Gram Dunnar is a dwarf in the building southeast of the Soulbinder in the Plane of Knowledge, location -325, -175, -155. If you're too "young" to be travelling the Planes (under level 51), you'll get this when you hail him:

The old dwarf glances at you briefly, then returns his attention to a small wooden object he is carving. 'Got no time for kids like you,' he grunts.

Otherwise, he's a bit more friendly:

The old dwarf looks up at you slowly, his wrinkled hands continuing to carve a small wooden object. He grins as he eyes your dust-covered outfit and well-used equipment. 'Ahh, a young adventurer,' he says. 'Warms my heart to see the spirit I once had still going strong. Got too old, you see." He strokes his beard. 'Tried taking up a [craft], but it just isn't the same. Sure would be nice to hear some [stories] about those new places I'll never get to see.'

You say, 'What craft?'

Gram Dunnar stops carving and holds up the object between his short fingers. It is a figurine of a swordsman with many intricate details. 'No one really wants to buy them, these days. If there's no magic in it. . .' he shrugs. 'Still, something to take up some time.' He rummages through some finished pieces on the floor around him, picks up one, and tosses it to you. 'Here,' he says. 'Maybe it'll bring you some luck.'

This earns you a class-specific charm, which gains power the further you progress in the planes. Each class charm is a little different, but they're all LORE/NO DROP/MAGIC Charm slot items.

For each of the first seven planar progression flags listed below, you get an Alternate Advancement reward equivalent to one point. Once you have fully-flagged or alternate access to these zones (level-enabled access will not do), Gram Dunnar will give you your AA point. You don't get a second point for a particular step by completing the regular flag after completing the alternate access quest.

To get this, simply repeat the phrase "I will tell you stories" a number of times.

You get a charm upgrade for all ten steps once you zone into the newly accessible zone.

  • 1. Access to Storms and Valor

Gram listens eagerly to your tales of the Plane of Valor and Plane of Storms. 'Everything turned to glass by the dragon! That must be a sight,' he exclaims. 'Wish I could go there,' he sighs.

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 2. Access to Crypt of Decay/Ruins of Lxanvom

Gram shudders as you tell him of the Crypt of Decay. 'A foul place, indeed. I would have loved to slay a few of those creatures, though.' His hand clenches and his eyes look past you. 'Ah, the battles I used to have,' he mutters.

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 3. Access to Plane of Tactics/Drunder, Fortress of Zek

The dwarf grins excitedly at your description of the Plane of Tactics. 'I'd show the minions of Rallos Zek something, I would!' he exclaims, swinging his hands around as though wielding an axe. He sits down again and looks sadly at his aged hands.

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 4. Access to Halls of Honor

'Animated suits of armor, eh?' Gram says as you tell him of the Halls of Honor. 'Saw something like that once, but never so many as that.' His eyes get a faraway look. 'If I only I still had my youth.'

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 5. Access to Torden, Bastion of Thunder

'Giants and a huge fortress,' Gram sighs wistfully as you finish your story of the Bastion of Thunder. 'Storming through a place like that, killing everything in sight - those were good days.'

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 6.Access to Plane of Torment

Gram listens attentively to your story of the Plane of Torment. 'Ravens with bloody eyes,' he muses, 'and creatures with four mouths?' He shakes his head. 'Never in my day did I see such things.'

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 7. Access to Tower of Solusek Ro

Gram strokes his beard thoughtfully as you tell him of the Tower of Solusek Ro. 'The burning prince himself. A worthy opponent, I'm sure,' he says. 'Thank you for the tales, Moog. It's good to imagine these places, even if I may never see them.'

Reward: AA point and charm upgrade.

  • 8. Access to Elemental Planes other than Plane of Fire

    Reward: Charm upgrade only.

  • 9. Access to Plane of Fire

    Reward: Charm upgrade only.

  • 10. Access to Plane of Time

    Reward: Charm upgrade only.

    Destroyed Idol

    How do I ???
    # Jan 09 2004 at 2:21 PM Rating: Default
Does just going into each Plane (for Storm/Valor and Disease for CoD) count as getting Flagged ? Or do I need to speak to an NPC in each Plane to be flagged ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    RE: How do I ???
    # Jan 29 2004 at 9:38 AM Rating: Default
The flagging process existed before it was made possible for anyone of adequate level to enter the zones. So to get the AA and boost in power to your charm, you MUST complete the regular flagging process for the plane.

Simply being able to access the plane due to your level, or presence in a raid of mostly flagged characters (I believe that's still possible), does not make you flagged for that plane. As such you don't get the AA reward.

To be flagged for Plane of Valor/Storms you must complete the Trial of Execution quest.

Once you have completed this quest and are thus lfagged for Plane of Valor and Plane of Storms, you can return to Gram Dunnar to tell him stories and gain your AA reward.

I'm pretty sure this has been clarified in later posts, but for the sake of more clarification, this is slightly incorrect. To receive the Valor/Storms flag you must hail Mauvin, complete ANY Plane of Justice trial, and hail Mauvin for the flag to enter the next zones. Trial of Execution is simply considered the easiest.
    Which Flag Quests?
    # Dec 21 2003 at 7:40 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, from the way this quest is listed, with the 8 upgrades and 8 related quests, it appears at first glance that each trial counts as an upgrade. I doubt this is the case from the responses given by Mr. "tell me stories."
Can someone post a list of ALL related quests/alternate quests that provide charm upgrades? That is if they're not already listed here.
    Links would be wonderful.

    Free PoP AA
    # Dec 13 2003 at 4:19 AM Rating: Default
    Free PoP AA

OK, even though you can enter some of the Planes of Power zones simply by level, you can still earn the AA reward bv getting flagged for that zone.

EXAMPLE: If you can enter Valor or Storms, just by your level, you WILL NOT get the free AA. If you go to Justice and complete one trial and earn the flagging for Valor and Storms, you will be rewarded with the free AA. Its as simple as that. There are some zones that will not qualify a free AA, Nightmare, Disease, Justice, as these are already accessible at level 46. Bastion of Thunder, Tactics, Crypt of Decay, Torment, Halls of Honor, and the Elemental Planes will. The stats raising on the figurine increase with progression, but I dont recall what the increments are. Finally, you have to be minimum level of 46 to enter the planes, and a minimum level of 51 to do the quest for the figurine. If you already have flags before attaining the figurine, you can go back and still get the free AA, but you must use the line "I have some stories" for each AA, you do not get them in one lump sum.

    verifying exactly how it works
    # Dec 01 2003 at 12:21 PM Rating: Default
Ok, let's try to make this as clear as possible.

If a character is level 51+ (even without any flags), they can get the charm?

If they are flagged for planes (not just meeting level requirements) they can claim their AA and the upgrade to their charm by reciting the phrase "I will tell you stories" to Gram Dunnar in POK?

Later, if they acquire flags for more planes, they can return to Gram Dunnar and recite the phrase "I will tell you stories" to claim the AA and charm stat upgrades?

This is how I interpret the discussion and the quest text, but I figure if we can establish a definite answer to these questions, then it should be fairly clear to everyone.
    Augmenting the Charm
    # Nov 22 2003 at 9:21 PM Rating: Default
Some have Augmented this Charm with their adventure stone from LDON. The Adventures in LDON add HP and Mana to the Augment(Adv Stone) on the charm (Figurine).
    RE: Augmenting the Charm
    # Jan 06 2004 at 12:53 PM Rating: Default
By the way, if you win 10 adventures in EACH LDON arena the adventure stone will have +1 to all stats. So if you have numerous wins in all arena then the Figurine + adven stone DOES equal over +10 to all stats, plus hp and mana. The adven stone is kind of an upgrade to the IWF, very neat imho.

    # Nov 06 2003 at 5:47 PM Rating: Default
For each flag, you get 1 point of saves. The final figurine shows with 10 points of saves. Yet the quest listed above only shows seven stories you can tell. Does your 7th story raise the stats to full or are there 3 more stories that aren't listed here yet (ie elemental and time)?

Nevermind . . . just read the text of the quest:

You need to access the plane then go back and see him and say, "I will tell you stories", in order to get the free AA . . .

I had been Keyed for HoH just that day.

My friend has not been keyed for any of the Higher Planes.

He said, "I will tell you stories." just like I did - I got the free AA point (and by the way my Run3).

    What gives?

    how many flags apply?
    # Sep 05 2003 at 4:41 PM Rating: Decent
I've gotten six flag to apply to this charm (all the ones listed above except SolRo tower) and have all the saves at +6. Looking at the charm lists the saves as +10. Does getting flag number seven jump the stats to full or are there three other flags after SolRo tower (eq elementals, time, ...)?

FYI, the flags for the various planes are required aparently.

The patch they had a few months ago that opened up PoV and PoV to 55+ and so on will not work.

My brother has a 58 cleric that tried it. All he got was the charm and "good stories, heard them all before" and the charm did not change.

    Stats per flag?
    # Aug 14 2003 at 4:42 AM Rating: Decent
Does anyone have any information on how much the stats increase per flag you have? I assume the stats listed for this item are it's end result, but considering the difficulty of achieving a flag for every PoP zone that you can get one for, it might be handy to know how good this thing is with less flags.

There are "Planes" and then there are "Planes of Power". The difference is that although both are "The magical places where the Gods dwell", one is mostly for larger Raids, and the other is usefull for groups.

"The Planes" have been around for a few expansions. They include the planes of Sky, Fear, Hate, Mischief and Nature. All were designed to be very rough and somewhat hard to get to, and to be the place where people tested their abilities in "The ultimate Challenge"...but they are not quite as hard by comparison any more, though.

"The Planes of Power" is the most recent non-downloaded expansion to EQ, and include the planes of Nightmare, Disease, Innovation, Storms, Time, Earth, Fire, etc, etc. As opposed to the "Old Planes", these new ones were made to be very easy to get to, and to be good for single groups...and some classes can even solo quite successfully there.

-Although none of these places can be enterred before you reach lvl 46, you will soon find yourself grouping in the "Planes of Power" if you continue playing. The loot and XP is very nice.

"The Planes" remain places where you need to be carefull, and bring friends. But other than the thrill of killing a God, the old "Planes" are very rarely visited these days, since the risk/reward is simply too low. Most people only go there to get bits and pieces for Epic quests.

(They are, however, getting revamped. Hate was just changed, and Sony have announced that they are starting to rework Mischief)

I hope that answerred your question.

    not totally true

although some of the panes are easily excessable,(thanks to the flagging drop) getting flagged for some are still quite hard an you HAVE to be flagged if you ever wish to get into PoTime

on the other hand PoS mini's aren't something u an 2 friends could duo, they can double an triple for 900ish an have decent speed so come on now don't lead ppl on =)

In this case, flags are used to track yuor progession thorugh the PoP storyline, and enter the higher level PoP zones.

(This was changed a bit back so you can enter some zones from level 55 and 62 onwards).

See this for a quick overview: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/maps/Planes_of_Power_flags_1_13.gif

You can't even enter Tranquility until you are level 46, so no need to even think about flags until then. And unless you have a guild helping you, flags probably won't be an issue until 60 or so (if at all).

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 11 2003 at 1:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What the heck are these "flags"...an item? I am lvl 52 and looking into doing this quest. The one thing I know is all of you peeps that have posted messages here did not make any sense even in a remote fashion.

flag are what WAS needed to enter higher plane on POP (now for most of them you just have to be high level enough). look for trial in POJ if you want to know what a flag is.

    # Jun 29 2003 at 12:58 PM Rating: Excellent
Stats at 51 with the charm is AC 0, nothing else. Whenever you do hit 55 and are able to enter the opened zones, you won't get the stat advances. The reason, just cause you're able to enter the zone doesn't mean you're flagged for the zone and that's what the reward is for, for getting the actual flag.

    desire for more flags
    # Jun 14 2003 at 1:27 AM Rating: Default
The idea for this charm in my opinion is simple. They removed the flags...so that people can go to the higher planes...by simplee reaching a lvl of which they would be suitable.
However...without NERFING parts of zones...that have continuous quests and an ongoing storyline (not a good storyline or anything to be honest) they left in the Flagging Trials...
You can get this charms sure...but what good is it if you aren't flagged...well you can flag to improve it...or ignore the flags and get to most of the PoP zones.
    GOOD IDEA VERANT!
    RE: desire for more flags
    # Jun 16 2003 at 2:08 AM Rating: Good
Trying to figure out if your post is mocking Sony or not. Either way..here is the reason behind what they did. They had to find a way to give something back to those personal like myself who have spent alot of time and effort to go back and reflagging everyone to get to where we are at today. Therefore, the reasoning behind the charm and the AAs that were given was good. Yes, you can get into BoT and Tactics now if you are above 62, but your charm isn't going to be any better until you get the actual flag for there. And, I'm assuming that as soon as you get the actual flag, you can prob go back and grab that extra AA from him too.

Basically, if you go back and say kill MB in PoI to get the actual flag for Tactics...you should see that your charm increased when you talk to the gnome..if you didn't already have this flag.

Whatever the reason, I think that it was a great idea. Me like many others loved the extra AAs and you can't beat having a charm that gives an extra almost 100 hps when fully charged.
    RE: desire for more flags
    # Jun 16 2003 at 4:05 AM Rating: Decent
"Yes, you can get into BoT and Tactics now if you are above 62"

You can get into Tactics now without the flag ?

I thought the patch message said:

"To correct this issue, we will be allowing characters to enter the following Planes of Power zones by meeting a simple level requirement:

    Level 55 and over
    Plane of Storms
    Plane of Torment
    Plane of Valor
    Crypt of Decay

    Level 62 and over
    Bastion of Thunder
    Halls of Honor"

I don't see no Tactics listed there.
