Askr the Lost appears right near zone-in in the Bastion of Thunder.

You say, 'Hail, Askr the Lost'

Askr the Lost looks down at the fallen corpses at his feet and begins to mumble quietly, 'Karana help me, I had no idea. I am sorry Rainkeeper, I have truly failed you. I must find a way to rouse him from his [slumber].'

You say, 'What slumber?'

Askr the Lost says 'The Rainkeeper lies in deep meditation at the top of the great tower, Torden. His meditations have some how become tainted by a force from outside the plane. He lies in his tower besieged by all manner of dark visions and dreamscapes. I cannot fathom the focus it must take to discern the clairvoyance that the Rainkeeper controls. It is surely his fitful sleep that has caused this turmoil to reign here. You must [gain entrance] to Torden, ______.'

You say, 'How do I gain entrance?'

Askr the Lost says 'An ethereal seal that is protected by the collective power of the lightning, blizzards, tornadoes, and sandstorms guards the tower. You must collect the essence of these storms in order to create the key that will allow you to enter the tower of Torden. But first you must earn the right to enter the [courtyard] of the Bastion. From there you will be able to find the storm essences.'

You say, 'What courtyard?'

Askr the Lost says 'The courtyard will allow you access to the four greater towers as well as Torden itself. The strongest giants of the lower halls most likely hold the key that you will need to enter the courtyard. Be wary of the giants in this stronghold ______, they each hold a piece of the great power of the Rainkeeper, unbridled by his control and wisdom.'

You will need:

- Ring of Torden (dropped by the bosses of the lesser towers - Gaukr, Hreidar, Laef, Oreen)
- Sandstorm Gem (south wing random drop)
- Lightning Gem (west wing random drop)
- Tornado Gem (north wing random drop)
- Blizzard Gem (east wing random drop)

Combine the four gems in the Ring of Torden to receive your key ("Enchanted Ring of Torden").

Is gaining access to the Towers worth it? Does it effect Planar Progression for Elemental Planes? Is the loot inside the tower that much better?

Yes - Lots of ornate molds and good items drop off tower named.
Yes - tower access needed to reach Agnarr, who is needed for planar progression.
Sort of - loot isn't that much better than the rest of BoT, but the named are more plentiful, and respawn times are lower.

No - You need Agnarr for Earth/Water/Air, but Agnarr only requires 1 Keyed person for the entire raid.

The drops off minis in the tower isn't really that worth it, although you'll almost never find a tower group so its nice if all of BoT is filled.

The drops off the Tower Bosses, however, are very worth it. If your guild is doing Tower runs its nice to have your own key.

Actually, this key requires one per group to have it. Its the Agnarr key that only one in the raid needs.
the key

once I get the key, can I use it over and over? or each time I want to enter the tower I have to create a key each time?
RE: the key

once you use it at any tower it will go on your key ring. You wont need it on you anymore.

Another trip to BoT yields exactly *half* the required components of yet another quest. I've got two gems and now have to troll around looking the other two *and* the holder.

Sigh...

I don't know about all the servers but, on Povar, these stones rot a lot of the time.

If you want to get the stones, you should be able to just hit the entrance to BoT and...

/ooc looking for <insert stone(s)> -- if you have one rotting, please let me know!

Most folks really couldn't care who loots 'em because they are rather common drops.

Ring now -- that you'll need to hunt for.

The ring is a common drop off the lightning named guy, Hreidar. You can often find people camping him because he drops ornate silk pants and is one of the easiest nameds. The ring is a container and drops all the time so people will usually just leave it to rot.

You can invis right up to Hreidar's spot unless a kriger is there. This is how I got my ring to finish my key. Just every time you go to BOT invis up to the spot and see if anyone's been camping him.

From Hreidar's thread:

To add this to your Key Ring you need to enter a tower by clicking on the special stone with black circle to the RIGHT of the tower steps.
Destroy or carry?

Is this a key that shows up on your keyring after first use or do I have to carry the silly ring around in my inventory from now on?

Yes, it does appear on your keyring once its been used. Remember it won't appear there until you've used the key once.
Gems Vs Spheres

What is the difference between Gems and Spheres?

Gems are for Towers access, Spheres are for Agnarr access.
Key Change
# Aug 27 2003 at 5:27 AM Rating: Decent
As of patch on 8/26/03 - each person now needs the key to gain access to the towers. Groups will not be able to get in with one person only having the key.

Edit: Patch on 8/29/03 - fixed the key so that only one per group is req'd. Previous change was a bug.

I have been told that only one person in a group needs the ring to get to the towers. Can anyone verify one way or the other?

In a typical programming effort by Sony/Verant, the graphic for the "gems" needed to access the towers are that of spheres.

Not surprisingly, the graphic for the "spheres" required for Agnarr's tower are that of gems.

From the 4 wings collect a tornado gem, blizzard gem, sandstorm gem, and lightning gem. Combine these in the ring or torden and you get enchanted ting of torden, this allows you to enter the next section. Ive heard it called tower key and courtyard key, i think it is to enter the towers but i havent verfied this yet. I have yet to use the ring.
Ring
# Jan 08 2003 at 10:40 PM Rating: Decent
You get the rinf of torden box from the mini-bosses in each wing, I THINK they always drop one but don't quote me, it is a 4-slot container which you put the 4 different gems in.
key is for tower access
# Jan 08 2003 at 10:19 PM Rating: Decent
Actually I believe the ring gains you access to the 4 towers associated with the 4 giant types. To enter the courtyard you need only to step on the portals located next to each wing's boss
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2003 at 9:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) sand storm gem and lightening gem are 2 of them
