You say, 'Hail, Faerik Windrunner' (NPC by the PoD lift in Kelethin).

Faerik Windrunner says 'Hello. I am afraid I do not have time for small talk I have a very important job to do here and unless you are [interested in helping] me please leave me alone.'

You say, 'I am interested in helping you'

Faerik Windrunner says 'I didn't think I could get anyone to assist me with this, and you don't look like much but any help is good help. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Faerik Windrunner of the Emerald Warriors. I have been tasked with finding a party that is [willing to assist] us in investigating the disappearance of one of our own at sea.'

You say, 'I am willing to assist'

Faerik Windrunner says 'I am very happy to hear this Fynder. I shall tell you what I know about this delicate situation. Gandak Whisperwind is one of the finest Emerald Warriors this town has ever seen. His weapon mastery skills are unmatched by anyone. Recently, his wife fell ill and there was a need for an antidote component that is grown by a well respected [farmer in the karanas]. Only if we receive these herbs from our friend in the karanas will Gandaks wife live.'

You say, 'Who is the farmer in the karanas'

Faerik Windrunner says 'The farmer that I speak of is Tarnic McWillows, he runs a farm in the karanas that grows the herbs that we need for Lady Jernca`s medicine. So with that known we sent out 3 of our finest rangers and druids to obtain this herb and bring back the medicine but for the sake of if anything happened Gandak insisted to go along for the [ill-faded trip] because he loves his wife so very much.'

You say, 'What ill-faded trip?'

Faerik Windrunner says 'Well it would seem that something went terribly wrong not long after they set out on their journey to the karanas. We know this for sure because sadly we found their boat that washed up on shore with all of the bodies of the original party on board, except for Gandak's. So with this knowledge it is that we hope and believe somehow Gandak is still alive and is either making his way to the Karanas or is just somewhere that we cannot find him yet. We have heard of a group of Pirates originating from a [fortress in the sea] that might be responsible.'

You say, 'What fortress in the sea?'

Faerik Windrunner says 'There are many talks of a fierce and deadly troll pirate clan that calls themselves Broken Skull. They are claiming responsibility for many of these sea hijackings and I believe that if Gandak is alive he might be there. If you wish to travel to attempt to gain knowledge about his disappearance seek out the mystical boat that docks in the Stonebrunt Mountains. If you should find Gandak please give him this medallion that he will know has come from us.'

Find Gandak Whisperwind in Torgiran Mines (random spawn in mines) and hand him the medallion.

He'll tell you to retrieve four insignias, all found in Dulak's Harbor:

Insignia of Hatred: Drops from Emissary of Hate
Insignia of Slaying: Drops from Emissary of Suffering
Insignia of Suffering: Drops from a Windscorn Buccaneer
Insignia of the Blackblood: Drops from a Broken Skull Guardian (possibly other trolls)

Return to Gandak and hand him the four insignias to receive an elven medicine bag.

Find Tarnic McWillows in West Karana (-2270, -5540)
and give him the elven medicine bag to receive an Antidote of the Wind.

Return to Faerik in Greater Faydark and give him the antidote to get your charm reward.

Spawns and Drop Rate

I like doing quests like these, especially ones that are out of date and in fun zones for lower levels (I also torture myself with unsolved quests) lol. This is the second time I have done this quest (both on Bards and had to faction up afterwards).

a Broken Skull Dock guardian (Troll)
The lowest level and easiest mobs to kill are "a Broken Skull Dock guardian," however, this time around I realized that they are rarer to see because they actually have two placeholders, and they are the only 3 mobs that will roam around the Tavern and Fish house. The others static spawns that are in place (even Trolls) are not placeholders. If you get stuck not seeing any Broken Skull Dock guardian's spawning, the placeholders are likely roaming around. The placeholders are:
1. "a dock guardian" (Iksar PH)
2. "a dock patrolman" (Ogre PH)
There are also 2 "a Broken Skull Dock guardian" mobs that spawn elsewhere. One is inside the warehouse roaming underneath the ladder platform, and the other is outside of the warehouse east roaming toward the ship. Both can be a placeholder spawn as well.

a Windscorn Buccaneer (Iksar)
All static spawns on the northern most ship, with another static spawn on the dock leading to the ship itself. They are all Iksars, and the highest was level 50. This can be hard to manage simply because of the higher level and the additional mobs around that can add.

an emissary of hate (Luggald)
Very prevalent in the caves through the invisible tunnel entrance and continuing straight over the bridge. They are lower level in the 40's; the highest I saw was level 46.

an emissary of suffering (Luggald)
These are also in the caves, but there are only 5 static static spawn points, with 1 obvious roamer you will always see frequently with the others. The first 4 and the 1 obvious roamer are when you take the right turn in the middle of the bridge (the only turn). You will see them quickly at the top of a staircase that leads down to other emissary-type mobs. After the initial 5 that are obvious encounters, there is 1 more. There are 2 rectangular rooms below the staircase, the second of which has a pool of water in the middle of it. The final emissary of suffering is a static spawn in the middle of the pool, but you will need to pull him out of the water to kill him. Otherwise you can stay away from him and stick to the 4 and the 1 roamer back at the stairs.

I hope this helps,
Cheers!

Yes, with a good use of Superior Camoflauge to get to the mobs in question.

I just finished getting this charm solo, but it took me three months to do so...

Camped Emissaries for several hours with no Insignias dropped!!!

Did they nerf the drop on these?
3 Hour Quest for me
# Aug 22 2004 at 4:11 AM Rating: Decent
Did this today in just over 3 hours, although I know I got pretty lucky. 62 Ranger (me) and 65 Chanter had no problems with any of the mobs. Took about an hour to get the Emissary's drops (and got a Soulstripper for Chanty's Cleric alt). 2 hours on the Windscorn (would have been a long camp solo). First Broken Skull Guardian dropped the insignia for me, and Gandak was up when i zoned into Torigan so I just invised to him for hand in.
All in all, very worthwhile for a Ranger who isn't flagged for anything yet.
I would recommend you bring a friend to help pass the time and to speed up the kills, although it could be soloed.
Good luck to all who are in search of this item :)

Any idea if this charm is one of the ones they took the No Drop tag off of? Just curious if I have to MQ it, or if I can do it solo and put in my shared bank =)

Is there a similar quest, one for people that are KOS in GFay? Or is the quest-giver faction-free? I see he's near the PoD lift, & I don't want to get anywhere near those guards. MTIA!

Since the charm stats increase when you get better faction to GFay guards, maybe its better to try get faction before get charm

63 Pally, did the quest solo in about 4 hours. 2 Hours in caves for hatred and slaying, did ooc looking for black blood while hunting,, someone called out within 15 minutes. Invised to Winscorn, up to single Buccaneer at top, killed and he dropped the suffering. Longest time was spent running to various NPCs.

Suffice to say - this is not the usual experience with the Windscorn. That drop is very very rare.

Hi, can anybody tell me why I can't get access to Dulak Harbor? I've got the LoY expansion, and I've talked to the guy that owns the ship. Nothing works... been trying to get a GM and reported bug, but I'm not getting results.

Help and thanks!!

Make sure you do the advanced download to get all the extra parts for this expansion, I clicked on the door of the boat for 10 mins and a GM told me to do this after I bugged it, and it worked right away.

Hope this helps.

am i stupid or something? i was at the coordinates (shows "cleet: brewer" on the default map) and this guy was not only not there, he wouldnt show up during the whole time i was there (hours).

what do i have to do to get this moron who should already be there to pop? the damn quest is hard enough, nevermind having to wait in some deserted zone for some stupid *** npc!

i even tried going to gfay, getting the medallion, running to torg, turning it in, and running back to check the spawn. you know who was waiting for me? CLEET! *#@&$

Windscorn Drop

20 posts
I spent about 8-10 hours on Windscorn as a 62 Ranger with a 57 Cleric friend. During that time, about 6 Windscorn insignias dropped from the buccaneers I pulled. 3 Insignia of Suffering dropped as well. I noticed that all 3 times, the Insignia of Suffering always dropped from the male buccaneer that spawned just aft of the mast of the ship on the main deck almost across from the gangway (not the upper aft deck). It's worth mentioning that the xp and loot were pretty decent at 62, and every mob that popped during this time was dark blue to me.

Not sure if anyone posted this info here already, but it may be of interest to some..
Having explored extensively I am pleased to find that not one mob in Dulak seems able to see through invis.. and there seem to be NO caster mobs in the whole zone! Agro range is an odd matter, however, with many roaming mobs far less likely to agro than static ones when you get close.
I hope this helps anyone trying to find the mobs for this and any other quests involving Dulak.

On the last boat , windscorn I believe it is, there are Windscorn Templars and Windscorn Revenats

Templar nukes for about 500 Revenant does the usual sk thing
Yes, this IS MQ-able
# May 06 2003 at 4:38 PM Rating: Decent
MQ'd this last weekend so I know it can be. And for those of you fussing, it's simple. Do it or don't. Me, I get pretty decent AA from this so I'm doing it for the 3rd time with another ranger friend. Two of my ranger companions have gotten this so far and I have just the insignia of blackblood left for a third one.

The drops seem pretty random. The tunnel just before the waterfall room seems to be most often where you will find the insignia of hate. Never gotten one from IN that room though. I've seen 3 drop in 20 minutes...and none drop in 3 hours while camping in the tunnels leading to that room.

Likewise, the insignia of suffering I've seen drop twice in an hour and none in 3 hours. /shrug. I look at it this way: I have fun with my friends (this IS a game and sposed to be fun, dammit), get a little AA and if the drops happen, it's a bonus.
Lucky Ranger
# May 06 2003 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
took maybe 4 -6 hours camping the Emmisary's of suffering (2nd cave)

1 hour camping the emmisarys of hate (tunnel to 3rd cave)

about 6-8 hours camping the windscorns.

about 8-10 hours camping the Broken skull Guardians ( ran the whole zone chasing everyone that spawned)

COULD NOT find Gandek.... he was charmed and being used as a pet. the peeps that were using him - helped me get to him to do turn in.

Took about 4-5 hours to get max faction to emerald warriors. hadn't really hunted in crush much at all with Serano.

maxed ally made the Medalion 3 ac 8 dex( I think) and 15 hit points and Poisen resist.
Drop rate is too low in my opinion!
# May 04 2003 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
My thoughts on this quest. I have just about 20 hours camping these green mobs and I still only have 2 insignia. I am a 65 ranger with decent gear and 70+aa's so killing these greens is not too time consuming, except for the buccaneers which hit a little too hard and have plenty of hps for a greenie. Spent about 4 hours camping emissary's and got both drops there only to be disconnected about 10 min after the Slaying one dropped. When I could relog back on later in the day my character had been rolled back 15 min due to the unanounced patch and of course the insigina was gone, /petition yeilded basically the thats too bad response. So, recamp that insignia for a hour+ to get one and now Woot only 2 left to go.
I then proceeded to kill with an fellow ranger or my self, well over 100 buccaneers with no drop. Finally a insignia drops while I am there soloing. I quickly loot it and move to killing the Broken skull guardians. There are 4 that spawn around the docks and all wander. I have killed about 50 of them and numerous other armory guardians and other trolls with no Blackblood drop. Then, while sitting waiting for a guardian to spawn I am looking at my insignia and I see the one I looted from the Winscorn buccaneer is called a Windscorn Insignia and not the Insignia of suffering that I need. Bah, now its back to camping more Buccaneers for the right one.
This quest is a royal pain and is starting to feel more like a death march that anything else to me.
Sony is wrong if they think this is how I want to spend my time gaming just to fill my charm slot.

Edit: Well just to be fair I went back and camped the Windscorn again and killed 40+ buccaneers had 3 Windscorn insignia dropped but no Insignia of Suffering. I could have almost gotten the aa points and bought the stats for this charm in the time I have wasted trying to get this charm. LOL Good luck to those who go after this charm. I am going to find something better to do, like get a beer and watch tv instead.

Anyone ever consider /feedback and /bug when this or anything like this happens... i.e. long hunts for what seems items that do not exist?

DO IT! Bxtch and complain to Verant and write feedbacks or bugs

I have been for long time when I find things like this, ...believe it or not
the game does get hosed and broken. what may work in test, won't later due to patches hosing stuff up.

Hours of frustration
# May 01 2003 at 2:15 AM Rating: Decent
To summarize: this quest takes a lot more time than "several hours." I spent about 2 1/2 hours alone camping the Windscorn bucanneers with zero insignia drops. Was using 65 warrior and 61 druid. I gave up on the quest after that.

Unless you get xp in Dulak harbor, I would not recommend this quest. The AAs you could gain from xp'ing for the hours and hours it takes to do this are going to be much more benficial than an 8 dex 15 hp item.

If you absolutely must fill that charm slot, I would only recommend this if you have absolutely nothing better to do, and prepare to be frustrated.

i got the insigna of slaying off a mob called phantamist of malevolence or something like that , spawns in the same room as the other are describing, same area as the emisary's of suffering are anyway

Insignia madness
# Apr 12 2003 at 11:26 AM Rating: Default
Be aware!

I spent my day off (well 6 hours of it) doing this quest witha friend. I got all 4 drops off the mobs listed. I truned in:

Insignia of Hatred
An Insignia of Slaying
An Insignia of Suffering
An Insignia of the Blackblood

Here is the exact text:

[Mon Apr 07 16:55:59 2003] Gandak Whisperwind says 'What is this? You are sent by the Emerald Warriors? I don't believe what I am hearing, I thought I would die out here. You must help me Denrick, my wife is very sick and she needs an antidote from a farmer in the Karanas that I was traveling to see. I may not be able to be saved, but I want my wife to live. If you will kill these ruthless creatures that are responsible for me being here I will allow you to take the medicine bag to Tarnic. Return to me with an insignia of hatred, slaying, suffering and the blackblood.'

to Gandak Whisperwind and he ate them. Smiley: yikes I did a petition thinking it was a bug. When a GM got to me the next day we went back and forth about the quest but he informed me I turned in the wrong items. I was really confused at this point with the quest being confirmed and all. The thing I learned was you have to be super careful. Looting the Winscorn Insignia by mistake and turning it in insted of "an insignia of suffering" will cause to eat your insignias.

I currently have both Hatred and Blackblood. Mine in fact have the same Blue Card Icon. I also have slaying but it has a different black Icon. The insignias are both "An insigina" as opposed to your "Insignia". Still doing the quest and need suffering. Can anyone else comment on whether there are two diffenent types of insignias and which ones are the correct ones?

Thanks

Okay.... what's the deal with the spawn on this guy? From what I'm gathering, every miner in the fricken zone can be his PH. I'm up to my elbows in dead half elves, dark elves, halflings, and gnomes.. and not a wood elf npc in sight. Any suggestions? :)

I've been fighting in the mines quite a bit this last week. Everytime he's been right at the zone in from Dulak. I've not seen him elsewhere. Now this doesn't mean he is always up by any means, I'm not sure to that aspect. This is just my observation so far.

Try looking for him there at that zone in and see if you you can find him. Good luck on your quest :)

(If you zone in from Nadox and have a druid or wizard, succor and it will take you to where I usually see him at the dulak zone line)

Thoughts about charms
# Mar 30 2003 at 2:14 AM Rating: Default
Lots of people are ******** that charms suck, and others are responding, well, they're better than nothing, it's a free slot.

I disagree. I paid 20 bucks for that slot.

When LoY was advertised they said there would be a new, really cool item slot. That, and only that, made LoY a "must buy" for me. I naturally assumed the new slot was going to be on par with other slots.

Instead, we get "charms" that are of marginal value, certainly nowhere near any other equipment slot...and that, only if some screwball requirement is met. Many of these requirements are too much of a penalty to warrant coming anywhere close to maxing out the charm. and even at max...they really do suck compared to stuff you can put in any other slot.

I want my money back.
Or I want a whole line of charms that are comparable to items that are available for some other slot; say, fingers, or neck. Same risk, same reward, new slot.

DON'T tell me it's in the content of the next expansion that I have to pay for.

DON'T tell me well, we would, but it would unbalance the game. Shoulda thought of that before you sold it to us. All the other stuff we've been sold has just as much un-balancing potential but the game has survived. Remember when SSOY's were uber?

I'm not looking for another chest-armor slot but I feel like I've been screwed. Again.

Quote:

& that, my friend, is exactly where your problem lies: you paid 20 bucks for the equipment slot. No wonder you're so grievously disappointed! :)

I paid 20 bucks for the equipment slot, 4 very cool new zones, the ability to play Frogloks, the shared bank slot, 8 more bank slots, armor dyes, & cartography. There might even be more stuff there I'm forgetting, but there it is.

Besides, I got the LoY expansion when I came BACK to Everquest, via EQ: Evolution, so I didn't even pay 20 bucks for it ... instead, I paid 30 bucks for the old school EQ, & all the expansions up to LoY. I think that was a pretty good deal :) When you add in the number of hours I've spent leveling in Dulak, I'd say I've gotten much more than my money back, in terms of entertainment value.

Granted, most of the charms I've seen have been pretty blah, with screwy requirements & so on, but if you think LoY was ONLY about the charm slot items ... well ... it's your problem, not mine :)

& yes, I know the post to which I'm replying is over a year old, but I simply couldn't resist a reply. & so is born Message Board clutter :) As for this particular quest: the stats for the fully-powered charm are decent, for those without a maxed out Intricate Wooden Figurine, & it's not too hard to get maxed-out faction with the Emerald Warriors -- certainly easier than some of the other charms, which are MUCH screwier. So this isn't a bad item. But I do think that when I get into the levels necessary to actually do Windscorn, I'd much rather be concentrating on PoP flags to max out my Figurine.

But maybe that's just me.
RE: Thoughts about charms

I gotta agree with the poster on this LOY was a very dissapointing expansion..Heck the interface upgrades and maps should have been GIVEN to the community...It is really sad today when there are people out there that still can't use the map, but have PoP. SOE is soaking up the money and can't even provide interface updates, not new features but things that should have been there in the first place to paying customers.....

insignia of Hatred is a pain - rare drop
got it by killing the Emissary of Hate straight up from the bridge and the ones (1 roamer 1 static) before the stairs going to the waterfall in the tunnels. got one in 1 week.

The insignia of suffering dropped from the room with water in it. seems more common drop.
few torn luggald robes too. Drops from Emmisary of Suffering. got one in 3 hours.

Insignia of the Blackblood: Drops from a Broken Skull Guardian. easy and not rare from guardians roaming on the docks. got one 1 1 hour.

Insignia of Suffering - i killed dozens of buccaneers without luck. they drop windscorn insignia too and iskar blood. some diamond and blue diamonds are more common from them than that insignia.

i was always solo when they dropped. easier to duo with a 55 shaman for windscorn boat. Innate camo was defenetly usefull.

i d like to know if an elven medicine bag is a container or not - just a matter of room in inventory :).

Insignia of Hatred
# Mar 26 2003 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
Emissarires of Hatred are spread out all over the caves and I have had no luck in getting my last drop (Insignia of Hatred) killing in multiple places.

I usually hang out in the area that is the right branch off of the bridge. There are two rooms down there with 5 emissaries of hate that spawn.

I have also been killing the Emis of Hate straight up from the bridge and down the first right. Still no drops.

Right now I have killed over 100 and have not gotten a drop.

Any help on where your Insignia of Hatred dropped would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Aye, I too camped that room for a couple of days. The insignia of suffering dropped atleast 20 times, then finally an insignia of hate. I got my drop off the spawn in the room with water in it. Took me over 4 hours of solid camping, but it finally dropped. But gah.. still no luck on the insignia of the blackblood. This quest is making me mad.. prolly worth less than my efforts. Its one of those "I am not gonna let this quest kick my ********** kind of thing now.

The emerald warrior faction isn't affected by killing critters in PoG. I clicked on the faction link and PoG was not listed as a zone where you can lower emerald warriors faction.

Is the NPC that initiates the quest on one of the PoG factions?

I had a friend who just turned int he insignias and the NPC ate them. So I think you at least need the faction, and if you have that, you might as well turn in the medallion and not take a chance.
