Go to the Gulf of Gunthak. The NPC you're looking for is Millius Darkwater, and he's on the left side of the lighthouse from the direction you zone in. He's standing on the edge of the platform looking out over the water.

Your Location is 1324.49, -100.93, 3.13

Millius Darkwater regards you indifferently -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

You say, 'Hail, Millius Darkwater'

Millius Darkwater lifts his sword out of the water at his feet and scans his eyes across you. 'Hello, ______. The waters stir angrily today. Prexus is not pleased at the tarnishing of his waters by the spawn of Innoruuk. The Deepwater Knights have been trying to locate this [place] for many years.'

You say, 'What place?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The legends of Broken Skull Rock have been whispered for years. Indeed several of our greatest vessels were lost while in search of this island. Many of our [knights] died trying to cleanse Prexus' waters of this great Evil.'

You say, 'What knights?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Most recently a Cavalier named Chester Steelblade went in search of the legend. He was gone at sea for months before we received word from him. The letter we received spoke of a map that he'd found as well as a somewhat cryptic reference to having found the [key] to Broken Skull Rock. One of our [clerics] took a small group out in search of him, but we have received no news from either group.'

You say, 'What key?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Chester was not very clear as to what he found, some sort of black stone skull from what was in his writings.. We're sure that he must have found something that led him here. We have found no sign of him or his crew yet. Truthfully it would be a miracle if he were still alive. I follow his path in hopes that I can continue his work where he left off. If he is dead then his spirit may yet linger here. Tied to this world by his unfinished task.'

You say, 'What clerics?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The cleric that went in search of Chester's crew is called Alina Crystalia and she was barely more than a student when she left. We didn't want to let her go, but ultimately we had little say in the matter. She was always very fond of Chester. She may have in fact found him, although I suspect too late to save either of them. Clerics of Prexus are required to carry with them a Deepwater Emblem to identify them, if nothing else I hope to find Alinia's emblem to return it to Erudin.'

Now you have to get "A Deepwater Emblem," which appears to drop off of random mobs in Dulak and Gunthak. It looks like a silver ring with a large black stone in it. I got mine on one of the docks in Dulak harbor, seem to be more common of the Crew of the ships in Dulak. I heard someone in ooc get theirs at the fort in Gunthak. The drop comes down to luck. I got mine in about 15 min, some people camp for 2 days. Once you have the emblem, take it back to Millius.

Millius Darkwater bows his head quietly as his eyes bring recognition to his mind. 'Alina at least has met a bitter end. Her spirit surely lingers nearby. Find her and free her from her burden, ______. Her quest goes unfinished.
You gain party experience!!

He gives you back "Alina's Emblem," which looks the same as the old emblem. Now go to the beach south of the lighthouse and kill undead until the female version of "an erudite spirit" spawns. The male version is for one of the pally quests. I found her at loc (neg 855, neg 670) after killing several "a savage skeletal sailor." I heard someone else say they'd seen her on the eastern side of the beach and also mentioned the savage skeletons being her PH, respawn time at 16 minutes. So, if you run around killing the savage skeletons, she should pop for you.

On the beach with the wrecked ships in Gulf of Gunthak (approx. neg840, neg675) an erudite spirit spawns. Cons Indifferent to all.

Turn in Alina's Emblem to the spirit.

You gain experience!!
an erudite spirit is surrounded by a warm glow as the ring touches her ethereal form. Her lips curl into a smile as she begins to fade away into the mist. You hear something fall to the ground. You notice a wet scroll half buried in the sand. You reach down and pick it up.
You gain party experience!!
You have received Spell: Temperance.

Story of my Temp Camp - Easy
# Jul 15 2003 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
Just did this quest. I soloed the whole thing with my Level 58 Cleric.

I got some cloudy potions for the trip to Dulak. I just sat in the zone asking to loot a Deepwater Emblem, and when one dropped at the West Corner boat ramp somebody sent an OOC that one had just dropped. I ran over there and looted it, buffed the crud out of the guys and tried to pay them for their trouble but they wouldn't take the money.

So I went back to Gunthak and camped the Skelle that was up at -840 -675. Once again the cloudy potions where helpful for this run, as was the map I printed out of the zone.

The PH spawned every 20 minutes about, I had to kill it 18 times before the female erudite ghost spawned. Wow what a camp! In that time the male ghost popped in the male ghost loc twice and stayed up most of the time. That one's for the pally quest.

I didn't kill anything else in the zone apart the the occasional skelle that aggroed me when I was running around doing rezes and healing people while I waited for the next spawn. So I think the bit about having to kill the skelle under the water to make the ghost pop is just a load of crud.

The PH took two of my best undead nukes to kill, and with my regular self buffs running nothing in there could hurt me much or interrupt my spells.

-Sumadaru 58th Cleric of Tunare.
Some things to know
# Jul 04 2003 at 10:05 PM Rating: Excellent
Well...

I did the Temperence quest today with a 54 ranger and a 43 beastlord ( quite the combo!! LOL)

I died once on the way in, but once we got in we were fine. We camped the Dandolak's Run and the emblem dropped after about 20 minutes of pulling.

I don't remember what it dropped off of, but we were pulling from the deck.

The ranger had to leave so the BL and I did the turn in to Millis and then went to find Alina. I followed the posts here and we found the site very easily. We chose to fight our way thru instead of invis, for the exp, at lvl 48 the mobs were light blue to me.

We found the place holder, a skeletal sailor, and we had to kill him 3 times before Alina popped. He was on a 20 minute cycle, and right at the loc mentioned -840 -675. When facing the broken hull he will be on the left side.

Alina popped, I gave her the ring and I had my spell! Woot! She truly looks like a female ghost, so she is easy to recognize. My BL friend kept pulling to the loc while we waited and so we got some nice exp, plat and loot as well.

The hardest part was getting to Dulak harbor, you MUST have invis. You can buy "Cloudy Potion" an invis potion, in PoK from Mario Frostpouch, he is in the building by the PoT stone. With a cha of 125 it was about 10p a bottle. It says it lasts about 20 minutes. That should get you thru to the harbor and to a boat. The bottles do not stack, bring extras.

Good luck!

Had this drop in the Broken Skull fort (Gunthak) off of a Troll Plunderer while I was trying to get the medallion for the paladin spell. Of course no cleric was in the zone so it rotted. Have killed about 100 of these things and only seen this once... happy hunting.

Humm, We just finishe this quest. She spawned at 4 PM in the day for us AND we did not kill the sunken ship quys. Took about an hour of killing the stuff for people to get the finger bones for the ring quest, but she and / or her place holder has a spawn time of 20 minutes (could be 19) but we were messing around and not clock watching it. And she did spawn right at the n840 and n675.
Help Please

I have read the posts here as well as some on other sites and I am trying figure out how to get the female Erudite Spirit to spawn. someone mentioned that distance may be a factor, meaning that you can't just camp the spot where she spawns or she won't spawn at all. Any comments on this? It seems that most posts agree that she spawns around neg840 neg675 and I have found that spot and killed the PH there many times over but the spirit is still a no show.

Never mind. I logged on today and she was already there, I didn't even have to kill any skellies. She was exactly where the posts said she would be, right next to the boat at loc neg 855 neg 670.

did the entire quest today. the Emblem was dropping like every 20 minutes on one of the boats in Dulaks Harbor. to get there from Gunthak i used a Larrikans Mask, and was able to run the entire way with no aggro. had to wait for the 3rd emblem cuz other clerics before me where there. took about an hour. gated back to the lighthouse. did the turn in and went look for the female ghost. she was across the water near the undead..she was standing next to the side of the boat. hope this helps..the previous post on the LOC was correct.

I was in a group who exp camped the area on Sat and Sun, plus helped two clerics get the spell yesterday.

The female spirit always spawned approx. neg840, neg675 when it was night time. During the day she never spawned.
Analysis of Temperance
# May 20 2003 at 6:17 PM Rating: Good
First the bad: For me (53 Cleric of Brell) I lost 90hp and 2AC with Temperance over Naltron, Hero, and Words. All of which were overwritten. A small price in my opinion.

Temperance costs 550 mana and a perdot. But the combination of Naltron (350) Hero (140) and Words (300) if far more expensive. Even for a full group using Heroic Bond, Temperance is cheaper on mana.

Another good thing is it sticks to n00bs. We do gooders always like helping up and commers.

And the last good thing is that you free up 2 buffs slots - always a good thing.

It does also rather annoyingly overwrite potg and potc (level 59/60 druid buffs), not sure about pot9/bot9.

Its bad enough Aego and Virtue overwriting, but this as well - come on...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 20 2003 at 1:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well this IS part of the Aego line of spells why shouldnt it not stack? you dont think thats just a little bit overpowered to stack This, Pot9, Fo7, Brells, and SV? that would be a sick amount of HPS...i think its good that Druid and Cleric HPs dont stack

For the record, it does overwrite Pot9.

And what I think he was saying is that it's kind of sad that a level 44 Cleric buff overwrites a level 60 (even 63, with Po9) druid buff. Which I can most definately agree with.

how i got spirit to spawn
# May 13 2003 at 3:22 PM Rating: Default
goto the spawn place of her, N840, N675, kill the skelly there, than go kill the mob in the sunken boat at N22, N520. Than the spirit will have a chance to spawn at her loc. Took me 1 try doing this and got her to pop

Just a little minor note here:

I was gonna do the spell quest for a friend...good thing I decided to log him and and dual box because the spell was NO DROP. From start to finish quest took me 1hr 45min..did it with a 62 ranger and 57 cleric. Emblem ended up dropping on the Donolak off a cannoneer. I cleared the wavecrasher boat 2 times with no luck...shaman that was camping 1st boat and sent me a tell that the emblem had dropped...I headed over to the gulf and the erudite was already spawned...handed in ring (after giving emblem to Millius) and viola! Friend is proud owner of his new spell =)

camped amulet for wife last night with my 43 warrior and her 43 cleric. Boat mobs are hard at this general level, but pretty sweet xp (1% per kill) 3 suggestions for anyone of this level who tries:
1 - Bring a Good tank (1000+ ac buffed and 2800hp+ buffed and i still needed 1 to 2 cheals per fight

2 - Pull to the ramp onto the boat, as long as you keep the ship enginer down below dead it gives you the longest run path for the mobs.

3 - Bring atleast 4 invis potions each if you do not have the means to do it yourself

Deepwater droped after about 2 hours of clearing the crew (and 50% of our levels each DING).
Use invis potions to get in and out, we didnt bump into any casters on the way. We did not have invis potions so we had to train out of the caves in Gulf... suxs holding the line while a cleric camps huh?

hope it helps

what boat is that tough? The 1st 2 certainly aren't, and you don't need to pull off of stormwave or dandolak (aggro radius is non-existant). Lady has a larger aggro radius and oceancrasher is jsut crazy.

I was a little confused when trying to find the undead in the locations described until i realized they were in the gulf zone not the harbor

Another benefit of this being 3 spells in one is that there is that much less chance of filling up the total number of buff slots on the recipient, thus making room for yet more of those shammy/enchanter buffs.

OK this quest write up is WRONG for several reasons:

First of all when you turn-in Deepwater Emblem to Milius Darwater, he DOES NOT give u back "Alina's Ring". He gives you "Alina's Emblem" which looks like a ring but is still called an emblem.

Second, the first turn-in does not spawn the erudite spirit on the beach. You have to make the spirit spawn by killing the Savage and Viscious Skeletal Sailors at N840, N675 which pop every 15-20 mins and keeping the undead spawn in sunken ship at N22, N520 dead. Both of these are mentioned on different posts on this page.

Lastly, you must wait for the female erudite spirit to pop at N840, N675, but she is not called "a female erudite spirit" as I was told by some in the zone that had done the quest, she is called simply "an erudite spirit" and looks female. I never encountered the male version, but if you do, I guess you just kill it and keep killing PHs till the girl pops.

BE WARNED: I was extremely confused when, upon my arrival on the beach, immediately after the first turn-in "an erudite spirit" (female looking) was up a short distance(roughly N1100, N900 by a rock)from where the true second turn-in mob does pop. So, reading the quest info here (which says that first turn-in causes second spawn and says that the loc is approximate), I assumed that was my girl and tried to hand her the Emblem and she said "I have no use for this item Margurita, you may have it back" (thank goodness or I would have been starting from scratch). So, if you do first turn-in and head over to the beach area for second and see an erudite spirit and think "yay!, she's right there", if she's standing by some rocks instead of next to a wrecked boat, think again, and start killin skelles.
RE: Corrections
# Apr 09 2003 at 12:10 AM Rating: Excellent
umm it actually says Alina's Emblem, then later refers to it as alina's ring and no where in the write up does it say turning in the first emblem spawns the spirit and it specificly says [the female version of "an erudite spirit"]. these things you must have read in posts, the write up is actually very correct double check before you are so quick to burn. the male spirit is for a paladin quest, and i have seen both up at the same time so they are not PH's for each other, there is no reason to kill him unless you are just evil at heart =)
Emblem Drops
# Mar 26 2003 at 2:09 AM Rating: Default
Camped the "Donolak" for about fifteen minutes and got emblem to drop twice, once off of a harbor fisherman (troll), and one off of a cannoneer (human). I hope this helps any looking for the emblem.
Had no trouble getting the emblem
# Mar 16 2003 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
Cleared one of the boats three times and got the emblem on the third clearing. Also got a diamond, two star rubies, and a sapphire, as well as a bunch of vendor trash weapons.

Couldn't have taken longer than 45 minutes to get the emblem. Might have been luck getting it so fast but it seems pretty easy to get.
DeepWater Emblem and Erudite Spirit
# Mar 13 2003 at 11:39 AM Rating: Default
I have completed this quest a couple times and here is some helpful information, I hope.

The Emblem drops fairly regularly, though not common by any means, on any of the ships in Dulak Harbor. As stated in previous posts, under this one, the easier boats are to the far right of the docks.

The Erudite (Female) Spirit spawns at approximately Neg 840 by Neg 670 in the Gulf zone and has a Savage Skeleton Sailor (Sometimes Vicious Skeleton Sailor) who spawns every 20 mins on the same spot as the Spirit. There is a boat at these coordinates (on the East side of the beach) and both the Skellies and Spirit spawn along side the boat. The Skellies may or may not be place holders (can't seem to get a pattern to develop out of killing them and her to spawn) but this is the location. Also it seems that only one (either the male or female) will spawn and never both at the same time. So if one is up you either have to kill it or get someone to turn in, or the other will not spawn.

The male Spirit has his skellie PH (or not, again no pattern yet)against the East wall directly across from the female.

Hope this helps

Ok, I tried the beach soooo many times with no luck. Finally 3 of us went to a ship. As you go into Dulak Ran up the center with Camo, (Hubby is a ranger) When you see ships in front of you go right to last ship is the lowest in levels and start killin. Once you get the Deep Water Emblem you have to take back to eruidin near the Light house he tells you to search out her ghost . So back to beach thinking the ghost to the rhight is the is not. Ok, Look Around Hummm another ghost appears behind near one of the wrecked ships. Take a chance approach the ghost and give ring....BINGO Get the spell and did not die.....Not Spell requires Peridot to work. Bummer. And will not work with other spells.

Its okay that it will not stack with other spells, it is better than all 3 of the other 44 cleric spells combined and it cost 25 less mana to cast. A 10pp peridot is a small price to pay for such a sweet spell!

Another item of note is the spell duration. Symbol of Naltron only lasts 54 minutes, Marzin only 63, but this lasts 100 minutes, so overall this spell will be cheaper (your peridot lasts almost twice as long at 44-53).

This spell is handy for buffing anyone that's too low level for Aegolism or Virtue to be cast on them. So even a level 65 cleric would find it handier than casting 3 spells on a player. That's why the max level is 65, I plan to eventually do this quest for quicker buffing of lower level guildies and my cleric is currently level 62.

Spawning the Ghost
# Mar 08 2003 at 9:18 AM Rating: Decent
I read a post from casters realm and tested it for myself. The placeholder for the ghost is a skeleton at that location above. I was having no luck spawning her but there is a sunken boat at loc negative 22, negative 520. Inside there is a single undead mob that will pop keep it dead and the ghost genereally spawns faster.

I did the same thing and it worked very well. I was with a group of four friends. 2 stayed at erudite spawn spot and the other 2 went to the sunken boat. Just made sure everything was dead and in no time she popped. Did the turn in and had some happy people.

We were camping for our cleric buddy's spell drops last night and the Deepwater Emblem dropped twice off of random Dirulia crew members in a half hour of swabbing the deck of the ship with its crew's blood.

Considering the post below I would speculate that it will randomly drop off of any of the crew members of the boats in the harbor.

Just some notes on the mobs we encountered:
- Everything on the Dirulia was blue to my 53 mage but nothing seemed tough on the boat.
- No casters that we encountered, all melee.
- Low aggro radii
- Average hp for their level.
- No big resists. Fire wasn't resisted much at all, although several resisted my Malosi spell (not unusual, not hard to resist)
- Didn't notice how hard they hit, sorry, it wasn't out of the ordinary or I would have.
- Pretty decent xp.

The boats appear to be soloable for classes that can if you don't require kiting room. I plan on going back there to solo soon.

I solo the Stormwave in Dulak and the Deepwater Emblem is a rare drop off any Stormwave crew. Dont know if it drops on any other ships, but it definatly drops on this one.
