This begins in the tower of the library in the Plane of Knowledge.

You say, 'Hail, Aid Fimli'

Aid Fimli says 'Greetings Doremi! I wish I had time to chatter but my duties to the list and the Grand Librarian keep me extremely busy.'

You say, 'What duties?'

Aid Fimli says 'I am the aid for the Grand Librarian and he has me cataloging tomes on the master list. I spend so much time working on the list I haven't had time to go collect these items from the planes my uncle in Ak'Anon keeps pestering me over. He wants to upgrade his scrapyard back in Ak'Anon, and says only these items will do. Would you be willing to do me a favor?'

You say, 'I would be willing to do you a favor.'

Aid Fimli says 'Wonderful! If you would gather the following; a bundle of superconductive wires, silicorrosive grease, a gold tipped boar horn and a shard of pure energy, then take them to my uncle Sanfyrd in Ak'Anon. I would really appreciate being able to get back to my work uninterrupted.'

The first two drop from yard trash in the Plane of Innovation. Gold tipped boar horns drop in Drunder, Fortress of Zek (aka Plane of Tactics) off various boars. Shards of pure energy drop off lightning giants in the Bastion of Thunder.

In exchange for these items, Sanfyrd gives you a note to bring back to Aid Fimli.

Aid Fimli says 'Great! I see you got the items to uncle; perhaps he will stop badgering me now and let me be in my work. Hmmmmm, Uncle mentions in his letter that he worked out a way for a gnome to make a giant set of crab crackers. He states it is useless in Norrath but I may be able to make some use of it out here. I guess it wouldn't hurt to share it with you and file it away in the library. To create the cracker combine two metal rods, firewater and a knuckle joint in a toolbox. Interesting indeed, anyways here is your reward; I hope you can put it to good use.'

Is there a point of the quest?
# Dec 12 2003 at 3:49 AM Rating: Decent
So do they give you a pattern or something when you do the quest or can you just go get the rods, firewater, and knuckles and make the cloak?

He just gives you the cloak when you hand in the letter. The combine he speaks of is for some tinkering gadget, I believe...

After reading about using invis for turn-ins I decided to try this. Didn't work... (God I hate that gnome, even more than he hates me...)

Can a chanter be used for charming him?
Turn in with Charm
# Dec 02 2003 at 8:08 PM Rating: Decent
OK so after reading a lot on the turn in it seems that your GOD will have a big part in the faction....I am a HUm SK .....INNY

Wouldnt work with dorf or Gnome....now I think ill do what I did with the EYEPATCH of PLUNDER quest.....and Us a BARD to Charm him so I can do the turn in as a Dorf,,,,Gnome gave me KOS for some reason...so ya Dorf is the way I guess..

So dont waist you drops just yet..TRY Charming him first then do turn in when your not KOS.

I will come back on and let ya all know if it worked..

can this be MQ to a below 45 toon, ie a 46+ hands in the no drop, and an under 45 toon hands in other 3, for exp, then hands in note for cloak as well for exp. Has anyone tried this?
RE: MQ to lower lvl toon
# Jan 01 2004 at 2:41 PM Rating: Decent
Just have the 46+ toon do it themselves and give cloak to under 45 maybe? =)

I am a 53 DE SK that worships Innoruuk (if that makes a differance). I have done the planar travelers manual quest for faction in POK, but Aid Fimli will not give me the quest. 8( Any ideas why not or what I need to do to get it? I already have the 4 parts and would like to do the turn ins, sigh.

If you click on the link for the Bundle of Super Conductive Wires, you will notice that is says "no drop". This means you have to loot it yourself.
RE: plat?
# Jul 07 2004 at 12:42 PM Rating: Decent
There's more to the 'buy' and 'NODROP' answer, though - some NODROP items can be multi-quested, and some can't. Multi-questing is when the person turns it in, and another person then turns in the other items for the quest and receives the item.

When people have to combine items in a container, they can't be multi-quested.

Looks this this item can be multi-quested since there's no container.
Need any faction ?

Do you need any special faction to do the quest ???

My iksar shaman could do it without any faction adjusting ??

Where abouts in the Libary in PoK is he?
RE: Where is he?

He's on the top floor of the library. You have to take the elevator up. It's a small room you'll see him in the middle.
KOS can do this
# Oct 20 2003 at 5:44 AM Rating: Excellent
I'm an Erudite, Cazic-worshiping necro....

Advice #1: Get a gnome illusion potion.

If still kos...(I was kos to Sanfryd, but not to his dark blue at 65 buddy next to him)Smiley: banghead

Advice #2: Get a bard to charm him.

I was indifferent to Sanfryd's friend next to him with gnome illusion, but still threatening to Sanfryd. Bard charmed Sanfryd, I turned in the items, and got the letter to take to Aid Fimli. Grats new cloak. So basically anyone can do this. Good luck! Smiley: cool

KoS to Dwarf = Sucessful MQ
# Aug 24 2003 at 2:47 AM Rating: Good
had the Wires needed for the MQ and saw someone offering 1k for em so i said sure ( easiest 1k i will ever make) but i was kinda wrong hehe being a dark elf and all i was KoS there, but i decided to try something, buy an illusion dwarf potion ( yes DWARF not Gnome that is not a typo) so i went down next to this guy and drank the potion and this time he took it and the other guy got the cloak. we tried all kinds of things invis, faction buffs, the illusion was the only thing that worked, i read somewhere on here that illusions didnt work and i just wanted to confirm that ILLUSIONS DO INDEED WORK hope this helps =)

Whats with all the iksars, im about to do this with a 46 hum paladin. any one think this is possible or do i need to be a higher level??
RE: aid fimli
# Aug 20 2003 at 10:54 AM Rating: Decent
It's definately possible, but it would be hard. If you're not Tactics flagged, you'll have to buy the Horn. If you're not BoT flagged, you'll have to buy the Shard. I've bought 2 shards off vendors for 86pp, so that's definately something to watch for. I play in Tactics a lot and I've only gotten 3 of the Horns. I think they're the rarest part of the quest.

But at 46th you could possibly get a PoI group and get the Bundle of Superconductive Wires.

So while it is possible, I'd wait a few levels. In your spare time, check the bazaar or NPC vendors for a horn or shard. If you get those 2 items, your chances of doing the quest will go up dramatically.
illusion: dwarf boo
# Jul 07 2003 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
tried this with illusion dwarf, and Aid fimli was happy to comply but minute i tried to hand in in ak'anon he tried to attack which sucked. I'm dark elf necro. well guess wait for illusion gnome :(.

Well not sure how iksar did it, i just now tried illusion gnome and was still KOS to guy in ak'anon who happily ate all my components, sigh well there goes some serious cash :(. I dont know why my faction would be that bad I've never killed gnomes particularly... with exception of Echo Caverns gnome/halfing king people whatever they are which I'm guessing have some faction tie..

thought i read somewhere but not sure, i think due to a recent patch illusions no longer effect your faction 8( i guess since they gave project illusion to chanters no one really had to worry about faction any more would suggest finding a friend that has decent gnome faction to do the turn-ins, of course they will need the no drop wires, but can get them easily in PoI. illusions no longer work for me either, but i hear people say they help.... no idea why

RE: Illusions
# Oct 06 2003 at 6:05 PM Rating: Decent
RACIAL illusions (dwarf, gnome, etc) still work the same way they always have. They will change your faction to correspond with what npcs think of that particular race, although it may not be enough if they don't like your class or deity. Again, this is the way it's always been.

The change you're referring to was to the effect of NON-racial illusions, stuff like Elemental, werewolf, etc. Once upon a time, those illusions had strange effects on faction; most of these illusions would make you KOS to guards and such, but remove KOS status in odd places (werewolves were considered warmly to sarnaks; scarecrows were non-KOS in a LOT of places they shouldn't have been.)

As such, SoE changed it so that, if your illusion was not of a playable race, your faction would default to whatever your normal race's faction was. IE, a gnome in Earth Elemental illusion would still be considered a gnome by nearby NPCs.
RE: illusion: dwarf boo
# Jul 23 2003 at 10:57 AM Rating: Decent
Illusion DO still effect faction. You no longer get supplimental faction hits from illusions, but they do still work, just not quite as well.
RE: illusion: dwarf boo
# Jul 26 2003 at 12:44 PM Rating: Excellent
I am a dark elf wizzy and i used illusion barbarian and illusion high elf to do the first part of my epic w/o faction building, this was last week so illusions DO work still i handed the ring right to that high elf and she gave me the new one back and in halas when i did the turn in the guy respawned and everything so, maybe illusions just dont work for some things, i had my good friend Kellic ( 65 enchanter MT ) cast project illusion on me and everything was ok ( for the wizzy epic, i havent tried this quest yet as a DE)

[Edit]
last night i did this quest and illusion dwarf potion worked great, like the guy below said, if you have a religion that everyone hates ( Inny for example ) the NPCs get a strange vibe and automatically hate you even through illusions....my wizzy is Sol Ro hope this helps

Maybe it was religion, or was that part of the illusion change?
I always thought it was stupid having NPCs sense your "diety aura".

AID FIMLI
# Jun 30 2003 at 4:03 AM Rating: Excellent
Easy quest, I even did the turnins as iksar, but of course i had essence of gnome. If yor evil race and you want to do everything solo just do what I did.

Ok first of all people are saying you need 3 gnome potions for the quest, well 2 if actually what you need. One for the turnins and 1 for the cloak reward. To be on the safe side talk to the guy in the pok library first with the gnome illusion. Now grab a sow and hp buff or invis. Pok book over to steamfont mountains. Turn right and youll see the entrance to ak'kon. Save your potion, you dont really need. Now this is where your hp buff kicks in, if you run past and they agro youll be fine. I had virtue with 3.2k HP but they never agroed (slow gnomes :P) Or get invised. Ok now zone into the city and use your illusion. Press the backpace key or whatever you have bound for your map. If you dont have LoY then...head over to eqatlas.com and print up a map of akkon. Now on you map look at the ver top till you see a small lake. Run there, when you get there jump down. **Note theres two waterfalls, one being a small slew of falls near the diamond buidling. The other one is a straight plumet downard near some BIG clockwork spider. Youll see the guy on the left side. If you con him he should be dub to you..Its ok turn the stuff get your not and get your **** out before your illusion dies. I never took more than 5 min lookin for him but you wouldnt wanna die in a KOS city now would ya?:D
Make your way back to the zone out and get out.. Now here is the fun part if your a high lvl monk. Just sneak up to the guards (if your outta gnome potions and your a evil caster class with no HPs)click off then burn it towards the pok book. Youll here em shout DIE YOU VILE BEAST! pretty funny. Hope this helps!

PS. Use ur last potion now for the note turn in...DONT FALL OF THE LIFT! (had a friend get near the top and fall through, took 20k dmg)

Obviously no one reads signature's...

He's on Firiona Vie server. Most things that are no drop on most servers are droppable on FV, including the bundle of superconductive wires.

This is the most complicated game I've ever played. Fun but complicated. I don't care how long anybody plays this game, there is always something to learn about it (even if it has become a lifestyle for you). That's what these sites are for really. Everybody relax and enjoy. :-)

Well, the keys for VT and ST are no drop, as are a few pop keys(Valor/Storms, possibly more), also some GM tools (but not all).

Everyone wants to add their little flames without knowing anything.

Get around the faction crap
# Jun 13 2003 at 3:03 PM Rating: Default
thanks to the character transfer bank slots, working around the faction is simple. Create a gnome toon, and put the horn, shard and grease in the transfer box (in bkpack). log in gnome, run to bank and take the backpack of stuff out, and run the gnome to the turn in guy. Log back in on your main, run to akanon and then the turn in guy, turn in the wires, and log out. log back in gnome, turn in the other 3 items, and then turn the letter you get in to the guy in PoK library. The cloak isn't nodrop so you can just put it in the bank transfer slot to get it back on your main.
RE: Get around the faction crap
# Jul 08 2003 at 2:37 AM Rating: Decent
I think hes trying to say you can cut costs, by only using 1 illusion potion to MQ for your alt, who can do turn in without final potion.. Which would save ya 150 pp which is a nice bonus.
RE: Get around the faction crap
# Jun 13 2003 at 4:07 PM Rating: Default
how does that get around faction when you still have to turn in the wires yourself? if you have to turn in the wires, you might as well turn in everything else. and if you're kos, you can't turn the wires in regardless.
Wires are MQable
# Jun 10 2003 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
In case anyone else was curious, I had all the parts but the Wires. A friend of mine's DE Warrior had the Wires. I used Project Illusion to change him to a gnome, he was amiable with that from Dubious.

He turned in the wires, I turned in the other stuff and I got the cloak.
RE: Wires are MQable
# Jun 30 2003 at 5:38 AM Rating: Decent
I did exactly this on Saturday with an Iksar Monk who had the Wires using an "Essence of Human" potion, and I handed the other 3 (tradeable) components after he gave the wires in. Even in Human form he was KoS due to having killed a lot of Gnomes in Sol A, but was able to use Sneak to do the hand-in; Sneak on its' own did NOT work, the Illusion was REQUIRED.

Okay for someone who is not familiar with Ak'Anon in the least. How do I get to him from the zone line. I wandered the zone for about 30 minutes and couldn't find him.

Sanfyrd Featherhaead is located at pos 2020 neg 190 below water fall that is below watter wheel, just keep heading down stream til u get there.

RE: How to find Sanfyrd
# Jun 05 2003 at 4:39 PM Rating: Decent
I just did this yesterday, and spent about 45 minutes looking for him. Come into the zone and turn right at the split by the soulbinder and priest of discord. Follow the tunnel inside Ak'Anon.

If I remember correctly, you'll see a strange Pyramid type structure right near the water on the left. Follow the path left and you'll be in a room with a huge lake and a waterfall down on the far side. Jump off that waterfall and Sanfyrd is down there. If my directions are wrong, just look for the waterfall down, he's in a kinda hidden area.

RE: Evil Races
# Aug 31 2003 at 11:27 AM Rating: Default
I just attempted this quest today with my Iksar monk using an Essence of Dwarf (because there were no Gnome potions for sale in Baz). Without the illusion I was ready to kill to the outside guards and threatening to the mechs inside. With the potion I was indiff to the mechs and dubious to Sanfyrd himself. Due to what I read on this page about some people's failures, I was rather cautious about doing the turn-in and only gave him 1 of the items (the pure energy). He ate it with no comment. In my experience if you are able to complete a quest the NPC will usually say something about "This is nice but where are the rest of the items?" So I'm figuring I'll get another shard and try again WITH Sneak on to get to indiff. Will update then.
P.S. In Iksar form and at indiff Aid Fimli would NOT respond to the trigger phrases to initiate the quest.

*EDIT* I got my hands on a couple of gnome potions today and successfully completed this quest. Sanfyrd was still dubious to gnome form so I did use use Sneak to get to indiff. No problem with the hand-in there. Aid Fimli was still indiff with gnome illusion up but since you have to talk to him to get the quest Sneak was unavailable. Even though he was still the same con, this time he responded to the triggers and gave the full quest text. Turned in the note and got the cloak. Hope this helps someone. Good luck!

If you use either one of the circular ramp/stairs that lead up from the area where the portal stones are, you arrive at what I call the Ground Level of the Library. If you enter the library at this level, there are levels up above and below this level.

However, on this level, in the middle of the room right by where you enter, there is a little alcove with a rectangular button on the wall. (NOTE - if you enter from either side, this alcove is located BETWEEN the places where you enter.) Move INTO the alcove, and stay in the middle of this alcove, not around the egdes, and have someone press the button. You will begin to rise up on the platform. At the top are several NPC's, the quest-giver for this is among them.
