Each class gets a specific suit of armor by talking to Bor Wharhammer. This is for classes that wear silk.

Bor Wharhammer says 'Greetin's t'ye Calandria! Isn't the area 'round 'ere so nice an' quiet? Such a departure from me old days; slaving o'er the forge t'create masterpieces! T'be 'onest, at times I do miss the old forge, but after I created me finest breastplate, it seemed as if nothing else I made could ever live up t'it. So I left me home to'wander the land an' see what I could learn o'the world. I 'ave learned quite a bit from the elders 'ere an' the skilled craftspeople in New Tanaan. I 'ave even devised a type o'emblem that will impart the magic o'tranquility into the user t'create planar armors from pieces o'energy found in the planes.'

You say, 'what emblem?'

Bor Wharhammer says 'Well, the emblems dinnae be easy t'craft but I will gladly give ye one fer the price of 500 platinum pieces. They allow a planes traveler with no craftin' skills t'create many fine pieces o'planar armor in a special, magical kit I also 'ave an' will throw in with the price. The kit acts as a focal point fer the wild magic energy o'the Planes. Ye will only be able t'use each emblem an' kit once when ye create the piece, 'owever I dinnae be goin' anywhere soon! Just venture back when ye need another an' dinnae ferget the coin!'

You say, 'what silk?'

Bor Wharhammer says 'Har! It be quite funny that we be referin' t'silk as armor, fer the amount o'protection it provides be miniscule at best. The planar armor made from strands o'ether can still be quite useful fer its magical properties, 'owever. Ye will need t'take up a Tanaan embroidery needle, a pattern, an emblem an' various amounts o'ether silk swatches t'create a piece. Craft it all within a sewing kit boilin' with magical energy.'

You say, 'what swatches'

Bor Wharhammer sighs at you. 'T'make a swatch, ye need t'combine two strands o'ether along with a curing agent in a Tanaan loom. Ye will need t'seek a skilled brew master t'make the curing agent fer ye. Just 'ave them create it by using two celestial essences, soda an' paeala sap'

Handing Bor 500 pp will get you an emblem specific to your class and Druzzil's Mystical Sewing Kit, an 8-slot container useful only for ornate or elemental patterns. The patterns drop in various zones.

Basic recipe is: appropriate ornate pattern, tanaan embroidery needle, appropriate class emblem, 1-3 ethereal silk swatches combined in Druzzil's Sewing Kit. The final combine is no-fail.

Worth It?
# Aug 20 2004 at 12:27 PM Rating: Default
I'll never understand why people make such a fuss about ornate. 90% of it is useless in comparison to DROPPABLE gear of the same value. Maybe worthwhile if you win a roll on it, but you could still just sell the mold /pattern and buy something of equal effectiveness. Granted, there are some items that have nice effects (enchanter legs, for example), but by far, the majority is just not very good.

Buy a piece of droppable gear and augment it. Sell it when you upgrade. Heck, you can even remove the augment and put it on what you upgrade to now. Maybe we'll see ornate appropriately valued when people start doing that.

Just my 2 cp. Flame away.

Ornate silk pant pattern is rarely seen in baz on my server. One seller had it at 60k for a long time, and recently a 19k seller has been around. Most of the other sparse selection of ornate silk patterns are listed at less than 2k (not unusual to see the cap for 50plat).

The pants are still a great item for an enchanter, even if only as a bag item for after a death or wipe. A friend got one for 4k for a 55 chanter that is levelling slow (doing lots of aa on the way to 60) --the clicky C4 is very nice.

There is currently no additional benefit to having an entire set of ornate on.
Can it be done under 55 if you are flagged?
# Feb 21 2004 at 2:12 PM Rating: Excellent
Someone brought up the question in my guild asking if it could be done under level 55 if you were flagged and if so, what flags would be needed. If it is possible and I do not know, I would imagin that being flagged for trials and Plane of Storms to get to BoT or to get to HoH should be able to do it.

Anyone know if this is possible as in has actually done in under 55 since they made that change?

At 52, he will blow you off even with the justice trial. So much for that.

yes it can be done under 55; I forget which flags are needed.

I believe that having either a Bastion of Thunder key HoH flag, or Tactics flag (MB, probably not the alt entry quest) are required to get this under 55.

It's possible that it can be done with only the PoJ flag... I'm not sure.
just the facts

if nobody's pieced this together yet here the skinny
you have to be level 55 for the quset giver to talk to you.
you dont need any flags.
the combine container is no drop.
the combine is no fail thus requires no tradeskill.
people sell this stuff at HUGE prices... thanks ebay and plat duppers.

Again, I'll back that up...just turned 55 enchanter. No flags at all..hailed him, coughed up 500pp..got kit and emblem. No biggie.

He wouldn't talk to the 54 warrior I was with though - so assuming 55 is the req. level.

Turn right outside the door from the PoK book..he's kinda round behind the back of the building. I get so laggy there even reading /loc can be painful.
try this

you only need level 55 to complete this quest no flags needed ...

I'm a 56 magician with only tactics and factory flags and he let me go through his entire speech. He said he would be happy to make me one of those class specific things for 500pp but I haven't tried yet. I have 114 tailoring now also although I also think tradeskills have nothing to do with this.

No tradeskills required, except to get the Ethereal Silk Swatches / Chain Rings / Metal Sheets / Leather.

The actual armour combine is done in a quest container, and is no-fail.

Just went to the quest NPC with nothing but the flag from trials of exe. and the key for BoT Tower, not the BoT zone key, just the Enchanted Ring of Torden for BoT Towers which was a fairly easy quest if you hunt BoT anyway. This seems to be enough to finish the quest. I also physically looted the ornate pattern so don't know if that helped get the NPC to talk to me.

whell im a 52 necro with no flags but a lot of pp so i bought this patern and the guy will not finish the quest text or take my 500pp and give me the kit and emblem (good thing is he gave me my 500pp back) so i' got to sell this or get some flags and stuff

I did a few plate pieces after the latest patch with only pov/pos flag at 62 using both purchased molds and looted ones. I am told with the recent level requirements dropping for PoP access that the minimum level to do these quests is now 55; coinciding with the 55+ for 2nd tier access. However, I have not been able to find any threads stating so. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Agreed. My level 57 wizard with no flags at all was able to do this. My necromancer is fixing to hit 46 so I'll check with him, then with my 52 monk.

# Jun 23 2003 at 12:43 PM Rating: Decent
You need to be flagged that is certain. I am level 62 with only PoV / PoS flag and he will not give me the quest. I am almost finished with my Tactics flag (daiku raiders) and will soon find out if that is enough to get him to talk. It really erks me that they removed the flags and then based on level requirements, but then left flags as a requirement to get the armor. I have a pair of ornate chain legs I bought for my rogue in the bank that he is unable to wear because the kljkj dorf wont give him the quest.
RE: Flags
# Jul 15 2003 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
My main's a level 63 wizard. He has all of two flags, he has the flag from Exe trial in PoJ. And he has the factory flag in PoI. I gave him the 500pp, he gave me the kit and wizard emblem in return without a problem. So perhaps it's flagged OR level 63, as 62 doesn't work.

Combine
# May 25 2003 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
The FINAL combine, to get your ornate item, is a NO FAIL combine. The subcombine, to make the ethereal swatches, and the curing agent, require tailoring and brewing skill of 220+. Hope this helps. I got silk leggings, he talked to my 62 necro, who has a HoH flag. You need to be flagged for one zone that drops ornate molds (HoH, BoT, Tactics +) for him to talk to you, regardless of level. The final combine is NO FAIL
RE: Combine
# Jun 03 2003 at 11:06 PM Rating: Default
I have a 62 necro and my HoH flag, and he gave me the emblem, as the other guy said about level restriction, so I assume you need one tier 3 flag, and some level, not sure of the exact level

RE: Combine

You need one tier 3 plane flag yes, but there is a required level. I attempted this quest with HoH flag and he does infact give me all the pieces and offers me a emblem, but at level 54 (i did the quest for entry) he will NOT give me the emblem when i give him 500 platinum. Replies "I be sorry the magical properties o'the emblems would not work fer those in'experianced in the ways of plane walkin'. Come back when yer feet 'ave touched more planar ground an'yer essence strengthened with the might of progression."

As a 62 enc, I was able to talk to him and he gave me the emblem. I had never tried to talk to him before.

The 61 necro up above said he would not talk to him so i think the lvl requirement without BoT is 62.

I have PoV/PoS and Tactics.

So I was lucky enough to loot the pant pattern last night. (For me that's pant that cast Tranquility).

It says here the "Basic recipe is: Appropriate Ornate pattern, Tanaan embroidery needle, appropriate class-emblem, 1-3 ethereal silk swatches combined in Druzzil's Sewing Kit."

How do you know the appropriate number of Swatches?

RE: Ornate Silk Molds

I have yet to see any other drops, but in the Bastion of Thunder I have yet to see anything other then legs drop. I have not been in the tower to kill the named there, so I am not sure if they drop other pieces, but I do know that the 4 named downstairs will only drop the legs.

I wish someone could say *exactly* what needs to be done for this guy to talk to you... I haven't even hailed him yet to see if he talks to me, but i have no flags of any kind so I wonder if he will. I would like to know so I can get started doing whatever it is I have to do in case he doesn't tho...

No flags are needed to do complete the combinations on the ornate patterns... however, to get the patterns to drop, you will most likely need flags or a good amount of plat to buy them. Because they are tradable.
Here is a quick review of what needs to be done to make these nice no drop items once you have gotten the pattern.

(1)Hail Bor Wharhammer (PoT 700, -1740)
give him 500 plat for the container (Druzzil's Sewing Kit) and class specific emblem.

(2)Buy Tanaan Embroidery Needle from Sherin Matrick (PoK 100, 1480)
about 130 plat, pending charisma.. plus you can sell it back when you are done.

(3)Head to the Bazaar and pick up the needed amounts of ethereal silk swatches (1 - 3)
these sell on Xev for around 100 plat per swatch

(4)Combine in Druzzil's Sewing Kit
armour = Ornate pattern + Tanaan embroidery needle + class emblem + swatches

It is Flag Based
# Jan 08 2003 at 1:04 AM Rating: Decent
I am a LVL 61 Necro with my PoV PoS flag, but I do NOT have the BoT flag. He tells me to come back when I have learned more.
I have a friend that has the PoV, PoS, and the BoT flag and I had him Hail him and see if he would talk to him instead. Of course.. he did..
So basically since one of the items that is required for this quest is dropped in the BoT plane, you are required to have that flag. I do not know if you just have to have a 3rd tier flag, or you have to have the BoT flag specifically. This may also apply to other quests that require certain items from certain zones. (Can't do the quest if you don't have the flag to the zone where the item is dropped)
If anyone finds this out, please post a reply.
It's flag based
# Dec 04 2002 at 7:33 AM Rating: Decent
There *may* be a tradeskill level requirement as well, but I do know it's not solely based on tradeskills level, it's flag based. When PoP first came out, I tried talking to him, but got his dead end reply. A few weeks later I hailed him again and he prompted for the armor types etc. I hadn't done any tradeskill increases between then (other then baking), the only differences between the first time and the last were in the flags I had collected. If it helps, I'm flagged for PoV/PoS, LoTT, CoD, and HoH

If i'm right this is related not to a flag but more for the new AA skill the New Tanaan. I'll confirm that *** soon in my next 3 AA.
Its NOT flag based
# Dec 15 2002 at 11:50 AM Rating: Default
Its level based. Sure you accumulated more flags and went back to him... and in that time Im sure you accumulated a couple levels too.
RE: Its NOT flag based
# Dec 24 2002 at 3:28 PM Rating: Decent
I don't believe it is level based. At 61 he still won't talk to me. I am, however, not flagged for anything yet.

As far as I know, he gives you the quests based on your tradeskill levels. So if, as a silk wearer, you approach him with 0 Tailoring skill, you won't get the quest. I'm unsure what skill level you need to get him to give you the information, unfortunately.

I would suspect that leng is right about the final combine being no-fail, becaked up by the quote he supplied. The silk swatches themselves though have a tailoring trivial of 212.

Can't speak from personal experience but the quest giver says
Quote:
They allow a planes traveler with no craftin' skills t'create many fine pieces o'planar armor in a special, magical kit I also 'ave

So it looks like a no-fail combine to me.
RE: Trivial

I think that means the final combine is no fail but the temper and silk is trivial combines.
