You must complete at least one Trial in the Plane of Justice in order to complete this quest.

Askr the Lost may be found in the caves near zone-in. He's in the last cave tending bar near the zone-out tree.

Askr the Lost judges you amiably -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

You say, 'Hail, Askr the Lost'

Askr looks up at you and when he does, you take note of the scraggly beard on his weather-worn face; the scent of ale permeates your senses and pushes you to look away slightly. In an apparent drunken stupor, Askr begins to speak with surprising clarity. 'Here to wash the windows and clean the flooring, are you? No? Well, you can't be much help then. And the likes of you obviously wouldn't be able to get rid of the massive problem we're having. Bah, says I. You can help me no more than any of these other vagrants. Leave me alone to my ale and my misery.'

He won't say anything else to you until you give him a Storm Giant Head. These drop randomly from any giant in the zone.

The drunken stupor that Askr had been in earlier appears to vanish in an instant; a glimmer of hope now flashes in the depths of his eyes. 'This is the head of a giant. . . a storm giant from outside the caves.' Askr ponders what this revelation could mean. He mutters to himself, 'If it is possible that someone has indeed bested a giant here in the planes, then perhaps it is possible. . .' He looks back at you very sternly and asks, 'Tell me now and be truthful, was it you who severed the head of this giant from his body?'

You say, 'It was me.'

Askr the Lost says 'Truly, I am amazed that someone of your caliber was able to do what I could not. I have been stuck in these desolate caves for so long, I had almost lost hope that I would ever find a way to get rid of those accursed giants. But you. . . you have been able to best at least one of them. It is reasonable to suggest that if you are able to dispatch one, you may be able to dispatch others. I need to know for sure if you are as capable an individual as it appears you are. This is very important, so are you paying attention?'

You say, 'Yes, I am paying attention.'

Askr the Lost says 'This place was once beautiful and serene, with the great Karana's showers falling day and night soothing the lands and the creatures that inhabit it. Alas, there was an invasion of a superior force -- the storm giants which you have encountered. They laid waste to the lands, burned down trees, and have caused so much havoc I don't even know what is to become of it. Originally, they came as one group and crossed the breadth of the land pillaging and plundering all that they could find. Over time, though, they grew apart and distinct factions grew around Mount Grenidor.' [continue]

You say, 'Continue.'

Askr the Lost says 'To the south of Grenidor lay Srerendi, Shores of the Lost and the Srerendi storm giants. Born of the ocean and the cool air, they lay claim to the shores and the plains inland as their own. To the west of Grenidor lay Krendic, Sands of Chaos and the Krendic storm giants. They have skin that is thick as dirt and blend in well with their surroundings. To the north of the great mount lay Kelek`Vor, the Forest of Tears and the Kelek`Vor storm giants. They are born of the wood and take great pleasure in seeing it used to their own purposes.' [continue]

You say, 'Continue.'

Askr the Lost says 'I must know if you are truly capable of defeating the storm giants that abound here. To do this, you must slay one of each of the three factions and return to me something specific to each tribe: from the Srerendi storm giants, return their shorn beard; from the Krendic storm giants, a piece of their rocky carcass; from the Kelek`Vor storm giants, the crest from their warrior garments. These three items will ensure that you indeed do have the ability to defeat the foul denizens that have seized control of these lands. When you have acquired the three of these items, seal them in this bag and return them to me, so that I know that you are indeed capable of fulfilling a hero's destiny.'

You receive Askr's Bag of Verity. You must fill the bag with a Storm Volaas Beard (random drop from ocean giants), Storm Taarid Bone (random drop from desert giants), and Storm Satuur Sash (random drop from forest giants). Combine these three items in the bag to craft Askr's Sealed Bag of Verity. Give this to Askr.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

Askr looks over the remnants of the storm giants in his hands then looks up at you with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. 'Then it's true! You have the means to push back the scourge of giants. . . you must go forth to the Bastion of Thunder and finish there what you have started here. It is imperative that you clear the forces of giants from the Bastion so that order can be restored to the thunderous reaches beyond.'
You have received a character flag!

You say, 'What Bastion of Thunder?'

Askr the Lost says 'To be honest, I cannot say that it is entirely possible, what with the ferocity of the giants and their reluctance to leave the lands they now inhabit. From what I do know, each of the Leaders of each tribe has one piece to allow entrance into the Bastion of Thunder. When two of these pieces are combined, they form an esoteric medallion that allows instant passage to the thunderous plains beyond. If you can find and seal two pieces of the medallion in this bag, I will be able to forge them into the medallion that will help you on your journey.'

You receive Askr's Bag of Verity again. You'll now need two Esoteric Medallions from different giant camps. The named giants in the Ocean, Desert and Forest camps drop these. They're all named the same (Esoteric Medallion), but identify as west, south and north. Any two will do, as long as they're from different camps. Combine the two in the bag to create an Esoteric Meld. Give this to Askr.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

The mystical medallion given to you by Askr settles around your neck and then disappears into nothingness. There is no call for alarm, for the medallion is now a part of your soul.

Askr the Lost says 'You have retrieved the pieces! You are well on your way to pushing forth on your quest to return balance to the plains of thunder. The most difficult part lies before you. . . deep in the heart of Mount Grenidor, there is a tempest that rages on eternally. It is there that you must present your medallion to the skies above to be transported to the citadel of thunderous might. Take the medallion and go forth, then deliver these storm giants to their creator!'

You have received a character flag!

it is me again. All named giants drop 3. Lords drop 5. Loot of lesser named is really rare. Lord drops loot along with the medallions almost everytime. Lords are hard. Kinda like AoW. but hits slower. niether can be slowed. Faction doesnt matter. Reg lesser named hit for 600 1000+ depending on tank and if disc is up.Lord hits harder. have fun

"need 3 clerics at least or less."

Heh, this was kind of funny.

"need 3 clerics at least or less. depends on tank"

Meaning, if you have a kick *** tank like say, Furor from FoH, you could probably do with 2 clerics...

Heh, this was kind of funny
Named giants harder now

The named giants (minis and lords) where flagged unslowable with the Dec 4 patch. They might be possible with 2 groups but you would need to have pretty well equipped people and a lot of DPS. We tried Solnebk the Unruly with 15 (avg. raid level was 63) and only managed to get him to 30%, but we where a bit short on damage dealers. 3 groups should be fine to kill the minis.

One groupable with a good druid / enchanter with the level 64 charm to do the real damage.

I'm told you can do this with indifferent faction. Just make sure that Askr will give you the quest and you should be okay. I don't know if all indifferent factions are sufficient or if you have to be "high" indifferent.

If you and your guild do this raid style, getting keys for lots of people, that is the most effective way to do things AND it has the added bonus of pumping up your Askr faction more quickly.

Did I mention how much I like PoS? It's a place you can actually explore most of without dying (at least if you are a monk that is).

Dec 4th Quest Change
# Dec 04 2002 at 11:24 AM Rating: Decent
This quest changed with the December 4 2002 patch to give the bag (previously this could be multiquested which was why it was changed). Can anyone confirm that the lesser names in the desert and forest forts now drop the medallions (and not just the lords)? We only got medallions from the ocean names prior to patch.

Oops... I'd posted this from the stuff I learnt from my guild keying up. We play on the test server, and it had been this way for a while. Didn't realize that the live quest hadn't been updated.

Anyhow... It's now a 2 container process. So you cannot Multiquest the quest, but the 7 named giants now drop the Medallions as well as the Giant lords, so you no longer need to clear the entire camps to get to the Medallions.

This is good, it was a bit of a bottleneck before.

All in all, it doesn't take long per-person, though the most effecient manner of equipping a guild is to raid the Giant Lords.

A complete clearing of the Giants in the zone will now result in 9 Medals from the Ocean Giants, 12 from the Desert Giants, and 9 from the Forest giants. The named giants respawn in about 4 to 5 hours.

Can confirm that medallions are now dropping from the lesser named giants in the desert and forest camps. And on a personal note its about time getting 10 keys a weeks is ridiculous especially on a server with several high end competive guilds.
medalions

when I did the first part of the quest I didn't get any containers I just handed the beard bone and sash ina got a flag and as for the medalions there are 2 named giants in the ocean camp that are 2 group doable in the desert and forrest camps there are only the named lords which take more than just 2 groups that had been the sticking point for me.
Not likely

Quote:
The quest takes about 1 to 2 groups, and will take a single person about 1 or 2 days to collect all the pieces.
-----------------------
it took all 6 of us in my group about 4-5 hours(total) to get all the peices each. The bottleneck was the Beards. They were more rare than anything. The bones dropped on almost every mob. The sahs's dropped about half the time.
hmm well..

I have dont most of this quest and it seemed different for me. I gave Askr the head and he gave it back to me and I received exp for it. Then I handed him the bone, beard and sash and received a character flag. I have one of the medalions that dropped of the sea giants. So, did they changed the quest to this, or was the quest broke when I was doing it....lol..??

Container is news to me too.I did mine in the first 2 weeks of PoP and was as you said. You had to be very precise with your text and needed the head to trigger text.I tried the head then days later came back with body parts and he wouldnt talk till I gave him the head to trigger text again.
