You can only do this quest with a single group. Completing this quest (or any of the other trials) will give you access to the Plane of Storms and the Plane of Valor

Talk to Mavuin in the basement cellblock.

You say, 'Hail, Mavuin'

Mavuin strains his eyes to look up at you in disbelief, then reaches down into a rusted vent and pulls out a journal. 'Please I implore you, take word to the Tribunal. I have done nothing wrong, yet I have been sentenced to eternity in this cell. I wish to present all of the [information] about my case to them. They must listen to my plea if they are truly the gods of justice.'

You say, 'What information?'

Mavuin tells you, 'I know it has been said for years before me, and will be said for years after me, but I was truly framed for my crime. You see the gods feared the knowledge that I carry with me. So to prevent me passing this knowledge to others, it was set up to show that I had plotted to murder one of the other elders. Please go before the tribunal and plead my case. If you do this I will share what I know with you, I apologize for holding it against you, but I am desperate to be released.'

You have received a character flag!

Head to the area with The Tribunal, and ask them about Mavuin. Following the dialog, saying "I am prepared" to each Tribunal will give you description of the six trials.

You say, 'Hail, The Tribunal'

The Tribunal fixes you with a dark, piercing gaze. 'What do you want, mortal?'

You say, 'I am prepared.'

The Tribunal nods slightly. 'Very well. When you are ready, you may begin the trial of stoning. The archers will not cease their punishment until nothing else stands. Do not let the prisoners take more than they can bear. We shall judge the mark of your success.'

When you are ready:

You say, 'I am ready to begin the trial of stoning.'

The Tribunal says 'Then begin.'

You are teleported into a square room with 3 x "an accused prisoner" against one wall. After a few seconds, four mobs will enter the room through one of the doors in the walls. The mobs can be rock men ("a shadow grinder"), earth elementals ("nemesis of stone"), or spectres ("a relentless punisher"). When the mobs are up, so are two untargetable archers ("a pitiless avenger") who shoot you for 90-100 damage while fighting. Rock men are unmezzable and spectres are mezzable. After four waves of this, the boss Yurae Zhaleem will spawn. It melees for ~700, is slowable, and procs Gravel Rain. Kill him to loot the Mark of Stone.

When you have finished looting, go up to the Agent of the Tribunal and say "I am ready to return."

Now talk to the Tribunal.

You say, 'What evidence of Mavuin?'

You have received a character flag!

The Tribunal tells you, 'You have completed a trial - impressive for mortals. You can tell Mavuin that we will hear his plea. We will seek him out as time befits us.'

Head back down and talk to Mavuin.

You say, 'Hail, Mavuin'

Mavuin tells you, 'So you have pleaded my case to the Tribunal, I am most thankful. I hope that they will listen to my case soon and release me. The knowledge that I promised you is this. The followers in the Plane of Tranquility are trying to find information on what has happened to Zebuxoruk. What I know is that he has been captured for a second time. If you want to find out more information I believe you should seek an audience with Karana and Mithaniel Marr. I can only assume that they were present at the time of his capture and know why this has taken place. Also seek from Marr a way to translate the divine language. Only with it can you understand the writing of the gods. There is no more that I can tell you, but thank you once again for your attempt in returning my freedom.'

You have received a character flag!

This will flag you to be able to enter the Plane of Storms and the Plane of Valor.

Need missing dialogues, /loc of quest mobs.

The Earth Elementals are named "nemesis of stone" and the one I had dropped a Cowl of the Convicted. You can update the write-up above now.

New item and a surprise drop
# Nov 05 2007 at 9:10 AM Rating: Decent
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=20275 dropped from here, but apparently not listed in this quest info.

But what surprised me was I got a spectral parchment off of a shadow grinder. I was under the impression SP's do not drop in any tier 1 zone short of a really rare drop off a raid boss encounter. The SP dropped from same mob that dropped the leggings.

This is a fun trial that is a lesson in pain and punishment. This trial starts in a large square room with 3 chained prisoners on the back wall and one center door and 2 side doors. The trial begins when 2 unkillable archers spawn and start lobbing arrows at you or the prisoners. It is wise to try to position yourself in front of the prisoners to prevent their deaths or you lose the trial. At the same time that the archers spawn, 4 mobs spawn in the side rooms and head for your group. The spectres are mezzable so put them to sleep, the razorfiends are snarable and rootable, so root and snare them away from the group. Anytime you see an earth elemental model made pet, those are nameds and they must be killed 1st. Naturally the tank shoudl focus on a razorfiend or a named mob 1st and work your way to the mezzed ones. This is not a timed trial so the mobs will keep spawning regardless of how slowly you kill. If you clear all 4 mobs before the next wave spawns, then the archers poof until the next wave. I highly recommend shrinking your cleric and have them hug that wall tightly to the far left or right behind the pillar to avoid the archers. Be careful as the cleric will get aggro now and then and will have to move from side to side while rangers snare and root or enchanters mezz. Otherwise this is a simple trial, deal with the archer damage, use aoe heals, kill the mobs as fast as possible, and then kill the named boss at the end.

Also the boss has a ridiculously long snare dot that takes 2 casts of RGC to take off. Ignore the dot till after you win and cure it later.

4 waves, then the named.

There are 4 waves of monsters, then the named spawns.
Hard trial
# Dec 10 2003 at 11:52 PM Rating: Decent
You spawn in a room with 3 doors.

There are 3 prisoners

The mobs run in via the side doors right on the onset of the trial. The archers pop as the mobs come in.

Now, the mobs hit HARD, the archers hit HARD and even if you have major good gear, you will get pounded.

The last mob to hit me before I died did a double high 400's on me.

Avoid this trial until someone here finds a good strategy and posts it.

This trial is a pain. The monsters don't "spawn" like in exe. Instead they run in the doors.
The rocks can't be banished or mezzed, but are rootable. Not sure if they can be feared, but blindness does stick on them and causes them to run away.

As soon as go in, run straight out to wall opposite the guard. The mobs come in the door by guard, 4 at a time.

This is more a trial of crowd control rather than dps. Will need two people, druid and enchanter, doing crowd control. Cleric needs to have divine aura and barrier up cause they gonna get pounded.

You fail when prisoner die
# Jan 14 2003 at 12:20 AM Rating: Excellent
You fail the trial when the prisoner die. There're 3 prisoners there, if anyone of them die you'll fail.

The tricky thing about this trial isn't killing the mobs before the prisoners die, but before the next wave of mobs spawn. Like Ring of Fire quest, mob spawn at a set amount of time. If you can't kill the first wave of mobs fast enough, bad news, you'll gonna have to deal with the second wave at the same time.

On a side note, the prisoners have quiet some hp(couple thousand at least) and it's gonna take the 2 achers quiet a while to kill them. But the mob spawn in the room do see those prisoner as enemy and WILL attack them. So keep your eye on mobs and don't let them get their hand on the prisoners. Also, if a prisoner's health drop too low, all the mob will fenzy at the prisoner, there're nothing you can do to save the prisoner at that point.

Good luck if you still thinking to try this trial. :)

Update on this one
# Jan 12 2003 at 3:44 AM Rating: Good
While there is no executioner walking toward the prisoners the next wave of mobs will come out after a certain amount of time whether or not you have killed the 4 in the wave you are currently on. This is still a dps fight.
not one wave

The 'ring of woe' like other trial rewards drops off of one of the Named spawns. The Herald of Destruction in the Exec Trial drops the Veil of the Executioner and IIRC Pauldrons of Witness. So far nobody has mentioned what any of the named spawned are in this particular trial. I've done both Exec and Hanging trial and I've listed the named mobs in that particular trial.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 06 2002 at 11:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, this is the right quest info, all the trials are for flags to PoV and PoS, as the info states. One wave of 4 mobs and the archers is what idicates the specific trial.
RE: Info IS correct
# Dec 04 2002 at 4:31 PM Rating: Default
This is NOT correct, i went to do this trial thinking this information was correct
"I am ready to begin the trial of stoning"
enter trial area
3 specs, one rock spawns
mezzed 3 specs
killed rock
then all of the sudden spawned 2 rocks, one spec and one elemental
not fun at all
bogus info!
this quest is a pain
Wrong quest...
