After completing the quest for the 44th spell Primal Remedy, you get this text from Vera:

Vera says 'Thank goodness my sister is feeling better. While you were gone, I was able to figure out the exact healing power of the flicker liquid. I have transcribed it on this piece of parchment. Here, memorize this and may it serve you well. Now, if I can just figure out what sustains the lava elementals of Broken Skull. If you are up to it, I could use some [more assistance].'

You say, 'I will give you more assistance.'

Vera says 'Thank you. Apparently, from rumors I have heard here in the lighthouse, the luggalds use some form of serum to harness the minds of the pirates and make them into slaves. Not only do they control the slaves, but they have also found a way to make them stronger. I suspect if you could get me some of the substance that the luggalds use to stoke the flames of strength in their slaves, I could find a way to transform it into a form we could use on the elementals of our craft. Are you willing to take a chance and make a [dangerous journey]?'

You say, 'I will make a dangerous journey.'

Vera says 'Then journey deep into the mines of Torgiran and look for an elemental power on luggalds in the mines. Bring me three of the elements they use. I suspect they harness its power from the giant seam of lava splitting the mines.'

Go to the Torgiran Mines and camp the luggald behind the secret door near location +1750, -650. "Strength of Lava" drops once in every three or four kills. These are the "elements" Vera spoke of. Go back to her and hand them in.

Vera takes the components from you and again puts them in her brazier. She begins a chant and raises her arms towards the sky. As she chants, the elements in the brazier light up brightly and begin to fragment. As they drift skyward they form into patterns of archaic runes. Vera's chant forces the runes into a pattern. The pattern is burned into your vision, even when you close your eyes. Knowing that the runes will fade, you quickly pluck up a pen and parchment to jot the runes down. Vera's chant fades and the night grows dark again. She looks over your parchment and says, 'Let me translate that into something useful for you.'

You gain experience!!

At this point Vera gives you a no drop parchment called "Scribbed Runes" [sic]. Give it back to her.

Vera makes a copy of your parchment, adding some extra symbols at the end. 'See, I told you it would be useless to you until I translated it. I shall journey home, now, and place this new scroll within the libraries of Solusek. I thank you for your help and wish you hearty adventures.'

In return, you receive the spell Elemental Empathy.

Spent time today trying to get the drop. The mob that pops behind the one day door (accessible by an underwater tunnel) is not the answer. It's no different than any other luggald. So I ran the circuit from the 3 rooms that have 3 luggalds each at one end, to the one way door mob, then continuing to the opposite side of the area to the other underwater tunnel that takes you to two small rooms with 2-3 luggalds and the big cavern that has about 4 of them. Cleared this circuit 4 times; no drop yet.

I don't believe there's a secret to it; just kill luggads until you get it. On the plus side I was getting a bit over 1 pt of AA xp per luggald, which are light blue to my 65 mage.
DROP RATE

THE DROP RATE SUCKS on the Strength of Lava item. killed every luggald in zone at least 6-7 times over and only found one drop and that was the second luggald. Fix this drop rate to ULTRA RARE!!!!

The luggald by the down stairway dropped two back to back, the third came from the same two luggalds in the small room on the way to the Overseer. It was not too bad if you stuck to those three mobs and surrounding exp mobs.
Twice in a row

After killing the luggald behind the secret door, in the pond room and in the Water Spirit pool room room (see locations on these here http://www.eqatlas.com/ykesha/torgiransminesmap.html ), despairing that I did not get a single drop, I decided to go exploring and find other spawnpoints to camp. The luggald by the staircase at 1299.43, -967,10 dropped one twice in a row, and the third one finally dropped off the luggald behind the secret door.

The many rooms full of luggalds seems to just exist to mess with your head =)It's a harsh quest; good luck to all seeking to finish it.

My 2 cents...

This quest is really ugly. I mean, ok, its all xp. But come on.. I have been at this for over 2 days and I am still minus one lava. IMHO, way to small of a % to drop. Thanks.. love sitting in here in this gloomy place.

Best of luck...

After 5 hours of killing every luggald in the zone on a repeated cycle (20 or so luggalds, not counting the overlord room) i finally got 1 to drop... Going for my last 2 now I guess...
Loot tables

I think the reason why the drop rate is so bad is; they are using a common mob with a wide loot table instead of a named mob with a ph with a short loot table.

I have been camping the mob for 4 weeks now 4 hours a day and only 1 dropped. This is worse than most epic item drop rates.
Sony needs to work on the drop rate

Within the first 10 min, I had two drop from the luggalds in the passageway to the throne room. For the next 6 hours, my 72 cleric was clearing the luggald in the secret room, the two luggalds in the passage way, and all the mobs in the throne room. My mage went from 49 to 54 and I still need the third drop.

I just finished this quest and thought I'd post my results. It took four different sessions.
Session 1: 12 kills, one Strength of Lava from fourth NPC (Abomination)
Session 2: 7 kills, no drops
Session 3: 6 kills, one drop from second NPC (Abomination)
Session 4: 4 kills, one drop from fourth NPC (Abomination)
All kills were in the room with the one-way door. Spawns included Reavers, Occultists, Arcanists, and Abominations.

pos 1478 neg 1100 neg 108 from luggald reaver.

I camped the hidden room with the pool for hours on and off, and never saw one.
Camped the room with the little pool in it too, but finally got one from the 2 mobs near the overlord as mentioned here. 2 more to go.

Found the secret room and camped it. Not too difficult for a 53 Wizard with non-tweaked outfit on and elemental pet with full armor and 2 weapons. Spawn time appears to be about 25 minutes (based upon casting spells lasting 15 to 20 minutes each). 5 appearances of it and no item yet!
Awful drop rate

12 solid hours camping, killing the 1 behind the hidden door, 2 in overseer tunnel, the 6 in the 2 rooms near the tunnel and the 1 outside, not 1 Strength of Lava. The drop rate for this is beyond awful.

The long hallway leading down to the Overlord room has a section where 2 abominations spawn. My hubby got his drops there in about 3 hours one night. Hope this helps out a bit.

I tried that single Luggald in the pool room with the one way fake wall, but in about 20 kills I couldnt get the Strenth of Lava to drop. While camping the pool room I explored alot of that part of the zone and never saw any luggald's dropping it untill I headed over the the Overloard's room.(check eqatlas map) On the ramp down to that big room are two luggalds it was from these two mobs that I got all 3 of my drops. I killed the pair maybe 6 times to get 3 drops.

The lugglad at loc p1290, n967 dropped the strength of lava for me, all 3 times. I ended up killing all the luggalds around it, but that particular one was the one who dropped it. Once twice in a row...I got my drops. Woot!

Near the Overlord's room there is a small widening area of the ramp, kinda like a small room, with two Luggalds. Forget the room with the pool and that one way door. I killed that single mob about 20 times with no luck. In that small room on the ramp down to the Overlord I got all my drops. Two from the one on the South and one from the one on the North side. Took me about 8 kills on each side so 16 total to get the Strenth of Lava. At first while I was waiting for respawns I explored mose of that side of the zone killing all the luggalds several times over, this was the only place I saw that dropped them at all.

The Luggald Abomination seems to spawn behind the secret door on a 23-minute cycle. After four kills he dropped the Strength of Lava.

I havne't seen it mentioned anywhere, but the strength of lava can be multiquested.

Thank goodness because it took me 6+ hours to get 2 of the stones. A SK was in zone and he said he had looted one and we did the MQ today on 9/7/04 with no problems.

At a minimum, the mage would need to have one strength, and be the last person to turn them in to Vera.
Still very low drop rate

I have been AA-ing in Torgiran for 3 weeks or so, keeping an eye out for the Strength of Lava drops for a mage friend. Would estimate killing the luggald behind the secret wall 30 times with no drops for the mage spell. The one drop I did get came off an Abomination in the small room with the pool off the east side of the corridor that runs north toward the secret wall room area.

I agree that the str of lava will drop off any luggald, abomination, reaver or occultist, as posted earlier. This drop came after killing 50-some luggalds.

Aug. 27th update = 2 str of lava off 250 kills total. No drops off guy behind secret wall after 70-some kills there. This is an insanely difficult quest for a spell that, while useful, is not critically necessary.

Sept. 1 update = 3rd str of lava after 800 kills, all in the pool room. None of my drops came from the guy behind the secret wall at loc pos 1750, neg 650. Pool room loc is pos 1450, neg 750. 5 spawns in pool room pull in pairs, except the one on the extreme left, who can be single-pulled.

When you pull left-side mob out of pool room you will get a 'surprise pop' Bloodguard who will spawn on top of you, whether you pull to hallway or stay in pool room cave. I was duoing with a 65 DRU and 65 BL, so I used DRU root on the surprise pop.

You can also use root to break the paired spawns in the pool room: root the melee mob, pull and kill the caster type, then go get the rooted guy and kill him too. This will spread out the spawns so you dont have to re-break the room. I never got the 'surprise pop' Bloodguard on any of the paired spawn pulls from the pool room.

All mobs in pool room are luggalds: Arcanist = wizard, Occultist = necro (no pet), Reaver = SK (no pet, but 761 pt HT) and Abomination = warrior. Casters 8-9k HP; melee 10-12k HP.

Secret wall luggald can be any one of these 4 types. He can be pulled from behind his wall by sitting in front of loc given, which will aggro him into the open. You can avoid Bloodguards except for the 'surprise pop' mentioned here, unless you want to pull the secret wall luggald too. If you do, you have to deal with two wandering Bloodguards, one pops at the south side of the Defender room (loc pos 1700, neg 500) and one pops just east of the secret wall in the corridor.

Getting there: None of the Bloodguard or Bruiser trolls see invis, and the luggalds don't seem to see invis either. Just invis up and head in from Nadox zone, or from Dulak zone. I have come in both ways.

I assume the same luggalds in the water room cave (loc pos 1600, zero) and associated tunnels can drop Strength of Lava too (but I did not verify this - only killed one round of spawns in there), but I found the swimming in and out to be a pain in the ***** There are vertical shafts you have to get out of; with the recent altered collision geometry this can be very difficult.

I've been camping the zone for the past 3 nights for 2 hours a night and to my knowledge str lavas droped off of the following for me...:

1st - A Luggald Abomination
2nd - A Luggald Reaver
3rd - A Luggald Occultist
No more XP?

I was doing some hunting in Torgiran and got 3 Strength of Lava's. I remember from doing this quest before that I got 10-15% AA. Did the turnin and did not get any xp. Not sure if this was changed or due to me already having the spell/done the quest.

Also, the drop rate does not seem as good as before. First time I collected 3 Strength of Lava's it took maybe 10 kills. This time it took a good 30 kills. (I was only killing the Luggald behind the hidden wall with the picture).
It adds up

My two cents
Level 52 Elemental Empathy *300 mana*, *duration 90 minutes*.
Affect on pet, str 60, inc speed 60, inc ac 18
Affect on caster, +73-280 hp L70, +13-31 ac L60, 10-30 MR.

This spell replaces two spells. Burn out 4, 150 mana, duration 15 minutes & Shield of the magi, *300 mana*, *duration 90 minutes*.

Since Elemental Empathy & Shield of the magi both use 300 mana, & have the same duration, lets say they cancil each other out. That leaves burn out 4 at a duration of 15 minutes at 150 mana. 90/15=6, 6X150=900mana.You save 900 mana every 90 minutes.

If your a Magician level 52 to 60, grab my two cents & a few friends who are looking for some nice spells & go check out those Ykesha Zones.
I think you will get a good exchange rate.

Update, these dont drop every three or four kills. When you go to do this camp dont bring a tent. Bring an RV. Also, I killed Lugalds in every spot that Lugalds spawn & I got all three at the secret door/trap.
