'll find a trusted Wayfarers Brotherhood member that has the task of recruiting adventurers that will take on interesting, and potentially lethal, [work]. Some members will tell you stories, if they think you are worthy of learning such prized information. Others will share their treasures with you, but only if you do work for them.'

    You say, 'Work?'

Enyaanuia Windancer says 'The Wayfarers Brotherhood believes in giving something for something. For each adventure you take from them, they will add you to their Favor Journal. With the points of Favor that their record keepers have counted for you, you can trade your good Favor for wonderful treasures and goods. Also, the more adventures you do for the Wayfarers Brotherhood, the more your Favor increases. The harder jobs get you more Favor, by the way. As you gain more Favor, the Wayfarers Brotherhood treasure keepers will let you peek at some of their more unique and sought after items. So, it pays to get in good with them, you see! And there's [more]!'

    You say, 'There's more?'

Enyaanuia Windancer says 'You should also know that there are five magi in the Wayfarers Brotherhood that have found very unique magic stones in the world that they are able to use to transport adventurers to one another. They have placed a magus with one of these stones at each large camp. They call it Farstone Magic. And that's not the only [interesting ore] we've seen lately.'

You say, 'Interesting ore -- you are messing with me, elf woman!'

Enyaanuia Windancer says 'We've found some strange items off the dead in the dungeons. At first we just thought they were simple things -- rocks, pebbles, gems, and the like -- and then we noticed they had very unusual auras about them. Well, one day, Morden Rasp was toying with one -- a shiny green shard -- and he went to scrape it with his dagger. Suddenly, the shard began to reform and fused with his dagger. While the dagger remained as fine as ever, Morden himself felt a surge of strength! So, you will want to watch out for these strange magic pieces in the world. Now, I suggest you go talk to Selephra Giztral, Barstre Songweaver, Vual Stoutest, Teria Grinntli, or Ruanya Windleaf. They handle all of those who are interested in working for the Wayfarers Brotherhood and getting rewards. Remember well what I've told you!'

You have completed a step toward becoming a great adventurer. Well done!

    In the Everfrost Peaks:

    You say, 'Hail, Teria Grinntli'

Teria Grinntli says 'Welcome stranger. I'm afraid you must answer some questions before I can consider opening our wealth of skill and knowledge to you. First, what does the Wayfarers Brotherhood call the tasks they will ask you to do for them?'

    You say, 'Give me adventures!'

You have completed a step toward becoming a great adventurer. Well done!

Teria Grinntli says 'We will reward based on your improving position with the Wayfarers Brotherhood. We keep a certain type of log that records how often and well you help us. What is it called?'

You say, 'It's a favor journal.'

You have completed a step toward becoming a great adventurer. Well done!

Teria Grinntli says 'Who discovered that some treasures have strange magical properties by poking one with his dagger?'

    You say, 'Morden Rasp'

You have completed a step toward becoming a great adventurer. Well done!

Teria Grinntli says 'Our brilliant magi use a special kind of magic to help teleport us between camps. What is it called?'

    You say, 'A farstone'

Teria Grinntli says 'Congratulations! I believe now that you are trustworthy enough to take on some of the adventures the Wayfarers Brotherhood have to give. We will be able to continue with our discussions once you complete some adventures. We can also help you with travel between our camps. Be well, fair Guiscard. I'm sure, someday, you will be a great addition to the Wayfarers Brotherhood.'

You have completed a step toward becoming a great adventurer. Well done!
Your faction standing with Wayfarers Brotherhood has been adjusted by 100.

Teria Grinntli says 'Take this Adventurer Stone with you on your journeys into the dungeons. You will find it useful. Should you lose it somehow, come talk to me and I'll replace it.'

    Rewards:
    - Faction with Wayfarers Brotherhood
    - Adventurer's Stone (needed to use the Magus portals)

These same steps will work on any of the following NPCs: Selephra Giztral, Barstre Songweaver, Vual Stoutest, Teria Grinntli, and Ruanya Windleaf.

Upon the hail that maxes out the stats of your Adventurer's Stone, you will see in red:

It's time to acknowledge you as a Wayfarer. Give Chaenz Abella in the Commonlands your Adventurer Stone and he'll replace it with your very own Wayfarers Emblem. Or, if it's being used in a charm, you must remove it to get your new one. And, if you simply destroy the stone, he will replace it with your much-deserved emblem. Just tell him you want your [emblem].

Head to Chaenz Abella in the Wayfarer's camp in the Commonlands.

Chaenz Abella says 'I heard you had become knowledgeable about all aspects of the dungeons we've found. I must confess that I never had you pegged for such a great adventurer! I suppose I should welcome you -- as a member of the Wayfarers Brotherhood. The honor is well deserved. Congratulations!'

Chaenz Abella says 'Here is a token of my appreciation. Should you lose your Wayfarers Brotherhood Emblem or misplace it, I or Barstre, Selephra, Ruanya, Teria, or Vual will replace it.'

    Receive Wayfarers Brotherhood Emblem.

The minimum level for this is NOT Level 1. I bought the retail version of the expansion, andclaimed the bag with my lvl 11 Necromancer alt. Then I got blown off, saying I needed more experience, when I started the quest.

(I wanted the stone so I could go do the upgrade quest for the Satchel, but it looks like I'll have to raise Ezrad a few levels....)

    COLLECTING ITEMS
    # Sep 13 2003 at 5:15 AM Rating: Decent
Does ANYONE know what to do with the NO RENT/NO DROP items you are told to collect? We ahve tried to turn them into everyone at the camp we got the quest from and nothing? I also noticed that some folks were not able to enter the zone (yes they had stone) and some in group did not get adventure point (yes they had stone and killed mobs). I told them to petition but since I only know them from that grouping I am not sure if they followed thru.

uhm it is also possible that the folks with your group havent download latest patch so they cant get inside the dungeon also in regards to failure u killed enough alright but your mission might be possible collecting certain amounts that your group failed to collect in a certain time. PRESS ALT V to see what the mission description and status on your collection / kills / target. Have fun this new version is frigin AWESOME.

you dont need to do anything with them (you don't even need to keep them once they are looted).

Bring up the adventure window and their is a status counter in the bottom right. It shows how many you have collected (assuming its a collect mission).

That's it. you don't need to hand the items in to win the adventure, just get enough.
Known Bug - Not all toons can get flagged
    # Sep 12 2003 at 2:30 PM Rating: Good
After about 5 hours with SOE support and running all over the game, I was finnaly informed that there is a known bug that not all toons on all accounts can get flagged. (after 5 hours, they finally decided it was not my problem, but theirs)

My luck is I happened to have one of those accounts and my main is the one toon that can't get flagged.

Just a heads up....even if you do it right, you may not get flagged.

    << edit updat >>

Heads up.. Logged in on 9/13 and got the wisper in Qeynos. Was able to get a stone.

I had my stone augmented my charm, but when I saw no stats going up, I then unaugmented the charm. Thus at first the stone totally disappeared. Was not in my inventory anywhere on me or bank. So I tried to redo the questions to get back, but they won't do that again. I come to find out after I did another adventure quest, and hailed the NPC to get "upgraded information" the stone magically appeared again from the NPC.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!! I want to know how it was lost to begin with, LOL, the things are no drop. The only way I can see it happnening is auto destroy is on and ya hit that instead of done to close the inventory window, anything else isn't possible! ;^) Be careful what you set to do auto, the lag monster may cause something that you'll regret later.

Actually, augmentation items like the adventurer's stone disappear when you de-augment the item they are attached to. That's right kiddies, you don't get your aug back when you decide to sell your pretty pants. It is recommended that you check your information before professing another's ignorance...

I would guess going back to one of the second step NPCs and hailing might get you some info. Remember, as he gives you the stone he says to come back and talk if you lose it. Perhaps by saying you have lost your stone he will replace it.

I have done 3 dungeons now, 2 successful and 1 failure. Most fun i've had in EQ for a VERY long time, this is truly a great expansion

Anyway, the way ldon works really, is you go on adventures and gain points to spend at the adventure merchants. The 2 I did that were successful I got 51 pnts, my friend did it with 5 and got 41, so you do the math.

There are a few different types of dungeons: Rescue, Assination, Mass kill, and Item collecting.

I have done rescue, items, and assination so far, all with a full group of 63-65. The rescue one was the hardest, as you first have to get to the person and once you reach him he attempts to run to the zone, but he will stop at any remaining mobs, which you must clear. Have to move fast on this one, and be careful, or you'll get 7+ mobs like we did =/

Assination was very fun. You clear to the end of the dungeon ( which is obese ) and face the boss. Our boss was The Flesh of something in miruguls laboratory. Necro, hit for 850, 3 adds with him unless you have some kind of pullage, and a spec pet. We had the ranger kite and root the adds, me ( 65 Bst ) took the pet out, and the rog/war/clr and some other class on named. The pet was easy, and after that I took the adds out, and when I finally got on named, he was at 20%, very little hp. He dropped nothing =/.

There are also the object to look at. Frozen barrels etc, targetable and hitable. Every single time I have hit them or destroyed them, they exploded or have been a trap. Apparently the new open item spells or a rog/brd are needed for these.

The collection one was easy, 90 mins to obtain 29 shards of ice or whatever, they drop off of any mob. We got 1 out of every 3 about, and finished with 30 mins left. We decided to explore a little...found a few barrels that but some BAD curses on us. One made casting take longer, on was a 200 or so a tic dot, that almost ate our party, and one that made you have 500 less hp and lowered other stats ( my agi went from 121 to 1 )

So thats my adventure so far, I look forward to doing more so the people at the camp will talk to me, they all say they're busy with somethign atm. For your first time I reccomend collection, as its the easyest to get used to the layout of ldon, all you have to do is kill.Have fun =) I freekin know I am

I took my level 56 Shadowknight Around, doing the quest to get my Satchel upgraded to a 50% weight reduction vs 25% Starting. Every zone I walked into gave me the whisper about going home, and everytime I was in a zone more than 6 minutes, I got the whisper again. I must admit they are pushy little bastards to get you to go home. So I go back to the wretched hole that is Neriak, and attempt to find Excelsior Cuisine. Passing through Neriak Commons, I get jumped by a Green Guard of my own people! Must have been my Max ALLY with Primordial Malice. No one else around attacked, so I called forth my unholy will and slapped that n00b guard around. i've noticed that the adventurer stone is an augment in and of itself, and it has the slot Charm on it. Does this mean that you can use it to augment a charm? Or does it just mean that as you do more stuff for the Wayfinders, that you can equip it in the charm slot?
    RE: Persistant
    # Sep 12 2003 at 9:41 AM Rating: Decent
It means that you can augment your Figurine charm which you can get at about level 45-46. The figurine also increases in power as you get flagged for different planes (or at least my Intricate Figurine does).
    how it works
    # Sep 10 2003 at 4:03 PM Rating: Excellent
as I didnt see this posted, posting it.. originally posted by nytrous, explaining how the stone works (or at least worked during the latter part of beta)
Current mechanics of the Adventurer Stone charm augment:

Max stats: 10ac, 10 to all stats and sv's, 100hp/mana

10 successes in *one* theme = 5 bits of knowledge from the adventurer stone quest NPC = 1 boost to your augment

    1 boost to your augment = 2hp/mana

    every 10hp/mana = 1 ac, 1 to all stat/sv's

minimum successes required to max out aug = 500

as much as that sounds, it won't take that much time... perhaps a month or two if you're an above-average of a typical gamer (in between "typical" and "hardcore")

    Currently I'm at around:
10 guk, 6 miragul, 14 mistmoore, 10 rujarkian, 10 takish`hiz wins... 8hp/mana on my charm aug (posted by nytrous)
    Quest Difficulty
    # Sep 10 2003 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
I have to say, once we got into the Quest area and started trying to beat the mobs down, it was a hoot, 55 mobs in 90 minutes. (The quest Given to us) seemed a little on the hard side, though the individual mobs where not very dificult to kill, the time frame we had to kill them in was a little more then we where used too.

    The group consisted of:
    58th lvl Paladin
    61st lvl Monk
    61st lvl Enchantress
    57th lvl Bard
    58th lvl Ranger
    and a 57th lvl Druid

The highest mob we faced was 58th lvl, Conned even to me (Paladin). and wasnt too hard to kill. the problem was forward momentum. With lowish heals we had a little more downtime the normal, though i stepped the pace up as much as i feared we could handle. (Cutting it real close once).

The math for each mob including downtime was 98 seconds each. Though each mob had no more then 4-6 k HP it still took us about 60 seconds to just kill them, then the moving and medding bit into our time to hard.

90 minutes later we where only at 42ish mobs.

Though we did get one +6 poison sv augmentation and a nice midrange Chanter/Monk Cloak and a decent amount of plat. (about 250pp) each.

Not a bad day, even though we failed to complete the mission.

    Wish us Luck!

A bunch of my other level 65 friends never got the message and cant start this quest either.

Good Job Sony.. Way to bug the level 65s.

This was meant as a reply to "nice but limited" near bottom of page.
Because I like to explore zones I am a little low for, all my characters regularly are invited into groups that are 5 to 10 lvls higher.
I like LDoN for the old fashion D&D feel and I as I have friends scattered throughout all lvls I have no difficulty playing within the 7 lvl range limit.
My first LDoN dungeon, a group red to me invited me to join them and it was a blast even tho one tunnel was rigged for a train. Group didn't have snare and mob took off like a shot even tho the same type earlier moved slow.

Ok, 2 questions. First off, when you get the stone, the person who gives it to you says to talk to them if you lose your stone. Well, as I'm sure most of you know, if you put it on a charm, then disolve it (to put something else on it) the stone is gone; forever. Well, my question is how do I get it back? Do I have to talk to the SAME NPC that gave me the stone in the first place (instead of one of the other 4) or can I talk to any of them and what word sequence do I need?

My second question, totally unrelated to anything here, is how do I turn my compass back on. =D I accidentally turned it off and can't, for the life of me, turn it back on.

    Thanx all in advance!

You do not have to complete this quest to use the adventure system. I went on two adventures before completing this quest. The reward is an Adventurer's stone, which is an augmentation for a charm. It "increases in power as you learn more about the Wayfarer's Brotherhood".
If you haven't gotten an item for your charm slot yet, don't worry : the adventure merchants will give you one in exchange for some of the points you get from successful adventures.

You must have the stone to have the NPC port you to the othere camps thoe.

    Uless you like walking :)

I would say get the stone first because I waited for 2 hours till I could find a group in my range, if I only had the stone.

You dont actually need to have the stone to travel. If you die and the stone is on your corpse you can still travel (as long as you are level 15 or above). I got the stone just after reaching level 15 and used it to port from Butcherblock to East Commonlands. I then died and lost a level and was not allowed to port back to East Commonlands again :) Luckily a friendly Wizard took pity and took me there so I could get my corpse back.

If you never did the quest you cannot travel but I cannot say for certain if you have to do ALL the quest to be allowed to travel eg can you travel immediately after you get the whispered message? After talking to the contact in your town? After talking to the contact in the adventure camp even if you get some answers wrong?

Just go to WK if you are KOS in your home town. Then head to the wizard portal and talk to the NPCs there. Follow the text until you get the text saying you are on your way to becoming an adventurer, and then follow his instructions. You will need to go to one of the other wayfarer camps to finish this. I went to S Ro and was tested by one of the NPCs before I was allowed to progress. He will ask you some questions relating to the guy in WK. Scroll up and answer him and you will recieve a reward.

    He's in the tavern.

Go as if you were going to the bank, but instead of turning right at the 4-way hub, turn left. He's in the first door on the left.

Finishing this quest is not a prerequisite to do the adventures in LDoN. Setting up an adventure is independent of the storyline, so there might be hidden advantages to having completed it.

If I am correct, the Adventurers' Stone is mainly a Charm that will increase when your faction with the Wayfarer's Brotherhood increases (when you do the dungeon Adventures basically). I did not get a Stone when I went in with my 52 DRU (he was a little over half way into 51 when I went into the Dungeon and was about a kill away from 52 when I left so UBER xp to be had in here!).

I *did* have a Stone when I went in with my 29 Dorf WAR, but did not check to see if anything had changed when I was done Smiley: banghead

Hope this helps and that I am somewhere near correct, lol
    Hometown Problems
    # Sep 10 2003 at 8:45 AM Rating: Decent
Well for those that may have run across a home town problem as I did last night, here may be some solutions.
I was born and raised in Kelt. in GF a Ranger Half Elf.
Well I was camped in EJ the day of the New Chaos by LDoN, and decided to travel back home, as my travels dictated my direction of travel I had zoned in to POK and received my 1st wisper from the Gods, which said to go to your home town if you where still welcomed, which I am and my faction could not possoble get any better.
Well not knowing you would get another wisper when you zoned in, NO NPC's would respond to me, spent 3 Hr's trying to talk to all associated with the GF zone with no success:-((
At this point very frusterated, I decide, I may have a bug and decide to reboot & log in. Still nothing, then I rezone to POK and get the 1st wisper agin, so I decide to go traviling other places, well in my travels I zone into Qyenos and low and behold I get that 2nd wisper. How a Ranger's home town changed to Qyenos, I can only guess.
Starting points are probably set for Alingment or quest's you have done for other NPC's is all I can think.

Hope this helps anybody, with the frustration I endured this night 6hr's later finally received my stone & went on or 1st adventure was a BLAST:-))

My half-elf was also bugged, however I traveled to Freeport, Qeynos, Kelethin and even the gyspy camp in Rathe. Not once did I get the whisper message and any attempt to "Hail" the Wayfarer's NPCs results in nothing said to me.

I bugged this and also petitioned a GM. The GM confirmed that some people are having problems.

Funny though, I first completed this quest with my dwarf with no problems. But my half-elf, nothing works - although I was able to go on an adventure - but I cannot use the Magus for porting between WB camps. This I found the hard way when my entire LDoN group got a far away assignment and all but me could port to the right Wayfarers camp.

Hope they fix the Half-Elf bug soon.

Mainly because i cant seem to find the NPC im supposed to. Anyone knwo which sunken wizard ruins they are talking about?

With a group of 54 to 61 on a quest last night. Normal and had to kill 58 of whatever we saw. We went into the dungeon, but I was not able to see anything except the other players names. Does anyone know what the settings should be for Gama to be able to see in there. This was the SR dungeon area. I tried many settings but to no avail. Hopping it was an eq glitch. The others in my party said was a bit foggy, but they could still see. Needless to say after two wipeouts, and 12 min. left and only 12 killed, we did not complete our task. Sigh a complete failure.

But if anyone could please tell me how to be able to see better???

Since I did not pay for LDoN yet but I did predownload all the files, I was able to quickly get the adventures stone; noticed that EVERY item that is equipable had at least 1 augmentation spot. I was able to talk to all the new wayfarers NPC's, and even started earning points and was able to "request" an adventure for group. To be fair to rest of group who did purchase LDoN I disbanded so as not to cause any first time glitches with my friends as they went to complete 1st adventure... Most common drops in guild entire night ia any new zone were slot1 type 1 augmentations with fire or cold resist from +2 to +5. I compared XP I made from RCY in KC to guildmate of same level, similar range group of players in level and class; I made 2X the XP he did and 3X the PP. Per level 60 guildmate, XP was decent in an all lvl 60 grp with adventure set on hard, and better drops- so try to keep your group as close to same level as possible and good luck all!
