Corun Finisc roams around. He's not on Find.

You say, 'Hail, Corun Finisc'

Corun Finisc says 'Hello. My name is Corun Finisc and I am one of the Jaggedpine Treefolk. It is our divine responsibility to watch over and protect Surefall Glade and its [inhabitants] from those who seek to [destroy] them.'

You say, 'Who are the inhabitants?'

Corun Finisc says 'The bears of Surefall Glade are our brothers. We are all children of [Tunare]. We would gladly die in their defense.'

You say, 'Who is Tunare?'

Corun Finisc says 'Tunare is the Mother of All. It is through Her will that we protect this land and its many creatures.'

You say, 'Who is destroying them?'

Corun Finisc says 'Poachers in seach of bear skins and [gnolls] who attack us unprovoked. We are doing all we can to stop them. May [Tunare] give me the strength needed to smite them dead with my [crook].'

You say, 'What gnolls?'

Corun Finisc says 'The Sabertooths are a vicious band of gnolls who live in Blackburrow, to the east of Surefall Glade. They constantly attack us when we only seek to share this land with them. They also send many patrols out into the Qeynos Hills to the south. We have even seen a Sabertooth skulking about in the caves behind Grizzly Falls. There is a [reward] for his hide.'

You say, 'Reward?'

Corun Finisc says 'Yes. We are offering a small reward for slaying the skulking gnoll in the bear caves. Bring me his paw to claim your bounty. The Jaggedpine Treefolk remember well those who aid their cause.'

You say, 'Crook?'
Corun Finisc says, 'My crook? The Jaggedpine crook is an enchanted weapon of the Jaggedpine Treefolk. The Sabertooths take great pleasure in destroying the crooks of any Treefolk they manage to slay. If you were to recover the pieces of a broken crook, I would gladly mend it for you.'

You need to slay Skulking Gnoll in the cave in Surefall and return his paw as proof (what is the item's name?). Paws from other gnolls, such as Blackburrow and Butcherblock, will not work.

Need all dialogues, faction hits, quest rewards.

DANGER. DO NOT DO THIS QUEST.

As it has been pointed out here and on related pages, the placeholder for the skulking gnoll is apparently one of the bears in the cave.
This, on the surface, would not be much of an issue since there are more than enough poachers to offset any rep loss from killing the bear in question or any accidentally killed.
However, Bren Treeclimber patrols the cave and will not only kill the skulking gnoll on sight but will also attack you if you hit any bears.

My first thought was, "okay, if she's not up, then I can kill the gnoll easily".
*buzzer* Nope! The faction hit from killing her will instantly make you KOS to the other NPCs in the town, effectively making your Druid or Ranger an outcast from your home city.

EDIT: Okay, not KOS. *whew* It was just the NPCs that ran to avenge Bren's death, but still... -100 Protectors of Pine is a fair amount of grinding in order to recover; not worth it.

You have been warned.

Not worth killing the skulking gnoll

If all you get are a few paltry coins for killing the skulking gnoll, it definitely isn't worth it. Drop rate on the paw doesn't look good, so the positive faction hits you get for turning it in had better be damn good to offset the negative hits you will get from killing the placeholder (a bear cub that runs through the cave at SoW speed). I killed the skulking gnoll 6 times and didn't get anything from it at all. You get -6 QRG Protected Animals and some other negative faction hits that I can't remember offhand for killing the bear cub, so it won't take long before you won't be able to go into the bear cave at all without being attacked on sight by the bears if it takes you a long time to get the paw to drop. Even killing poachers and turning in the heads while I was waiting for the gnoll to pop doesn't do anything to improve QRG Protected Animals. Not a lot does so once you lose it, it will be hard to get it back.

The quest terms seems simple, Corun Finisc says, "Yes. We are offering a small reward for slaying the skulking gnoll in the bear caves. Bring me his paw to claim your bounty."

Corun Finisc wants the paw from the Skulking Gnoll. "You need to slay the gnoll in the cave in Surefall and return his paw as proof. Paws from other gnolls, such as Blackburrow and Butcherblock, will not work."

Also, I see there isn't a link for the Skulking Gnoll. He may have been removed from the game.

It's listed as lowercase, a skulking gnoll and is in the related creatures list on the quest.

That is the problem. He shouldn't be in lower case. The Skulking Gnoll (a named NPC) drops the only paw that will complete this quest. He isn't a related creature. He is the main character. The named should be capitalized and a link provided.

Yes, it should be in lower case, since that is how it appears in-game. Look at the screenshot at this link https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=15018 . Please don't confuse the issue by having new entries created because people will start looking for a skulking gnoll with capital letters in it's name and never find it because it doesn't exist.

There is a database entry for both a skulking gnoll and Skulking Gnoll. I'm not sure when the latter was created. I don't find the capitalized version on either Magelo or EQresource. And I've been camping this location as time permits. So far no sign of the Named verison. Also, neither Lucy nor Magelo nor EQresource have captured a third Gnoll Paw item, the one that actually works with the quest. It does seem quite possible that it was taken out of the game.

This seems wrong:

Quest Items: Gnoll Paw [Blackburrow Gnoll Paw]

It contradicts this text from the quest description:

You need to slay the gnoll in the cave in Surefall and return his paw as proof. Paws from other gnolls, such as Blackburrow and Butcherblock, will not work.

Let us know if you find another item that works for this quest.

I guess the paw is worthless, but what other non quest item will merchants give you nothing for? Can't think of any at the moment, (actually I think I have a tounge that I got trying for another persons tounge) but could it be something combined with another item in a quest? If anyone finds answers please post em. Otherwise it is a shame that it is completely useless, there arn't too many items in this game that are. I'm holding on to it in hopes that someone will eventually find an answer. I refuse to believe (foolishly I might add) that it is completely useless.

Rare spawn
# May 28 2001 at 7:50 PM Rating: Default
The paw is from a gnoll called 'a skulking gnoll' which is a very rare spawn in the surefall caves. It is different from the gnoll poacher who drops a head (the head gives the bow mentioned above). I killed the skulking gnoll once but it didn't drop the paw. Yet another rare spawn/rare drop quest.
What to do w/ Gnoll Shaman Paw?

So can anything be done w/ the gnoll shaman paw? Is it entirely worthless?
BB Paws are Red Herrings

I am pretty sure that all other paws (I.E.: Like the ones that drop off BB Shaman) are all just red herrings to this quest.
Gnoll Shaman

I got the paw off a gnoll shaman that spawns on top level of BB...I cant do the quest because I am KOS to everyone in surefall but I am going to give it to a druid or ranger to see if they can do the quest.

Paw found
# Sep 27 2000 at 4:56 AM Rating: Default
I happened to pick up the gnoll poacher one time at level 19. After very quickly dispatching it, I didn't get a paw but instead looted a gnoll head. This one wasn't a no drop or lore item so I gave it to the same trainer that the poacher heads go to. I go a rough elm recurve bow. I did however loot a paw off a named bandit in Butcherblock. Can't remember his name but he was in the same camp as Peg Leg. The paw was a lore item no drop. Going to Surefall today to see if it works.

I got the gnoll paw off the same named bandit in BB mountains. His name is Stump Rundl, and he's only lvl 13. I haven't tried to use the paw to get anything yet, though.

I have been asking about gnoll paw from bb for months and no one knows. I do know that its not for this quest tried two times, once with indifferent faction and then again with amiably faction. Asked around if it was for paw of opiala (sp) but everyone says no that is something different. Interesting point. I have found the gnoll paw also on Fippy Darkpaw in north qeynos once before.
