The quest starts with Nolwik Barquin near the lighthouse in Gunthak.

You say, 'Hail, Nolwik Barquin'

Nolwik Barquin says 'The salty air grows stale in this place. As if the essence of Tunare and Karana have been shut out by the dark tide of Broken Skull. The wind of Karana grows wild and restless, and the water of the mother turns black as it touches the tainted stone of Innoruuk. Were it not for my [promise] to Xanuusus I would not be here.'

You say, 'What promise?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'Since I was a boy, Xanuusus has entrusted me with a pair of holy symbols, one of Karana, and one of Tunare. I guarded them faithfully since that day until recently. I had been patrolling Innothule swamp in hopes of finding the wayward trolls that had been disturbing those of Tunare's children that inhabit the wetlands. Unknown to me at the time, a new [presence] was there in the swamp that day.'

You say, 'What presence?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'I had just found a troll threatening a water moccasin a fair distance from the gates of Grobb. The troll looked to be dressed a bit differently then most of the other trolls I'd found recently. He had a patch over one eye, and his armor appeared to be of much higher quality then anything the Bashers normally carried. I paid it no heed though, and continued planning my [attack] on the unsuspecting troll.'

You say, 'What attack?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'Just as I was beginning to weave my first spell against the troll, a large wet figure struck me by surprise knocking me to the ground. I staggered to my feet and looked at my attacker. It was a larger then normal troll holding a rather large curved sword and shield. It scowled at me with a sort of enraged hunger as it licked its lips in apparent anticipation of a fresh [meal].'

You say, 'What meal?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'As fate would have it the troll would go hungry that night. Although I was badly injured from his initial strike, I was able to stand and weave the roots of the nearby trees around his feet which allowed me time to gate away before more of his friends arrived. It wasn't until I arrived in the plains of Karana that I realized that I had lost my holy [emblems].'

You say, 'What holy emblems?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'I highly doubt that the trolls know the importance of the symbols they have stolen from me, but I am sure they at least recognize the value of the metal they were forged from. I suspect that they have tossed them in with the rest of their treasure as if they were nothing more then gold coins. I must get them back at all costs.'

You are looking for two medallions in Dulak's harbor. Both look like gold coins and are called "A Golden Emblem" (magic item, no drop, ranger only). When identified, the item lore in your chat box is: "Symbol of Karana" or "Symbol of Tunare." You need one of each emblem. They seem to be a fairly rare drop off of "a shady treasure sorter" and "a storage worker" in Dulak Harbor. The sorters have the Karana symbol and the workers have the Tunare symbol. These two mobs are mostly found in warehouses along with "a storage attendant" but the attendant does NOT drop anything for this quest.

Return one of each type of "A Golden Emblem" to Nolwik Barquin in Gunthak to receive your Spell: Healing Water.

Nolwik Barquin gasps as you hand him the two symbols. 'I am in your debt, _____. There is nothing I can ever do to repay you, but I can at least teach you of the healing water that Tunare has shown me how to control. Take this scroll, I pray to Tunare that it will serve you well.'

Receive Spell: Healing Water.

Golden Emblem
# Dec 14 2010 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
Heya All, Just wanted to add my 2cp. I went into zone at lv 44, I am now lv 50. I had Shady Treasure Sorter drop the Golden Emblems (Karana) like 4 times in the past two days. Mobs are now almost all light blue, and turning green. I am about halfway to lv 51 now, and Superior Healing is in my reach. So I am giving up on getting the Golden Emblem (Tunare). What is SOE thinking about makeing this such a "RARE" drop? Yes I would like to have this spell in my book, but I don't need it that bad anymore! I killed constantly in the two wearhouses across from each other. I had all other emblems drop off of A Storage Worker (the DE ones), but not the Golden emblem needed.

In the positive thinking, I made a few plat and went up six levels :)

I wish You Luck to any druids who try this quest!

Use the Gulf of Gunthak marker in PoK (-745,+1225).
Cast Levitate, SoW and Camo, go south then west through
the windy passages to Dulak's Harbor (-1020,+2450).
You can explore the zone from there with SoW, Camo and Track.

some thoughts
# Jul 01 2006 at 11:44 PM Rating: Decent
You know, given the conversation you have with the quest NPC, you'd think it'd be a *troll* you have to kill to get the drops, not a dark elf.

Anyhow, I camped the treasure building closest to the Gunthak zone for about 2.5 hrs last night and got nothing... other than lots of dropped weapons, more shivs than one would ever need, and lots and lots of coin. And exp. Not a single emblem though.

I'm going to head back in and try the building closest to the third boat since others have reported more success there.

No, you wouldn't think it's a troll. The NPC said "I suspect that they have tossed them in with the rest of their treasure as if they were nothing more then gold coins," not "Find the troll who did this." =p
Patterns

By Boat #3 there's a warehouse full of Storage Workers, Storage Attendants and those Shady Treasure Sorters. It's around loc neg193, neg1144. There's a fenced in yard just north of it that makes a perfect place to set up camp.

Over the past few hours, I've recorded patterns of mob spawns. Starting just outside the door, I'll list the mobs in counter-clockwise order:

1. (outside) Storage Attendant
Pattern seems random on race (Troll, Dark Elf, Ogre, Human, Ogre, Ogre)

2. Just inside door to the right, Storage Worker
Pattern seems to be Troll, Troll, Dark Elf, in a constant rotating pattern.

3. Next on that wall is a Shady Treasue Sorter
Pattern seems to be Gnome, Gnome, Dark Elf, Dark Elf

4. There are two guys that stand close to each other, one in front of the logs, one on top. The one in front is a Storage Attendant.
His pattern seems to be Human, Human, Dark Elf

5. The guy on top of the logs is a Storage Worker.
Pattern seems to be Human, Dark Elf, and then a random choice of Dark Elf or Troll.

6. The mob on top of the scaffold in the northeast corner of the building is a Shady Treasure Sorter.
Pattern seems to be Dark Elf, Dark Elf, Gnome.
My first drop was from this mob.

7. The mob standing just in front of the scaffolding is a Storage Attendant.
Pattern seems to be random (Human, Dark Elf, Ogre, Troll, Ogre)

8. Finally, tucked in the northwest corner is a Storage Worker.
Pattern seems to be a consistent Dark Elf, Dark Elf, Human rotation.

After a few hours, I'm giving up on this building, and literally camped in the fenced yard since there was no wandering aggro. Tomorrow I'm going to camp the building at neg 100, neg 800, although breaking the building will be tougher since there are a few wandering mobs outside ... Once I break the building, I'll probably set up camp *inside* the building.

While clearing the three warehouses and the hidden area in the middle (you have to jump on some planks to get in and jump off the side of a building to get out) I noticed that attendants, sorters, and workers all spawned in the same spot. Now, given that I'm just doing this spell now to fill up my spellbook I've started saving trouble by simply killing the kind I need as killing the attendants has so far always netted me an attendant repop and so on for the other types.

Edit: To fully elaborate on all locations, the four locations where you can find these mobs are the warehouse closest to the docks at -280, -1000 (1); the one slightly west and north of the previous one at -100, -950 (2); the hidden area behind the previous one at -75, -720 (you enter in here by jumping off the planks near -160, -928 or so over the wall, you get out by getting on the left side at -66, -700 and jumping over the wall from the lip) (3); and the one nearish the zoneline at -101, -224 (4). Here's a list of what's in each one:

(1) - Just outside by the boxes there's always a storage attendant. There are three storage workers in here, one in the back standing on the logs and two on either side of the door in the corners. There's two treasure sorters in here, one standing by the planks on the right and one on the platform in the back left. Two more storage attendants are in here as well, one standing below the wooden platform in the back left and one in front of the logs.

(2) - Again, just outside there is a mob, this time on the left by the barrels; a shady treasure sorter. Just inside the door on the right is a storage attendant and to the left near the corner is a storage worker. Ahead and to the right in front of the plants stand a shady treasure sorter and then a storage attendant. Another treasure sorter is standing on top of the logs and a storage worker in the pile of hay in front of them.

(3) - Once you jump over the short wall off of the planks run ahead and when the right area opens up you'll see one of each type: a storage attendant, a storage worker, and a shady treasure sorter. Kill whichever of the two types that drop the emblems that you need. The storage worker popped at a dark elf three times in a row but I'm not certain if that spawn is fixed that way (Edit again, a human version popped, so I just got lucky). All over spawns are usually a random race.

(4) - Directly outside to the left of the door by the boxes is a shady treasure sorter. If you don't feel like clearing the actual warehouses or aren't capable, this mob is a good one to solo camp. There are three storage workers in here, one just inside the door to the left, one to the left in the middle behind the planks, and one standing in front of the logs in the back right. There are two storage attendants, one on the right as you come in and one in the back left on the platform. There is also a shady treasure sorter standing by the logs as well.

So all in all, there are 9 storage workers, 8 shady treasure sorters, and 9 storage attendants. Good luck on this, I'm definitely seeing how this can get tedious.

You hold the emblem on your cursor and have the enchanter, wizard, or whoever cast Identify on you. It will give you a message, either emblem of Karana or Tunare.

You don't actually need to identify the emblems. Just get one from a shady treasure sorter and one from a storage worker, and they'll be different. If you want to check, find a mage/chanter/wizard/whatever and ask politely if they'll cast Identify for you.

I finally got both pieces in one night, after spending 4 earlier nights getting neither (but good xp and loot!). I was already 48 when I started, and dinged 50 the night I got 'em, plus I made most of an AA on my monk who I brought in one time to hunt in my druid's place (in the hope of not dinging 51 before getting this spell). When I did get them they were both from the easternmost of the three warehouses, but that's probably coincidence. And as others have said, both drops came from Dark Elf mobs, though of course you have to kill the others to get more Dark Elves to pop.

While I was at it I also got 3/4 of the parts of the Charm of the Brotherhood, which I hear works really well with shared wolf form. /grin

did this in just a couple hours on my 58 beastlord... camped my druid in the corner of the storage shed and logged her on when emblems dropped. If you can get a group then this quest should not take over 3 hours, but it does depend on the drop rate. Workers/treasure sorters spawn about every 7-10 minutes. First treasure sorter killed actually dropped the emblem so I guess I could just be lucky.
Worth a try

Got it on my first visit to the zone. In a pickup group and a random camp spot, no less. It was about two hours before the first one dropped, the second dropped within five minutes of the first. We were only pulling the dark elf version of the two mobs of interest. Got about 10% of a level of exp (level 46) as well.

This quest sucks hard, I've spent about 15 hrs in Dulak killing these Dark Elf workers and sorters, none of them have dropped anything but shivs. What a waste of time, they shouldn't make this quest so impossibly hard, its just a spell we should have gotten anyways with classic EQ, its not some massively powerful item that significantly overpowers your character.

Do these emblems drop at any particular warehouse or do you just go from building to building looking for them?

By the way, which buildings are the warehouses?

This quest took me 14 hours of killing in Dulak. I ended up with 2 of the Karana version before finally getting the Tunare version of the emblem. The only good thing about this quest is that I made 4 levels and a ton of cash fighting in Dulak.

But I can finally cast a better heal spell.

Do not go here assuming you will get both pieces in one session. (There is a reason as to why EQ has /gems implemented in this game.)I started this camp when I was mid 46th and finally got both emblems at late 47th. This was a casual camp where my team made the most of a normally boring and long situation.

I dont suggest coming here with a pick up group as there are faster places to gain xp, like the Planes. Camps are a little less frustrating if the company is good and competent. If you're like me, be sure to buy a bag of bandaids for your tanks (good tanks always work on bind wound.) unless you want to play supply runner. Its just considerate to do so especially if the xp here is poor for some warriors. It also saves on mana if you are KEI-less. If there's more than one tank, they can work up other melee skills as well. Camps like this are a good time to do that if need be. Its better to be safe than sorry so if you dont have someone who can cast Identify on the emblems, I suggest picking up a SILVERY MASK. It has unlimited charges of Identify, and everyone loves clickies! I got mine for 100p on Tholuxe. Load up on buffs like KEI, Temp etc before you go if you think you need them.

On to the quest!
A nice camp is the storage shed mentioned in a couple of earlier posts. Zone into Dulak (Stonebrunt - Gunthak - Dulak) and camo up. Use track if you dont want to read the threads for the location of the storage shed. (Mistwulf posted that it is n280, n1080) The shed/ barn is straight from zone and slightly to your right a bit. As soon as you enter, sit in the right corner where the stack of planks are. This is camp. Do not bind here however as you'll end up in a horrible death loop if things go badly. There will be some boxes nearby, do not go too close to them as there is a mob just on the otherside. Use F9 to have a good look or camo up and look for yourself. Have a good look around and know where the mobs are. They are static and YES there is a possibility for adds. Fear not, you can always train to zone. If you have a good monk on your team like I did, he'll have scouted the area already and will have strategies for pulling. For people who've never grouped with monks, please DO NOT MOVE when the monk is in the middle of a pull/ split. This includes looting or just popping up and down. The mobs here hit HARD and if youre a fidgity caster, you'll be calling in PoK for a rezz soon enough.

All emblems looted (I got 3 total) dropped off of only the DARK ELF sorters and workers. Its a random pop what you get so if you can, its a good idea to clear the room. Work your way from the mob just on the other side of the boxes first. (Always clear your camp) Then go across the room to the left side of the door and work your way around. Don't forget the treasure sorter just outside the door, but becareful with this one because you may end up adding a wanderer as well. The mobs, especially the dark elves, will resist quite a bit of spells if youre here at around a low 46. Root is one of them. I recommend dotting these boys in case a root or snare doesnt stick while the mob is fleeing at very low health. Keep your party in the shed, do not poke your heads out as there is a sorter just outside the door and a couple of wanderers. Unless you have a monk who can FD off an add, let the dot kill him. If it goes bad, sink yourself into the corner while your tanks hold aggro. By sinking yourself into the corner, you have less chance of being moved during a hit and thus have a greater possibility of the spell taking off while your tanks buy you time.

Spells I kept up during this camp after the buff session:
*Shield of Spikes
- DS for tanks
*Greater Healing
- duh
*Ensnare & Enveloping Roots
- better safe than sorry. ALWAYS snare mobs in case root breaks or doesnt take.
*Ro's Fiery Sundering / Fixation of Ro
- lowers AC & Atk. helps assist your tanks.
*Drifting Death
- DoT (along with a clicky swarm from my Elder Spiritist's Vambraces to stack!)
*Lesser Succor
- evac
*Pack Spirit of Wolf
- in case you need to run to zone
**Calefaction
-This was my nuke as well as my free slot for buffs.

This is a long camp and most of the people I spoke to have put more than one session into this quest. However, it is a great spell to have and bridges the gap nicely between Greater Healing(29) and Superior Healing(51). Its even BETTER if you couple this spell with an Improve Healing item like Idol of the Underking or Book of Obolus. Also, this quest is MQable so if you get spares, save them for fellow druids. We should always take care of eachother. I still have my Tunare emblem so as of Dec 16, PST if any druids there need this half of the quest. I will gladly MQ this for you.

I want to thank Debacle, Kovorkien, Revistyx, Daruadar and Senk on Tholuxe for aiding me during the random times we've camped this spell. I learned a lot about your classes and have a higher appreciation for quality players.

Has the spell name of Calefaction changed to Dust Devil? I can't for the live of me find Calefaction and on casters realm, someone mentioned one of the Pathfinder vendors in the pok library who had Calefaction... but when I looked, there was no Calefaction, only Dust Devil. Falls in the right level range~

Help?

Calefaction has been changed from a fire based spell to a magic based nuke. Very nice for when u face a mob that is fire and cold resistant. I find it handy.

They seem to have nerfed Harmony. I can't seem to pull singles with it, or with snare as a level 46 druid in Dulak. M<aybe they just resisted it..? (no message indicating that)

I did get lucky with my drops and completed the quest in under 6 hours.

Awesome post - great information! One thing I would like to add from my experience is use a caster to pull. What a caster?!? Yes a caster. Caster pulls with a non-damage spell, like snare. I NEVER used harmony and have now killed so many, my faction cannot get any worse. BUT - if I pull with snare (no damage) only one mob comes at a time from the barn, no matter how close they are to each other. Pull with damage spell and start hitting the macro hot key for train to zone.

As you can tell by my faction I have killed many, many, many workers and sorters - BUT I STILL NEED THE STUPID DROP FROM THE WORKER! DROP I SAY! DROP!

Well, apparently not on my server Stromm. Me (the druid) ends up being the one who snares the MOB when a ranger has arrows. Otherwise I see the MOB walking off to try to get his buddies while the ranger and MT whack on him. <Sigh>. Smiley: disappointed Somehow the fact that the MOB moves at reduced speed during the battle is missed by them. <Big Sigh.> Smiley: confused When questioned, I get told that they wait until the MOBs health is low and they turn to snare. My thoughts from lots of soloing.. TOO LATE ONCE THEY TURN. Smiley: banghead

Camped the storage sheds for about 8 hours total. Started just into level 44 and got it before 2 yellows into 45. There is no need to identify the emblems, you just need one from the treasurers and one from the workers.

However, root does not stick well on these guys. I had help from a higher level druid to get my emblems and would recommend the same if you want to get the spell near level 44. They are definitely killable at 44 but it's VERY slow and you will have a lot of downtime. At 45 it's better with KEI but still tough to clear the sheds.

If you are able to get a druid with dire charm to help you it shouldn't be too bad of a camp but these things drop so randomly you could still sit there for days. I'm just glad I got it finally. It's nice to finally be able to heal for more than I could at 29.

I, for one, think this quest is worth the wait. I got some friends together, 3 level 45s, 1 level 52 and 1 level 65 and we went into Dulak. I had gotten a Karana emblem already from someone who was letting them rot, but ooc'ing them. That one I got off of a sorter ~ @n900,n100 according to EQ Atlas map: http://www.eqatlas.com/ykesha/dulakmap.html
I went and bought a Silvery Mask, because I did not have a friend who could cast Identify. I picked one up in the bazaar for 300pp. You should bring along with you some way to id, since these coins are NOT lore and you can loot more than one, but they all look the same. You need to id them (and remember what each one was).
I got a second Karana emblem off of another sorter at n1250,p50 (the little shack backed up to the water). Both times the sorter was deep in the building, not hanging out out front.
We spent a long time killing workers after that on the east side of Dulak to no avail. We decided to go to the west side, where some storage workers also hung out. I found the Tunare emblem on a worker at n100,n250 (the big barn like building). A named also pops there.

As for the turn in, you need to go to Nolwik, who is at p100,p1250 in the Gulf of Gunthank:

right around the lighthouse. I gave him both coins at the same time and got the spell.

Got the emblem off the storage worker within a few hours. Have been quadding shady's (lvl 54)for 3 days now and no emblem. loot and plat is decent. For as much work and time as this is taking, this spell should have a 2 second cast time. Mobs are dark blue to a level 54 druid for a silly lvl 44 spell. what's new?

Takes Forever

Not to be discouraging, but I camped these guys for over 10 hours, partly solo and partly with a paladin friend. I spent my time in the small corner between the warehouse and dock #3 (Dadolak Boat). I pulled from the warehouse to the left of me and across from me. In this time I had several gems drop and the repugnant leather boots that dropped off Treasure Sorter Neiben. The second time I brought a pally in he was a lvl 63, so it was like a cake walk for him, and it made killing much faster. When I finally got my two emblems, (which do not say Karana/Tunare, but the quest info is correct in that one drops off the storage worker, and the other from the shady treasure sorter), I ported back to the lighthouse and turned them in to receive my spell and oddly enough he gave me one of the emblems back. I dunno if this has happened before, or if they were the same emblems, cuz i never bothered to have identity cast on me. In any case I got the spell, but it was a lot of work even for a lvl 56, to get a lvl 44 spell.

P.S. I only did it cuz the spell looks really kewl when ya use it :0)

Would guess that someone else turned in a single medallion at a prior time.

Finished this quest last night and after changing locations the drop rate improved. Had previously camped a building on Gunthak half of zone with zero drops. Moved over to the top of boat ramp 3 (EQ Atlas) and pulled from building straight across from the ramp and had both medallions drop within 3 hours. Good luck.

Went to Boat Ramp 3 (the Dadolak Boat) and camped there. Got both my emblems in one day. They dropped from the 3 warehouses in this area. Did not have the spell Identify, but others were there who did have it (bard). Otherwise u have no idea which medallion u have as they just say A Golden Emblem. Hold the Emblem in ur hand and have someone cast identify on u. Got one emblem from the left warehouse (which we actually camped inside of once it was cleared) and one emblem from the right warehouse. Lots of peeps soloing here so shout out for rotting Golden Emblem as only Druids can use these. That's how I got my 2nd emblem. A bard was soloing and an emblem was rotting. Good Luck! Not as hard as I thot.
p.s. The Book of Obulus was a great suggestion. I'm healing for 502hps as of last night. Get it!
