The quest starts with Nolwik Barquin near the lighthouse in Gunthak.

You say, 'Hail, Nolwik Barquin'

Nolwik Barquin says 'The salty air grows stale in this place. As if the essence of Tunare and Karana have been shut out by the dark tide of Broken Skull. The wind of Karana grows wild and restless, and the water of the mother turns black as it touches the tainted stone of Innoruuk. Were it not for my [promise] to Xanuusus I would not be here.'

You say, 'What promise?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'Since I was a boy, Xanuusus has entrusted me with a pair of holy symbols, one of Karana, and one of Tunare. I guarded them faithfully since that day until recently. I had been patrolling Innothule swamp in hopes of finding the wayward trolls that had been disturbing those of Tunare's children that inhabit the wetlands. Unknown to me at the time, a new [presence] was there in the swamp that day.'

You say, 'What presence?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'I had just found a troll threatening a water moccasin a fair distance from the gates of Grobb. The troll looked to be dressed a bit differently then most of the other trolls I'd found recently. He had a patch over one eye, and his armor appeared to be of much higher quality then anything the Bashers normally carried. I paid it no heed though, and continued planning my [attack] on the unsuspecting troll.'

You say, 'What attack?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'Just as I was beginning to weave my first spell against the troll, a large wet figure struck me by surprise knocking me to the ground. I staggered to my feet and looked at my attacker. It was a larger then normal troll holding a rather large curved sword and shield. It scowled at me with a sort of enraged hunger as it licked its lips in apparent anticipation of a fresh [meal].'

You say, 'What meal?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'As fate would have it the troll would go hungry that night. Although I was badly injured from his initial strike, I was able to stand and weave the roots of the nearby trees around his feet which allowed me time to gate away before more of his friends arrived. It wasn't until I arrived in the plains of Karana that I realized that I had lost my holy [emblems].'

You say, 'What holy emblems?'

Nolwik Barquin says 'I highly doubt that the trolls know the importance of the symbols they have stolen from me, but I am sure they at least recognize the value of the metal they were forged from. I suspect that they have tossed them in with the rest of their treasure as if they were nothing more then gold coins. I must get them back at all costs.'

You are looking for two medallions in Dulak's harbor. Both look like gold coins and are called "A Golden Emblem" (magic item, no drop, ranger only). When identified, the item lore in your chat box is: "Symbol of Karana" or "Symbol of Tunare." You need one of each emblem. They seem to be a fairly rare drop off of "a shady treasure sorter" and "a storage worker" in Dulak Harbor. The sorters have the Karana symbol and the workers have the Tunare symbol. These two mobs are mostly found in warehouses along with "a storage attendant" but the attendant does NOT drop anything for this quest.

Return one of each type of "A Golden Emblem" to Nolwik Barquin in Gunthak to receive your Spell: Healing Water.

Nolwik Barquin gasps as you hand him the two symbols. 'I am in your debt, _____. There is nothing I can ever do to repay you, but I can at least teach you of the healing water that Tunare has shown me how to control. Take this scroll, I pray to Tunare that it will serve you well.'

Receive Spell: Healing Water.

Xanuusus?
# Jul 23 2003 at 10:31 AM Rating: Decent
Nolwik Barquin says 'Since I was a boy, Xanuusus has entrusted me with a pair of holy symbols, one of Karana, and one of Tunare.

Has anyone tried turning these in to Xanuusus (the Druid Epic Treant in NK) to see what he says, if anything?

I doupt that they have put something like that into effect or will ever, but it is a neat idea and something to try Spaeeazz. I would try and reply back, yet I have not had much luck in the search for the symbols. I have looked for about 20+ hours. Buf if I get to where I can; I will try it and post back!

Has anyone done a /feedback on this quest to see if they will increase the drop rate? It would seem the they made the quest way to rare for just a lvl 44 healing spell.

Drop rate could be over time not per mob
# Jul 19 2003 at 2:55 AM Rating: Decent
Drop rate could be over time not per mob for the tunare emblem from the DE storage workers.

Had a 65 bard (pulling tanking regen) 65 Wizard (Dps) and 42 cleric (CH cleric boxxed by wizzy) and we were AoE'ing all the spawns, not quite keeping up the respawn rate.
We did this for 8 hours, had 2 Karana emblems drop from the DE shadey treasure seeker, nothing from the storage workers.

Got a bit hairy a few times pulling upto 10 mobs, guards like to aggro when yor bard is screaming around smacking every storage worker on track and were actually hurting us.
It was pretty funny seeing the usual farmers run screaming thinking we had some hideous train too heheehhe.

Ok I tried this quest once so far at lev 42. I had just found out about the spell so I thaght an atempt was in order. I went to the zone right before you zone to the harbor with the tunnels full of mounts and mushrooms and flowers. First I asked some PC's that were grouped about the zone lev of mobs and classes all mobs coned bark blue to me so I thaght I would put inviz up and give it a try, (FYI the trolls there are undead so if you can get past them first you should be ok). I didn't get to far before my inviz failed me and I started a train ending in a most disapinting death. So I went back and found a higher lev group to help with CR I got corpes back and went on and got to an area looked like a small town with mobs in robes. So I thatgh I would come here and see if anyone knows more about theses mobs as well as the mobs in the zone were I need to get the quest items and the mobs there. what lev group should I form to complete this quest and what should i expect to see in the next zone..

As a level 54 Druid, the quest mobs con light blue and dark blue to me. My guess would be that a group averaging in level around 45 should be able to take these out.

As far as the village mobs go, only know of one named shammy that is a rare spawn there that can see through invis. Go straight on through the village to Dulak zone.

As for Dulak zone, when you zone in, there will be cliffs on each side of you. Follow the path to the buildings and go straight out. Between the second and third building on your right, you will see what appears to be an alley. The far end of that alley where it turns to the left is a fairly safe place to set up camp. Only one wondering mob comes through there and you can fight without having any additional adds as long as you don't poke your heads through the walls in the buildings around you.

NOTE: If you do poke your head through the walls, you WILL get agro.

My suggestion, take out the quest mob at entrance to the alley first, then set up camp and kill the wondering Troll first chance you get and keep him killed.

The other quest mobs spawn in the building that's door is on the alley you are camping in.

Other information:
It appears to me that these mobs wont add when you are pulling as long as you don't do any actual damage when you pull. I use snare with my Druid and single pull from the back of buildings that are full of mobs. However, when I'm playing my Pally and I tried to pull the front mob with an arrow, my group got swarmed with adds and died a very painful death.

Hope this helps you some.

Okay first off this was insane! We had full grp consited of 1 monk,1 warrior,2 clerics, ranger and me the druid. Highest lvl was 57 and lowest me at 40 almost 42 now cause great xp..It took us 10hrs to do this. You want to kill shady treasure sorter and storage worker you need one golden emblem off of each of them. Next let me say my best wishes are with be patient assist at all costs and relax its a game.. We had a few hairy moments. Oh i would recommend bringing bat wings for the run through the harbor, and Oh one more thing dont try to yank somebody's camp out of impatients try and work something out. That happened to us and it just started a arguement, but eventually they left. Defiantley not a waste of time with or without the drops great xp and nice loot.

Rare drop!
# Jul 04 2003 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
I was in there last night with my 47th lvl druid. We killed steadily for at least 2 hours (we being cleric, pally, bst, monk and sk, all 50+). Didn't see either of these symbols, but did see a couple others for a charm quest. OOCs to offer plat to loot either symbol got no responses.

On the bright side, I got just about 13 blues of exp, and my 6th of the loot came to 288pp. Hard to call that a waste of time, even if I didn't end up getting the spell.

Was told only one emblem was needed now, so when I got one off a storage worker I turned it in ... and got nothing in return.) I was told after I went back to the zone that I need only get the other and turn it in to get the spell. You still need both emblems.

It seems likely that you were just lucky enough to turn in 1 emblem after someone else had turned in the other one - in effect you MQ'd it without knowing.

there are 2 emblems. One drops off "a shady treasure sorter" and the other drops off "a storage worker". They drop different emblems and you have to do an identify to know the difference since they both look the same.
I found that the drop of "a shady treasure sorter" was more common, but since you kinda need both emblems it can be a pain to do this quest.

It took me some experimentation (not being used to playing a caster class) to figure out how to use the identify spell (or item; in my case I used a Silvery Mask).

Pick up the emblem so it's on your cursor, then cast (or right-click cast your mask) and the normal text box will display which emblem it is. Pretty simple once you've figured out how to do it.

The emblems are NOT lore and you can collect several of each and the lore item warning won't make it any easier in identifying which one you've got or if you have a matching pair. =\

Hope this helps.
Only took one emblem

I just completed this quest with the help of a 58 mage. The first coin/emblem dropped after 5 kills or so and the second never dropped at all while we were there. So I went back alone and soloed a treasure sorter with snare/root/dots and it took a bit, but he finally died and he had the emblem.

I went back to guntahk and turned them in and got spell and 1 emblem back. They may have changed the quest, because neither showed as Symbol of tunare or Karana, just as a gold Emblem.

All in all I think it's possible, but dangerous for a lone druid at 45 to do it, but there are rats over there to charm and use as pets

Just MQ'd this for a druid friend, since the last piece she needed dropped when she wasn't online. She DID get the spell when she did her turn-in, so maybe this will save some time for somebody else out there.

I completed this quest in about 10min. Here's how I did it.....
Zoned into Dulap's and stated I was lookin for a golden emblem. Someone replied, gave me a loc and I looted. It was on a shady so i looked for a worker. Killed the first one I saw and looted that emblem. Went back to Gunthak and turned the two emblems in for my spell. My 44 druid's healing spell is now upgraded.

These symbols are soooo rare. I have been in the zone a few times killing these guys with guild members, and have not received one symbol yet. I've easily spent 10 hrs in this zone trying to do this dumb quest. Someone needs to up the drop rate of these symbols.

The drop seems EXTREMLY rare. We fought in Dulak for several days about 12 to 16 hours so far (!). Not ONE golden emblem drops. :-/ I am 46 to 47 now. Began with this quest when I was 43.
Sorry, but this quest REALLY sucks if you have to get groups over and over without success (and we killed MANY workers, sorterers, attendants ++).

*sigh*

Don't forget
# Mar 19 2003 at 3:47 PM Rating: Decent
Don't forget that there ARE animals around the spawn points to charm. Those warf rats, with pet buff, really can take out 3 mobs and only get down to 2/3 life! Saves mana, but watch for charm breaks, a buffed pet can take you down very quickly.

I just completed this quest. The 'Golden Emblems' needed (identified as 'symbols') do drop from "a shady treasure sorter" and "a storage worker" but I believe these mobs *must* be Dark Elves - the emblems do not seem to drop from mobs of any other race (there are Gnomes and Dark Elves in the shady treasure sorter spawn cycle, and Humans, Trolls, and Dark Elves in the storage worker spawn cycle). I got lucky with the shady treasure sorter - the first DE treasure sorter I killed dropped the first emblem. The second emblem was much more difficult for me to get - I killed storage workers for almost eight solid hours (perhaps 15 of them were Dark Elves - their spawns all seem to be on a 20 minute timer, give or take a minute or two) before I got the one that finally dropped the emblem.

Additional info: I'm 55 and this got me 6 blue bubbles of leveling experience (a nice bonus since I wasn't really there for experience). The loot can be GOOD, too. I looted one blue diamond from a shady treasure sorter, and a regular diamond from a storage worker (both Dark Elves, incidentally) - plus several star rubies and various other nice cash gems and jewelry. A named treasure sorter (a Troll - I forget his name) dropped 'Repugnant Leather Boots' in a nearby warehouse and someone allowed me loot them (thanks again, Groovy =), and I also looted an 'Abalone Ear Stud' from a storage worker - nice droppable (but Lore) earring with +5 WIS and some other decent stats on it (CLR DRU SHM / ALL).

EDIT: The Golden Emblem from the shady treasure sorter identified as the 'Symbol of Karana.' The emblem from the storage worker identified as the 'Symbol of Tunare.' These guys all conned either light blue or dark blue to me (mostly dark blue), which would probably put their level range anywhere from the upper 30's to the low 40's.

Be advised: all mobs in this zone DO break root FREQUENTLY (but none see through camo). Otherwise, they resisted snare occasionally and my fire-based dot (I use 'Breath of Ro') about 50% of the time. No resists to other dots. (Plan on getting KEI if you can though - these mobs have lots of hitpoints.)

These guys also seem to have an unusually *short* agro range too (UNlike the "Broken Skull scouts" that are all over the zone). It was possible for me to actually med uninvised and camp them *inside* the warehouse (I was in the warehouse closest to the Gunthak zoneline), *without* drawing agro from other mobs also inside the warehouse. (I perched myself on a woodpile in the corner near the doorway.)

(Be sure to stay away from the walls as much as possible though, because 'roamers' outside the building WILL agro through the walls if you get too close while they're walking by. After a mob died near a wall, I would actually invis up after the kill and run outside to make sure nothing was close before going back in and looting it.)

This is an outdoor zone, so SoW and Wolf Form are possible - but not Levitation or SoE.

And finally: There is one storage worker spawn in the farthest corner from the doorway in the warehouse that I was in. This is near (but not too close, I think) to a shady treasure sorter spawn (to stay on the safe side I always killed them each seperately, and then looted both corpses afterward). This was where the DE storage worker spawned that finally dropped the second emblem. The DE treasure sorter that I looted the first emblem from actually spawned just outside the same warehouse, at the corner of the building nearest the door.

I don't know if these are the only two spawn points that will produce emblem-dropping DE's in this particular warehouse or not, but since I had to kill so many to get the second emblem to drop, I thought the information worth noting. :)

Cheers,

Bili

Drops off more than those two
# Mar 12 2003 at 9:21 AM Rating: Default
I have hunted alot in Dulak and have seen a bunch of the emblems drop. I have seen them drop from both storage attendents and treasure sorters along with most of the other mobs around the warehouses.

When you zone into Dulak if you run straight through you will come to a dock that is a safe spot for pulling, my regular group has seen enough symbols drop to do the quest 3 or 4 times

Not attendants
# Mar 12 2003 at 7:21 AM Rating: Decent
I have not finished this quest but according to EQ Druids board and The Druid's Grove board the Tunare symbol drops off Storage Workers not attendants.

When the item drops, it's labeled as a Golden Emblem and for the class RNG. I had one rot (kicking myself for doing so) because I thought I had the wrong item. When I cast ID on the next one it identified as Symbol of Karana.

Well, I finished this Quest and the Tunare Symbol did drop off a storage WORKER, not attendant (I killed many of both...)
