Lord Qyzar is standing on the parapet one level up in the SK guild, at +1005, -150. For the Crusader's Test of the Hero, Lord Qyzar requires you to retrieve the [visceral dagger].

You say, 'What of the visceral dagger?'

Lord Qyzar says 'The visceral dagger was an ancient torturing weapon. I do not know much of it other than that it was forged by a member of the Brood of Kotiz, but that was ages ago. He is surely dust by now.'

Not much to go on, but if you find your way to the Crypt of Dalnir, you can find various scraps of paper called "A Journal Entry" which identify as "Crusader Nodfod 1-6."

#1 reads:

Day 47

Crusader Golin and I have discovered what we
believe to be the crypt of the ancient Haggle
Baron Dalnir. It would seem as though the babble
of the goblin slave we caught and tortured turned
out to be accurate.
Unfortunately we must rest and plan our route
into the depths of this beast. It is filled with
very dangerous creatures. Hopefully we can
overcome the odds and find the final resting
place of the Visceral Dagger and the Grand Forge.

#2 reads:

Day 48
Blast! This IS the Crypt of Dalnir. We found
the entrance which had the ancient Haggle Baron's
name upon it. How foolish of the crypt keepers!
The Crypt is filled with croaks from many races.
They seem to be in some sort of trance and far
more powerful then they appear. We were about to
enter the main tomb when we were assaulted by
the horde. Crusader Golin sustained a major gash
on his shoulder. Before I could cauterize his
wound, blood flowed all over, even this entry.
Tomorrow we shall try to enter the main tomb.

#3 reads:

Day 49
We finally had an opportunity to make a run into
the main tomb, but just as we had the
sarcophagus in our sights, we fell through a
trap door hidden on the floor. We fell into what
appears to be the true Crypt of Dalnir and also
a haven for coerced sarnak! They were upon us in
no time. We ran, but found ourselves in an
unholy church. We fought our way out, but just
as we broke through, Golin's skull was punctured
by what appeared to be a rusted Crusader's
khukri. I am now in hiding, praying to any god.

#4 reads:

Day 49 Eve
The gods were listening. After many hours of
hiding, it appears the beasts have gone to
perform some sort of dark ritual in the church
we found earlier. I could hear the screams of a
sacrifice and the chant of some unknown tongue.
I did a reconnaissance of this level and found
no way out. The walls had tombs built into them
as mortuaries do. None of the doors would open,
but I did find one. I slid the sarcophagus out
with much effort. Before I could attempt to open
it I was scared off by noises within the drawer.

#5 reads:

Day 50
What have I gotten myself into? Soon I shall be
dead. After finding the secret passage through
the drawer, I found myself in a pit of evil. I
crept through the shadows and came upon a locked
door. I am no rogue. The door opened and a beast
walked out, I spied the Grand Forge! Perhaps,
also, a way to escape this madness. There must
a key around here somewhere! On the beasts
perhaps. Even fragments which I could piece
together would do. I shall have to face great
evil once more. Gods be with me once more.

#6 reads:

Day 55
I have made my way past many locked doors and
encountered great hordes of evil. The forge
is here. Unfortunately I have learned that the
dagger is fragmented in the crypt. I lost much
in here. My good friend and along with him the
shard which may be a piece to a larger puzzle,
the khukri, Greenmist. I could never get that
back. I would need to speak with the Brood and
obtain a Crusader Coffin. But should I return to
Cabilis without the dagger, Qyzar would torture
me. No! Here shall be my last stand!

You can also occasionally encounter a spectral crusader in the room at +150, -340, -180, who does not respond to hails but will offer a few more clues if you ask the right questions:

You say, 'Do you know of Greenmist?'

a spectral crusader says 'Mighty was the mist which covered the land. Mighty is the blade wielded by a crusader.'

You say, 'Are you Golin?'

a spectral crusader swipes his hand toward his own head in a chopping motion. 'Stuck between crypt and dust.'

You say, 'What of the visceral dagger?'

a spectral crusader says 'Shattered!! Three within the crypt. A master must go. To the [grand forge] they must go. Three become one with the spirit hammer.'

You say, 'Grand forge?'

a spectral crusader points to the ground. 'Beyond the doors lies a forge unlike any other.'

You need to collect three parts of the dagger and the hammer used to reunite them. The three parts of the dagger drop from three different versions of a kly imprecator, each of which may be found in a different part of the dungeon.

a wry kly imprecator spawns on the second floor, in an alcove at +260, -885, -80. From where you drop down to the level, head east, then north as though to get to the portal that exits the dungeon from that level. Where you would turn west to go to the portal, go east instead, and follow the passage north, then west at the next junction, and the path will lead to the room where the next imprecator spawns. This one drops a Dagger Hilt (identifies as "Hilt of Visceral Dagger").

Next, drop to the third floor and head south from the landing spot to reach a room with three decapitated statues to find an undead blacksmith. His placeholder is by the north wall of the room at -45, -685, -190 (the same location as one of the journal scraps). He drops a Forge Hammer of Dalnir.

a shy kly imprecator spawns at the altar in the church area, at +205, -610, -190. He drops a Sharp Metal Shard (identifies as "Shard of Dagger").

a sly kly imprecator spawns in the last room on the left just before the dining room as you're heading south to where the Kly himself spawns, at +10, -155, -180. The placeholder is whatever mob is standing near the lab table in that room. He drops a Jagged Metal Shard (identifies as "Fragment of Dagger").

The Grand Forge is in a room down a passage on the right just before the Kly's room, at -230, +30, -180. Remember this location if you're planning to do the Greenmist quest, since you'll have to use the forge and the nearby tormented tradesman for that as well. The tradesman sees invis but is indifferent to all. Put the three dagger pieces and the hammer in the forge and combine them to create The Visceral Dagger (identifies as "Rusted Visceral Dagger"). The hammer and pieces are consumed.

Hello, and happy holidays.

I decided to try the quest again for the Visceral Dagger, and after some effort was successful.

I am Necromancer level 45. Currently I use a Gnoll Hide Tome and Stein of Moggok most of the time, so getting the dagger was not all-important. Nonetheless something that doesn't lower STR is handy to have (GHT lowers STR by 10).

The three Kly Imprecators are uncommon. I believe it takes luck and patience to endure the camping. The Blacksmith is common.

I arrived in the morning outside Dalnir, DMFed, and Invised. Went straight to the 2nd floor down to pool area and on to shackle room for first Imprecator. Summoned pet. After 3 placeholders he appeared, got the No Drop Hilt (looks like a tube). The placeholders were Goo, a Kly Follower, and a Nibbler (all green to level 45). No robe dropped, however the Imprecator did have FS and an Ancient Coin. In same room another mob spawns (for me was first a Kly and then a Coerced Erudite).

Down I went to church area. Kly Imprecator or placeholder spawns directly behind table. I went into "safe room" next to church to summon pet. I began clearing room, working my way to back, pulling to safe room. A random 'wanderer' paths to between 'safe' room and church. Kill this to avoid problems.

PET CONTROL IS ESSENTIAL! You must not allow pet to get pulled into or near church from "safe room", or it will die, followed by you. This happened to me three times due to lag, at which point I decided not to bother clearing room.

I realized I could single pull the Imrecator or placeholder once I ensured remaining Kly were not Kly Evokers. I am guessing Evokers are a higher level than the rest (Follower, Believer, Cohort) as they would aggro on a pull. When pulling with Dooming Darkness I was able to not get aggroed on at all by casting from outside aggro radius.

Here is where the pet control comes in: the casters being pulled will nuke or root you, and pet will barrel into church. Hot key "/pet back off" and be sure to use it to keep fight in the relatively "safe room". This means taking some spell damage, until target is in safe room and in melee range of pet. Of course lower than level 45 means that the single pull might not be possible.

While there drops were FS, lots of coin, a Sarnak Pitchatka(unsure of spelling: a 1H Slash weapon, looks like claw), 2 pieces of the no drop Crescent armor, and when Imprecator finally popped the item for dagger quest.

The church was longest camp for me. Did about 6 placeholders, then stopped for lunch. Went back a few hours later, did about 8 placeholders, stopped for dinner. Afterwards returned, and after about 10 placeholders the Imprecator finally appeared. About five of the kills were /con blue, and maybe four greenies gave exp.

Off I went to the lab area. While invised I watched a few minutes to observe the pathing of the wanderers. Between the water and the 'doorway' to lab/beds area I summoned pet and cleared wanderers. Again, pet control was key to ensure it was single pulls.

Once the wanderers were cleared I moved into lab room where Imprecator spawns (left side lab). There are two Kly in this room, and to break it I just rushed in and had pet on one and used Screaming Terror on the other.

The spawn interval in the lab room seemed about 15 minutes. All mobs /conned in and around here were green to me, although two did give experience. After about seven placeholders the Imprecator finally appeared. Loot was some coin, some FS, and the item needed for quest when Imprecator finally spawned. He also had an Ancient Coin and a tube of somekind for a different quest.

Months ago I had already gotten the Forged Hammer of Dalnir from the blacksmith, so I was able to skip that part. Once invised I went to the Always Works Forge and combined all four components. The Visceral Dagger was the result.

Spell used: Dead Man Floating, Gather Shadows, Harmshield, Feign Death, Screaming Terror, Call of Bones, Cackling Bones, Dooming Darkness, Torbas Acid Blast, Drain Spirit, Vampiric Curse, Steelskin/Diamondskin.

Hope that helps

Hail, first off let me start by saying that I am a human necro(lowest int for class). At this point in the game this is one of the items that is and has been on my mind for my character. At this point I have the harvester in primary and Stein in secondary. Thats +15 int plus other stats and deadeye. I was kinda dishearted to see everyone bashing on this item. It would give me 3 more int and a weapon back in my primary slot. Those of you that think this weapon is lame or you were disappointed in it post what you have in primary and secondary slot? Possibly what levels you can get said items. Also what level can you solo to complete this quest in Dalnir? I just achieved 39th level =). I know some of you might have been at this point a very long time ago, but exciting for me to get there finally. I have heard a lot of comments about DMF, is that necessary to complete it solo? Thanks in advance
Is there any thing to kill outside lab to spawn impracter?

There is no doubt in my mind that the lab room spawn is rediculously SLOW, i have been there all day (13 hours), i have yet to see one impractor and it is very disceraging. Why does verant make these things so annoying is beyond me. Its hard enough to cler the chruch by my self (44 iksar necro), then get set up in lab room to stay there for almost 13 hours with no spawn.

This is a major waste of time, this item had better be worth it cuz i am staying to say i actually got the item.

Good luck if your lookin to get this item, it really doesnt look "pimp" either, would prefer it look like a fer'esh then sheer blade but oh well.

Curses to the person who made the spawn time on lab impracter!

To answer your query as to why its needed to waste so much time on stupid camps in EQ:

Verant, being an amoral company (ain't they all?) charges you and others on TIME basis in form of a subscription.

If they can hook you (psccologically, based on your virtual need/greed) to waste more time within their online product, so more they EARN.

In short, they EARN on your subscription TIME.
(your TIME = their EARNed $)
That's why you waste time here, its a setup.

Not that diff when you put the eqation before you.

on the other hand... :

Verant gets paid on a monthly basis, no matter how much you played in that month. And Verant has to pay for the data traffic on the servers. So Verant actually likes less adicted casual gamers more than "approved-eq-addicts" that spend many many many hours a day to satisfy their virtual greed/need...

In short, they LOSE money on your online time.

How many needed to complete quest?
# Nov 21 2000 at 3:13 PM Rating: Default
I'm a level 45 necro :) would it be possible for me to solo in there, or not ? Not too familiar with Kunark, just been in and around Karnors.

I shall probably have either a Druid, or enchanter with me (my friend) who is around and above my level.

Thank you for the info :)

# Dec 17 2000 at 6:29 PM Rating: Default
I was able to clear the church (42 necro) with one other 42 necro. The way to do it is root pull to the safe room outside of the church. That way if you root one, and agro another, you can kill the agroed one, then wait for the root to break on the other.....one thing, make sure you have /pet back up hotkeyed, if a kly casts on you while the room isn't broken and your pet attacks, you can get a huge train :P
RE: How many needed to complete quest?
# Dec 02 2000 at 4:26 AM Rating: Decent
Church is harder to camp, since your pet will most likely pull train on you. Me and another lv 45 necro camped church with our pet, most part is not sweat, but got killed once when pet pulled train, so pet class would do great there, since lv 44 pet have no problem handling rest kly there.
good luck with your quest.
RE: How many needed to complete quest?
# Nov 21 2000 at 8:02 PM Rating: Default
You could do it the church is harder to brake since there are 8 kly in there. Lab is easy to hold solo and the shackle room is also.
You pet is obviously you best asset a bit tricky getting him summoned but you know that.
What spells are needed
# Nov 09 2000 at 10:55 AM Rating: Default
If you read the pages that are found around Dalnir. They tell a story about what happend, and who made the Visceral Dagger. In the story the dagger was never Finshed. The story tells us that the proper spells were never cast on the dagger. I what to know what spells are needed. Any ideas ? ? if you are wondering how to cast a spell on an item, think about how you make shadow silk and use the "never fail" forge in Dalnir
RE: What spells are needed
# Dec 09 2000 at 8:13 PM Rating: Default
Okay this just answered a question I have had for some time. I have been in Dalnir for the last few weeks lvling to 40 and have been intrigued by the story line of Golin and the Artifact weapon that he set out to find in Dalnir named Greenmist. If you all know the meaning of the word Visceral. Mean Ethereal Non Planer. I am a deap player of D+D and visceral is not a word that is just thrown around. It ranks up there with words like Vorpal high lvl weapons. Now if the story of Greenmist leads to a weapon of Artifact like power this always works forge might need to be looked at much deeper. There are a couple Items that are created in this fordge that have no other use then to weight you down. Here is my proposal and I will try it and let you all know the outcome. Long Iron Rod + Visceral Dagger = ??

I have also found a item Lore No Drop in Dalnir that has not been mentioned on any other forum called a LOST Scroll. It is in one of the Rooms on the third floor behind one of the beds. I picked it up and inventoried it. The thing in for the next few hours I heard this Acolyte say every 15 min or so Where did I put that scroll I was studying. Is this the spell that is talked about in the journal entries?? I will try to complete this and let you all know my outcome. Wish me luck !!
RE: What spells are needed
# May 06 2001 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
The LOST scroll is part of the enchanter epic quest.
RE: What spells are needed
# Dec 16 2000 at 8:14 PM Rating: Default
I have also found this scroll, and i have heard the Kly that walks around looking for it....but in my case it has always been a follower...I tried to ST him and give him the scroll i also had a chanter Mezz him and give him the scroll...Nothing happened either time so....i am doing the quest AGAIN.....yes i am crazy enough to go camp these stinking rotten Kly Imprecators again...I am planning to make the dagger again in the forge, this time adding in the LOST SCROLL into the recipe. of course we all know how long this will prolly take, but i will post my results here as im sure we all want to know if this Rusted Visceral dagger is really the end product. I really hope it is not, because i put the dagger in my hand and to do so i had to put my old faithful cup in my bag and I AM LOSING STATS by using the dagger. That sux and like the other person said by giving it the name Visceral it should be GOOD dam good
RE: What spells are needed
# Dec 20 2000 at 3:50 PM Rating: Default
Who cares about what Visceral means in D&D? It means having to do with the viscera, which is a term for internal organs. Based on that, this was may have been a dagger used to perform sacrifices or something of that ilk.

There is nothing about the name Visceral that should make you think it "should be GOOD dam (sic) good".

What do you expect? Planar gear in a mid-level dungeon? I've got news for you, for a mid-30s non-twink it is damn good.
RE: What spells are needed
# Dec 23 2000 at 8:24 PM Rating: Default
ok i dont expect planar gear...but i was hoping for it to be better than the silly cup i bought at level 10
RE: What spells are needed
# Dec 25 2000 at 4:45 PM Rating: Default
Yeah but how many cups can you hit something with? I like having the chance to finish something off in case things get bad. They just look at me funny if I try to hit them with the Stein. Right before they wipe the floor with me.
RE: What spells are needed
# Jan 09 2001 at 2:44 AM Rating: Default
OMG

1st there is a cup you can hit with (no big deal)

2nd the cup use to be more then a lvl 10 could afford but people like me make a dark elf enc and lvl it to 8 in a hour or 2 and get that cup because they are cheep and then they sell them and the price goes down

3rd what is better some daggor that looks cool for a caster to have or a 100pp cup? who is going to brag about a cup

I am just saying this daggor is cool and i am going to try to get my guild to help my alt necro get one if you want to try to make it better plz do but i have school and work so i dont have the time to if i did i would too no big deal to me i would camp the things again but no time

Which spells for the dagger
# Oct 30 2000 at 8:59 AM Rating: Default
As I read all the notes found in Dalnir about the Visceral Dagger, I have notice something. The story tells us that the dagger was never completed. The the Necro that was making it had to cast the last few spells on it. Does anyone have any Idea as to what spells you would need to complate the dagger. I have completed the Quest and I have the Visceral Dagger, but what if there is more to it.
Oh, if you are wondering how to cast a spell on an item. Thing about how you make "Shadow Silk"

I've killed about 50 placeholders so far.... no Imprecator in the church yet. It's making me crazy, since I got the other 3 parts in about 20 minutes.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

I thought about trying this then i found out how to and thought it wasnt worth it. But now i plan on doing this quest..it might be hard but tits hard for a reason...its a good item. I cant believe some of these posts...heh using this instead of stein..because of looks.....you are the same people that wear oracle robes instead of a GSD. The only reason i thought about using my harvester instead of this dagger is cause i love the dead eye effect...but since i usually have DMF on i dont have to worry about that. If i get this dagger i think its bye bye harvester

Item is primary hand, no need to get rid of Harvester quite Yet.
Good. But not great.
# Sep 07 2000 at 10:46 AM Rating: Default
If this thing fit in your ranged slot, it would be awesome. As it is though, my Stein and Dread Thyxl far outweight the usefulness of this dagger. It's beyond me why they didn't add more stat or resist bonuses to it. I did the quest just because I was bored. But the V Dagger is going in my bank to collect cobwebs with my Staff of the Dreaded Gaze... another rather useless item that just "looks cool".

ill tell you this. The Lab room Imprecater doesnt spawn very often. on the rathe it went 3 days without spawning. only reason i know this is friends and i campd it straight and found it very dissapointing. the other items drop within a hour of camping the spawns. some quicker some little more. but atleast they spawned. i gave up on the quest after camping the lab room one for 3 days each day with 10-16 hours of camp[ing it myself. Wooz Level 50 necro rathe. btw it gets old clearing the whole third zone getting no exp and shouting to anyone in zone who wants items they`d better get to third floor and be first to loot. ehhe

I recently aquired the dagger and after casting identify on it, it revealed the dagger as a Rusty visceral dagger, that with the comments in the notes about the dagger never being finished may suggest there is more to this quest. I dont have the nerve to put the Dagger in a Forge with a sharpening stone) and the messages suggested enchantments that were needed to be cast on the dagger. If anyone learns anymore about this please post it here.

I am from Saryrn Server, and even tho I do not need nor have a char that can use the dagger, I have explored kunark a bit, and I have found tomes with info on the dagger... and its origin and possibly what to do with it from there... I had read about all the quests related to what these tomes had to say and this dagger and the unsolved SK greenmist quest are the only ones related to what I read in the tomes.. servers down currently so cant look at them hehe... if you are a quester, look me up on Saryrn and perhaps we can work on this together as I am curious about it... you can find me there as Drueric the Mage, Tokomi the Warrior, or Tokugawa the Monk

I camped the church imp for less than an hour before he spawned, then went upstairs and the hilt imp spawned on the third cycle, then someone gave me the jagged shard earlier, and i went down to the blacksmith and he was already up.

Total quest time: 1hr 30mins

(Other people have camped the church for 10 hours straight without seeing the imp)

The Quest works fine I have the Vis Dagger how ever the time frame of 4 min is a joke try few days. To answer the questions above it takes 4 parts to make the Dagger 2 parts jagged metal shard and sharp metal shard are Tradable. the Hilt is NO DROP and the Black smiths hammer is NO DROP NO RENT. and the Dagger can not go in range slot besides who would want to the dagger looks cool ;o)

The quest is not broken have camped the Chem-Lab Imprecater and after six hours got the Jagged Metal shard. The other 2 pieces went smoothly the only one that gave me trouble was the Chem Lab imp. I havent gotten the Foraging Hammer yet because i was to tired to wait for the Undead Blacksmith and since the hammer is no rent i figured i will get it later i hope that isnt a ***** to get like the jagged metal shard was.

I have spent 2 days camping the Kly Imprecator in the lab room. We camped 10 hours each day and he never spawned. The guides told me the quest is not broken. Has anyone else had such a hard time or is Verant lying again as ususal?

This will be perfect to carry in my hand spot, and leave the Dagger of Marnek in RNG slot. I'm certainly not carrying a stupid stein around.
