The quest begins in The Gulf of Gunthak. Talk to An Impassive Sea Spirit located about (pos)600, (neg)300 under a broken ship hull.

"You say, 'Hail, an impassive sea spirit'"

"An impassive sea spirit sways back and forth, rocking with the gentle motions of the tide. You are nearly mesmerized by its periodic fluctuation, when it suddenly speaks, 'I watch you as you watch me, and I wonder. Do you realize how to become empty of wishes, of dreams, of hope and sorrow? What do you know, strange one, about the virtue of null emotion? Do you understand how to be as unwavering as the ocean itself? Can you envision yourself as the pebble in the river? Can you mute feeling? Do you [dare to learn]?'"

"You say, 'I dare to learn.'"

"An impassive sea spirit says, 'We will see, Dreamhunter, we will see. If you are a willing pupil then demonstrate that you have begun to comprehend. Bring me something empty that previously numbed feeling and therefore brought emptiness to its possessor. You should not have to travel far.'"

Go to Dulak's Harbor. In the first row of houses to the right as you enter the zone, a Drunken Pirate spawns. Singling him out may be a little difficult. What I did is I went behind the second and third house, in the little growe in the wall and pulled there. The street infront the houses is patroled and the mobs will add if you pull as the patrolman passes. The best way to do it is to forget the pet, invisible yourself, find a drunken pirate in one of the houses, target him, go outside and cast a spell - yes you can cast through a wall here.

The item that you need to get from the pirate is:

Empty Flask
LORE ITEM NO DROP
Wt: 0.5 Size: MEDIUM
Class: SHM
Race: None
Identifies as: Item Lore: Smells faintly of Rum.

The pirates also drop a "Broken Bottle" which is not the one that you need (identifies as: Item Lore: Smells of wine.)

Once you acquired the empty flask, return to the impassive sea spirit in Gunthak. Make sure that you have an empty slot in your inventory, since the item that he gives you upon turning the empty bottle in will not fit in any container.
Handing him the empty flask results with:

"An impassive sea spirit says, 'Well done, strange one. Your perception is admirable.' The spirit hands you an incredibly heavy rock. 'Can you, Dreamhunter, be as [impassive as the sea]?'"

(You get)
A Large Rock
LORE ITEM NO DROP
Wt: 25.4 Size: GIANT
Class: SHM
Race: None
Identifies as: Item Lore: A Large Rock.

"You say, 'I can be as impassive as the sea.'"

"An impassive sea spirit removes his gaze from the ocean and looks at you, 'Perhaps you can be, but I require proof. If you can defeat the smallest elements of the ocean I shall reward you. Hand me their essences and I shall know you have completed the task. When you are ready to challenge them hand me back that rock.'"

Handing him the rock back will spawn "flotsam" and "jetsam," a pair of level 36 water elementals. They spawn near the entrance to the hull and you need to kill them and loot their dropsl; "flotsam" drops a Small Piece of Flotsam and "jetsam" drops a Small Piece of Jetsam.

An impassive sea spirit melds with the murky ocean water, and two elements of the sea appear.

Handing the two pieces to the impassive spirit results with:

"Now you comprehend. This is the way things are, and the way they have always been. Your acceptance of these truths proves your worthiness."

You get the scroll: Spell: Stoicism

Check all the row of huts there, you'll find multiple pirates, not just the one that spawns outside the 2nd hut.

In the described quest, it states that you need to have an open inventory slot. If you have a bag that holds giant item's, there is no need to destroy or go back and put a bag in the bank..just make sure your bag that holds giant items has one spot open.

I just finished this quest today. Had to do the beginning twice as i handed my dog the rock instead of handing it back to the impassive sea spirit. Had to camp the drunken pirates again. Flotsam and Jetsam conned green to my 52 shaman. Went down very easy. Didnt seem to hit that hard(my ac is 1053) finished with my health at 95%. They spawn right at the entrance of the boat. Single pullable.

Guild decided to do this one tonite. A tad overkill, but hey we got the spell for a shammy. Had to clear the houses at least 4 times before one dropped. It still drops just takes patience. Dulak Harbor the houses on the right when you first come in.
will this EVER drop?!

We helped our Shaman team member with this quest last night.

Team inc. 45 Ranger (Tank & Minor DD), 45 Druid (Hell Bringer & Heals, Druid Buffs), 44 Shaman (Hell Bringer & Heals, Shammy Buffs), 45 Bard (2nd Tank & singing for us tanks and casters)

The Druid Sup. Camo'ed us at the right of the beach (at shore) we then ran up the tunnels and stayed camo'ed until we zoned in.

We dropped the camo, and picked off the zone DE and Humans easy enough, the Trolls have large XP, but the group handled them well.

I switched on track and found the drunken pirates (house on the right), on the 3rd Drunken Pirate the Flask Dropped (pull with a snare to reduce adds).

My wife ported us to PoK so we could sell of the stuff we had looted, this alone brought in over 200pp (been there for 15 minutes).

We PoK'ed back to Gunthak and swam to the beach (right side).

I dropped 'endure breath' on us all, then the Druid and Shaman buffed us up and we all swam out to the NPC everytime the shaman completed part of the quest we all got the XP, then when he handed in the ROCK Flotsam and Jetsam popped at the enterance to the sunken boat.

The Druid rooted and dot'ed Jetsam as The Bard and me (Ranger) beat up Flotsam, while the Druid and Shaman hit them with some Direct Damage, then Jetsam fell dead from the DoT's for the Druid (Yikes). These two were quiet easy to end...though the build up to it was scarey as hell.

The Shaman handed in the LOOT and we all got XP he got his lovely spell.

Nice

Ranger (me) - Velor (45)
Druid (Wife) - Fraeya (45)
Shaman (Friend) - Radox (44)
Bard (Friend) - Baros (45)

The links to Flotsam and Jetsam in this quest go to the wrong mobs.
These are not listed in the Gunthak mob list either.
Can solo at 40+

I went straight to killing the a drunken pirate at the harbor. had a 59 warrior pulling and killing them. we must have been there 4 hours or more before the empty flask dropped. Do not have to talk to the sprite first.

Just wrapped this quest up tonight. Started out by doing solo drunken pirate pulls on the series of shacks to the first right after tunnel. Parked pet in the back of the shacks in the middle of the back wall between hut 2-3 and pulled with slow to there. You shouldn't get many adds on pulls and the 2 roamers in the lane are easy to dodge if you're carefull. Another tip is to /ooc the zone for the flask while dropping pirates, most people will let the flask rot as it's useless to other classes.

Turn in:

After getting to water area I brought the pet up, buffed him with regen and haste, then cast EB on myself and headed to the spirit. Brought the pet with me, no problems with turn in but if you can't turn in the flask to the right person or hit cancel on trade window if you accidently get the pet you have bigger problems than worrying about getting this spell. If you're worried about it just park the pet a few feet behind you before the turn in flotsam and jetsam spawn back there anyway.

Turned in the flask and got the rock. Didn't waste time getting rid of a primary slot or empting a slot in a rallic pack either there was no need for it. Had other empty bags that would hold Giant sized items but ended up with the rock on my pointer anyway and turned it back in. Thing is if you're not ready to battle with flotsam and jetsam why are you here turning in the flask in the first place? It isn't no rent so why turn in a light easy to carry flask for a heavy rock unless you're there to get the spell?

Anyway spawned flotsam and jetsam behind me about halfway out of the ship. They do NOT attack on sight and are NOT social! Rooted flotsam, hit him with slow, and then laid venom of the snake on him. Same treatment for jetsam. Root broke on jetsam after landing VOS so I sent the pet in on him and re-rooted flotsam. Let the pet tank jetsam down and only had to heal the pet once while recasting root on flotsam. After dropping jetsam I looted him and just kept recasting root and VOS on flotsam while medding till he dropped.

Did the turn in's and got the spell with some mana leftover. Very easy quest to do the hardest part was getting the flask to drop. I gotta say this spell rocks, after a few uses I wouldn't leave home without it ;)

Good luck to everyone.

I've tried all my map sources and can not figure out how get to the Gulf of Gunthak. I found a map of the zone but not how to get there. For you people that having been playing for years keep in mind I've only been playing a few months. Can someone tell me the quickest way here from the PoK?

The easiest wayto get to Gunthak is this: Get a port to Stone Brunt. Just ask in POK most Wizzy's and Druids will do it for free or a small fee. From there if u have a map zone out and you will see the zone in point of Gulf of Gunthak. If you dont have a map then after you port in go south till you hit cliffs. From the cliffs go east along cliffs and look down from cliffs you will see a bridge and a boat. Take the bridge to the boat and click on the doors on the boat and you will zone into Gunthak

Ok, once you figure out that you need to go through GG and to Dulak then things start to make sense. There are multiple 'Drunken Pirates' that appear there after you've talked to the 'Impassive Sea Spirit' and you just need to start killing them. I solo'd the pirates without my pet by tossing Togor's insects on them to draw a mob out one at a time, and led them to behind the house by the 'stil' along the wall. Dot, root, repeat....always repeat. Third pirate dropped 'empty flask'.
Went back to 'impassive sea spirit' but first brougt up pet, buffed ol wolfee to the gills, turned in the flask, returned the rock, then used the same technique as the pirates on the twins. Sat behind the sea spirit, slowed flotsam, he came at me, rooted, had pet attack, dot'd, repeat for Jetsam. These two conned dark blue to me and the pirates were light blue, once again I'm a lvl 49 and the worst part of this whole quest was having my vanish spell give out amongst a bunch of mobs, but I survived. Goodluck to you all on this quest, I know that I will surely enjoy my new spell.

49 Shammy 'Nefertete'
did this today
# Nov 25 2003 at 11:35 PM Rating: Decent
I dinged my shammy to 44 today and wanted to get this spell for him this is basically how i did it

5:00PM Ran my 56 Nec and 44 Sham to dulak then camped to watch the simpsons
7:00PM Logged back in on my necro and started killing drunken pirates in the houses that are on your right as you zone into dulak
7:10PM Flask Drops. Log onto shammy and loot flask
7:20PM Get back to Gunthak, summon pet buff myself and pet. After that I went to the Sea spirit (located underwater under the overturned ships hull toward the right wall when heading toward the shore from lighthouse) Hailed him then gave him the flask he gave me the stone.
7:25 Handed stone back to spirt Floatsam and Jetsam Spawned (both blue to a lvl 44). I killed them by rooting Jetsam then pulling Floatsam with slow to split em then just stacked vos and scourge on em with an occasional nuke thrown in and let pet tank they went down pretty fast.
7:35 Handed the parts of floatsam and jetsam in together and recieved spell
7:40 Spell Scribed in my book and cast for the first time (yay me)

I know I kinda cheated gettin the flask but i just wasnt in the mood to try and get it with my shammy if you could single the drunken pirates it would be fairly easy to solo even at lvl 44 the max hit the pirates did was in the low 90's and they didnt have that many hp. One thing i'd suggest is that you make sure you have an enduring breath item or at least some fish scales so you can cast it. I didnt and it was was kinda annoying to have to surface every now and then to get air

Spent about 3 hours total killing drunkards, went today, empty flask dropped on the second mob for my newly dinged 44 shaman.

Went to the Impassive Sea Spirit after casting enduring breath on myself, did the hand ins, then floatsam and jetsam spawned, they did not attack me. I was grouped with a 58 cleric, who tanked I think Jetsam first, while I slowed and dotted (he kept aggro with stun), the other did not aggro, and we took Floatsam out with similar ease. Looted the parts and my shaman is now a happy owner of Stoicism

Probably soloable by a 44 shaman also, with medicore gear. Here is my shaman's stuff.

Just spent 4 hours knocking down "a drunken pirates" with a friend (must have been a zillion of em) with no luck getting the flask. Found all six (linear six minute cycle if you kill em right), fended off adds, ran to zone a couple, three times and no luck. Will try again.

Thank you all for the advice posted here.i chose the invis route and stayed near the warehouse while fighting.I mean we hugged the wall. The dock patrolman and another walked by during fight and still no adds.Could've been because I was level 52 perhaps?Unsure really, but did Flotsam and Jetsam with my pet up.All I did was park him (pet guard here) buffed him up at the lighthouse and after rock turn in cast Summon Companion and sicced him on the first one.Yes they are able to be singly pulled. Is a great spell had to try it out first thing-canni'ed down to over half life cast this on myself and boom!back in business.
Spawn time for Pirates
# Jul 22 2003 at 8:36 AM Rating: Decent
Did this last night with my wizzy friend, and my 47 troll shammy. The spawn time on the Drunken Pirates is 15 minutes. Oh and there are 6 of them. The bad part was I didnt find the 6th one until the 3rd hour of trying to get the flask to drop. He was up the entire time I was there and he had the flask on him the entire time.

On a side note with the stone that is given to you, if you have a Ralic pack you can put the stone in there because a Ralic pack holds giant items.

Line of sight
# Jul 13 2003 at 8:33 PM Rating: Decent
Ok finished the quest tonight solo with my 46 shammy. posts were very helpful, but could not pull mobs from behind the huts, kept getting a "you cannot see target" message. so could only pull mobs that I could see from outside when door is opened. took me about an hour for the empty flask to drop. after that Flotsam and Jetsam are simple. great spell and glad I took the time to finish quest. Just remember that there is a line of sight issue with the drunken pirates, perhaps they changed the zone, not sure but definitely can't pull from behind the huts. good luck
No pet? YES PET!
# Jun 27 2003 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
Everyone says don't summon pet. I tried it this way at first and was going through mana way to fast, I am not a twink so I don't have jbb all that good stuff. Go behind that 3rd house behind that brewing looking thing, summon pet, get your pet all ready. Then walk up to the house let it agro through the wall, be ready to "pet back off" they will hit through the wall sometimes and your pet will go running through the wall, then back up real quick near the brewing lookin thing and when it comes out you slow it sick pet. While the pet is chewing it up I like to hit it with a lower lvl malo line because they do have high magic resistance. Then just root it when it hits near 20% that's when they run and you can get adds.
For those who think pets will agro others doing this quest. I helped a 44 shammy the other day and both of us had our pets up, I pull and slow and both our pets would chew them up we did not get any adds unless I pulled were 2 mobs were right next to each other. I seem to notice that the pets have a much smaller agro range then I do. My pet a few times has killed a mob that wandered fairly close to a mob without causing agro, but when I go to loot it agro's the mob.
