You say, 'Hail, Spanner Scrapsnatcher'

Spanner Scrapsnatcher says 'You know, you can go greet yourself. Converse with yourself and then see yourself off while you're at it. I've had enough of this place. To be honest, I've just thought about it and I think that I've had quite enough of you as well. So mate, unless you're holding my bag of fame and fortune... as promised to me last week by our huge headed friend over there... I think that it would be best if you shambled off. Please feel free to take the Erudite with you.'

You say, 'What fame and fortune?'

Spanner Scrapsnatcher says 'Oh dun give me the 'what fame and fortune routine'. I'm sure that you're not poking around in the dark jungle because you heard some orphans needed rescuing, you greedy looking wretch. Bah... you've heard the stories about the temple too, haven't ya? That is of course why you're here, right? Looking for your cut?'

You say, 'What stories?'

Spanner Scrapsnatcher says 'The lass here told me that she'd be needing me to do some poking around in that temple. Of course being the handsome gentleman that I am and all, I told her that I'd take a look or two. You know a charitable and chivalrous bloke like me would perform such a task for free, but then the Errordite has to go and pry me with stories of riches and... err... a little fame. So, I says, sure... I'll do it since you're begging me and all... now look at us. Deep in the swamp and covered in black monster mucous.'

You say, 'What black monster mucous?'

Spanner Scrapsnatcher says 'I dunno what to tell you. I woke up our first morning here to find all of my gear covered in this nasty slime. Most of the stuff crawled off, but now our goods are ruined. I'll be happy when I can get a nice change of clothes. If you happen into some sporty gnome sized clothing let me know.'

Prathun from the EQLive Development Team has confirmed that this is simply funny banter and not really a quest.

This isn't a quest.

"If you happen into some sporty gnome sized clothing let me know." is nothing more than funny banter.

Thanks for the update! I'll annotate it as such.

P.S. Feel free to update any other unsolved/incomplete quests we've got listed. Smiley: cool

Wrong text?

I was reading articles about the Feerrot during my long, boring camp of the pieces for the SK darkforge armour, and happened upon this quest. I decided to try and see if I could figure anything out while waiting on the mobs to respawn, but when I hailed Spanner and followed the dialogue, what I got ended with "I'll be happy when I can get back home and change into some nice, clean clothes." Nothing about "sporty gnome sized" or anything.
I've no clue what he's talking about, just thought I'd throw this out there.

Ooze covered ?
# Jan 01 2006 at 7:39 PM Rating: Decent
From this guys story line it seems he wants the Ooze covered gear that's dropped in zone. Will have to try to get down there and see if he takes that gear or not. Will post later if he does or not.

This one's been unsolved for a while. You might try the "Slime Covered" gear as well.

There's an item called "Spanner's Notebook" found in Cazic Thule, has anybody tried giving it to him? Or reading it, maybe it has a description of what kind of clothes he wants.

He hands back Spanner's Notebook. The book contains recipes for weapons and a shield but no clothes. The Boodstained Journals have the CT clothing recipes some of which were tried below. It would be worth trying more of these perhaps.

You handed him weapons, a piece of armor, a COOKING POT, some raw silver...some MEAT??? You even tried handing him some freakin BLOOD?? Nice work detective...you've really slimmed down the list of things this gnome might want to wear.

ok it's apparent that all three ppl there are together in a group...researching.they refuse to go further into CT without knowledge of the lizard men's magic and information on what happened to the previous group of researchers and ther mercenaries...my assumption is to goto CT and locate the group (they had said they entered a week ago) ...the group may be held captive or all dead.........
DOH...............

i haven't done it yet, but i read this because i was bored and the servers are down for patching.i do believe i can solve the mystery.if you read carefully, just after the sentence of hailing him...i believe you will find an answer.i would (and am going to ) try speaking with the "big headed" (lol)erudite in which he speaks of..after talking with the gnome.the quest will probably go sumtin like:going on a adventure with the erudite and succeeding...then bringin the rewards (gnome clothes) back to the gnome..for your rewards....

if someone beats me to the erudite, please post the outcome.

Gnomish Environment Suit?

Sporty gnome-sized clothing...
Somehow, Gnomish Environment Suit comes to mind.
Anyone tried handing him one?
quest....
# Oct 20 2003 at 9:45 AM Rating: Decent
i see 2 possiblities...

1. ) it culd be the boots of flowing slime off a red swirling mass.....maybe noone tried to hand them to him because of there uber pricing...rush off straight to sell them

2. ) i'd say talking to him spawns a new pop in CT in which u would have to search for.

I was messing in CT just picking off the door spawns there, and one of the lizzy's dropped Spanner's Notebook - it just seemed to have a bunch of smithing recipes for various weapons in it. I handed it to its owner, but he didn't want anything to do with it. Huh.
Cazic-Thule
# Aug 05 2003 at 3:24 PM Rating: Decent
It does say the additional zone for this quest is Cazic-Thule. Maybe a mob there drops his clothes.

I would imagine (from the NPC dialogue) that CT is indeed involved. However, you should keep in mind that the "Additional Zones" listed here are listed by information givers (and in this case guessers) like ourselves. (In other words, it really hasn't been verified that CT has anything to do with getting the gnome his sporty clothes.)

That said, I would imagine CT is the right place to look.

Red Herring
# Jul 06 2003 at 1:33 PM Rating: Decent
Pretty sure you're all looking in the wrong place. I doubt he wants player-made things, or things that drop in some other place.

He's talking about the black slime that ruined his stuff. I doubt he actually wants a turnin of clothing, and if he does, most likely it's a drop off the slime, or it's just pure story-telling. Not every NPC gives out quests. The storyteller in PoStorms is a prime example.

I know its used for tinkering, but has anyone tried giving him a tattered gnomish cloak? They drop in Sol A off the gnomes and on some of the names randomly.

he says "sporty", have you tried what sporty, perhaps sporty is a clue to the type of armor he wants?

I tried asking about sporty and many other word combinations in his text. Nothing more than the above came up. I even asked his two companions about these bits (and not their own texts... that is a different matter), and they didn't seem to care about their short companion's garments.

I didn't try offering him anything, as

1.) I didn't have anything that wasn't already being worn.
2.) I couldn't even think of anything that would be considered "sporty". Assuming this *is* a quest, "sporty" might just be a flavoring term, of no real import. I have a tinkering friend out of whom I will barter some of the tinkered armor. *shrug* It is worth a try at least.

Perhaps he wants some gnome cultural armor. It's worth a try I guess, though it's not easy finding a gnomish GM blacksmith.
