You say, 'Hail, Cadelawin Browan'

Cadelawin Browan says 'Wow, you have a Mystic Cloak! I was just reading a book about cloaks with similar enchantments. I'm studying to try and learn how to make magical and enchanted armor. I'm pretty sure I have figured out a way to [recharge] a Mystic Cloak.'

You say, 'How do you recharge a Mystic Cloak?'

Cadelawin Browan says 'Well, in the case of the Mystic Cloak at least, the true enchantment is in the brooch that you use to clip the cloak around your shoulders. The cloak itself cannot run out of magic, the brooch, however, can. When it no longer has the ability to cast spells you should be able to attach a [new brooch] and regain the magic the cloak once possessed.'

You say, 'What new brooch?'

Cadelawin Browan says 'I figured that would be your next question. Each enchanted cloak has its own brooch, and you need to know the specifics of the brooch for your cloak in order to replace it. You happen to be in luck today as I happen to know the specifications for the cloak associated with the Mystic Cloak. First you will need talisman made from Chrysoberyl. That talisman will need to be affixed inside a Planar Jeweler's kit by a skilled jewelcrafter to an enchanted platinum bar with a magic scroll of steelskin and a vial of distilled mana. Once you have the brooch simply attach it to your cloak in one of the looms you can find in Jeral, it shouldn't be terribly difficult.'

Reward is a fully recharged Mystic Cloak.

Jeral is one of the districts in the town of New Tanaan (PoK). Unless you care about the lore of the Plane of Knowledge, just combine them in a loom.
300 p recharge?
# Oct 12 2003 at 8:26 PM Rating: Default
Why not pay for a diamondskin buff 10pp that 30 shots vs 10 for 300?
This seems like a nother dumb EQ design.

Besides My Necro doesn't get hit.. much if at all
his free buffs handle it.

Well people like to do quests, sometimes just to be able to say that they did them. Is the 30 charges of diamondskin an item that you can equip with not too bad stats? The cloak is also insta-cast according to other posts. Also, I don't know where you fight or what level your necro is but I know that when soloing in a dungeon or other similarly small areas, I get hit quite a bit and this would come in handy if there is more than 1 thing on me.
Gotta get this cloak!

Now that the Mystic Cloak can be recharged, its an excellent item in my opinion.

I never bothered with the quest before cause I figured once I used all 10 charges, the cloak would be useless since the stats alone aren't that great.

According to Lucy, the effect is insta click from inventory. Steelskin absorbs 230 hp. 10 charges means 2300 hp.

Keeping the cloak hotkeyed could save my necro's hide when he is getting beaten on and is very low health. Although Feign Death is my first line of defense, it can fail often, especially when your getting hit by multiple mobs. The recast time is like 8 seconds, which is too long sometimes.

But since an insta click effect doesn't get interrupted when your getting hit its 100% reliable.

Shame it only absorbs melee damage.

Long ago I quested for this cloak. After a boring 12 hour camp, the Priest of Najena finally showed up, and I obtained my cloak shortly thereafter. I knew about this quest at the time, but never really gave it much thought, thinking that once I used the charges, I would look into it. The problem was...I never used the charges at all. I'm an enchanter and I rune before I fight anyways, and I would never remember, or have the time, to click on the cloak, when I needed it. So this cloak got put away after I upgraded it, to rot for eternity in my bank as a sentimental piece from my younger days.
Now I'm more seasoned, and my gear is better, and though far from uber, it is suitable for what I do with my time in Norrath. I make enough money from bazaar/tradeskills that I tend to buy a lot of toys now, I use runes alot and go through a stack or two of peridots every hunt. I'm a big fan of potions, and use them regularly to fill out gaps in my own abilities. And then I came across this old cloak sitting in my bank. Because of this quest, that cloak is now a prized possession. It is my panic button. I have it hotkeyed to the easiest key for me to reach, and when the S**T hits the fan and my rune drops, I hit that hotkey between every cast of stun/mez/whatever to try to get the situation under control. It has saved my butt on numerous occassions now, giving my healer that extra few seconds for my heal to land.
I recharge it about once every week or two, and it costs me usually anywhere from 100 to 300pp for a talisman, and 300pp or so for the regents. It's a small price to pay to keep me, and my group alive, and turn defeat to success. Just my take on the whole thing.

All cloaks rechargeable?
# Nov 30 2002 at 4:12 AM Rating: Default
According to this once you hail him he only says Wow! a Mystic Cloak. so if you don't have a mystick cloak i have no idea what he would say. if he gives the same message no matter the cloak, then probably cant recharge other cloaks in the same way. will be checking this out tomorrow to see, as i have no casting cloak at all.
Brooch

Other Cloaks
# Nov 21 2002 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
But he talks about cloaks with charges in general.

Has anyone with another type of charged cloak tried him yet? I have the vampire cloak with charges of Levetation(component-less) so will have to go by and see if he knows how to recharge it. What other cloaks have charges that might be worth the effort?

Well, one useful ability of the cloak is that while you have to be an int caster to equip it, ANYONE can right-click it from inventory. As such, that cloak represents about 2000 hp worth of damage absorption, that even a warrior can use.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 20 2002 at 6:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Think I would much rather just got kill the preist in Najena again for the key and do the whole quest over, as its much cheaper and faster than doing this asinine quest, Way to go Sony, you made a very useless quest. I do keep this in my bags for the off chance i need to be runed.... Think they even think about the original quest being 5x easier than this "recharge" quest? Maybe they think we are morons and wouldnt know better.... Either way , what a waste of your time folks.

I'm not gonna flame ya too bad, I'll just say that the game isn't all about the quickest route to power... some of us enjoy a change of pace and something to do to kill some time with friends.

... cost?
# Nov 20 2002 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
Considering that wizards can cast steelskin, and the cost of the spell is less than a plat.. *cough* why even get this cloak? Necros who aren't fear kiting by this point.. we wont even talk about them! Mages.. um.. pet-tank-supersoloer. And enchanters? they've got rune spells to match this :) the only reason I'd see getting it is if it's castable from inventory - and if so, could another class quest it and use the steelskin? *THAT* would be cool... and maybe worth recharging it... I could think of a few classes that would like the first hundred or so hp absorbed...

That's my 2cp.

To answer why. If you play on a pvp server. This quest is an easy way for you to get 5 int that is no drop and thus not lootable by ganker that attack you at low health or when you are soloing. Not to mention 10 charges of a basic rune has saved my Enc numerous times when he is oom. Easier to just redo quest then to waste a +5chr +7 resist item. This is Sony's attempt to get rid of clutter on people accounts. I read that almost every yak that has ever dropped is still in the game. Just think about the wasted bank space and server space it takes to hold items that used to be amazing and yet are easily surpassed by other newer items at the level they proc. I mean what level 45 twink war is going to be using a SSoY when then can duel wield 2 lammys or better.

I doubt they try to get rid of items just due to wasted server space. All characters have calculated space to go with. If they really wanted to get rid of ssoy they would make it no drop.
RE: ... cost?

SSoY is a good pet weapon.. With Properly handeld pets you rarely lose them but it happens. I've lost many a Yak or a Wak on DC'd pets so some are being removed from the weapon pool..

I preffer a Wak/Gnoll hide lariat combo myself but I'll take a Yak if their selling cheap enough in Bazaar..

Heheh.

Those SSoYs now have a MUCH nicer use.

Sounds a wee bit expensive for a simple recharge
